Octavian’s belt situation

Okay! Uh, instead of working more on another gods foresaken map post (I swear-) instead of doing. That to myself more I found it much more interesting to think about Octavian’s plushie belt situation.

Octavian cannonically has a belt that goes over his toga/just over his clothing to store his dagger, the stuffies; etc.

I’d like to propose the: Octavian Belt item placement hc! Because that’s what it’s come to, anyways

The belt itself,

So; I have drawings (oh of course I have drawings) but I’d also like to explain. The belt itself is probably something like nemean lion hide leather, something that’d be expensive in the demigod world that stupid rich family of Octavian probably would get. It’s one of those like snap buckle(?) belts? The same type of buckle they hand you on like, amusement park rides (the ones that are like? Google is calling them side release buckles) but those. It’s for ease of like everything, so he can slip off his toga or slip off the belt quickly.

But anyways, here are my super duper cool accurate diagrams

Front is left; back is right. I drew these quickly so I apologize, but it gives the roughest of rough breakdowns. In my idea this is like a rough idea of what it could look like?

To his right would be three stuffed animals of anything really? There’s little loops (that I accidentally colored wrong-) that ribbon or rope or thread could be run through to tie the stuffed animals to the belt. I chose ribbon for the drawing because (I like bows) I just wanted to have some fun. To the back would be one of those like belt pouches (I have one and they’re so fun-) and it probably holds stuff like gum, those the alcohol wipes you use once you get a cut(?) and like emergency tiny spool of thread and some needles. Then we get to the sheath for his dagger and, I have no idea how that would be properly strapped in, but for the reasons of the concept sketch it’s simply just like; wrapped together. Finally is the hand sanitizer; my boy can’t do thinking about getting sick or dirty things in general, totally carries some really quick disinfecting stuff on him.

Okay! Okay- Octavian’s design and the ideas I have for that are always fun and may I present this concept;

Octavian totally feels like a person to wear two belts. I’d like to say that possibly Octavians stuffed animal belt is more closer to the scale of tool belt from belt-belt? It kinda vibes there while he’s wearing his toga or whatever. I’d like to introduce the idea that he possibly wears his cingulum. Or specifically an altered form of Cingulum.

Cingulum for reference are the ‘belts’(?) worn by Roman legionnaires; these guys,

Specifically a variant or his own like usual one without the Pensilla (those hanging parts) for ease and casual stuff, more similar to the left photo. The options I showed here have the little metal plates that set them aside from the usual Cingulum you can see that doesn’t. I believe that’s because of like, Centurion ranking stuff? I don’t quite know and my google is being super slow on website loading so I can’t really skim articles-

Okay anyway; proposing that this is Octavian’s main go to day to day belt. It’s his status, his pride as a Roman shown off even when he’s in relatively classic attire, it shows off that he is a Centuiron and is important (also you could attach the dagger sheath on here too for instances where Octavian wouldn’t have the plushie belt) while speaking of the plushy belt. That acting like an over-layer where he can hold and grab stuff easily while not crowding up his belt-belt

Then again that’s just a concept and my idea as to the belt thing.

(Also this probably is a bit random but I feel like the tool belt is 1) more loose than his belt-belt due to the fact it has to be over his toga that’s probably a more classical wool. Which I think it’s bulky? I don’t quite know but I feel safe enough to assume so. Along with that it probably just sits tight enough to stay on over said toga, so it doesn’t mess up how the said toga is placed *For reference it probably sits like mid stomach to bottom of the belly button in my head.*)

Okay I’ve been ranting but something something- Octavian has really interesting character design choices and it’s always super fun to try and decipher how they vibe.

Random bits of SoN re-imagined!!

I have no motivation to write out the plot overview draft for the CJ part of SoN re-imagining because I’ve already written several drafts on paper and converting them to digital always sucks but I still desperately want to talk about it and I’m stuck at home sick right now so this seems like the best time to rant about cool parts of it before I can put it into formal words,

Uhh, starting off Bryce Lawerence gets a character. Since HoO re-imagined expands the timeline by a few months overall he gets to have his moment to shine doing things like; manipulating Percy into decimating everyone in the war games with his powers even though it’s not the Roman way even though Dakota asked him to please not because he wants to try and win this genuinely (ties into hcs about how camp views power usage and stuff-) uh, he’s the one that stabs Gwen, he gets to have a family heirloom Pilum and stuff and like- yeah.

Octavian and Michael get to be shown as being actual close friends!! They pretty much get to be vibing together; silly friends, pals, friends, bros. Idk what I was getting at there, but uh, Octavian gets a character-

Dakota and Gwen also get a character. For plot purposes and characterization Gwen gets to be a daughter of Mithras; they get an extra chapter to actually be focus characters for a second and Gwen gets to like- say more than a few bits of Dialogue!

That’s all of the stuff that I really am excited about, uh. Yeah :3 this was a really weird post but like I said, I still need to type out the full Camp Jupiter part of the SoN re-write

I love when hoo fandom literally treats Nico as the only mentally ill character in the series,completely putting aside characters like Octavian.

they also tend to put aside Jason,whose trauma is absolutely ignored by MANY people in the fandom…

I know that many fans are literal children,but still this is also normalized by **some** adult fans I’ve seen on other social media.

like,many fans are for mental health until it’s Octavian and this tells us a lot of stuff about this fandom.

Gleaming the streets with your self deprecating nature shining through your chosen circle. Where he went so did you and vice versa.

Today had happened to be one of the few days the both of you were not plaguing the lives of everyone around you. A simple hangout day.

Deviating from typical augur duties the frail boy sat with you in your bedroom watching various sitcoms. Though there wasn’t much watching on your part as his avid need to chime in with his verbal opinions on the characters’ decisions made it impossible to hear anything else much less concentrate.

Several sighs later and the two of you switched to scrolling aimlessly on TikTok in search of something, anything entertaining to watch.

“…Packing my tumblr to go on a…hot girl walk?”

“Y’know this is the only time I actually wanna hear your thoughts on this.”

“I don’t have any thoughts to share with the likes of you. But, honestly is all of that really necessary?”

“EXACTLY.”

Only stopping with criticism to stalk the rest of their page to see what else they had to offer, before you sprung up an offer of your own.

“We should play Murder Mystery.”

“Can’t, I’m still banned, it ends tomorrow though.”

“Damn why can’t you not be banned for a day that I actually wanna play a game.”

You couldn’t even escape Octavian’s rash decisions ruining your plans in the digital world much less the real world. So with dwindling activities to participate in your brain for the first time in a while went into overdrive.

“Alright get up, we’re going out.”

“Why would I go out with you?”

“You wish you could get with me. But, I’m talking about actually going out, like outside.”

“Where?”

“If I tell you it won’t be as exciting. Now stop asking me questions.”

Grasping his dominant hand the both of you flew out the door. With your eyes dead set on the mysterious hangout location.

“A cafe? Really?”

“It’s a casual thing, consider it a date.”

“Why would I want to go on a date with you?”

“I love you too man. Anyway we seat ourselves here, so, sit down.”

Reluctantly your date to be sat down and shut up for a graceful minute, overlooking the menu. Keeping a longing stare above the menu.

“Y’know I’ve never realised how freaky your pearly blues are. They’re really piercing through my soul.”

“Quiet.”

“Look I love ‘em on you but it’s kinda crazy. Deadass.”

A silent scoff left his breath. Just as a waiter picked up on your situation and swung by.

“Good afternoon, what can I get for you boys?”

“Hello, I’ll have a cup of mint tea and—maybe a croissant or lemon cake?”

“I highly recommend the cakes here they’re absolutely amazing.”

“So he’ll have that lemon cake, and I’ll just have a coffee, cappuccino.”

“Good choices I’ll get that out in for you guys!”

“Thanks!”

With a short pastime the beverages and cake is bought out. Granted with a simple ‘enjoy’ the waiter swayed from your table.

“Everything looks so good!”

Clasping your hands together paired with closed eyes in thanks. Your short thanks ended abruptly as your eyes opened to see a spoonful of your cake missing.

“What the fuck.”

“Hm?”

“Don’t ’hm’ me you big back bitch. Order your own cake.”

“There is enough for the both of us, why do you think she gave us two spoons? Sometimes your intellect escapes you I swear.”

“No you ass. She gave ME two spoons. One for my cake and one for any sugar to put in my tea.”

“You don’t put sugar in your tea. So the spoon is for me.”

“Yeah? Well she wouldn’t know that. So the spoon is mine. If you disagree any further I will drop your skinny ass right here and now.”

“Crude and intimate. Just hurry and eat your food, so I can leave I have work to do.”

His harsh words would’ve come across in a more offensive way if he truly wanted to leave hastily. So you sat in a comforting silence enjoying your food, occasionally giving him some of your cake.

Octavian isn't that bad of a character. He was just really poorly written. If Rick gave him a sob story you guys would be falling at his knees.
