I am! My granddad named me after Kunio Yanagita. I’m glad that he chose my name, because if my mum had had her way, I would have been named Stevey Tyler Hoshizora Yoshioka. I wish I was kidding.

When Was the Last Time You Cried?

On Mother’s Day. My mother is, to put it simply, an alcoholic whore who doesn’t care about anyone but herself, and needless to say, I had a shitty childhood because of her. Mother’s Day is for obvious reasons a difficult time for me.

Do You Have Kids?

No, but I want kids in the future. My boyfriend is dead set on adopting an older child, because he grew up in the system, and he saw tons of perfectly good kids who never got adopted just because everyone wants babies.

How they present themselves. You can tell a lot about someone by how they dress, or what accessories or makeup they wear. One look at me will tell you that I’m a damaged teen who’s missing an eye.

Hazel, and I fucking hate it. My mum always said that my eyes are just like my father’s, and that’s one of the reasons why she hated me so much. It’s also the reason why I’m now blind in one eye.

I prefer happy endings. I’ve been through enough scary things in real life.

Fuck yes! I’m a brilliant sculptor with thousands of followers on Tiktok, and I’m also a pretty decent cook.

Northampton. It’s a boring city in England that no one really cares about. It’s not on anyone’s bucket list, that’s for sure.

I played football in primary school, but I haven’t really had the time for sports since then. I’ve been wanting to get into rock climbing, and hiking though.

I used to like P.E., but after the incident with my eye, I wasn’t allowed to do P.E. anymore. Or maybe it was the time someone tapped my shoulder from behind and scared the crap out of me, and I turned around and hit them in the face with a lacrosse stick, thinking that they wanted to fight? It might have been that.

What is your dream job?

Opening an in-person shop for my art. I wanna turn it into a hangout spot for people to gather and play tabletop RPGs.

I was named after the ancient war hero Halley the Blood Comet.

When was the last time you cried?

It was years ago when I was told about the coup that ousted my family from Eagleheart. Can you imagine? Hatchlings slain while they slept, my great uncle Odo took fifty wounds from claw, beak, and sword, so that the remainder could escape an avenge the fallen one day.

Do you have kids?

No. I have never had any luck courting. If you any available eagles, please let me know.

No.

What is the first thing you notice about people?

Who are they? Is it a loyal subject, or a bird from another eyrie? What is their rank, and are they alone, or in a group?

Hmmmm…an interesting concept; pictures that not only move, but talk as well. I would dare you to try and scare me.

Thanks for the tag! I think about this a lot when designing/envisioning my characters, so it’s great to get to talk about it in detail!

(Kunio and Noah’s fashion sense seems a little similar from what I’m seeing <00)

Anyway, let’s first go in with Kunio. As I mentioned before somewhere, he’s a troubled goth kid who has a lot of black and red in his wardrobe (Though the red is in keeping with his tengu theme), and a lot of his shirts have some kind of leaf, bird, or wing pattern. Oh, and he’s major into Hollywood Undead just like yours truly, so he’d totally own this hoodie:

Next up, I’m doing Ariel! She wears a lot of hoodies, mostly in blue or cute pastel colours, and since she’s a shut-in workaholic who rarely leaves her apartment, she’s usually either wearing slippers, her ballet shoes, or no shoes at all:

I’m using one of my favorite vignettes from The Tengu And The Angel. For those of you who haven’t read it, all of the chapters end with a little fantasy vignette recapping the chapter’s events through Kunio’s imagination:

The angel and the tengu fought one last battle against the kitsune, but he was no match for their combined might, and perished at their hands. Even so, he wouldn’t go down without a fight, and he badly wounded the angel, who sought comfort in the arms of the tengu. The tengu tended the angel’s wounds as best he could, and he hoped that, for the angel’s sake, the wounds would heal soon. 

As the angel slept, the foolish tengu dreamt of what it would be like if the angel ever made his feelings known for him. His proud heart would not allow him to admit it, but he wanted to become the angel’s lover more than anything else, and his love for the angel was steadily consuming his heart, and his damned soul.

