Miraculous Ladybug Redesign - Tumblr Posts

I’m low key obsessed with lady noire for a couple of reasons. One of my favorite aspects of marinettes character is that people perceive her as this clumsy but intelligent , kind, and responsible person who is super sweet and while she is all of those things she’s also secretly an impulsive criminal and only alya and tikki really know this side. Girl has commit CRIMES, she’s stolen (book, batterie, multiple phones), broken and entered, falsified her identity (at least five times I can think of off the top of my head), and cheated. But as ladybug she has all this pressure to be perfect and capable and always have the solution, so I love that as lady noire she gets to go a little feral and be a bit of the menace that she truly is on the inside.

Aspik redesign. His original design was very much fine besides the bald cap though I do think it did give the impression that Adrien looked wrong because he wasn’t supposed to have the snake miraculous. Even though the somewhat ugly design made sense from a narrative perspective I wanted to try and make him look good. The main thing I wanted to keep in mind was that he had to look more like Adrien than chat noir. I ended up covering some of his hair with a cobra like hood but I left him some visible hair that is styled similar to Adrien’s. Other than that I just changed the markings on the suit to be more snakey. I’m pretty happy with this I think it is more visually appealing.

Rooster bold redesign. I have conflicting feelings about the canon design because it has a lot of really clever details that fit the rooster motif but it also looks goofy to me. I feel like it would look better in a 2D art style but idk. I think the boots are amazing so I definitely kept those with no changes. I personally think the rooster miraculous is the most powerful versatile one. Like the only limits are your own creativity I don’t know how any villain is going to feel like an actual threat when lady bug has the rooster, bee, and ox miraculous on her side so that will be interesting to see.

Young bunnix redesign. I changed very little since I think the original is pretty solid. A gave her skates with rabbit foot designs, lengthened the white parts on her legs and removed the pockets on the front replacing them with the dot design on her sides. Adult bunnix will have more changes to her design though the canon one is also pretty adorable.

Another one that I didn’t change much. The fox is one of the ones that’s hard to mess up much like the cat. It has a simple color palette and recognizable features. Rena’s canon design is one of my favorites in the show because it just works. I did change a couple things, for one I gave her some soles to her shoes and some little paw markings. Foxes are the only species in canidae that have retractable claws (as far as I can remember) so I of course had to give her claws and I’m actually offended that she was deprived of them in the first place. I also changed her jacket to not have the white going up it but to layer over the white. I changed her eye color to an amber gold color and my favorite change her mask I made a little more foxy. I also gave a subtle gradient to her suit to make it a bit more interesting.

(Also I forgot to add designs to her flute so just ignore that.)

Adult bunnix redesign. I don’t have a problem with the original design, I actually quite like it but I played around with it a bit for fun and I’m pretty happy with this as a redesign.

I changed my vesperia redesign because her hair was just not it. The braid doesn’t work for the comb and I wanted to give her something more interesting so I went with one of those spiky 90s buns and I think it’s really cute and unique. 🐝

This redesign took me many tries and I finally had to stop looking at the original design and just go fresh. I don’t think the original is necessarily bad I just hate the color palette like why is he pink with lime green hair for no reason. Neither of those colors are even on a peacock. I did kind of like his hood in theory but the animation style of this show has such huge heads that the hoods always look silly to me which is also why I’ve been struggling with carapace. My main inspiration for this was actually the original chat noir design from when he was Felix which is why I gave him longer hair, thigh high boots, and a little belt. I wanted his color palette to be lighter than mayura since she’s evil and he’s more morally grey. I also wanted the jacket to be a little over the top since he is very dramatic. I’m not completely happy with it but I do like it more than the original.

This one might be kinda hit or miss for a lot of people because I feel I might have made some controversial decisions. I had a few issues with claw noirs design. First the hair, it looks silly and I knew I wanted to change it so I just gave him a longer messier version of his normal hair. I played around with a ton of colors and dye jobs, for a while I had it blonde with green underneath but there was too much green concentrated in one area so I opted to not make it green anywhere. I almost made it black but that felt too far from normal chat so I didn’t go with that though it did look kinda cool . Classic chat noir has a warm golden blonde so I figured a stark platinum would be edgier but a bit closer to his original look. I didn’t like how clunky and awkward the jacket looked so I changed it to a torn up vest.

I wasn’t a big fan of the purple eyes so I made them green again and just made his pupils thinner and sharper. I also gave him some piercings on his cat ears, more silver studs, a lot of green accents, and some large claws to his boots.

I thought it might be fun to do some designs for what the new hawkmoth might look like before her design comes out. I made a couple variations since there’s so much that can be done with a butterfly motif. I particularly like the mask concepts I came up with.

I hope they do something very different from hawkmoth and actually utilize butterfly patterns, shapes, or motifs in the design process though I fear they will not. As a joke I made a version of what I expect she will look like based on past design choices.

My fear is that it will be a recolored version of her civilian outfit (like they did with miss hound) with colored skin for no reason, very little allusions to butterflies, and a lot of gray (like hawkmoth) . I do have some faith in the creators though since they have made really nice designs for some of the heroes and villains.

Viperion redesign! This one was incredibly hard for me because I like the og design but I wanted to add a bit more of Lukas personal style into it. He’s got an alternative kind of vibe so I wanted to give him a bit more edge. I gave him boots, fingerless gloves, a vest, and chains. I also made his eyes more like chat noirs in how they have no whites and are completely green. I had so many bad iterations but I’m happy with what I finally got to. 🐍

Purple tigress redesign. I actually love her original design but I added a little jacket, boots, fur accents, more detail to the mask to match the facial markings of a Tiger, and I made the hair around her face a bit fluffier since that’s where tigers have fluff around their faces.

