Running On Air - Tumblr Posts

it’s supposed to be an illustration for “Running On Air”, the most beautiful drarry fic I’ve ever read
Book cover fanart for Running on Air by @tinyhistory

I actually worked through a design brief and several mockups and ideas before settling on this one.
I think i am going to try some more of my ideas in the future but I was happy with how this turned out so i thought I’d share!
Making covers for fics instead of working…

Running On Air
Draco Malfoy has been missing for three years. Harry is assigned the cold case and finds himself slowly falling in love with the memories he collects.

Am I super late to the party? Yes. Do I care? No. Could I decide on the cover? No. So you get two. Amazing fic - absolutely gobbled it up.
This is also the fic that single-handedly brought me back to the fandom after more than a decade of being away
I just read a drarry ff that was sooo good we should legally stop pretending the epilogue is real.
It's called Running on air. You're welcome.
What songs did you listen to while writing ROA?
Thanks for waiting so long for a reply. I typed out a huge playlist and then tumblr ate the post and I got very angry and had to leave it alone for a bit.
I was listening to The Jezabels’ album Prisoner on repeat at the time, and a healthy dose of their EP Cherry Pie too. If I could pick just five songs which really wrote Running on Air for me, they would all be from The Jezabels: Long Highway, Endless Summer, Deep Wide Ocean, City Girl, and Catch Me.
I got my old laptop up and running again so I could check my old playlists, and this one is from around the time I was writing Running on Air:
Song — Artist
Ages, Places — Wildlife Control
All I Know — Washed Out
All Eyes On You — St Lucia
An Ending (Ascent) — Brian Eno

Marathon (In Roses) — Gem Club

Note: I’ve done a few playlists for RoA and I know my music taste is all over the place. Most people skip the electro-rock and drum-and-bass tracks I add — I guess people don’t associate synth-pop and electro-rock with Running on Air. But if you give these songs a go, you’ll see a lot of inspiration in the lyrics. ‘Honey’ has the lyric, “We can’t accept what we do not get to choose.” And EDM song Embrace begins with, “On a night like tonight, you saved my life.” Experimental electronica song Daylight Hours has amazing lyrics: “This is the third trip in the back of your car, filled with memories flashing by like liquid sky, like electric stars that define everything we are…I’m trying too hard, I’ve gone too far, now everything keeps shifting in and out of time.” Lots of RoA inspiration!
Hi, this is very random but I'm actually writing a dissertation on Harry Potter Fanfiction and I'm looking for the 'big' fics, i.e. fics that lots of people in the fandom read - the most popular/famous ones that might even have their own sub-fandom (All The Young Dudes for example). Do you know of any Drarry ones like this? Thanks in advance!
Hey! I hope I'm not WAY too late on this — I know it's been sitting in my inbox for a while.
Here's a few that came to mind:
Right Hand Red by lq_traintracks (lumosed_quill)
Lumos by birdsofshore
Stop All the Clocks (This Is the Last Time I’m Leaving Without You) by firethesound
Hermione Granger's Hogwarts Crammer for Delinquents on the Run by waspabi
Running on Air by eleventy7
Then I haven't actually read these, but they might work as well:
Foundations!verse by Saras_Girl
Turn by Saras_Girl
Such Great Heights by aideomai
Best of luck with your dissertation!

""Storm's coming."...
...He waits for an acerbic remark from Draco — really, Potter? How observant of you — but Draco is silent.
"I like storms,"..."

I like Drarry and Dramoine, but I'm probably just a casual shipper.
But then my friend convinced me to read a Drarry fanfic, and, oh my gosh, I can't stop thinking about the fic 👁👄👁
Reading fanfiction on ao3 is like being addicted to drugs.
The first time you read one you experience this immense amount of euphoria and satisfaction (because of a well-done story or your ship having a solid dynamic etc.)
The high lasts for quite some time until you want way more of that special feeling so you read more and more until eventually nothing can satisfy you anymore.
But instead of trying to quit, we embrace the madness and let it takes us wherever it wants.
And I think that's beautiful.

"Going away is easy, coming home is hard."

"Maybe home isn't a place, maybe it's a person."

"The train is nearly at the crossing now.
Now or never...
He lifts Draco's hand, bringing his wrist higher, and kisses the soft skin just beneath the inky tail of the Dark Mark.
The train rushes through."
Harry steps closer to the field, his shoes crunching over gravel before he steps onto soft grass.
"These fields," he repeats, slowly reaching out and brushing a hand over the tall canola flowers. Still green and young, they haven't yet reached the brightness of Cornwall's canola fields. Harry stares intensely across the field, his eyes narrowed with focus. As though, if he looks hard enough, he might see the ghost of a young Draco racing between the canola plants.
Harry grins and takes a step forward.

"Where are you going?" Draco asks, sounding slightly startled.

"Away from you," Harry says, and takes off.

It's one thing he and Draco have in common: a lonely childhood. The only time Harry ever got close to playing games like tag was when he found himself running for his life as a jeering Dudley waddled after him, or Aunt Marge's bulldogs snapped at his heels. It's a very different experience to be racing through a field, the night sky clear and crisp above him, listening to the sound of light footsteps behind him. Draco's voice cuts across the field.
"You're insane, Potter! Are you seriously playing games — "
"We're playing games, you mean," he calls over his shoulder. "You're chasing me, after all."
"I am not chasing you! Get back here!"
"Make me!" Harry laughs and picks up speed; behind him, the footsteps quicken. Harry takes a sharp left, feeling the thin stalks of the canola plants feather through his fingers. He zig-zags his way across the field, running faster and faster until all he can hear is the blood thumping in his ears, the effort of breathing in his throat, and then he pauses. He can't hear footsteps behind him anymore.

Harry turns around. The field seems empty, the canola plants swaying gently in the night air. He frowns, his brow creasing, and drops his hands to his side, his fingers slowly uncurling. The silent night gives nothing away; not the slightest footstep nor the faintest draw of breath. Harry takes a step backwards.
Someone grabs him; he shouts out and nearly jumps out of his skin. Behind him, Draco starts laughing, his arms still around Harry.
"You shrieked," Draco manages between fits of laughter, his voice unnervingly close to Harry's ear. Harry reddens.
"I did not! I — I shouted, that's all. You startled me," he adds accusingly.
"You shrieked, admit it. For a moment, I thought I'd grabbed Astoria."

"Oh, very funny! Hey — where are you going?" Harry asks as Draco drops his arms and turns, poised to flee.
"Catch me." And Draco's bolting away, quick as a fox, racing through the field again.
Harry starts running.

Illustration based on this specific scene from running on air by @tinyhistory (eleventy7)
This is part 1 of the illustration I drew for an edit
The edit :
If you had to pick, what is that one fic you could read forever in a loop and enjoy it as if it was the first time?
you know the feeling while reading running on air? i want to experience same kind of vibes if you have recs for me!
Hi anon! Hmm that’s quite subjective I think, everyone experiences fic differently and RoA has a very distinct vibe/atmosphere. To be honest idk if I can rec anything similar. But I’m curious to hear others’ thoughts on this and see if they can share any recs!
Part 2 of my running on air illustration . Not an actual scene in the fic but more like a dreamlike sequence of conversations said during the story tied as one to create one magical scene set in a canola field under the meteor shower. Basically a portrayal of Harry’s dream and the place where Draco got lost
“Where are you?”

“We could go anywhere”

“Anywhere?”

“Anywhere”

“Let’s go where you are, where are you? If this is real, tell me!”

“Do you remember when we were eleven?”

“Let’s go back to that”

“Do you think..”

“We could’ve ever been friends?”