Thanks for the tag! I’m warning you now, these explanations will be lengthy. I put careful thought into all of my characters’ names, and I’m going to infodump the hell out of them now. *Ahem* Name Nerd Power, Activate!

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but Kunio is named for Kunio Yanagita, a Japanese folklorist best known for the Tōno Monogatari, a compilation of folk tales and local legends from the city of Tōno, most of which feature some species of yokai. I took inspiration from the Tōno Monogatari to build some of the mythological elements of the story, and y’all know that Kunio is a mythology nerd, especially when it comes to tengu. As for the name itself, Kunio, like most Japanese names, can have a lot of different meanings depending on the kanji used, but I imagine that Kunio’s name would be written with the same kanji as his namesake, that being: 國男 (Kuni, meaning country or kingdom, and ō, meaning man, or male). As for Kunio’s surname, Yoshioka, the most common kanji combination for that surname is 吉岡 (Yoshi = Good, fortunate and oka = hill, knoll), so I went with that. This surname was chosen for cruel irony’s sake; It is pretty ironic for someone who had such a terrible childhood to have a name meaning good or fortunate. (I also debated naming Kunio Sachio, meaning lucky/fortunate man, but I thought that that would’ve been a bit too on the nose…)

Nathaniel is a Hebrew name which can be roughly translated as, ‘gift of God’, in keeping with his angelic motif, and Kunio’s feelings of being given Nathaniel as an apology from the universe for his shitty childhood. His middle name, Azrael, is from the angel of death in Abrahamic mythology, and this was chosen due to Kunio feeling as if his old human self truly died the moment he met Nathaniel. Nathaniel’s surname, Bythesea, is a rare old English surname from Somerset which is on the verge of extinction (That meaning that there are very few living people who have it). Nathaniel was born in Somerset, and I thought that giving him a rare surname would emphasise how alone he is in the world, and how he has no living relatives who want him in their lives.

Ariel is a moon of the planet Uranus, who, in Greek Mythology, is the father of the titans. Ariel gets her powers from Phoebe, one of Uranus’ daughters, and Phoebe is the titan of prophecy, intellect, and the moon. Her middle name, Selene, comes from the goddess of the moon, who is also the daughter of Theia, the titan that her partner, Solana gets her powers from. Ariel’s surname, Gianapoulou, is the feminine form of Gianapoulous, meaning ‘child of Giannis’. Giannis can be roughly translated as ‘god is gracious’, in reference to Ariel’s many meetings and dealings with the Greek gods. She has met Hades, Hecate, and Thanatos, and I have plans for her to meet more of the Olympian pantheon, as well as some more of the titans.

Solana’s name means ‘sunshine’ and it was chosen to reflect Solana’s sun motif, and act as a parallel to Ariel’s moon motif. She also gets her powers from Theia, the titan of radiance, and Theia is the mother of Helios, the god of the sun. Her middle name, Leto, comes from the goddess of motherhood and modesty, who is also one of Phoebe’s daughters. Bellamy is a surname of French origin meaning ‘beautiful friend’, which suits her to a T. Solana is very conventionally attractive, and she’s also one of the nicest girls you’ll ever meet…Provided that you don’t lay a finger on Ariel.

So obviously “Hart” and “Heart” having a double meaning, but a “hart” is also the name of a male deer in England, and I see Peter as a handsome young buck. A leader of his pack, looks gentle enough, but will absolutely gore you with his antlers if you get too close.

And the name Peter? Brain said: “What’s a good name that Benjamin can yell in a British accent? Peter. That’ll do.” Also lots of pirates with names consisting of “Pete” (though Peter hates this nickname)

Thanks for the tag! I put careful thought into what goes on my character playlists, so I’m so down for an opportunity to talk about why certain songs are on my character playlists. This is going to be quite lengthy:

Number one on my playlist for Kunio is Dead Bird by McCafferty. It honestly fits him so well that it might as well have been written about him. Case in point, the lyrics:

-‘My grandpa said don’t be afraid of death, he’s just your oldest friend’ Kunio was very close with his grandpa, Ryunosuke, and remembers him fondly despite the fact that he died when Kunio was very young. Ryunosuke was a classic case of Mr Sadman Deadwife, and he often told Kunio that he didn’t fear death because it meant that he’d be reunited with his late wife, Saki

