Was actually the first design that came to mind, although it didn’t look quite like that up in the brain

Another accident design, I was messing around with liquid graphite and ended up with this
Since these designs, Ash has gone through six redesigns, Smiley has gone through seven, Clover eleven and Camilla eight. I also learned how to draw, at least slightly better. The story has also changed so much. And to think I started this in like march is wild how much it’s changed in just a few months. I thought that was kinda neat
Fuck it, I couldn’t find proper markers so I used sharpie.
I wanted more earthy tones for Ash, to contrast with the bold colours of the dream world and the cool colours of the real world. The clothes were a Pinterest game of roulette, because fashion on there looks neat.
Smileys design has a lot to do with their backstory as an imaginary friend. I was going to keep with the full black but this looked more like a character .
A big part of the change in Clovers design has to do with changing him from a ringmaster to an inventor. I changed his head spikes to proper horns and removed the stitches to have a speaking character.
Camilla changed to blue tones instead of greys because they’re pretty, then to ocean blues because they fit nicer. And she has a pet snake named noodles! I was going based on my limited knowledge of a femme fatale and Elizabeth Swan.
I gotta learn digital at some point
Character Lore: Smiley
Trigger warning: Suicide, abuse, neglect, alcohol abuse, murder. Its not like horrific but I have no idea how the average person feels about such topic so I’m warning anyway
Twenty six years before Ash fell through the veil in the cardboard house, a girl named Hailey lived in its parallel.
Hailey was afflicted with horrible luck from birth, her mother dying during childbirth, and her father being a piece of shit.
Neglected since infancy, its a miracle she made it to the age of six, where she entered the first grade having missed kindergarten.
She was severely behind her peers in academics and social skills, getting bullied quite a bit for this.
Bitter and alone, she met her first and only friend. The silhouette of the small girl grinned up at her from the pavement.
Smiley outlasted the average imaginary friend, with Hailey insisting they were real until the age of eleven, when she learned that lying was the best route to staying out of trouble. She stopped talking about Smiley, but not to them. The two still maintained a close friendship.
Around this time, Hailey’s anger issues began to alienate her from others. She eventually learned that relying on anyone else was not the best idea.
And so this was life for five years, until the fateful day when Hailey was sixteen. Her father was home and angry and drunk out of his mind. He hit her, throwing her across the room. At this point something finally snapped in the girl’s head. She took a kitchen streakknife and stabbed her father with it.
(God that sounded like a creepy pasta murder, I will show myself into the bucket of tacks I belong in for writing those last two sentences)
Horrified, she turned the blade on herself, ignoring her friend’s pleas, and she took her life via her wrists, hence why Smiley wears those red leather cuffs
Two dying people and a a crumbling figment of the imagination must have been of interest for a younger deity who had crossed into the “real world” that night, intent on seeing it for themself.
The veil had thinned to such a degree allowing Smiley to stumble over, their last look at the world behind was of Hailey’s dying body.
Over their time there, a gateway had begun to root itself in the house, long known by neighborhood children as haunted. The “real world” house had fallen into disrepair, no one daring touch the place where such a tragedy occurred. On the other side of the gateway, through the veil, a broken home of cardboard and sadness had built itself, with Smiley still lingering on the other end, playing the children’s games of pretend she and Hailey used to play.
Fun facts about the character
•Hailey and Smiley had one stuffed rabbit growing up, and after a few years in the cardboard house, it appeared there too
• Camilla and Smiley are like sisters, Camilla taking her under her wing
• There is a long running dislike between Smiley and Clover, nobody knows why and they refuse to explain
•Smiley is the first character introduced in the dream world
•They love tea, especially fruity ones, by any of them are great
•While relatively small, they grow about an inch in early morning sunlight or late afternoon sunlight
•Their original voice made me lose mine for like a day it was super raspy
Im not even sure this will stay the same because I dont know if it’s allowed to be depicted in a cartoon
• Smiley used to always smile, hence their name. They gained the ability to frown and stuff upon moving to the Othwrworld
Something @wyfy-meltdown said gave me an idea, so I’m rolling with it!
On an older post about my cartoon, they said this
So I was thinking about creating some new deity’s, but keeping track of all my characters is a mess but I have a character with like no backstory so I gave her this
Camilla is Dusk, and she has a twin brother who is Dawn, they are both children of Day and Night. Technically they aren’t deities in the way their parents are. Both of them are travellers, Camilla being a sailor and Dawn having disappeared ten years prior to the story.
I dunno what or where this idea goes , but it greatly changes the relationship I had planned for Day and Night. Originally they were very far apart and rarely interacted, but if they raised Camilla and her brother (who I haven’t named yet) they would have had to be very close. I’m not sure what their relationship is yet, currently I’m going with friends but like a super deep friendship, since they’ve known each other since time eternal. Bestest soul friends? I toyed around with the idea of them being lovers but that seemed a tad boring. But I wanted to keep them raising the twins.
As for the sun and moon, they are merely manifestations of Day and Night, the stars are just stars, minus the morning and evening stars, those are Camilla and her brother.
The line between what is and isn’t a deity is a bit blurry because death isn’t a fully formed concept in the dream world, so nobody is truly alive or dead.

