Honestly the saddest thing in the world is having a fanbase ruin a character for you. it takes a lot for a fanbase to ruin a character for me, too! But here we are :/
Bet u guys thought I was done overanalyzing a manga from the early 2000s huh. NOPE I also find Sakura's narrative as someone who views showing emotion as weakness, but only in her case. Time and time again she's prioritizing Naruto's feelings and trying to squash hers down because she is determined not to be that 13 year old that begged Naruto to bring Sasuke home. When Naruto broke down after seeing Sasuke again the first time, she did her best not to, even though she broke at him leaving too. When Naruto went 4 tails and hurt her, she lied so he'd feel no guilt about hurting her. And ofc, there's kage summit and her last-ditch attempt to stop what she viewed as naruto running himself into the ground. At that point, she lost one friend and was terrified of losing the other.
I know kishimoto is abysmal at writing women, but there's something so interesting about how consistently she's willing to be the bad guy to make sure naruto can still achieve his dreams to the detriment of her own mental health.

Naruto the Last movie is mostly pretty, sometimes 3d is a bit too visible, but it's... Look, Naruto is dense, but not dense enough to mistake love for ramen and food with actual romantic feelings. It feels like for whole movie everyone is trying their best to assure him he loves Hinata lol

Sasuke is a character that is intentionally and repeatedly failed by the adults in his life.
Kakashi was nowhere near mentally well enough to ACTUALLY help sasuke.
I don't even need to mention orochimaru. Textbook grooming. "He's not a pedophile!" Not saying he is, but he DID groom sasuke. That's just text. That is what he did because he didn't successfully groom Itachi.
There is something heartbreaking about sasuke acknowledging he is a child in this situation. He's a baby, despite still having the upper hand.
Itachi is such a complicated character who did irreversible harm to Sasuke in the name of guilt and atonement. Who wouldn't be hellbent on revenge when that was burned into his head during the worst moment of his life as a child, sitting on the street surrounded by dead family members.
Why wouldn't he be angry and unwell after being put under a genjutsu where he had to witness those deaths again and again for 3 days when he was 13 years old.
Why wouldn't he lose it when he finds out that the brother that abused him, the brother that loved him more than anything was a victim of the village he lived in. That the real perpetrators of the crime were still alive. Imagine being sixteen and grappling with the fact that your brother did unforgivable things to you and your family but part of that was because he was a manipulated 13 year old forced to make a horrible decision.
One of the MOST powerful moments for Sasuke to me was when Kakashi told him not to give into hate and he screams "bring back my mother and father. My clan." Because... he's right. He's allowed this anger. Danzo deserved to die. His family's eyes were transplanted onto the man's body in the most blatant form of post mortem disrespect. That's horrific.
Naruto and Kakashi have also gone thru horrific trauma. But naruto choosing kindness doesn't mean Sasuke is wrong for choosing anger. He should be angry. Naruto probably should've been angrier.

I don't think naruhina is all that forced in the canon material, I think ppl just tend to forget (ignore?) The pain arc (fucked if so, that's the best arc in shippuden) and imo there's a lot of fun similarities between nh and sns!
Like how naruto went 4 tails when orochimaru spoke ownership over sasuke. He was /so close/ to seeing his person again and for his abuser to say that, he was overcome with rage.
It's so similar to later on in the Pain arc where Pain very nearly kills Hinata after her confession to Naruto. It wasn't even just about the confession. She was going after someone she knew she couldn't win against to protect the person she cares the most about and to watch her fall broke naruto in a similar way. So much so that Kurama was almost completely resurrected. That's huge!

I think Hinata is such an interesting, relatable character. I think sometimes she can be too relatable, which can be a reason people don't like her. It's why I love her tho!
She had her voice taken from her at three years old due to almost being kidnapped. Her father resented her for the Hyuga Affair and the fact she wasn't able to keep up with his abuse in the form of training. Imagine being eleven/twelve years old as your father tells you that you are no longer his daughter. That you're a disgrace to your entire family for simply existing.
She saw naruto as a boy who was also going through so much misery but he had his voice still. He screamed and shouted and didn't let anyone talk to him like he was a failure.
Now, it's so hard to break away from the mindset of an abused kid. But her goal of wanting to be stronger, even just a little bit at a time is incredibly inspiring and also a realistic goal for a lot of people!
Maybe some people find that boring. I think it's cool tho!

Actually as someone who's drawn quite a few characters fat it's always interesting to me that no one complains when I make the guys thick. Never got a single comment when I would draw Roy Harper I just got people happy he's a bear in my art.
But whenever it's a girl. Be it comics or manga, I always get at least one comment like "but why 🤔" as if I'm expected to attach a dissertation on why insert character here is fat in my art lmao

Being an sns fan/artist can sometimes bum me out bc I see these takes in the tag instead of positive discussions. :( no hate to you op! It's just a little discouraging when us sns fans try to completely ignore the women in Naruto's life. It doesn't feel like we're engaging with the actual media
For instance, Hinata has had a lot of moments with Naruto that show how deeply /he/ cares about her, be it romantic or not! I think they're important friends too :)
There's the moment where he scoops up her blood and makes a vow to beat neji in her honor during the chunin exams. A little bit after that there's the proud failure convo! It's very sweet, and Naruto ends it with saying "I'm starting to like folks like you!"
Then in shippuden ofc we get the Pain arc, where Hinata's sacrifice causes naruto to almost completely unleash Kurama (he doesn't remember this exchange just like he didn't remember going four tails when Orochimaru got gross about sasuke.)
Then there's that GREAT scene during the 4th war. I'll let the page speak for itself!
Ofc I can talk about the MANY scenes with Sasuke and naruto, they do love each other more than anyone. But I always feel like it's disingenuous to say he felt /nothing/ for her or that he married her out of pity when there's so many little moments of her giving him motivation, resolve, and in the Pain arcs case, fury.
another reason the canon pairings arent believable is that it is way too difficult for me to believe that naruto loves his wife more than sasuke
like just judging by the canon interactions, a bond that should be very obvious to me simply isnt
you cant just say “oh yeah he loves hinata more than anyone because she is the love of his life” but have him promise to die by sasukes side and say shit like “when you hurt, I hurt”
