Finally, someone said it. Also, blaming only Enji for what Rei did to Shouto is unfair. I’ve seen stories of mothers losing it because of mental illness exacerbated by father’s abuse and killing the kids, and guess what? They still go to prison or get locked up in a mental facility! At the end of the day, you hurt your child, and you need to be isolated so you don’t do it again. The way Enji spoke about “damaging his masterpiece” was shitty, but ultimately, he did protect his children from being randomly attacked by their own mother, and she needed the treatment.
Also, the thing that never gets brought up is, Enji lost his dad BEFORE he went to UA, so when he was middle school age at most. There’s never a mention of a mother, so she may not have been in the picture. Rei had two parents when they married. Enji was 22, no parent was present with him during marriage negotiations, so he may have had no mother or any other parental figure. Did he even know what a normal family looked like, or how to be a parent? Did he have anyone at all to guide him? Or was he just a young adult with a dangerous job, metal illness and trauma, too much money, and early fame who had no idea what he was doing?
Haven’t read Mha in a long time so correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think Dabi was the victim here. Of all his siblings, Dabi got special treatment and there was no reason for him to have a grudge against them. Sure, he could harbor hatred in general for having a self destructive quirk but the dislike for his family? It simply doesn’t make sense.
And while we’re on the subject of the Todoroki family, Endeavor is an abuser but he did not rape Rei. They had an ARRANGED marriage, not a forced marriage. There’s been zero evidence to suggest it was a forced marriage. We only know Rei started having mental problems after Endeavor’s abuse, not because of the marriage.
Another problem I bring up because I saw this recently is how Dabi charged at Shoto when he was young. While it was clear they needed to take him to a professional, I would say this is most likely a cultural thing. It’s taboo to speak of mental health issues in modern day Japan and most other places in the world. I think that’s the reason why Endeavor and Rei didn’t give their son other help before he turned out like he did.
Overall, I think Endeavor’s reconciliation arc was good, coming from an ‘abused’ child. He didn’t forced himself on it, simply giving his apologies and opening his heart to them again. He saw the destruction that happened and asked for their forgiveness. A lot of people have a hard time separating his character from their own abusers which results in them disliking him but I personally love it. I WISH something like that happened to me and I’m frankly shocked that a lot of people wish it didn’t happen. The Todoroki family deserves closure and the ability to CHOOSE what they want to happen. Whether they want their father in their life or don’t.

I also like how Dabi thought everything stayed the same since he was sixteen. Shouto is still just Enji’s pet project with no will of his own, Enji is still a raging maniac only caring about his success, the rest of the fam is just putting up with this. Meanwhile Enji had a whole change of character, he and Shouto went through a renegotiation of their roles in their relationship, Shouto stood up for himself by refusing to communicate with Enji until he was respected, Shouto trained and developed his own moves (unlike Touya who just copied Enji’s). Shouto has his own life and goals that have little to do with Enji. Rei got out of the hospital and was able to motivate her husband and son to fight Touya. Natsuo recognized Touya’s past suffering, he’s no longer that annoyed kid who just wants to sleep. Fuyumi was never “just a girl who doesn’t understand.” For all his spying on his family, Touya saw only what he wanted to see. He has no idea who any of them are.
Rei: I think my husband is gay.
Best Jeanist: Oh my, that’s a twist! But I’m gonna need some proof.
Rei: See, watch. Enji? Jeanist and I are gonna shop at (wink wink) the lingerie store.
Endeavor: Have fun. Make sure to choose cotton, synthetics are bad for you.
Rei: Enji, I’m gonna go on a date with All Might.
Endeavor: Cool, bring me some takeout.
Rei: Enji do you wanna have sex??

ok lets be honest we should blame both parents when it comes to the todoroki shit. Like you're gonna sit here and tell me Rei did nothing to help her son with his mental state or even stop him from training also she had more kids even tho she knew what endeavor wanted to do with said kids. Like at least have two and call it a day it doesn't even seem like endeavor pressured her in a way either maybe like slightly but not like "if you don't give me a baby I'mma beat your ass". She did ask for another kid after Toya but it seemed more like i feel bad let's try for another but she could've just stopped there but instead she had 2 more. I'm not victim blaming I'm just saying both parents should be responsible for their actions

Why are people saying he isn't that bad just because he told Toya to stop hurting himself like sure thumbs up he cares about his son. But let's be honest hear like totally fr... would endeavor do that if Toya was a successful offspring according to endeavor. i heavily doubt it if it wasn't for Rei having a mental break down endeavor would've trained todoroki non stop even if it would hurt his body. By the point natsu was born endeavor most likely gave up on the idea but like kinda still wanted it if you catch what I'm trying to say. He wasn't that demanding during that time until todoroki popped out ( why was he so ugly like tf).
Just because endeavor tried to stop toya from hurting himself automatically makes him a great person.
(Little side note but i don't think hori is trying to "redeem" yk endeavors character is basically a man who messed up and did horrible things because he was blinded by his jealousy and wanting to be number one and once he opened his eyes to what he had done in the past he realized oh shit i fucked up big time. I don't think he wants full forgiveness just like a little. Like if you did something fucked up or mean to your sibling or friend and you thought it was ok in the past you usually wanna say sorry for that past action. i don't think endeavor will be fully forgiven and y'all need to chill with the endeavor hate especially making his name a slur lmao)

I don't know who in their right mind agreed that only Endeavor was at fault because his case was much more heavy but oh boy. You Rei did seem mental ok ig like compared to the boil shit she doesn't look like she's gonna snap at any minute she looks more depressed and sad than anything and regretful like "oh my God why did i marry this dude homie is kinda weird" yk. They both didn't really do jack shit to help Toya like if you or I see my son obsessively hurting himself and showing signs of oh this kid kinda sus like we're talking really sus shit and giving me crazy looks. Like what happened after Toya tried to murder his mom and little brother. I wouldn't be surprised if they did nothing tbh. Like at least take him to a doctor or something or talk to him yk or fucking therapy. Like at least do something not just sitting around popping out more kids or almost letting them kill you. In conclusion both parents are at fault and you shouldn't really blame EVERYTHING on Endeavor. Again I'm not victim blaming or anything like that I'm just saying it takes two to make a baby and do something about said baby.
