In honour of Storytelling Saturday (And because today is National Make Your Dream Come True Day (I didn’t know that until just now!) what are your ocs’ dreams? Starting with mine, of course:

Kunio: Opening an in-person store for his art, and the paint supplies and tabletop RPGs he sells. That, and moving to a small house in the country, near the mountains, getting married, having two sons, and owning a flock of parrots, and some crows

Nathaniel: Opening a boutique for his clothes, getting married, and having kids. He wants to adopt older children, as he grew up in the system, and he knows how difficult it is for older kids to get adopted

Ariel: Creating three bestselling games (She’s already made two), finding a girlfriend who’s cool with her being asexual, and never demands sex from her, and she’d never admit this aloud, but she really wants to be a magical girl, even though she’s now in her 20s. (She’s going to become one but she doesn’t know that yet)

Solana: Becoming an independent Vtuber. She’s already a very successful Vtuber, signed to a massive agency, but she wants to go indie so that she can have control over her content, as she hates the content she’s currently forced to make. Also finding a girlfriend who doesn’t just want her for her body

She held out a red velvet box, opening it to reveal a pair of golden sun shaped earrings with rubies glittering in the centres. “I will give you the use of my earrings, and in turn, the use of my power, which you will use to help Blue Moon defeat Orpheus. Do we have a deal?”

Combining tags so I'll make it around double the standard length! Here's a snippet from Echoes of the Etan, Thesselia's perspective:

The body landed at her feet, kicking up the dust of the hamada. Blotchy ochre skin, withered as papyrus yet slick with a sickening sheen like it wept from the pores—it was like a novice priest attempted the embalming process on a corpse left a day sweltering beneath the Tepeccan sun. Thesselia toed the talisman at his sleeve the right way up, studying its crude but distinctive visage. Melops. ‘You knew this one?’  Darush had disrobed. The foetid mass he’d had thrown over his lap in flight seemingly compelled him to brave the rays in his underthings. ‘A merchant,’ he said. ‘He was the one I could get to without pressing my luck.’ ‘He, and how many others besides?’  ‘Three more found, since they perched in the canyon. This is by Kiresh’s word, though he does seem adamant this time.’ He neatly folded a rock into his discarded robes and hurled them with his spearman’s arm. They careened into the crater, skittering stones that chased after them till all were out of sight. Darush’s phiretan was unaffected by the sudden disturbance, chittering lowly where they had landed. Her head was still, tilted at the ground, a single eye tracking something in the dust. Then, in a flash of colour, she had snatched it up, thrown back her crested head, and swallowed it whole. A scorpion. Together, Thesselia and Darush regarded the thing that was once a man in threadbare linen robes. A merchant of three and thirty, denoted by the polished beads of acacia at his sleeve. A shrivelled, sweating husk, old as time—and yet as little as a week ago, very much alive.

Easy answers for this one. White roses are one of Nathaniel’s main motifs, so if he had a fragrance, it would definitely smell like roses, and maybe orange blossom too. Orange blossom was a popular flavour/scent in the Victorian era, and despite him being from the modern world, he dresses like a Victorian gentleman.

As for Solana…Hers would probably smell like raspberries and dark chocolate. Something sweet, flirty, and rich, just like her.

Thanks for the tag! Today I'm going with Solana Leto Bellamy, love interest of my adult magical girl series, Night Of The Blue Moon!

Are you named after anyone?

Kind of. My first name, Solana, doesn't come from anyone, but my middle name, Leto, comes from the goddess of childbirth and modesty. Maybe Phoebe will introduce me to Leto one day? I'd love to meet my namesake!

When was the last time you cried?

Yesterday at work. I was...Forced to do...Things I don't wanna talk about...Again. I'm Akai Starlight, an agency Vtuber with millions of subscribers, and I hate it. I hate working for VSweeties, and I hate all of the shit that my boss puts me through, but I can't quit until I find another job.

Do you have any kids?

No, and I don't want any. I don't like kids, and I know that some women end up permanently disabled from childbirth, so...Never happening.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

A fair bit. It adds to my charm when I'm on camera as Kirameki Sunstone, my indie Vtuber persona. I'm hoping that Kirameki Sunstone will get me out of having to be Akai Starlight.

What is the first thing you notice about people?

