oil pastel on tempura underpainting for class! I like how this turned out i was afraid it wasn’t gonna be neon enough
I remember a family vacation in Banff. The adults were moving hither and yon deciding what trails to hike or should we just go down Main Street and look at the garden?
And I sat at the kitchenette table with a stack of construction paper and a pack of oil pastel crayons. There was a purple mountain with a green river appearing before an orange sky.
“You look like you’re having fun,” my aunt commented, looking at the snow streaks appearing down the mountainside.
I invited her to sit and join me. Lots of paper!
“No, I’m not talented enough to make anything good.”
And I was confused. What did good have to do with it? This wasn’t a school project. No rules, no grades, no standards. This was fun.
Or maybe she felt silly drawing and didn’t want to hurt my feelings by saying so.
It’s currently 7 am, I’ve been up since 2, and I have three packs of pastel crayons, two chocolate bars, and a large stack of construction paper. Let’s have fun.

I tried to make another zine today. I got so close to finishing it, but messed up one drawing then scrapped it all... But I kept this one drawing. I still have the document with all the writing I did for it today. But as for making illustrations to go with the text, I think I was trying to achieve too much in one day. I pushed myself too hard. I’m going to have a shower and try to relax for the rest of the evening.

things will glow tomorrow

For the second day of horsetober I experimented with oil pastels. I like the contrast in colour between the manes and tail and the body and head of the horse.

Today I also made some extras, hope I can keep this up I quite like doing it.
