Experiments on muons are great to read about from an enthusiast's POV because you don't have do deal with the "ah shit now my research has to be adjusted" that people who work in quantum physics/mechanics do, but you also understand what's going on so you're not reading news articles written by reporters going "Quantum Mechanics BROKEN? Standard Model is WRONG?!? Scientists are rewriting theories AS YOU READ THIS because of THIS new discovery"

All due respect to reporters; it's just that 90% of the highly read articles on anything relating to the standard model pretend like physicists knew what was going on in the first place when they pointedly Did Not and Never Pretended To

So enthusiasts get their little chuckle of the day scrolling around on Google looking at the Clickable Science Headlines and fielding questions from concerned/confused friends and family while also attempting to read the periodical itself and ending up with a very long list of unfamilar vocab and symbols

I love it when large media outlets find really solid pieces of literature and hyperlink it within the first few paragraphs

Association of sleep duration in middle and old age with incidence of dementia
Nature Communications
Sleep dysregulation has been linked to dementia, but it is unknown whether sleep duration earlier in life is associated with dementia risk.

An observational study using data from nearly 8k people that checks if sleep duration has a significant influence in dementia development over the course of 25 years?! Sign me up; thank goodness this is Open Access

btw, there's more stats jargon than anything, and most of it is pretty much high school level. I recommend giving this a read! It's rather short, too, so you don't have to dedicate more than half an hour, max

Also it may or may not make me more motivated to go to sleep before 11 so thank god for that

not necessarily! try out The Conversation, they put scientists and journalists together to write articles. here's a bit from their About page:

The Conversation is a unique collaboration between academics and journalists that in a decade has become the world’s leading publisher of research-based news and analysis. Everything you read on these pages is created by academics and journalists working together, supported by a team of digital technology experts. Our professional editors work with academics to turn knowledge and insights into easy-to-read articles, and make them accessible to general readers. All our work is free to read and free to republish under Creative Commons. We do this as a not-for-profit group guided by a clear purpose: to provide access to high-quality explanatory journalism that makes for better decision making.

they have homepages for Global news, Africa, Australia, Brasil, Canada, Canada (en français), España, France, Indonesia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States

they have English, Español, Français, bahasa Indonesia, Português, and Cymraeg

I've been reading articles from them for a while and I really enjoy it. If you're looking for more journalism in Science that's specifically in English, check out Quanta magazine! they're another great resource that I've posted about before. they post less frequently, though, and their articles aren't under Creative Commons. they describe themselves as "An editorially independent publication supported by the Simons Foundation." so do with that what you will

Kinda sad to learn that there aren't really any 'Popular Science' news sources that has actual scientists writing the article--more specifically scientists writing popular science articles about their paper.