Their eyes. I can instantly spot whatever someone's feeling in their eyes. I see way too much misery, boredom, and people trying to hide that they've been crying.

What is your eye color?:

Blue and gold. I have central heterochromia.

Any special talents?

I'm good at singing, playing videogames, and entertaining an audience. I have to be, though, because I'm a Vtuber, and if I wasn't good at any of those three things, I wouldn't have my job.

Scary movies or happy endings?

Both! I'm into cheesy analog horror and slasher films, but I also love rom-coms. My all-time favorite movie is But I'm A Cheerleader, partly because it helped me come to terms with the fact that I'm a lipstick lesbian.

Where were you born?

Brentwood, Essex, England. If you heard me speak, you'd know instantly that I'm an Essex girl.

Do you have any pets?

No, but my girlfriend, Ariel has a cat.

How tall are you?

About 5'11". I love being taller than my girlfriend because I love being able to sweep her off her feet <3

What was your favorite subject in school?

Is that a serious question? It is? Oh, well…I wasn’t good at anything at school. I didn’t do well in classrooms, or on sports fields. I don't understand Shakespeare, I'm bad at math, can't balance an equation to save my life, and I'm no good at any sports. I’m 25 and I’ve never had to use a thing I learned in high school in my life.

What is your dream job?

Indie Vtuber. I don’t wanna be ultra famous, I just wanna be famous enough to be Kirameki Sunstone full-time instead of working for VSweeties.

[exhales] Maybe after a grandfather that I didn't get to know? My mother never talked much about our family. Maybe I'll skip this one.

When was the last time you cried?

Do you have any kids?

Yes! Allison just turned seven. She's just the best. [smiles]

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

When I do say something ironic or sarcastic, people tend to not understand me correctly right away... so I try not to. It's too awkward.

What is the first thing you notice about people?

Whether or not they're friendly.

What is your eye color?

Blue! Couple of baby blues.

Any special talents?

I used to play the piano. I don't know if that counts as a talent? [laughs] I do still play the guitar from time to time. And I used to sing.

Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings! [lying]

Where were you born?

Westfield Hospital, Massachusetts. It's the nearest hospital from my hometown Hillsburg.

Do you have any pets?

Sadly no! I would love to have a dog, but I don't have the time. I volunteer at Helping Paw – I don't think you've heard of it, it's a tiny dog shelter just outside of Hillsburg. We've got some amazing dogs there.

How tall are you?

6'1. I'm told I'd be taller if my posture wasn't this bad.

What was your favorite subject in school?

English, if I had to choose, I guess. Loved the theater club though! I was even in a high school band! [laughs]

What is your dream job?

Tough question! I'd love to have my own shelter someday. But the job I'm working right now isn't too bad, so I don't think about... dreams, I guess. Aw, man, that sounds depressing! [laughs]

Ariel sat down in the seat opposite her. “I don’t hate what I do for a living.”

“Then you’re one of the lucky ones. I hate my job so much that I cry on the way to work every morning, but I can’t quit until I have something else lined up, and there aren’t a lot of jobs out there that would pay enough for me to afford my apartment.”

The sound of Noah breathing was enough for Ali to melt in relief. Despite it only being a nightmare, Ali was so thankful to know that Noah was okay. Thank Allah he was okay.

Shikabane’s idea won by a landslide. They both knew that Shikabane was going to win—He had the bigger fan base, and more people would agree with him, even if he was objectively wrong. Being wrong was part of his unspoken plan to boost Kirameki Sunstone’s popularity, though. Once people saw that Solana was right, they’d flock to support her. 

“Looks like you win, Shikabane. We’re going to the cafe first,” Solana sighed in mock defeat, “But we’re trying the variety show sting next, ok?”

“We won’t have to. We’re going to catch Anzu right here and now, in the cafe,” he quipped playfully.

Noah shifted his jacket out of the way to find the lamp. It was glowing red, almost steaming, as if the hot metal matched Ali’s fluster. As Noah reached down to touch the lamp, he hissed and pulled back once his skin grazed the metal. “Ouch…!!”

‘Noah! Don’t touch the lamp….!!’ Ali sighed roughly in stern worry.

Thanks for the tag! I’m warning you now, these explanations will be lengthy. I put careful thought into all of my characters’ names, and I’m going to infodump the hell out of them now. *Ahem* Name Nerd Power, Activate!