-‘See this body? It’s not for me, and the way my bones are breaking is the way my skin will bleed’ Kunio has performed multiple acts of self-mutilation because his mother Nozomi hated his physical appearance, especially his eyes, because they’re the exact same color as his father’s. He gouged his left eye out in an attempt to make himself look less like his father, and make Nozomi hate him less, but needless to say, it didn’t work

-‘She’s playing on the swings, and she’s learning words like ‘fuck’ and ‘hate’ and I know just what it means’ I think this line captures Kunio’s feelings of having to grow up too quickly due to his mother’s abuse, neglect, and alcoholism. He was about three years old when he learned what both of those words meant

-‘She’s just like her mom, she’ll end up lonely and sad’ Kunio inherited his high alcohol tolerance, as well as his fiery temper from Nozomi, both of which are things he hates about himself, and he wants to distance himself from her as much as possible so that he won’t end up miserable and alone like her

-‘She’ll end up alone with rings, with rings in her mouth, with guns in her house, with holes in her heart’ Oh, boy. This line speaks to me about Kunio’s fear of his trauma and mental illness pushing away his loved ones. He’s convinced that admitting to having trauma and mental illness will lead his friends thinking that he’s not worth their time, and thus abandoning him

As for Nathaniel, the top of my playlist for him is Cough It Out by The Front Bottoms, and again, the lyrics are why:

-‘I am delusional with love’ Nathaniel met his abusive ex, Theo, when they were fourteen. Theo told Nathaniel that he needed him and made him feel special, and Nathaniel thought that it was because Theo loved him, but in truth, Theo told him that to manipulate him and isolate him from others. Nathaniel has a hard time dealing with the fact that his love was a lie

-‘I don’t care if you’re not sorry, I forgive you, and with or without your support I will continue’ Despite everything that Theo did, Nathaniel can’t bring himself to hate him, and all he wants to do when he cuts Theo out of his life is forget about him and move on

-‘You never know what you’ve been through until you pause and cough it out’ Nathaniel didn’t fully realise the extent of his trauma until he cut Theo off, and how much he allowed life in the foster system to negatively impact his decisions. He was never loved or wanted by anyone, which led to his suicide attempt, and then, Theo told him that he loved him, which led to him allowing Theo to manipulate and abuse him simply because he was desperate to be loved

-‘It’s getting harder and harder and harder and harder for me to call you a friend’ This one is kind of a double entendre. As Theo’s behavior becomes more toxic and abusive, Nathaniel finds it harder and harder to justify being his friend, and keeping him in his life. Conversely, Nathaniel struggles with the fact that he’s in love with Kunio; he doesn’t want to be friends with him anymore, and instead wants to be his boyfriend

-‘Whatever I did for you last year, I cannot do again, I will not do again’ When Nathaniel finally cuts Theo off, he realises that he can’t keep making excuses for his behavior, and that Theo has to face the consequences of his abuse, and end up alone

And lastly, here’s Ariel, and the song I chose for her is Out Of Control by Nothing’s Carved In Stone, again because of the lyrics:

-‘I have copied you and made up myself’ Ariel is good at mirroring the behavior of others, and she carefully constructed her online persona as SeleneDev to be as appealing to her audience as possible

-‘I fight with my obsession, I feel the tension, a need for caution’ Ariel is driven by her desire to be successful, and to keep making stellar games so that she can stay relevant on the internet, and keep her income stable. However, she’s also very careful about the information she gives out online, as she doesn’t want to give her fans anything that they could use to track down who she really is. She tells them basic things like her likes and dislikes to make herself look humble and relatable, but avoids telling them things like where she’s from, or her real name

-‘I can always show my everything to you, if this moment was for me’ Ariel wants to be able to tell Solana that she’s Blue Moon, but she can’t unless she can verify with certainty that Solana is the true identity of her partner, Red Sun