I just realized that my inbox is full and I haven’t answered anyone so here I’ll answer some of the questions that people have asked me because I feel bad for ignoring all these lovely people.

-Yes I’m okay, thanks to everyone for asking. I just didn’t post in a while because I’m mad inconsistent and also got busy with other things. This redesign series is just something I do for fun so if I don’t have time or get involved with other interests I might not post for a while.

- after I finish the superheroes redesigns I’ll do some of their civilian forms. I really dislike some of their outfits and think they could be improved in some ways. I’m also open to doing some akumas though I would have to be very selective on which I would do since there are just far too many for me to tackle without losing interest. I might even make some original heroes based on the miraculous in the North American box.

- I probably won’t do any of the New York special characters but you never know I could change my mind. I probably will do ladydragon from the Shanghai special but I’m still trying to figure out what direction to go with her since she technically doesn’t have a miraculous and doesn’t need to follow some of the design aspects of miraculous holders.

- I don’t know if I’ll do shadow moth with the ladybug or black cat miraculous since in the show he only had those looks for a very short amount of time, and since combining either cat or ladybug with both peacock and butterfly all together would be incredibly challenging to make a cohesive look. Like there are a lot of conflicting color palettes and motifs and I can’t see any way you could add cat ears to him without it being silly. Like honestly how do you turn shadow moth into a cat boy and keep him menacing, it’s something to ponder.

- I might do some season six lb and chat designs but I’ll probably wait to see what the show comes up with first to base mine off of. I generally like to take inspiration from canon when I can and just try to elevate those designs.

- some characters I haven’t done simply because I like the canon designs too much for example chat noir, shady bug, ryuko, and queen bee are all peak to me. That being said there are others that I also thought were peak that I either made small changes to or tried other directions with that I really enjoyed (bunnix, Rena rouge, Viperion, and purple tigress) so I might go back and do that to the other ones that I genuinely think have good designs.

- if anyone wants to use my miraculous art for fics, or draw any of my designs with credit I give full permission.

- finally I have a few redesigns that I’ve finished and have ready to post. I’ve got polymouse, ladybugs guardian upgrade, and the ice power ups for both ladybug and chat noir. I’m currently working on carapace and plan to do the water and space power ups next. I’m not super inspired to do Pegasus, minatourox, and king monkey but I do plan to do them I just need to play around with some ideas.

Polymouse redesign. I don’t think there was anything particularly bad with the og design but I wanted to add a few details to spice her up a bit. I added some darker colors to the color scheme to add some contrast, gave her little boots, and turned her jacket into a little shoulder cape.

Guardian upgrade redesign. To be fair I thing the canon guardian design is far superior to the basic ladybug outfit because it has the black to break up all the red and just has more interest overall. I wanted to expand on that with my version. Whenever I make a ladybug design I like to really pull back on the spots because I think that fewer more and more intentional portions of red with spots are more striking and actually more reminiscent of an actual ladybug. I made this look more armored to be more beetle like, and replaced the pieces of hair sticking out with an additional set of ribbons in black. I like her a lot and think she works as an upgrade to my version of basic pre-guardian ladybug as well as a more interesting canon redesign.

Chat noir ice transformation redesign. To be honest chat noir is one of the few characters to have consistently good designs with a few notable exceptions (catsnake fusion). I guess it’s hard to mess up a simple black cat motif. For this redesign I kept most of it the same but added some black fur because I feel it would be a missed opportunity not to since he’s usually like a sleek black cat but fluffy ones exist as well. I also added a few more markings to his mask. Something fun I hadn’t noticed in the original design was how his hair had frosted tips and was lighter so I kept that because I thought I was cute with the snow theme. Also I don’t remember if they change their names when they use power ups, it would be silly if they do but also ice noir is a pretty cool name since it translates to black ice.

Ladybug ice power up redesign. I was going to wait a while to post this but I got impatient so here she is. While I liked chat noirs ice design lady bugs was so disappointing as most of her designs are. The best thing about it was the geometrical spots like snowflakes so I had to include that. I removed the little tiara because I hated it, and overall tried to add more detail to the costume. There are so many beautiful figure skater costumes to take inspiration from and the best they could do was a silly little crown smh. I gave her those figure skater leggings and a little sheer skirt that is meant to resemble wings. I also made a version with wings on the back but I think I like it better without. I gave her a bun to change up the hair a bit and an ombré on her legs so that the majority wouldn’t just be red with black spots. I think she’s very much improved and looks more like both a superhero and a figure skater.

Here are the ice power ups together. This is the first time I’ve placed my versions of ladybug and chat noir next to each other, I guess I should try to redesign chat noirs basic look but I love the canon design so much I don’t know what I’d change. Next I’ll probably do the water power ups and maybe the space ones. I’m still curious to know what the other unrevealed power ups do. The ones that are currently known both protect the users from certain environments/give them ways to navigate those environments but what other environments are there that would require a powerup? I guess one could make them immune to fire but other than that I have no clue.

Finally did carapace! I actually like most of his suit. The problem is in the shape of the hood, it just makes him look so goofy. The way the bottom of it turns up like that, just looks strange and it makes his head look even bigger. I changed the color palette a bit adding a bit more yellow toned greens and added a few more pattern details to the suit. I also gave him some headphones and replaced the silly goggles with a mask. If alyas eyesight can be fixed by the miraculous than so can his. I hope nino gets a bit more development. I think showing more of his dynamic with adrien would be cool to see as well as seeing his dynamic with marinette get fleshed out a bit.

I’ve finished the water power up redesigns but for some reason I still am not sure if I like them. I think it’s because I left the pink as a secondary color on ladybug. I’m wondering if changing it to blue would work better.
