Sprite Edits - Tumblr Posts

Did some quick Sumi edits 'cause I'm still salty about how cowardly Atlus was with her and her arc. Especially having her revert back to her "Kasumi" style at the end of the game.

You could say this is a somewhat remake of an old ponytail edit I did a while back!

I know Strikers takes place about a year after P5 but... The designers definitely missed some opportunities with the PTs' character designs. That and Yusuke growing his hair out is one of my favorite HCs!

This has got to be the third remake of Aoi here but here she is! I felt like the 2nd attempt felt too conservative and didn't really fit to how I HC Aoi's personality in hindsight so gave her a haircut and be dressed in more loose and brighter clothing. Also, recognize the hair clip? New angsty HC there for poor Akane...

Here's my interpretation of Zenkichi's mother as she would appear in "Prison of Grief." Both normal and Cognition forms! More info under the cut! (tw: talks of various forms of abuse (namely child abuse and spousal/domestic abuse), mentions of victim blaming too)
Maki Hasegawa was a very cold and abusive woman to both her son and even her husband, Junichi. She controlled every aspect of Zenkichi's life and decisions. What he should look like (to the point of forcibly cutting his hair when he kept growing it out), who he interacts with, relationships, everything. She planned out his whole life to the letter. Why though? Because she didn't want to have him to begin with and she made sure he knew that whenever she got mad at him. That and having him took away any youth she had, prompting her to often dress up and go out every night even when Zenkichi would ask questions. Her husband could barely do anything and simply shuts down whenever Zenkichi gets scolded. He and Zenkichi did try to report her but were dismissed. They were ignored because no one would believe that the two were being abused, let alone by a woman and that they should just endure it. Zenkichi especially since he's still growing so therefore, he might have deserved it. She also NEVER approved of Aoi when Zenkichi met her as a child, thinking of her and her family as "bad influences" since meeting her provided the catalyst to him becoming more independent and regaining his own life. This whole experience became part of why Zenkichi decided to take up a career in law enforcement, so that no one would suffer the way he did. Especially because of societal stigmas. Junichi does eventually get him out and gain primary custody of him, but it still ended up going south for them before Zenkichi decided to cut BOTH of them out of his life.

Finally did an edit of how me and Creepy would imagine Zenkichi's father who will be featured in the next Prison of Grief chapter! I tried to make his normal self's eye color match the ones on Zenkichi's sprite. More under the cut!
(tw: talks of various forms of abuse (namely child abuse and spousal/domestic abuse), mentions of victim blaming too along with neglect) Compared to Maki, who was more wrathful in nature, Junichi Hasegawa is more regretful in nature. Regrets on how different things could have been had he noticed or acted sooner, had he not been so cold and distant. Needless to say, he was basically Zenkichi in present day with a lovely dose of history repeating itself which was the LAST THING Zenkichi wanted. Unlike Maki, he wanted to keep Zenkichi. He had hopes that maybe the situation would improve. But it didn't, in fact, it got worse. As a result, despite legitimately caring about him... He ended up also resenting the kid, treating him coldly at times. In his case, it's because he felt like said kid being born worsened the abuse. He had tried to report his wife, but it all fell on deaf ears. He's also not home often which unwittingly gave Maki free range to further torment Zenkichi, especially since he resembled Junichi a lot. It did come to a head when he finally puts his foot down and had Zenkichi be put under his care after some difficulty but there are still scars no matter what. He disapproves of Zenkichi wanting to take up a law enforcement career. He feels like the young man is setting himself up for disappointment (which to be fair DOES happen) due to being exposed to so much of the darkest parts of society and human nature. He ends up doing something in a misguided attempt to stop him from potentially making a poor decision (and to keep him safe in a way), which leads to a confrontation and then a full-blown argument. Junichi ends up saying something that ended up hurting Zenkichi badly (like with him and Akane). Zenkichi finally snaps at that and after storming off to cool down, Junichi is left with more regret but rationalizing that he's doing all this for his child's own good. Zenkichi severs ties with him along with his mother before he leaves for good. As you can see, it's pretty obvious where Zenkichi gets his self-loathing from. He just didn't expect to unwittingly act like the very people he hated as an adult and that fact tore him up inside even more.

I proposed short haired Ichinose on my Twitter so...
Also, she's a lesbian btw! I don't make the rules here!