Digital drawing is a menace, anyways, because Clovers eyes are soulless voids its hard to draw emotions with them, so his eye shapes change based on emotion

Fuck it, unfinished character designs! Some new ones this time.
This is my design for night, I was going to have her be an owl, and have a half moon mask, but i went with more of a spider vibe (which is why its not done) because she lives in a web, like a dream catcher, which was actually her first design, to actually be the moon
I did decide to keep the owl beak because i fucking love owls they’re such cute little freaks. Anyway, I’m going to give her a different shirt, maybe add arm warmers
Next we got Day
Originally he was based on Apollo, so my vague approximation of an ancient greek god, with the toga and all that, he was also supposed to be a fall tree. But he kinda gave my medow where you’d find bambi vibes, so I decided yeah lets make him a deer. The outfit is inspired by those godforsaken AI generated drawings I found on Pinterest and thought were actual art. It is still my own design, just the whole hoodie over a dress thing wasn’t. I’m changing the outfit to make it look cooler soon anyway, I might go back to the greek god concept.
Then I had this idea a while ago that i could do something with, idk what but it involves sentient plants, because theyre fun as fuck to draw
On the left are a flytrapper and some dandilion inspired plants, and on the right is a drawing i did a while ago of the emotion Joy. I decided the concepts would go pretty well together and Joy might make an interesting side character. The flowers were some doodles done in my notebook, so they’re jusy concepts at the moment
I might add in some of my other emotion characters as creations Clover made, since some of them look like dolls, but I also have a bunch of little clown drawings that be little creations, I’m not sure.

I dunno yet. If anyone has any opinions on if Clovers creations (as a toy maker) should be the little emotion blobs or clown dolls, or both. The left is a drawing of shame, the right is one of many clowns I have drawn.
I have some sketches of Dawn, who I’m working on designing, the only concrete design I’ve landed on looks neat but he looks too human so all I have is this
For some reason I apparently can’t drawn men, they always end up looking feminine, but I can’t draw female anatomy so
And last but not least is some of my ideas for ash starting to assimilate to the dream world, I’m going to have her slowly start to resemble a corkscrew willow, cause I like trees.
This was a doodle i did before deciding on a willow instead of an average tree. I picked willows because theyre flexible and resilient. Also they’re cool.
I’m thinking like near or at the end of the story she’s gonna be lit on fire, that’s why I went with a tree. I did a little drawing prompt thing and it gave me smoke hair, and i figured (at five am, sleep deprived) yeah thats good for a charcoal creature. I’m probably gonna change her outfit with her new forms.
I haven’t drawn the charcoal creature Ash yet, because I dont know how the willow version looks yet, or how willow burns, so I’m doing my research!
Anyway thats it.
The otherworld is an infinite collection of islands, adrift in the ocean or sky.

