As written by a longtime friend of mine and I'm with her on these thoughts. My heart goes out to all of the American women that have been stripped of their fundamental right to make decisions regarding their health and body. No woman makes those choices lightly. These politicians don't understand the medical ramifications of this for so many women and Birthing parents.
If you think this cannot happen in Canada you are dead wrong. Conservative MLAs are already talking about stacking our Supreme Court in a similar fashion to gain the same outcome. Not just fringe members, but MLAs like Brian Jean in Alberta making these statements.
This is huge. Women in life threatening situations may not be able to get access to necessary Medical treatment. This is already happening in countries like Malta where they have criminalized abortion care and the maternal mortality rate increased. Women who have miscarriages that have not been expelled are dying from infections. They're dying from ectopic pregnancies which are not viable to begin with.
In Brazil women are being jailed for miscarriages. In Poland they're implementing a pregnancy registration, forcing women to register and monitoring and investigating them if something should god forbid happen.
This is not about the children. This is not about religion because there is nothing supporting forced birth in the bible. Jesus was a Jew. Jewish law dictates that the mother's life is paramount. Numbers 5:11-31 literally prescribed abortion if a man thought his wife might have been unfaithful. Even with no evidence. In Exodus 21: 22-25 it is very clear that a fetus is not considered a life. There are several other passages that state life does not begin until first breath
This is purely about controlling women. Suppressing women. This is about undermining women's strives in equality. This is about misogyny.
No women makes the choice to abort lightly. More often it isn't a choice at all but medically necessary. The vast majority of abortions are completed within the first 12 weeks. And any late term abortions are due to serious medical complications or fetal death. After 20 weeks, that women HAS to deliver. It is medically induced labor only done when the fetus is no longer viable or the mother is at risk of death. D and C is no longer an option. Yet these conservative or Republican politicians espouse otherwise. The uneducated malicious fear mongering is a blatant attack on women's health.
We cannot let this happen in Canada. We cannot in good faith vote for a party that would strip half of our population of our fundamental right to medical care and body attonomy. We cannot stand by and allow our Nation be dragged down by Forced Birth Extremists. They are not pro life, if they were they wouldn't be passing laws that kill women. That is all you do when you take away abortion care. YOU DO NOT STOP ABORTION YOU JUST KILL WOMEN THAT NEED THEM.
