Okay these questions are a bit unfair! how could I chose?!

Probably Tessa (I'm lithromantic tho so my whole thing is having completely one-sided crushes 😅)

I'd like to hear your opinion on various TSC characters.

why series malec is a perfect parallel with book malec

¡contains spoilers from every type of the shadowhunters chronicles!

today i would like to show why the relationship of alec and magnus in the series is a perfect representation of the malec that we know in the books.

we all can agree that the series change a lot of important stuff from the books and take it own path in a lot of things but malec.

to understand this better please think as series malec as an "what if book malec first meet years later" (obviously cuz series!alec is what? 23? and series!magnus looks like he stop aging at 25?, and book!alec was 17 when he first appears and book!magnus looks 19)

the first meet in the book is a lot more peaceful than in the series, magnus is throwing a party and our shadowhunters go there to free clary's mind block, is a introductory scene to the downworld basically, the fun part come when our shadowhunters are leaving and magnus winks to alec and says "call me" and speechless alec has to be move by jace cuz he's so flustered, of course this is harmless flirting from magnus but alec is everything, to alec is the first time someone notices him for himself more than just jace and izzy sibling. in comparison to the series where we can see how magnus is a little more serious about his intentions and alec is also more put together, all this because both of them are more mature.

from this point the series takes a different turn from the books, while in the books (the bane chronicles/city of ashes) we see how alec is the one to do the first move while keeping it quiet and magnus being reluctant at first only to be the one to fall the fastest (the plot line of alec having a crush on jace ends in city of glass and only serves to help alec realize or clear his feelings for magnus) in summary, the books takes us through the shy beginning of this relationship and it first problems (closeted alec keeping magnus as a secret + alec's crush on jace)

in the other hand, the series show this kinda slow burn, angst, mutual pining, (and a easy ending to the jace crush plot line) we have a magnus being sure of what he wants while alec is trying to fix everyone's mistakes and not knowing what to do with his feelings.

why this happen? why is so different but so right?

here's the answer, the alec that we get to know in the books is a wallflower that still believes in love, a social awkward boy that has the opportunity to know what a relationship is at the perfect moment and wants to give it a try, while the series alec feels like he lost that opportunity and is shutting himself off whenever the chance of changing that happens, even if this alec feels attracted to magnus instantly, he doesn't know what to do and is no longer brave enough to fight for it, if it wasn't because of magnus not giving up and izzy being the amazing sister that she is, our series alec would have never get to know what love is.

what i'm trying to say is that series!malec is beautifully portrayed and it carried the show.

(i can do another part analyzing different scenes with it equivalent in the books if there's people interested, there's so much to talk and i can go for days if necessary)

I see this a lot, where even characters like Julian and Alec and even Tessa and sometimes even Kit and darling Ty are reduced to ship names but these people have gone through hell and back and THEY. ARE. I N D I V I D U A L S. 

You can appreciate their ship without diminishing all the character development they've gone through themselves to get to this point. 

Mark Blackthorn deserved so much better than to be reduced to his relationship w Cristina and Kieran

Shadow Hunters: 

You're in for a long ride... 1 series...2 series...3 series...4 series...5 series...6 series and 3 huge ass novelas. Once you're in--there is no way out. But you won’t want a way out. 

Yes, we have a TV show...no it is not like the books and yes it is trash (fight me). Humour (hell yes, even when their shouldn't be...Herondales got your back making tense situations lighter since 1234 ;)  Tears, plot twists and a lot of family drama...if you can figure out which family you're from but if you can’t some immortal warlocks will probably remind you of what a prick your ancestors were (or otherwise).

Wait oh yeah and they fight demons sometimes but are usually caught up in fighting wars over their own messed up political systems. If you don’t like someone there's always someone else. A L W A Y S. The characters are endless, (you'll figure out how to keep track of them all)  but you’ll love each and everyone with whatever shards of your heart you still have left :) Think someone or something is insignificant. (think someone is dead?) HA. THINK AGAIN!

will you cry? yes. will it be worth it? A B S O L U T LY. Ships? HELL YES. Fandom ship conflict...sometimes, except over MALEC. because....no. They are untouchable.

1.  A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Yikes.  I can’t help you.  Be prepared for lots of conflicts over characters - Do we stan Tamlin, Nesta, and Elain?  Do we ship Elriel (Elain x Azriel), Elucien (Elain x Lucien), or neither?  Don’t forget to use caution - we have a lot of ~steamy~ jokes floating around here

2.  Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Wow, this is intense.  Personally, I am not heavily into Tumblr’s HP fandom, but I can say one thing - Non-canon ships.  We sink canon and let the best ships sail.  Drarry?  Totally.  Wolfstar?  Most definitely.  Romione?  Debatable.  Dramione?  Not as popular as Drarry, perhaps, but also debatable.  Hinny?  What’s that?  Does that exist?  What’s that, now?  I’m forgetting something important?  Oh, yeah… how do we feel about Snape?  Also, what’s your Hogwarts house?  You should know that.  Keep that very close - but don’t be afraid to blur the lines between houses.

3.  Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

What do we want?  THE CROWS TV SHOW.  When do we want it?  Now!  This may actually be the most wholesome fandom on this site.  Except, there’s one little thing… but I won’t spoil it for you.  Because.  It.  Never.  Happened.

4.  Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Turn back.  Turn back NOW.  Your heart is important.  Don’t let anyone rip it out of your chest… and NEVER.  EVER.  TRUST SOMETHING THAT SAYS “FRIENDLY REMINDER.”  There is a 95% chance that it is most definitely not friendly.  Oh yeah, there’s also a huge stockpile of pre-KOA theories…

Rereading The Last Hours (chronologically) before Chain of Thorns comes out

I’m witchlightdreams and I’m planning to reread the entirety of The Last hours including online extras and side stories in other companion books of the Shadowhunter and I made a plan so everyone can join me. 💜

The Shadowhunter wiki has a very concise timeline of the stories, but it doesn’t include the online Extras and snippets that aren’t canon. So I put together a longer list that has all extras (excluding a few super short snippets) together. This is probably not for people who read TLH for the first time though, since a few of the short stories and extras contain spoilers.

I already asked people if they would be interested in a book club to reread TLH and I got much positive feedback. I thought long about how to achieve a communal book club so I had the idea of just making a hashtag that hasn’t been used yet to share our thoughts on the current chapter, post art, etc. What do you guys think of #TLH reread challenge?

I’ve made a plan in which order I will read the The Last hours again before the big finale and everyday I will post something about the reading section of the day, life-blog about my thoughts while reading, post art and reblog other stuff from the hashtag, so if you want to keep up-to-date and join the book club, you can either follow this blog or the hashtag or just DM me if you want to join the book club but don’t want to post yourself. I would be very interested to read this communally, so if you want to read at the same time as me, please use the tag or tell me directly. Of course you can also join later or skip the extras at the beginning entirely.

Of course no one has to follow my recommended plan, you should always read in your own time and find joy in reading. I just made this for myself and everyone who wants to read parallel with me. I’m trying to keep every daily section under 50 pages and always between 25-45 pages, but in the beginning it might not be possible, especially with the extra stories, since they don’t have page numbers and because short stories are usually longer than chapters.

If you want resources where to find the extra stories, I made a second post for that and tagged it with our book club tag.

In case you don’t own the companion books or don’t want to read the short stories because they’re too long, that’s not a problem! The Shadowhunter wiki has a good summary of those so you don’t have knowledge gaps!
