okay will someone please tell a superhero one of these days

that killing a mass murderer is not, actually, lowering yourself to their level, but rather, preventing them from murdering more innocent people.

Just once, I want the hero to go “your wife/sister/mother/whatever would not have wanted this!”, and the villain to go, “actually, we talked about this a lot. She was really into vigilante justice and eye for an eye stuff. She always said, if something like this happens, avenge me.”

In the vast world of comics, I wonder if there have been heroes with a “Groundhog Day,” type power. By that I specifically mean a hero who, if they die, immediately finds themselves waking up at the beginning of that day again. If they don’t die, they just continue forward through time.

I’m just thinking of how crazy it would be to have that hero on your super hero team. Like, you go to headquarters in the morning, and it seems like everything’s normal. But then you go to fire off a one liner, and they say it at the same time as you. And suddenly you know. Something went wrong.

And then one day you come in, and your heart drops as you see that their every move looks rehearsed. They answer questions before asked. They are totally aware of everything that’s about to happen. Imagine how scary that would be, realizing you’re starting a day that you’re team mate has failed to survive maybe dozens of times.

“Shh, it’s alright,” the villain said. “You’re doing beautifully and I’m so proud of you. But that’s enough now. It was cruel of them to make you fight me - you could never have won. It’s not your fault.”

You’re the child of two of the most powerful evil villains in the world. You turn 18 and have to tell them you are the hero’s sidekick and that’s why you’re almost never home.

my favourite ever literary trope is “you want me to be a villain? i’ll show you a villain” that shit gives me goosebumps and given the right context also turns me on

The hero shows up at the villain’s doorstep one night. They’re shivering, bleeding, scared. There’s also a slightly dazed look in their eyes– they were drugged. They look like they were assaulted. Looking up at the villain, swaying slightly as they’re close to passing out, they mumble “…didn’t know where else to go…” then collapse into the villain’s arms.

ok but my favorite superhero trope

is when the hero is having a slightly more mundane discussion while in the middle of a fight. like it shows they are capable and still have a social life and its funny. like just punching people while discussing how your date flopped last night over the comms, or arguing over a better movie to watch that night after patrol with fellow heroes you work with. gahhh I LOVE IT

character concept: the best trick archer in the world, the trick to which is that he’s actually not an archer at all, he’s a speedster and he can’t aim for shit, every time he takes a shot he actually just grabs the arrow, runs over to what he wants to stick, then runs back before anyone can see him move

my favorite, oddly specific trope is when both the hero and the villain know each other’s secret identities and they wind up bumping into each other when they’re in civilian mode, but they can’t throw down (even though they both REALLY want to) because surprise! they have a mutual friend. so they’re just sitting across from each other at the dinner table awkwardly avoiding eye contact and desperately trying to dodge Oblivious Friend’s questions about what they did over the weekend because they can’t very well sit there and be like “oh yeah this weekend was fun, i went to the movies and then i threw a truck at this asshole’s head” or “not great, there was an issue at the bank and before i could make off with the money, THIS asshole threw a truck at my head”

The heroes nearly won with the “Friendship is power” trope, but lost because the villains did that trope but better.

heres my superhero idea: guy who’s pretty much normal, but is immune to anyone with superpowers. if supervillains try to attack him, he’s immune to their powers. if supervillains with powers try to punch him he’s immune. what he’s not immune to, though, is getting regular beaten up by a completely normal man

Prompt #2274

“Uh uh uh,” the villain chastised. “I’m the only monster around here. Not going dark on me, are you [hero]?”