-‘All the things I knew, the world I trusted, would be the same if I remained inside my protective castle and kept my eyes closed’ At the start of the book, Ariel is dead set on remaining hidden, and is too afraid to approach Solana and make any connections to people in the real world. As the story unfolds, Ariel’s life dramatically changes as she gets more comfortable with sharing her true self with Solana, and if it wasn’t for her, and the opening of the story, nothing would have changed in Ariel’s life

-‘Words are just a toy that people play with, it’s superficial’ This lyric captures Ariel’s hatred of the false sense of justice that a lot of the people around her had; her classmates, who were all training to go into policing like her, claimed to stand for justice, but they refused to help Ariel get justice for what happened to her because their university would have lost funding if the owner’s son was imprisoned for raping her

Ok, you know what, since I’m getting tagged alot lately, and after seeing myself being tagged so many times, I’m going to make my own tag game! 

Playlist character personality tag: 

So, here’s the rules. 

You choose a character that you want to talk about, then from your playlist, or even from the songs you know, you choose a specific song that most relates to your character and explain why you think that this song reminds you of that character by analyzing the song.

Let me give you an example: 

So with an ask, I explained that when I listen to Ex’s and Ohs, I can’t help but think of Marielle. Let me explain what makes me think of that.

The voice - I swear, I don’t know if it’s Elle’s actual voice or the effects behind it, but I can’t help but I think that the way she speaks makes me think of Marielle, even if I don’t imagine it being her actual voice. 

 The hard beats throughout - I think with the cute voice and the beat, it low-key reminds me of Marielle’s small, pink jellyfish, wearing a long pink dress and you’d think that maybe she’s maybe another princess peach. Wrong! She can be stubborn, fierce, and is a force that you shouldn’t mess with! The guitar riff really helps with that.

The travel - In Elle’s lyrics, she mentions travelling from place to place, and Marielle does something similar. Just not because of finding herself in the entanglements of finding better guys. I think Marielle is all about the moving outside and being free to explore seems to be her mojo. 

The lyrics - Some of the way Elle delivers the words is sassy. Even the chorus, that is the part that I’d imagine Marielle singing in the middle of the castle, even though Elaine doesn’t really like the thought of that. ‘Hey no one’s here, so I’ve got to sing!’  

Also, the "Climbing over mountains and a-sailing overseas" is a relatable thing of Marielle, however the being haunted by ghosts… I really wonder what could have happened to her.  (I haven’t really explored that enough, but I could look into it for investigation purposes. 🧐)

The instruments - I really like the beginning it gives a sass to her, but with the acoustic guitar, it makes Marielle approachable. but with the harder beats to the electric guitar just makes me think of how she doesn’t like giving up easily to what she cares about. The parts where there’s less instruments reminds me of her contemplative attitude to things at times, but she doesn’t show it much to other people and prefers to be all fun and child-like. 

So far in the process, I don’t imagine Marielle having Exs, but I do imagine that with the travelling and what not, she’s got herself into a few hiccups with others, which has got her into the entanglements that she goes and faces with her friends. 

So this is my thoughts between this song and Marielle! I’m not too sure if there’s any other tag games like this, but I hope you enjoy it and spread the game around!

Dinner. It’s the one time of day that I have time to cook a proper meal, and Nathaniel has time to sit down and eat it with me.

2.) What drives you to succeed?

Spite. I could go on a long tangent about my love of art and how I want Granddad to look down at me and be proud, which I’m not gonna lie, is partly what drives me, but mostly I’m driven by the desire to spite my mum. I’m going to be happy and successful, and live out my life with my husband, meanwhile that bitch is going to die of alcohol poisoning alone in her shitty apartment. 1.) What is your favorite season?

Autumn. I like it when it’s cold, but not too cold, and there are leaves falling all over the city. I like to pick up cool-looking leaves and see if I can do anything with them, like press them into bookmarks, or use them to inspire one of my creations. I should try making a leaf dragon sometime, like, maybe one inspired by a satanic leaf-tailed gecko…

2.) Where would you like to visit?

I live pretty close to Scotland, and I’d kinda like to visit the highlands sometime, the views of the mountains look incredible. We’d have to go in the summer, though, because hiking through the mountains when it’s cold would be bad for Nathaniel. I’d be too worried about him catching a cold, and because he has no immune system, a cold would leave him bedridden for at least a week…

3.) When do you usually go to sleep?