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but Kunio is named for Kunio Yanagita, a Japanese folklorist best known for the Tōno Monogatari, a compilation of folk tales and local legends from the city of Tōno, most of which feature some species of yokai. I took inspiration from the Tōno Monogatari to build some of the mythological elements of the story, and y’all know that Kunio is a mythology nerd, especially when it comes to tengu. As for the name itself, Kunio, like most Japanese names, can have a lot of different meanings depending on the kanji used, but I imagine that Kunio’s name would be written with the same kanji as his namesake, that being: 國男 (Kuni, meaning country or kingdom, and ō, meaning man, or male). As for Kunio’s surname, Yoshioka, the most common kanji combination for that surname is 吉岡 (Yoshi = Good, fortunate and oka = hill, knoll), so I went with that. This surname was chosen for cruel irony’s sake; It is pretty ironic for someone who had such a terrible childhood to have a name meaning good or fortunate. (I also debated naming Kunio Sachio, meaning lucky/fortunate man, but I thought that that would’ve been a bit too on the nose…)

Nathaniel is a Hebrew name which can be roughly translated as, ‘gift of God’, in keeping with his angelic motif, and Kunio’s feelings of being given Nathaniel as an apology from the universe for his shitty childhood. His middle name, Azrael, is from the angel of death in Abrahamic mythology, and this was chosen due to Kunio feeling as if his old human self truly died the moment he met Nathaniel. Nathaniel’s surname, Bythesea, is a rare old English surname from Somerset which is on the verge of extinction (That meaning that there are very few living people who have it). Nathaniel was born in Somerset, and I thought that giving him a rare surname would emphasise how alone he is in the world, and how he has no living relatives who want him in their lives.

Ariel is a moon of the planet Uranus, who, in Greek Mythology, is the father of the titans. Ariel gets her powers from Phoebe, one of Uranus’ daughters, and Phoebe is the titan of prophecy, intellect, and the moon. Her middle name, Selene, comes from the goddess of the moon, who is also the daughter of Theia, the titan that her partner, Solana gets her powers from. Ariel’s surname, Gianapoulou, is the feminine form of Gianapoulous, meaning ‘child of Giannis’. Giannis can be roughly translated as ‘god is gracious’, in reference to Ariel’s many meetings and dealings with the Greek gods. She has met Hades, Hecate, and Thanatos, and I have plans for her to meet more of the Olympian pantheon, as well as some more of the titans.

Solana’s name means ‘sunshine’ and it was chosen to reflect Solana’s sun motif, and act as a parallel to Ariel’s moon motif. She also gets her powers from Theia, the titan of radiance, and Theia is the mother of Helios, the god of the sun. Her middle name, Leto, comes from the goddess of motherhood and modesty, who is also one of Phoebe’s daughters. Bellamy is a surname of French origin meaning ‘beautiful friend’, which suits her to a T. Solana is very conventionally attractive, and she’s also one of the nicest girls you’ll ever meet…Provided that you don’t lay a finger on Ariel.

So obviously “Hart” and “Heart” having a double meaning, but a “hart” is also the name of a male deer in England, and I see Peter as a handsome young buck. A leader of his pack, looks gentle enough, but will absolutely gore you with his antlers if you get too close.

And the name Peter? Brain said: “What’s a good name that Benjamin can yell in a British accent? Peter. That’ll do.” Also lots of pirates with names consisting of “Pete” (though Peter hates this nickname)

Benjamin Bartholomew

(If anyone is named Benjamin Matthias Bartholomew, I apologize in advance for what I’m about to say)

I basically asked my brain: “Pick the most pompous, pretentious, princely sounding name you can think of.” And this is what it came up with. Also his initials are BB, and he is, indeed, BB ✨

Solana did as she was told and took the lead, slipping her tongue into Ariel’s mouth and tasting every inch of her. Ariel tasted like everything they’d been eating that evening; fancy cheese and wine, crusty bread, and cured meats, and then she tasted cherry lip balm as Ariel pushed through and went to work on her mouth. Solana shivered as Ariel moaned, and then sighed into her mouth, leaving her lips tingling. Despite her lack of experience, Ariel was a fairly decent kisser, and it took a minute and a half before she finally felt the need to break away for air.

I prefer sweets. I don’t like spicy food at all, unless you count jambalaya. Does that count? It has peppers in it, but not chilli peppers…

I’ve only kissed a handful of people. I’m like, a prude most of the time, but the second that someone ties me down, they expect me to become a freak. Fortunately, Ariel doesn’t expect me to get freaky with her. Having an asexual girlfriend is the best for someone like me…

3.) What does your ideal home look like?

I haven’t thought about it much. I really like where I live now, but ideally, I’d like a house on the outskirts of the city. Somewhere with enough space for me to have a designated game room, but like, in the city centre where I can still get to everything I need. I don’t want to have to drive twenty minutes to the nearest convenience store when I’m out of toilet paper, or some shit.

1. I’d be the hero! I want to protect all the people I love; Ita, Yoji, Hidz, Dr. Akiyama…I-I’ve been trained by my brothers to be a protector of the Earth Realm, so I’ll do my very best to keep everyone safe!

1.) Do you celebrate birthdays?

I like to go on a big bender on my birthday, like, enough to make me forget what century I’m in. I always have shit days at work on my birthday—I have to do a birthday stream, and then special OnlyFans photoshoots, and then when I get home my mum will likely call and ask me to move back to Essex, again, because she hates the fact that I live all the way down in Winchester now. I usually need at least three Woo woos and a baggie of ketamine to get me through the night.

2.) Where do you go when you need to unwind?

I used to go to the rooftop of my apartment building, but Phoebe, Hades and Theia like using it as a training ground for Blue Moon and I, so now I go to the rooftop of the cathedral, or to Sugar Berry, this patisserie at the edge of town. It’s always quiet in there, and it’s close to the VSweeties studios, so I can always go there if I’ve had a bad day at work…Which is almost every day.

3.) Have you ever meditated?

No. I don’t believe in that mindfulness stuff, it’s a waste of time because it doesn’t solve your problems. Meditation isn’t going to get me out of my horrible job, or help me defeat Orpheus and Eurydice. Or make my mum stop begging me to move back to Essex…

Life is to enjoy each moment, big and small. To feel the sun on my face, the wind on my wings, and the rain on my skin. To experience joys and sorrows, ups and downs, ins and outs—to just be—unshackled, unwavering, undeniably me.

2. What do you think is your biggest weakness?

I guess I can be a bit naive and too trusting at times, haha….I just like seeing the best in people ✨

3. Do you consider yourself a risk taker?

Not often, but had I not escaped the Heavenly Realms and flown to Earth, I would never have experienced the joys that this realm has to offer. The beauty of nature, the people…Ita….I can’t imagine life without him now.

Thanks for the tag! I’ve already done this with Ariel and Solana’s casual outfits, but now I wanna give a little insight as to what their magical girl outfits look like. I don’t have official designs for them yet, but this is just a bit of inspo as to what I have in mind while writing them.

I built Ariel’s entire persona as Blue Moon around her fighting style. Ariel’s weapon is a torch that allows her to launch bright and flashy lasers at her enemies by swinging it like a gymnastics ribbon, so I wanted Ariel’s outfit to look graceful and delicate, but practical at the same time. She is canonically a ballerina, so ballet shoes were a must, and paired with a tutu, her outfit allows her as much freedom of movement as possible. You will die if you try to fight her, and she’ll look graceful and elegant while she’s killing you:

As for Solana, her fighting style doesn’t require as much movement as Ariel’s, so I had a little more creative leeway with her. She gets her powers from Theia, the titaness of sight, jewels and radiance, so I wanted her outfit to be very bright and to have a lot of heavy jewellery. Thanks for the asks! Myrna O’Shaughnessy is Solana’s roommate, and a former Vtuber who was fired from VSweeties, the Vtuber agency that Solana currently works for under the name, Akai Starlight. VSweeties is owned by Viceroy Steadman/Orpheus, and he is known for sexually and emotionally exploiting the Vtubers who work for him, but Solana cannot afford to quit the agency as she has no other income. Myrna is currently helping Solana make it as an indie Vtuber, Kirameki Sunstone, so that she’ll be able to quit VSweeties.

