When the angels stop falling and Castiel makes his way out of the trees, he finds himself alone and oceans away from the Winchesters. For once, Dean flies to him.

The spell fails—or works, as Castiel finds out—and the angels fall in the thousands. Landing in what he originally thinks is the middle of nowhere, Castiel soon learns that amid the fall, he landed as far away from Dean as possible—in France, of all places. After a quick phone call and some finagling with passports, Dean faces one of his fears and worms his way onto a plane to bring Castiel home. Only, both of them may have found more than they bargained for, in the end!

Après continues to be one of the most well-read works in this fandom, and rightly so! Taking place at the end of season nine, it features no high stakes commitments or endgames, and solely focuses on Dean and Castiel finally figuring it out. As well, imogenbynight also features Castiel’s knowledge of world languages through his travels, and Castiel uses them to both his advantage and to confess the words he could never say to Dena’s face.

Après also features an alternate canon to season nine’s concept of fallen angels, one that makes sense and also offers an explanation to Castiel’s predicament. Originally when I read this when it first posted, I remember sending it to everyone in fandom I knew, and then some, and it still holds up today! It also had imbedded art and a coda at the end, if you want even more of this universe.

If you haven’t read this already, or even if you have, Après is a wonderful read, long enough to be satisfying but still wanting more, as any good work should!

the one thing that probably may have slipped a lot of reader’s minds but was really important to me was the scene where OC realizes she won’t have spare underwear. Like that may be a small detail in the grand scheme of things but it’s something I didn’t expect Sammy to address at all! I was like damn how is she gonna survive on Tae’s clothes for that long and especially without her own set of undergarments? Like as a reader POV it was concerning and also bc I’m an overpacker when it comes to sleepovers and travelling and general so this tiny detail was about to be a minuscule point of contention but literally a two lines later you addressed it! And the conversation that followed between OC and Tae was so awkward and realistic in the best way possible. It just goes to show how detail oriented of a writer @chateautae is and I just absolutely love her for it. Also you can tell she did research with regards to the whole firefighter scenario and I think she deserves so much appreciation for crafting such a layered atmosphere, story and characters. The story is to DIE for and the chemistry between Tae and OC is through the roof and this is already a masterpiece in my books. The rest of my immediate reactions are in the tag and I don’t normally go on a tangent and reblog like this but I just wanted to applaud Sammy for that one detail 😭😭😭😭 Thank you for this story!!!!!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜
