Just finished watching “Grace” and every time I watch it I am struck anew by how monumentally frustrating it is. HOW is it possible for Sam to so completely misinterpret her own subconscious feelings and perceptions?? She hallucinates her dad, who spends the entire conversation telling her to go after what will make her happy and she somehow thinks he means to forget about Jack and try to cram herself into some tiny domestic box that she could never, ever fit into??
And don’t even get me STARTED on the Jack hallucination. He literally shows up and calls her “Samantha” (y’know, just like every single guy who’s ever been in love with her does), tells her he’s a safe bet, that he’d never expect her to change her life for him, and that he will always be there for her no matter what. And this is all from her subconscious mind!! Like at some level she KNOWS he loves her more than anything and she still manages to twist it all up in her conscious mind to mean that she needs to let him go and move on.
And when she’s finally rescued and waking up in the SGC infirmary, Jack gives her crap about accidentally calling him by his first name, which I’m pretty sure is his knee-jerk overcompensation for how obviously close he was to losing his shit while she was missing. But it has the effect of confirming everything she’s already decided and WHY ARE THE TWO OF THEM SO EMOTIONALLY INCOMPETENT. I WILL NEVER STOP YELLING ABOUT THIS.
