Gluttony isn’t about food

or I can’t believe my catholic uprising is actually useful for once, and it’s for an otome game of all things.

So, there’s a lot , and by that I mean a lot, of things to be said about the original seven cardinal sins but the short of it is that they are personality traits but they’re also personification of princes of Hell (I think that information might be useful later on).

But right now what’s bothering me is that people don’t know what gluttony and greed are, worst of all they seem to conflate the two of them with the objects on which this vices are acted upon and that’s just… wrong.

Gluttony is all about overindulging yourself to the point of other people being in need because of that. For the most part of history since food was scarce and a fixed in amount,so the best example for gluttony was the person who ate too much leaving other people in hunger, but gluttony isn’t about food. Think about someone buying every color of a limited edition of a sneaker on a store leaving everyone behind in line with out any , that’s gluttony. A person buying all the tickets of a show/movie so they can watch it by themselves ? That’s gluttony. And yes, also the person getting all the free samples in a store is also gluttony. But the point is , gluttony isn’t just about food. Gluttony doesn’t have to be linked to food at all.

Greed on another hand is about getting pleasure out of owning stuff by pleasure out of just having the stuff. Again, historically a good example of a thing most people wanted to own for the sake of owning it was money, but it doesn’t have to be that. You bought all those books and now they’re stacked on your bookshelves and you don’t plan on reading them ? That’s greed.  You want to buy a whole collection of mugs just so you know you own them ? That’s greed. You’re putting your health, friends and family aside to study for a test so in the future you can have a nice job ? That’s greed, too. The best example of greedy people I can think of are hoarders, and most hoarders don’t own pricey stuff but things without value. Greed doesn’t have to be about money.

And while we’re here talking about sins The Simpsons put it perfectly once “ If you happy and you know it that’s a sin” and although those are vices they each can also be linked to virtues, because we’re talking about traits and qualities in a person’s personality not objects.

PRIDE 2021

Last month was Asian American Pacific Islander heritage month, so I drew a buncha characters. I was planning this giant panoramic poster of Asian American Pacific Islander LGBTQ+ characters in the game for this month, cause it’s Pride month.

There’s a lack of Asian American Pacific Islander LGBTQ+ content. Also not a lot of accurate portrayals in media. It’s really cool to see all these relatable characters in the game. (PS: If you’re interested in a pretty accurate portrayal of Asian Americans LGBTQ+, I can recommend a movie called “Saving Face”. It’s a romantic comedy about a lesbian couple that takes place in New York.)