Always sometime after midnight. I’m a night owl, and I’m always either working on my art, or having…Fun time with Nathaniel. He has a surprisingly high libido…And a whole host of crazy kinks. I don’t wanna give you freaks the ins and outs of our sex life, but it’s pretty wild.

Kunio:

1.) Kunio is a heavy drinker with a ridiculously high alcohol tolerance. He prefers expensive cocktails, as cheap alcohol, especially cheap wine, reminds him too much of his mother. He’s partial to vodka martinis, but also enjoys appletinis and yellow birds

2.) He’s neither a cat person nor a dog person—He’s a bird person. If you get him talking about his pet parakeet, Lucky, he will not shut up about him. He loves his foul-mouthed little parakeet as if he’s his child

3.) He was terrified of women as a child, and he got in a lot of trouble at school because he would yell at female teachers and throw chairs at them when they approached him in an attempt to get them to back off, as he was scared that they would hit him or lock him in the closet like his mother did. To this day, he will not let any women touch him, not even his female friends

4.) He wants to get into sport climbing, and one of the reasons why is because he wants to build some muscle. He wants to be able to carry Nathaniel bridal style

Nathaniel:

1.) Nathaniel is canonically demiromantic. He initially thought that he was aromantic, but since he got moved around a lot due to being in foster care, he never got close enough to anyone to develop a crush on them, that was, until he met Theo, his ex, and the only boyfriend he has had aside from his current boyfriend, Kunio

2.) Nathaniel is a monogamous hoe, if that makes any sense. He’s a prude when he’s single, but when he gets locked down, he’s a freak in bed. The things he’s into would make even the most hardcore fanfiction writer blush

3.) Nathaniel’s abdomen is covered in scars. One is from his kidney transplant, and the others are from self-harming in the months leading up to his suicide attempt. The suicide attempt is the reason why he needed a kidney transplant

4.) Nathaniel’s dream home is a Victorian house out in the country. He dreams of cultivating a rose garden and walking to a nearby village to buy freshly baked bread from a local bakery every morning

Ariel:

1.) Ariel loves magical girl anime, and her favorite anime is Precure. Her favorite seasons are Go! Princess Precure, Heartcatch Precure, and Fresh Pretty Cure, in that order. Precure is the reason why Ariel dreamt of becoming a magical girl all throughout her teenage years and in her early 20s. Now that she’s a magical girl, she will criticise magical girl anime for their inaccuracies about what being a magical girl is really like

2.) She despises the show Friends, as she believes it to have tarnished the name of her benefactor, Phoebe. She hates that when most people hear the name Phoebe, they think of a character from a mediocre 90s sitcom, and not the titan of prophecy and intellect

3.) Ariel is a surprisingly good swimmer, and her preferred stroke is butterfly. Weirdly, she finds it much easier than breast stroke or front crawl

4.) She hates coffee, and she also can’t stand tea, except for matcha, which she loves. Her fuel of choice when she’s working is white chocolate protein shakes

Solana:

1.) Solana doesn’t have a good relationship with either of her parents. Her dad was never in the picture, and her mom is extremely judgemental and overbearing. She calls often, but Solana rarely, if ever returns her calls

2.) She loves romance novels, especially friends to lovers romance novels. If the MCs don’t adore each other right from the start, she will not be interested. Conversely, she hates enemies to lovers books, and avoids everything containing that trope like the plague

3.) Solana is graysexual. She’s ok with sex every once in a while, but could honestly go the rest of her life without ever having sex again, and she rarely experiences sexual attraction.

4.) Her all-time favorite games are Black Star and Oshi, both of which were created by Ariel, but she doesn’t know that until just after the halfway point of the story…

Let’s start with Peter Hart

Facts about Peter:

Shot himself through the back of his calf as a teenager. He got scolded relentlessly for it by Davey and Georgie who were quick to patch him up.

Before getting with Benjamin, I put Peter down as “treasuresexual” Yeah. Really. 😂He didn’t have any eyes for anyone other than Benjamin, making Peter canonically homosexual.

