5 : 14 AM - satosugu

“Thought you said that you’re quitting, Suguru?”

5 : 14 AM - Satosugu

Suguru smiled at his lover’s face, blowing a smoke ring towards him. Satoru didn’t appreciate it, but considering all the things Suguru has done that he doesn’t appreciate, smoking is easy to forgive. Satoru fanned the cigarette-smell away with a hand. “You said the girls didn’t like you smoking?”

“They don’t.” Suguru answered. He found it a bit cute that Satoru would check up on Nanako and Mimiko indirectly like this. “That’s why I do it secretly.”

Satoru just grunted his annoyance. He was still lying naked in bed, eyes unwrapped, post-orgasm bliss slowly dissipating into the gnawing frustration that only Geto Suguru could cause. The other man had cleaned both of them up and was now sitting cross legged on the easy-chair next to the bed. They were so close: if both of them looked at each other, their lips would touch.

Suguru dragged a puff. “The girls follow this idol who’s been pushing for an anti-smoking campaign. Mimiko’s ballet teacher talks about staying healthy a lot too.” The girls are growing up well, Satoru. Don’t worry about them.

“You won’t listen to me.” Satoru complained. “At least listen to them, then. Stop smoking so much. I can see that your stomach walls are getting weaker.” Suguru looked a bit surprised at this, as if he wasn’t expecting Satoru to bring that up, even though he knew nothing could be hidden from the Six Eyes. It was true, lately Suguru had been finding it harder and harder to stomach curses. “It’s probably the smoke killing your internal organs, Suguru.”

“Ah, it could be a lot of other things, Satoru.” Suguru lightly brushed off his concern, but he did douse the cigarette out anyway. “Stress, diet, could be stomach ulcers– don’t just blame the first thing you see . You still keep doing that?” Satoru was obviously not convinced, but chose not to argue further. He just stared at the ceiling of Suguru’s bedroom. He’d memorised that wallpaper pattern at this point.

“Aren’t you getting late for work, Satoru? The sun will be rising soon.”

“The sun tends to do that.”

Suguru chuckled. To Satoru, it warmed his skies the same whether he was 17 or 26 years old. Such a delicate, tinkling laugh. “Move aside then, Satoru. I’m tired too,” he said, crawling under the blankets next to Satoru. “Didn’t get much rest last night, and I have to fix up so many monkeys today.”

Suguru liked saying things like that to bait Satoru. Satoru knew that. Suguru knew that Satoru knew that. Neither reacted to it.

Satoru didn’t enjoy coming to see Suguru like this. Once or twice every year, he would end up in Suguru’s bed, unhappy about the circumstances but unwilling to leave. They’d spend one secret night together. Unlike back in those days where they talked about anything under the sun, they avoided talking about almost everything now. The past was too painful, the future a dead-end. Satoru couldn’t ask, “What did you do today, my Suguru?”, because then his Suguru would answer truthfully and the blind peace that Satoru had woven out of this situation would shatter immediately. So they talked about Shoko, smoking, Nanako and Mimiko, and the state of Suguru’s stomach.

He could feel Suguru falling asleep in his arms. Satoru raked his eyes over Suguru’s handsome chest, branded with the large X scar. He’d offered to fix it a few times, but Suguru would sternly refuse. He knew that Suguru wore that day on his heart every single day since then, replaying it in his head constantly, until he had brainwashed and re-brainwashed himself to this point. Riko Amanai’s corpse. The applause. That one man. That one day that drove them both to insanity.

“You’re sweating, Satoru. Take the heavier blanket off and move closer, you’ll be leaving soon anyway.”

He did.

i keeping mushing takumi from nana and geto suguru together in my head even though geto would kill him within 15 mins if they met

i love the metaphor of 'willingly blind', gojo choosing to blindfold himself to geto's sins, until the very last moment, which is the only time in canon jjk 0 that gojo finally takes his blindfolds off, and sees geto as he truly is then: dead.

I'm ending my life from this

the op of jjk season 2 is rife with symbolism. there's one particular motif, however, that foreshadows the trajectory (and tragedy) of gojo and geto's love story.

The Op Of Jjk Season 2 Is Rife With Symbolism. There's One Particular Motif, However, That Foreshadows

almost immediately, we see geto running through the rain. the stylistic choice to portray him holding his bag over his head is deliberate, because it emphasizes what he conspicuously doesn’t have but so clearly needs: an umbrella.

The Op Of Jjk Season 2 Is Rife With Symbolism. There's One Particular Motif, However, That Foreshadows

gojo, on the other hand, is not operating with the same sense of urgency, seen through him taking his time looking at a cat. gojo has what geto needs, but he's not rushing. their behaviour is incongruous; geto is hurrying to get out of the rain, and gojo remains still, because he’s absolutely not hurrying at all.