The Mainland
The island that includes the cardboard house, Clover’s workshop, ect. This is where the story starts.
The Town Where Only I Am Missing
This island is cloaked in a thick fog, separating travellers from one another. It evolves and adapts based upon the inhabitants of the fog, preying on fears and frustrations to do something I haven’t figured out yet. (Fun fact: The entire island is based on an anime I haven’t seen, called Erased in the English translation, but originally named The town where I am missing.)
The Observatory
This is the island on which Day and Night reside. It includes both Day’s Library of Memories and Night’s observatory.

I’m had a really cool idea for an episode of my cartoon, this one would probably be filler but whatever, I structure this the same as I do a book.
So it’s called the Museum of Pain. It’s EXACTLY what it sounds like. A museum of people suffering, displayed as art for that masses. I feel like this would lean away from the dreamy, floaty style the otherworld usually is in (in my head) and more into horror art.
It would be a commentary on how we just watch, sit by idly as we see people in pain because we are disconnected from each other.
Sounds cool right? I made all of that up it’s actually my disdain for “modern art.”
You wanna know why?
THIS! FUCKING! THING! I hate it so much. So naturally I am dedicating time and energy towards an entire episode of a cartoon towards it.
I plan to make it look unlike he rest of the dream world, which is colourful and has darker shades. This will be a blank canvas, white walls (like an art gallery) with the “art” front and centre. I have full ideas on how the main cast reacts to this.
Ash and Camilla are very disturbed by this, in different ways. Ash tends more towards anger at this, while Camilla tends towards sadness. Smiley is more indifferent.
However I have no idea what Clover’s reaction to this will be, because he kinda does the same thing, with his creations. He kills and tortures them. So idk what he’s going to think :). It should be an interesting exploration of his character
Just remembered that my story is a loose fantasy story that doesn’t follow real world physics or logic to theoretically I can make a hot girl character and theoretically, I can put her in an outfit that is not suitable for setting sail to the high seas and nobody can stop me.
Twisted lore after quite some time!
Okay so I’ve been contemplating the relationship between Day and Night and I have my conclusion:
Fuck you. They are soulmates, bound by the stars for eternity. Not lovers, not friends, not not lovers, not not friends, they are everything and nothing and they love each other deeply
Tried drawing digitally on the tablet. Probably should shade a little more

So Clover was built by someone who I haven’t decided, who eventually abandoned him because he wasn’t functional, as his limbs wouldn’t stay on, and also he was sentient. He was adopted by Mrs. Penny and her husband Jeff.

Loreeee time! Character Lore: Clover.
It has been a hot minute since I gave a fictional character trauma, so I decided instead of socializing, Im gonna write lore for Clover. I’m so well adjusted:)
Anyways TWs because character lore always gets a little silly: CORPSES! Grave robbery and dismemberment, abandonment, ect. Nothing crazy.
So Clover was built by one of the possible antagonists of the story, another deity based on manmade concepts, Time. I am, as usual, an uncreative fuck, so Time is an inventor, like his son. Similar to Clover, he builds automatons, sentient creatures out of metal and wire. One day he decided venture in the art of grave robbery and build a flesh and blood creature, out of curiosity. He got halfway through building his creature, in the image of a small boy, but eventually abandoned the project. What he didn’t know is his creature had already gained consciousness and thought. Clover finished building himself, not very well, but finished. Time attempted to incinerate the project, failed by means I choose to leave vague. Anyways Clover got adopted by Mrs, Penny and her husband Jeff. (Random fact but neither of them have arms).
As of now, he has followed in his fathers footsteps by being a doll maker, originally making rag dolls, the moving to marionettes, (fun fact, his most current model has ball joints, based on Camilla.) semi sentient dolls made of wood and flesh, although he prefers to use fresh animals as opposed to reanimated corpse flesh like the kind he’s made of.
So yes, my most adorable character has blood on his hands.
So yeah, Clover is basically an abandoned WIP who finished himself. And he has grown since childhood and no, I don’t have answers as to how any of it works. Magic.