His moniker “Peter The Golden” holds many meanings. To rival pirates and ports, it’s on account of his golden hair and black-and-gold aesthetic. To his crew family, he is “The Golden Hart”

Peter was always a rascal from early youth to adulthood. Often times, Peter would get caught and arrested for pickpocketing residents in his hometown. Sometimes, Officer Ralph would bring Peter home to his scolding mother in metal cuffs. Other times, Peter spent the night in the clink. Due to his mischief, Officer Ralph and Mary Hart became acquainted with each other often, and eventually got together.

Facts about Benjamin:

Has an insanely high alcohol tolerance. He got used to the wine and frivolities of parliament when he was around all the royals.

Is bilingual in English and French. He can hold conversation with another bilingual crewmate Jacques du Lorraine. He’s also hurled insults at Peter in fluent French, causing Jacques to nearly double over in laughter.

Is the shortest and smallest member of The Golden Phoenix Gang. Most members of the crew are around Peter’s height of 196-199cm, though with VASTLY different builds (Davey has more of a dad bod, and Peter is just ripped). Benji, on the other hand, rests at 170cm with a very thin build. Canonically, he is a twink.

Is both the luckiest and unluckiest member of The Golden Phoenix Gang. In a tabletop game, he would either roll 1s or 20s. Nothing in between 😂

Moving on to YWIMC:

Facts about Noah:

Is originally from a small farm town in Georgia. He took voice lesson training to try and hide his southern accent, but when Noah lets his guard down and gets comfortable, it can sometimes slip through.

Double majoring in History and Architecture. He’s 23 and already in grad school, which should say a thing or two with how hard he works himself and almost can work off of fumes alone

Has Autism Spectrum Disorder (level 1). This is canon and heavily alluded in the story from his sensory processing difficulties, to his aversion to crowds, social anxiety, hyper focus on his studies, special interest in bridges and architecture, difficulties in expressing emotions, and finding the comfort of home to be his most productive and happiest space. ASD can be expressed differently in other people (I have it), so I pulled from my own experiences to write Noah here.

Facts about Ali:

Ali had a rich father who tried to get him to be a sultan/powerful influential figure in Saudi Arabia. His father arranged a marriage for Ali, who fled the day of.

Is a practicing Muslim. He is halal, observes Ramadan, and yes—prays from the Quran. A lot of his character is identity struggles; his religion says that his sexuality is sinful, but that’s how Ali was born, and that’s what makes Ali happy. This creates an internal conflict with how he tries suppressing his desires, and often wonders if he should have sacrificed his own happiness to appease his father, and his god. This dichotomy is very complicated, and has been a challenge to write….but he will get a happy ending with Noah 👍

Has had previous masters with wicked hearts die horrific and ironic deaths. For example, one of his masters wished for 70 wives who were all virgins. His death? Stabbed 70 times while he slept, each wife stabbing him once. Another master wished for glorious fame and fortune, only for dissenters to stone him to death. Ever heard of the tale of The Monkey’s Paw? That applies here.

…Is this a question or the opening verse of a poem? Because that doesn’t sound like something any real person would ever do. Especially not me. I mean, yeah, I hitch-hiked up to Newcastle, a city I knew nothing about and had never visited, but I didn’t spend all of my money to get there, and I only went there because it was far away from hometown. Who would be stupid enough to spend all of their money to get to an unfamiliar place, especially if there was nothing at said place that they wanted or needed to do?

2.) What would be the best dream you would experience?

No dream at all. The only dreams I ever have are horrific nightmares, so I’d prefer to just not be able to dream at all. 3.) What is something that you wish that you’d see again that is no longer there?

My granddad. He was the only relative I had who loved me, and he died when I was eight. Losing the only person who loved you as a kid really fucks you up…

J: The Wolf of course.

2. When did you feel safest and why?

J: Haha... That's quite a long time ago. (They let out a shrug) But y'know, that's all in the past.

3. if you could save just one other person who would it be?

J: One person... That's rather difficult to say. If were up to me, I'd go and try to save as many people as I can. And there'd be about five I would save.

4. What never fails to make you laugh?

Braedon losing. That's all I would say about it.

