Happy Amok Time Day, friendly reminder that Theodore Sturgeon, the writer of the episode, is credited with the first positive portrayal of homosexuality in science fiction with his short story The World Well Lost (1953), 14 years before Amok Time aired. Which could mean nothing.
i'm just going to go ahead and make this its own post. when kirk teases spock he is SO GENTLE. "why mister spock are you feeling emotion?" and he lets spock do the vulcan equivalent of giggling and kicking his feet and going "haha nooo silly i'm a VULCAN i don't do that!!" and kirk's like "oh my apologies mister spock of COURSE not" and then they make consensual loving eyecontact with one another while smiling. when BONES senses blood in the water (spock having an emotion) he will grab spock by the scruff of his fucking neck and shake until dead. like a dog with a squirrel.
Honestly I think Janeway has a more consistent moral reasoning strategy than both Kirk and Picard in that she acknowledges that no strict framework applies to all real world scenarios and therefore every situation must be handled on a case to case basis
Like usually murder is bad, but sometimes a real freak with absolutely dogshit vibes like Tuvix shows up and you just gotta hit that kill switch. And she was right for that

“Deadlock”
I finished these in record time. The first one I did (top right), I did entirely on my twelve hour flight. (Even got a compliment from a flight attendant. Lol.) I also got a good start on the second one (top left) on the same flight.
I’m actually very very pleased with how these turned out.

you can’t even tell these are edited because they just look like that anyway
I can’t watch star trek enterprise because 3 of those men are the same man
there is always some kind of crazy bullshit happening to my friend mr spock. spores. mating cycles. amoeba thing. blindness. painful mind melds. brain theft. babygirl has been thru it all
I love the idea of Spock being super queer, highly expressive and very emotional from a Vulcan view point. Like...
What humans see:

What Vulcans see:

I'm still not over Vulcan traditional wedding ceremony requiring this sexy tits out honour guard(?) in a gimp mask to be there. Like my dudes, what was the logical reason for his whole chest to be out like that

what is star trek even about

This is what it looks like when you look down an alleyway and see two stray cats duking it out over a half rotten rotisserie chicken
i like to think that T’Pring wanted Stonn to fight in the challenge but he was like I am NOT fighting Spock are you fucking crazy he’s the first Vulcan in five hundred years to have a KILL COUNT that is not a fight I can win. and then Spock “kills” Kirk right in front of them and Stonn goes I TOLD YOU SO
I'm starting a bit of an Enterprise rewatch (a bit randomly, I don't need to see some of these episodes), and it's remarkable to me how often the premise of the episode is that enterprise gets involved in some weird vulcan scheme that if they either hadn't done at all or had just told the endgame to the protagonists there would be much less conflict. I'm a big fan of this kind of episode, and it's one of the episode types I'm seeking out (also because these episodes have a 50% chance of being Shran episodes), but it struck me as interesting that I enjoy these episodes so much when all the stuff with vulcans in SNW is abhorrent to me, given that that they share a basic premise of 'those vulcans are causing problems again, if only they could be more human about it'. I guess Enterprise is slightly less openly bioessentialist about it? I can't tell.
from what i remember, enterprise always seemed far more willing to chalk the struggles between humans and vulcans up to culture instead of that just being the way vulcans are. which is a take i think is really interesting because, let’s face it, there is a lot to be said about vulcan paternalism and tendency to position themselves as benevolently superior. i too quite liked the vulcan episodes in enterprise and i think that’s a big part of why. plus if i’m being honest i think vulcans are a lot more interesting when they kind of suck