The Op Of Jjk Season 2 Is Rife With Symbolism. There's One Particular Motif, However, That Foreshadows

the sense of urgency is compounding, seen through geto bouncing his leg. he’s waiting impatiently in the rain, and he's not using his bag to cover up his head anymore. geto knows gojo is coming; that's why he's impatient— because he's waiting for someone who has what he needs that hasn’t shown up yet.

The Op Of Jjk Season 2 Is Rife With Symbolism. There's One Particular Motif, However, That Foreshadows

geto needs him, yet gojo doesn’t pick up the pace. this is despite the fact that he needs to because it’s raining and geto doesn’t have an umbrella. we, as the audience, feel geto's impatience and we're urging gojo on, yet he still doesn't go any faster.

The Op Of Jjk Season 2 Is Rife With Symbolism. There's One Particular Motif, However, That Foreshadows

sharing an umbrella is an established trope in japan. it’s widely recognized and practiced enough to have its own designated terminology.

The Op Of Jjk Season 2 Is Rife With Symbolism. There's One Particular Motif, However, That Foreshadows

gojo is bringing an umbrella for them to share. that's why it’s repeatedly reinforced to the audience that geto doesn't have one. that’s also why the shots cut between them; it highlights what gojo has that geto doesn’t, and in doing so, ties the narrative together through the umbrella.

by the time gojo finally shows up, the sun has come out. gojo lowers the umbrella and smiles sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. contrarily, geto almost seems resigned, like he’s accepted the fact that gojo took too long. they can’t share the umbrella anymore because they missed their chance to use it.

we can see that geto is saying something to gojo when he finally shows up with the umbrella. you know what i would bet actual money it probably was?

“you’re late, satoru.”

Supernova

Satoru laid there.

The sun was low and casted an orange hue over Jujutsu Tech. It's been 20 minutes since the final fight and he was transported to his old high school where Shoko was waiting for him. He laid there, more bloody and beaten than he's ever been. Each breath left sharp stings through his body. Shoko is supposed to patch him up but he knows.

“I guess he this is it,” he mumbles.

What a life it's been for him. He's become the strongest man alive. Killed his best friend just for him to be revived and used to terrorize the world by the devil's spawn. He's defeated the strongest curse alive and immediately defeated said spawn moments after.

Now he's on his death bed.

To his right was Suguru sprawled out with his entire abdomen caved in and Shoko sitting there, working quietly and quickly. For a moment Satoru thought Shoko was foolish for trying to save them until he realized what she was actually doing.

Shoko was healing and removing the scar on Suguru's head.

Suddenly, an immense pressure of cursed energy weighed down the surrounding area. Satoru's eyes widen and look at Shoko when Suguru's body stirs. "I've been working on a Séance Technique but he'll last for as long as his body last," Shoko smiles weakly through her cigarette smoke, "You can thank me later."

Satoru stares wildly from Shoko than to Suguru when he feels a familiar presence emerge. He hears a sharp gasp and slowly the half-alive man next to him turns his head. His chest tightens and he breathes out a name that belonged to a man he didn't think he'd get to see again.

"Suguru.."

The owner of that name blinks a couple times as if he was trying to remember something. As if he was trying to remember who he was, where he was, and who the man looking so deeply into his eyes was. White hair and the strikingly blue eyes, looking into them brought back years of memories that left a warm feeling in his chest. A name fell through his lips before he realized who it belonged to.

"Satoru?"

The joy that blossomed in Satoru's chest couldn't be explained. He fought alone for so, so long. To hear the voice that should've been by his side all this time call his name brought a smile to his face, despite all the pain his body felt. The smile widens as he turns back to the sky. "Long time no see Suguru," he laughs.

"Tch. And here I thought I finally escaped you, Satoru."

Shoko stifles her own giggle. 'These two just don’t change do they...but I'm glad,' she thinks. There's tears in her eyes and her heart is prepared but it relieved her to see that her methods worked. She has spent every single break she had to learn and study and master it. In their youth, she was always watching the backs of her two classmates. It's been years since then but she never stopped trying to catch up.

And now it finally seems like she has.

"Are you guys seriously going to be like this right now?" She lights another cigarette, throwing the finished one to the side as she moved her feet so she could hold her knees closer to her chest. Satoru turns his head and sticks his tongue out. Suguru rolls his eyes, scoffing at how Satoru didn't seem to change.

It's like they were back to when times were easier. When the world was more forgiving and when youth filled in the bad with vibrant colors.

"How have you been?" Suguru breaks the silence with a smile facing the sky. A suprisingly blue sky in the middle of December. "Ugh, just terrible. Look at me I'm covered in blood and dirt. " Satoru groans sarcastically. Shoko exhales, "The both of you made quite a mess."

The long haired man deadpans, “Please, this hole in me looks like a bigger mess. And it's not my fault I got taken over by Kenjaku." He nudges his head at Satoru. "If anything, it's his fault for not properly dealing with my corpse." His mouth opens to say something but a choked cough and blood cuts him short.

Shoko takes another deep inhale of her cigarette.