Did a remake of my Older!Akane edit! My bf suggested more pastel or just a soft kind of goth for her and I love this one! Her hair I was stumped on a solid blue or keep it red but then I accidentally fiddled with layers and got this and decided on combining them instead. My bf called it the "Bisexual Ombre" and the purple can honestly be good symbolism for her mended relationship with Zenkichi since he had a blue motif while hers was red. Her necklace would be that Fenrir necklace pictured here:

She's also Bisexual and Aromantic! ^_^

I... I finally did it!! Today, I offer a Haru with bangs! Tomorrow... Who knows? And yes, I used her Royal sprite here!

And here's a couple of Strikers ones!!

I'm so happy with how they came out!!! ^_^

Ok! I was on a roll with the Haru edit so why not a quick Akane edit? She just came out so adorable!

This is the FINAL bangs edit, ok? Zenkichi's sprites are STILL a pain in the ass to do. But yeah, I feel like he'd be a little messier or have loose strands at least knowing how little he takes care of himself. But hey, the holy trinity with him, Akane, and Haru are complete!! ^_^

God damn it, I did this a couple days ago and kept forgetting to post it! But anyways, long haired Yusuke inspired by his concept art (what could have been...)! But anyways, I obviously had too much fun with his different outfits!
Here's the concept art:

So I'm planning out a redesign/edit series for the P5 Strikers Sprites b/c while I get the design team probably wanting to save time, I wished there was at least a slight change from the (sort of) one year time gap so here's Futaba! @creepymarsh suggested a messy bun for her and I gave her light makeup (lipstick mostly, probably from Ann) inspired by her anime design! I couldn't squeeze in the cap unfortunately though but oh well!

Haru redesign is finally done after some difficulty!
Notes:
She grows out her hair as time went on and grows in bangs too.
She developed freckles due to her being outside more often (gardening or chopping wood).
The necklace is open to interpretation but I like to think it's a locket.
Said necklace is part of how Mariko recognizes her in this case.
The freckles are a way of showing that she can still act like a kid despite being a college student since they can be associated with youth.

Hey-o! Did remakes of an old series of post-Strikers Akane Sprite edits! These would probably take place about a few or couple months at best there. From top to bottom: Uniform, PJs (PTs T-Shirt), Casual w/o Headphones, Casual with Headphones, Winter, and Yukata.
I feel like she would end up getting the same vision problems as her father later down the line (partially speaking from my own experiences) and having to get glasses. She would complain at first obviously but gets used to it.
She would inherit the freckles from Aoi and would not part with that hairclip (I HC that it belonged to Aoi and it fell off when she got killed).
She would grow out her hair like her father.
I tried to add more color variety to her wardrobe. You can interpret the blues representing Zenkichi and the reds representing herself.
I would say she's generally more tomboyish in nature and whenever Zenkichi gets scolded by any adults who disapproved of it, he would just snark at them and just encourage her.
She still streams but does some boxing with her father as another hobby/outlet (with the HC that Zenkichi taught her and Aoi self-defense). Either that or fencing. Haven't decided yet.

Makoto's finally done guys! Now all that's left is Ann, Ryuji, and Yusuke! Made her look more punk/biker-like and incorporated stuff from Shadow Sae! The original idea was a short boyish cut ("lesbian cut") but it wasn't working out so I went with a ponytail instead since it is often associated with tomboy characters (Makoto was an attempt but failed imo). It actually looks better tbh.
...Also, I am NOT editing her Sprite again. The weird angle is just so damn hard to work around so no more!

Ann... I love you but your pigtails make your Sprites so hard to edit but I'm finished! Look at my confident queen!
(Also saw Ann hate again so perfect timing!!!)

Soo... I did a touch-up/remake because I felt like she was missing something. So, some tattoos inspired by her 3rd tier after looking through the concept art for Royal! And yes, the larger one pictured on said Concept Art is on her back! A beautiful rose has thorns indeed~! ^_^🌹

Much better!!

In light of my redesign of Sumi's PT outfit, I decided to alter my sprite edit of her! Now with a sorta modified Shujin uniform post game! Most of the changes were her bangs but I like it a little better!
I will still be salty about how cowardly Atlus was with her and her arc. Especially having her revert back to her “Kasumi” style at the end of the game. And that's despite my feelings about her here.