As for Blood On A Yellow Rose, the title is in reference to the fact that the MC (Who I don’t have a name for yet) is a vampire, and yellow roses represent friendship and joy. The MC is a doctor who steals blood packs from the hospital she works at to feed herself with. She got turned in the 80s and isn’t very up to date with the modern world, and she is very much in denial about the fact that she’s aromantic. It’s not until she meets the terminally ill secondary MC that she comes to terms with her identity.

S-Tier of course belongs to Ariel and Solana. They are magical girls who are almost immortal, and one well-timed attack is all it would take for them to kill a human. They could probably also defeat the gods if they wanted to…

Kunio belongs in A-Tier because he falls under the realm of short, angry men who have seen more combat than the United States Navy. He’s only ever been in fights with street thugs and his mother, but he’s won most of them. He knows how to break someone’s hand if necessary, but he’s only had to do it once

Nathaniel’s in C-Tier because although he’s way too nice for his own good and he would never, ever intentionally start a fight with anyone, I feel like he could hold his own if necessary. He is able to defend himself, but he’s not much good at attacking, and really the best he can hope for is that he can stay up long enough to find an opportunity to slip away from his opponent

Kunio:

1.) Kunio is a heavy drinker with a ridiculously high alcohol tolerance. He prefers expensive cocktails, as cheap alcohol, especially cheap wine, reminds him too much of his mother. He’s partial to vodka martinis, but also enjoys appletinis and yellow birds

2.) He’s neither a cat person nor a dog person—He’s a bird person. If you get him talking about his pet parakeet, Lucky, he will not shut up about him. He loves his foul-mouthed little parakeet as if he’s his child

3.) He was terrified of women as a child, and he got in a lot of trouble at school because he would yell at female teachers and throw chairs at them when they approached him in an attempt to get them to back off, as he was scared that they would hit him or lock him in the closet like his mother did. To this day, he will not let any women touch him, not even his female friends

4.) He wants to get into sport climbing, and one of the reasons why is because he wants to build some muscle. He wants to be able to carry Nathaniel bridal style

Nathaniel:

1.) Nathaniel is canonically demiromantic. He initially thought that he was aromantic, but since he got moved around a lot due to being in foster care, he never got close enough to anyone to develop a crush on them, that was, until he met Theo, his ex, and the only boyfriend he has had aside from his current boyfriend, Kunio

2.) Nathaniel is a monogamous hoe, if that makes any sense. He’s a prude when he’s single, but when he gets locked down, he’s a freak in bed. The things he’s into would make even the most hardcore fanfiction writer blush

3.) Nathaniel’s abdomen is covered in scars. One is from his kidney transplant, and the others are from self-harming in the months leading up to his suicide attempt. The suicide attempt is the reason why he needed a kidney transplant

4.) Nathaniel’s dream home is a Victorian house out in the country. He dreams of cultivating a rose garden and walking to a nearby village to buy freshly baked bread from a local bakery every morning

Ariel:

1.) Ariel loves magical girl anime, and her favorite anime is Precure. Her favorite seasons are Go! Princess Precure, Heartcatch Precure, and Fresh Pretty Cure, in that order. Precure is the reason why Ariel dreamt of becoming a magical girl all throughout her teenage years and in her early 20s. Now that she’s a magical girl, she will criticise magical girl anime for their inaccuracies about what being a magical girl is really like

2.) She despises the show Friends, as she believes it to have tarnished the name of her benefactor, Phoebe. She hates that when most people hear the name Phoebe, they think of a character from a mediocre 90s sitcom, and not the titan of prophecy and intellect

3.) Ariel is a surprisingly good swimmer, and her preferred stroke is butterfly. Weirdly, she finds it much easier than breast stroke or front crawl

4.) She hates coffee, and she also can’t stand tea, except for matcha, which she loves. Her fuel of choice when she’s working is white chocolate protein shakes

Solana:

1.) Solana doesn’t have a good relationship with either of her parents. Her dad was never in the picture, and her mom is extremely judgemental and overbearing. She calls often, but Solana rarely, if ever returns her calls

2.) She loves romance novels, especially friends to lovers romance novels. If the MCs don’t adore each other right from the start, she will not be interested. Conversely, she hates enemies to lovers books, and avoids everything containing that trope like the plague

3.) Solana is graysexual. She’s ok with sex every once in a while, but could honestly go the rest of her life without ever having sex again, and she rarely experiences sexual attraction.