Satoru coughs too but it sounds too dramatic to be real. "Stop smoking Shoko I thought you quit. I'm already about to die why are you speeding it up." She flattens the cigarette into the cement and shrugs. "Smoking reminds me of high school and you guys. I thought a couple wouldn't be so bad."

"You guys don't have a lot of time you know," Her tone is a little sad but still teasing, "I worked so hard just for you guys to nag." Suguru looks up at Shoko. To tell the truth, he's sure at least at one point in high school he had a crush on Shoko.

She's become prettier, he thinks.

Silence falls on them. There's so much to say and so little time they don't know where to start. So many apologies and so much time passed without one another.

As much as Satoru wants to be okay with his death and leaving with Suguru, he can't help but wish he could stay for just a little longer. What about his students, all the people he swore to protect, and what about Shoko?

"I'm sorry Suguru," Satoru whispers, "I'm sorry for not being there when you needed it."

Shoko's eyes soften, "Me too. I'm sorry for letting your corpse be taken by some ugly old man."

It's strange. Suguru thinks for a second and he closes his eyes. He could feel his breaths slowing but his urgency seems to be slipping away with each beat of his dying heart. "Stop it, it's weird. It's weird hearing you guys apologize like that," he chuckles dryly. "I could never be mad at you two."

Satoru grins and Shoko shakes her head with a smile. This was how it was supposed to be for the past ten years. It was supposed to be them against the world. Maybe for a trio like them, this was their fated ending.

"Thanks Shoko. For giving me another chance to see you guys."

"It's no biggie. It was the least I could do. Plus, we're best friends anyway right?"

"Yeah. We are."

"Hey! Where's my thank you? I kicked the Kenjaku thing out of your corpse."

"How are you still so annoying..but thanks Satoru."

"Bleh I should've let you just die."

"...”

"I'm glad I got to see you again."

"..me too."

Megumi knew he could only watch from a distance as the person who filled in as his father, his mentor, and his friend spent his last moments. Part of him wants to run over there and tell him to stay but he knows better than that. He smiles bitterly each time his teacher laughs with his two best friends by his side.

Yuji comes over and swings a gentle arm around Megumi's neck. His presence was comforting. Megumi stops and thinks, 'what was the thing that Yuji said? a "good" death is being surrounded by the people that you love? Something like that. Yeah. Gojo-sensei deserves a ‘good death.' Deep in his heart, he truly believed it. Even though his fists are clenched so tightly, his knuckles are white and he's holding back tears.

There was so much they wanted to say and do with Satoru. They still had to show him how they’ve changed and how they’ve become stronger. They weren’t ready to fight in this world without him. Above anything else, they weren’t ready to let him go.

The two watch as the man who saved them and multiple others talk and laugh and smile in his final moments. Though the two faces next to him weren't people they knew too well, they knew their Gojo-sensei was happy with them. Yuji speaks soft and slow, much unlike his usual self.

"You know what I think?"

"What?"

"They're kinda like supernovas."

Megumi pauses but he doesn't look away from the group in front of him. "Like when stars burn out and die?" The more he thinks about it the more he sees it. His teacher and his classmates were geniuses in their own way. In their youth, they must've burned like bright stars in a night sky they painted with their own hands.

"Yeah. They go out in a big boom and it's big and bright."

"…yeah, I see it. They’ve always said that the brightest stars burn the fastest."

All of sudden, Satoru moves his hand just enough to hold Suguru's. He smiles and makes eye contact with Megumi and Yuji for a moment. A moment long enough to say, "Thank you and you're welcome and I'm sorry for leaving such a big burden," and whatever else his eyes called out because Satoru's eyes always held so much in them.

Satoru says something to Shoko and she trembles. Suguru is turning to her too and she holds his hand, rubbing comforting circles on them. Megumi and Yuji knows. If the tension in the air wasn't enough, than the way their teacher turned to Suguru was.

Suguru turns to Satoru, his hand still with Shoko, and Satoru smiles.

A couple moments later, a wail rings through the emptiness of Jujutsu Tech. It's heart wrenching and raw and sounded so painfully lonely.

It's the sound of a cry that’s been held in for too long.

A long battle in the war of good and bad has ended. Who's to say that they'll ever be an end but the end of today's fight held much meaning. Love really is a tragic curse but sorcerers fight curses with curses don't they. Today marks the death of the strongest curse, the strongest villain, and the strongest sorcerer in history. Tomorrow marks a new day for the next generation and a step closer to their shared dream of a better future in the jujutsu world.

Shoko moves to sit between them and she pulls their conjoined hands in her lap. They died on the same day and she smiles. "Thanks for saving me an extra trip." She laughs through her tears. Anyone else would think it was a poorly timed joke but to them it was just right. They would've laughed if they heard it.

The sun slowly began to set and Shoko brought a hand to their faces, holding them gently. A thought rang through her head and the two students who watched with arms wrapped tightly around each other and tears in their eyes.

"They truly burned the brightest."