At long last I can unveil it! Behold, my own take on an AU where Kasumi survives the accident! The above sprites are the twins at the beginning while the bottom two are them post game! More info under the cut!
Ok so it's basically this: Kasumi survives being hit by a car saving Sumire... But she gets physically injured, namely her legs like with Ryuji. As a result, she ends up being unable to compete anymore. If not forever, their dream gets dashed regardless. Now she can still walk a bit, especially after doing physical therapy, but performing causes her so much physical pain that she ends up stopping. She still supports Sumire on the sidelines though. Now Sumire... Oh god Sumire... This WORSENS her mental state and self-loathing, and Kasumi is none the wiser like in canon. Though she does start to notice within the main story but due to the poor communication, she doesn't know or understand why. She ends up coming to the wrong conclusions and doubles down on helping Sumire with everyday tasks while Sumire's hidden resentment grows. They do get therapy from Maruki but it just makes things more complicated. Now Kasumi's arc would be this: Her understanding that Sumire will want to be independent from her and stand on her own feet eventually and that she's coddling her to the point of unintentionally being controlling as opposed to helping and motivating her. That and it would deconstruct her overall views and cheerful personality along with being viewed as "perfect." She shouldn't have to be, and she needed to be more self-aware of how her behavior and actions can affect others. Especially her twin.
Sumire's arc would be the same except she's more withdrawn throughout and, again, her hidden resentment grows until it comes to a head in 3rd semester. Both girls do awaken to Personas but even so... Kasumi still tries to help her sister and it starts to frustrate her. They do join early this time and despite Sumire improving, Kasumi still manages to come out on top. And that's despite her legs still not being in good shape.
Sumire's thoughts start to darken, and once 3rd semester rolls around, Maruki offers them a chance to return to his reality. Kasumi refuses... But Sumire doesn't. Kasumi is shocked and asks her why as she leaves the small group. She then spells it out to her. How perfect she is, how she always felt inferior to her and that day she acted condescending to her before the accident, everything. What she says horrifies Kasumi even more: "Dr. Maruki... I wish to BE Kasumi." Now even he's stunned by it but either way, he lets her come with him. Now everyone views Kasumi as her own sister until the boss fight.
Further notes:
As a subtle bit of foreshadowing, Sumire would slowly start taking on Kasumi's appearance, mannerisms, and copying her moves like in canon. This would still put both sisters' scholarship at risk though as a result.
Sumire would still have the mentality that she should BE Kasumi or just die. And naturally, the slow change in looks and demeanor would look suspicious to Joker and later Kasumi herself (she thought of it as just cute at first but then it starts to get eerie). The other students wouldn't treat her well either. The rumors would be nastier while Kasumi gets praise and sympathy. And because of the possibility that the cognitive filter Maruki would put on her would be absent in this AU, Sumire would notice.
But as opposed to reflecting, she doubles down and lets her thoughts fester. Both grief and selfishness would get bigger and bigger until 3rd semester. She would probably still be a red herring too. She's not Sumire... She's not weak or fake. She's Kasumi and Kasumi is Sumire.
Post boss fight would have her rejoin and after her true awakening, she cuts her hair as a sign of accepting herself and not being a copy of her sister anymore. She's done and she's PISSED. Same with Kasumi and they work in sync with each other perfectly in battle. Especially since Sumire is using her OWN moves and abilities. She feels free now and Kasumi is free from living up to being perfect and realizes that coddling her sister won't help her grow. They both become self-aware and communicate more. And they're ready to take on the world.
Also, after Sumi's true awakening, Kasumi gives her the red ribbon she always wears which lets her hair down in the process and remains that style afterwards. It's her way of apologizing and fully reconciling along with making sure Sumi knows that she will always be there once she competes and still keep their promise. Even if she's not fully around.
It'll be ambiguous onto whether Kasumi fully regains her legs and they stop hurting.
As for Kasumi's Persona: To keep the fairy tale theming with Sumi, I was debating on either Aurora/Briar Rose (Sleeping Beauty) or Belle (Beauty and the Beast) (technically the lead is named "Beauty" but for simplicity's sake let's go with the more well-known name for now).
She would also be a Curse user to contrast Sumi being a Bless user and both stories the characters I'm deciding on have curses involved so they will fit the element at least.
I am slowly leaning towards Belle though because her traits fit Kasumi well and even had sisters in some versions of the tale who were selfish and spoiled in contrast to her (though Beauty was the youngest). One of Sumi's flaws was selfishness so it would tie into both of their proposed arcs perfectly among other things. Perhaps this character might work then? Especially with how she's depicted in the Disney version? If I go with her then the 1st tier will be called, "Nettchen" after the version of Beauty in the German variation of the tale titled, "Little Broomstick." Someone on Twitter suggested Frigg to compliment Sumi's 2nd tier and the 3rd tier will be called, "Belle."
The sprite edits for Kasumi and short haired Sumire are by me btw along with this 2nd concept art edit for a couple of Kasumi's uniforms and her post game look:

So what do you all think? I worked hard on the edits and this AU so I hope you all like! ^_^
