Sanemi's decision to accompany his mom to hell is not based on a belief that he deserves to be there; he makes this choice for the sake of his mother and Genya. If his mom is going to hell, he believes he should accompany her, and if going to heaven early isn't what Genya wants, he won't go. Sanemi never considers what he himself deserves; his focus is always on what others deserve. His mother and siblings deserve someone reliable, unlike their father, so he works hard for them. Masachika doesn't deserve sadness, so he does his best for him as well. Genya deserves a happy domestic life, so Sanemi endures a hellish lifestyle and fights to create a world where that's possible. Sanemi consistently de-centers himself and lives for other people.
I love how Sanemi tried so hard to make his face devoid of any emotion when he was telling our baby Genya to basically kick rocks.
But when Genya looks down due to sadness, his expression changes to one of panic like 'shit! what do I do now?', 'he's brought out the puppy eyes! and he's pouting!', 'shit! what else can I say?!'
Do i:
a.) give baby bro a hug and tell him I love him and that I don't want him to get hurt?
b.) drop the tough guy act and admit that I was hurt by his words but that I understand and have forgiven him?
c.) drive that emotional knife further because fuck all that emotional sincerity bullshit?