5. How can you tell if you’ll get along with someone?

J: What can I say? There was this... Girl I met a few years ago. I mean, her brother can be an ass, but it's like she's the complete opposite of it. Chattering along with people, trying to make sure that everyone has a good time, complimenting, and... (They shake their head) That was years ago! I am still not thinking about that one girl that I'd doubt I'd see again...!

7/10. You know what, I actually think Kunio would have a decent chance in The Hunger Games. He’s used to having to run, hide, and muffle his footsteps, as well as going days without food. He’ll absolutely kill to defend himself if he has to, and he’ll have no qualms about doing it. If he won, he’d probably win the same way that the District 6 victors won—By hiding until everyone else was dead

Kunio: Easily my granddad’s kiritanpo nabe. The recipe has been in his side of the family for well over a hundred years, and for good reason, it’s delicious, and it really hits the spot on a cold day, plus it’s a great way to use up leftover kiritanpo. Slice them into bite-sized pieces, and simmer them in chicken bone broth with ginger, chicken thighs, mushrooms, parsley, and burdock root…Shit, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it…

what is an experience (good or bad) that has turned you off or on to a food completely?

Ariel: The matcha choux au craquelin from Sugar Berry. The first time I went to Sugar Berry, it was really late, I hadn’t eaten all day, and the only things they had left were matcha cream puffs and coffee mousse cakes. I hate coffee so I got a matcha choux au craquelin, and it was the best thing I’ve ever tasted. The pastry was soft, but it was covered in a buttery matcha crumb that reminded me of crumble topping, and inside was matcha pastry cream, strawberries, and the whole thing was topped off with swirls of chantilly cream and a white chocolate drizzle. I go to Sugar Berry once a week to get a matcha choux au craquelin now, and whenever my girlfriend visits, she brings me at least three.

Solana: And that’s because if I don’t bring you proper food, you won’t eat a proper meal the next day, babe. I know that cream puffs aren’t a proper meal, but they’re probably better for you than three cans of rock star and a packet of instant ramen…

if you could eliminate one piece of produce, meat, dairy or sweets off the earth what would it be?

Kunio: Green peppers can get fucked, in a bad way. Last time I tried to eat one, I threw up. That and my granddad embarrassed himself in public one time because of green peppers. He tried to buy some at a farmers market, but he didn’t know the English word for green pepper, so he got some funny looks when he asked if they had ピーマン…(Piiman)

and dessert is normally saved for last, but if you could what would you order for your entree at a restaurant?

Ariel: I’d skip the entreè and go straight for dessert. I’m not big on savory foods. I prefer sweets, and if I could I’d eat sweets for every meal.

Nathaniel: One, I’ve never had the time, two, my boyfriend cooks all of our meals, and three, the last time I tried to cook something all by myself, I set off the smoke alarm…

Kunio: I think you’d better stay out of the kitchen unless I’m around to help you, babe. I’m the one who wears the chef’s hat in this relationship, and for good reason…

Ali’s baklava. It’s got a flaky, buttery crust that just melts on your tongue, a thin layer of chocolate and hazelnut spread between the sheets of sweet dough, topped with a thin drizzle of hot, chocolate syrup and powdered sugar. Sometimes, he adds a few sliced banana to it and the flavor is, mmmm. ✨-Noah (YWIMC)

what is an experience (good or bad) that has turned you off or on to a food completely?

Oh God, I cringe at the memory….Harley had me go fishing for our meal once, and the squish of fish fry between my fingers is a feeling I will not soon forget. The smell of raw fish, bait, rust from the sea-weathered equipment. Ugh. I’ll stick with potatoes and fruit, thank you very much. I know Peter will try to force me to eat a protein, but I can’t stomach looking at the face of a dead fish. Mmmm…perhaps if it was in a stew…..-Benjamin (Peter Hart)

Oh Gosh!! Off of all of EARTH? Mmmm…that’s a tough one…..do drinks count? I’d get rid of all that gross alcohol immediately. It burns my throat and makes me feel dizzy. And…maybe dark roast coffee. It’s waaaaay too bitter….unless you add a lot of cream, sugar, milk, caramel….chocolate….