4.) Her all-time favorite games are Black Star and Oshi, both of which were created by Ariel, but she doesn’t know that until just after the halfway point of the story…

Let’s start with Peter Hart

Facts about Peter:

Shot himself through the back of his calf as a teenager. He got scolded relentlessly for it by Davey and Georgie who were quick to patch him up.

Before getting with Benjamin, I put Peter down as “treasuresexual” Yeah. Really. 😂He didn’t have any eyes for anyone other than Benjamin, making Peter canonically homosexual.

His moniker “Peter The Golden” holds many meanings. To rival pirates and ports, it’s on account of his golden hair and black-and-gold aesthetic. To his crew family, he is “The Golden Hart”

Peter was always a rascal from early youth to adulthood. Often times, Peter would get caught and arrested for pickpocketing residents in his hometown. Sometimes, Officer Ralph would bring Peter home to his scolding mother in metal cuffs. Other times, Peter spent the night in the clink. Due to his mischief, Officer Ralph and Mary Hart became acquainted with each other often, and eventually got together.

Facts about Benjamin:

Has an insanely high alcohol tolerance. He got used to the wine and frivolities of parliament when he was around all the royals.

Is bilingual in English and French. He can hold conversation with another bilingual crewmate Jacques du Lorraine. He’s also hurled insults at Peter in fluent French, causing Jacques to nearly double over in laughter.

Is the shortest and smallest member of The Golden Phoenix Gang. Most members of the crew are around Peter’s height of 196-199cm, though with VASTLY different builds (Davey has more of a dad bod, and Peter is just ripped). Benji, on the other hand, rests at 170cm with a very thin build. Canonically, he is a twink.

Is both the luckiest and unluckiest member of The Golden Phoenix Gang. In a tabletop game, he would either roll 1s or 20s. Nothing in between 😂

Moving on to YWIMC:

Facts about Noah:

Is originally from a small farm town in Georgia. He took voice lesson training to try and hide his southern accent, but when Noah lets his guard down and gets comfortable, it can sometimes slip through.

Double majoring in History and Architecture. He’s 23 and already in grad school, which should say a thing or two with how hard he works himself and almost can work off of fumes alone

Has Autism Spectrum Disorder (level 1). This is canon and heavily alluded in the story from his sensory processing difficulties, to his aversion to crowds, social anxiety, hyper focus on his studies, special interest in bridges and architecture, difficulties in expressing emotions, and finding the comfort of home to be his most productive and happiest space. ASD can be expressed differently in other people (I have it), so I pulled from my own experiences to write Noah here.

Facts about Ali:

Ali had a rich father who tried to get him to be a sultan/powerful influential figure in Saudi Arabia. His father arranged a marriage for Ali, who fled the day of.

Is a practicing Muslim. He is halal, observes Ramadan, and yes—prays from the Quran. A lot of his character is identity struggles; his religion says that his sexuality is sinful, but that’s how Ali was born, and that’s what makes Ali happy. This creates an internal conflict with how he tries suppressing his desires, and often wonders if he should have sacrificed his own happiness to appease his father, and his god. This dichotomy is very complicated, and has been a challenge to write….but he will get a happy ending with Noah 👍

Has had previous masters with wicked hearts die horrific and ironic deaths. For example, one of his masters wished for 70 wives who were all virgins. His death? Stabbed 70 times while he slept, each wife stabbing him once. Another master wished for glorious fame and fortune, only for dissenters to stone him to death. Ever heard of the tale of The Monkey’s Paw? That applies here.

Kunio could easily survive The Hunger Games.

7/10. You know what, I actually think Kunio would have a decent chance in The Hunger Games. He’s used to having to run, hide, and muffle his footsteps, as well as going days without food. He’ll absolutely kill to defend himself if he has to, and he’ll have no qualms about doing it. If he won, he’d probably win the same way that the District 6 victors won—By hiding until everyone else was dead

Nathaniel reads Wattpad

3/10. He does read fanfiction, but not on Wattpad. He’s been reading AO3 since he was twelve, and no other fanfiction site can compare to that place.

Solana can drive.

10/10. She can and she owns a car despite not needing to use it often.

Ariel almost drank the lethal dosage of caffeine once.

10/10. She once tried to drink five cans of Rock Star back to back while she was working on one of her games, Oshi. It did not end well, and she very nearly worked herself to death.
