Anyone remember the Robin-Hood episode of Doctor Who? I thought of a rewrite.
The whole time I was watching it I was thinking “why is The Doctor so annoyed by this guy…” and I came to the conclusion that the reason The Doctor knew that guy was fake was because The Doctor is the one who inspired Robinhood stories, and therefore the other guy wasn’t real, but given the time period it wasn’t someone cosplaying for fun.
I never finished the episode cuz it got too cringy and it didn’t feel like The Doctor would spend the the entire time arguing with this guy. I know he’s been kinda jealous before, or at least snarky jealous — that one time with the king of France — but he’s never spent the ENTIRE FUCKING STORY JUST BICKERING WITH SOME RANDO HE THINKS IS TROLLING HIM
It maketh no sense
Random thought: what if Theta Sigma isn't just an Academy nickname, but a designation given by the Time Lords to denote which iteration of the Doctor they're dealing with?
The Doctor doesn't know that, they think it's just a silly Academy thing. They don't know that each time the Time Lords have wiped their memory they've been given a marker: Alpha Alpha, Alpha Beta, Alpha Gamma... all the way until Theta Sigma.
This post is what caused me to put this book on my Christmas list this year. I got it and I’m not super far in yet (I’m in Chapter 5, shortly after the bit with Borusa, actually) but it is entirely as fun as advertised so far! :)
Honestly I just get so excited whenever they go to Gallifrey, despite the Doctor and all intergalactic tour guides’ apparent consensus that it is a hopelessly dull place. But it’s a place replete with backstory and that’s why I love it. I have an academy-era fic I’ve been working on and I’m already thinking how I’m going to have to revise my portrayal of Borusa based on what I’ve learned in this book.
And, of course, it does have that distinctive Douglas Adams tone. My dad was surprised to learn that Adams had written for Doctor Who, actually, so that was a fun bit of knowledge to impart. Very fun book :)

the time lord class isn't Only an allegory for rich politicians or rich people, it's an allegory for Old Money rich politicians, where the Name is the most important part of their power.
In actual British society, to make up a fictitious example, Lord Kettlebum has political power and connections to the prime minister and most of the cabinet (Probably all went to Eton) and the royal family, along with miscellaneous non-royal aristocracy whom he probably was playmates with from childhood.

(at some point, Lord Kettlebum may have Been prime minister. Which one? eh, doesn't matter).
And so on and so forth, except backwards (and in the future, so forth).
In the allegoric British empire, the Name is important. The Name, like above with our fictitious Lord Kettlebum, is worn by different faces all the time, except instead of being hereditary on Gallifrey it's literally the same person wearing different bodies.
It's also important to note that Old Money doesn't Necessarily have to imply having money. It's about Power. An upstart can be as rich as they like, but they're still not and never Will be Old Money and will never be given the same respect. On the flip side, somebody who Is old money who's dirt broke is still old money. That's the Doctor, btw.
idk, i just feel like a lot of the more interesting allegoric implications of time lord society are lost if you aren't forced to grapple with the utter depraved nightmare that is the British class system. Because why on Earth would you learn about that if you don't absolutely have to?
Swooning Over Doctors - by ME
I very much buy into the headcanon that The Doctor's sexual orientation changes with regeneration but at the same time that is such a funny idea. Imagine surviving a near death experience and suddenly you like men now.

Doctor who AU where timelords are a good bit eldetich/cryptid this IS the thirteenth doctor as she was the one I had first got the idea about doing.
Hers are mostly rabbit, dragonfly, hairless cat, reptile, and a bit of parrot fish/pelican.
(The galaxy part is scaled, and she is hoofed/clawed??)
Anyways my little au involves timelorda having tails and "horns" (which are their antenna. They are sturdy but used to help with telepathic communication).
Their forms may change, but their antenna doesn't change shape, color though can change. (While I day this, there can be slight variations of shape but not by much).
How they hide this form is by keeping extra bits and their whole body disperse through space and time around them. Putting parts away till their "human."
Tails also change, but the only consistent part is there almost always thin and long, uncomonly will they be short. Otherwise, it's all fair game.
Despite being one gender they can have other animals sexual dimorphism. (Like a timelord where the body is female, but they have male peacock colors plus tail feathers).
The language that the time lords speak is very...let's say chimey. Depending on what they say, it's very diverse, going from wind chimes to rolling thunder, to the tik of a clock, all the way to the ground shaking. It's very unhuman, and for some things, you can feel the sound through your bones. (Hehe, maybe they can make the bone clanking noise :) ).
Another tidbit I'll add is that timelords are COMPLETE hoarders. Especially the doctor. They(the doctor) will steal companions' clothing once they know/trust someone close. Their room does have a bed at some part of it, but the room is COMPLETELY filled with junk from their travels.
On that note, low-key headcannon that timelords see time as the way we see saltwater be introduced to freshwater. They always see it there but can lessen it in situations where they need to see clearly by looking past time. They see the timeliness on objects, and that's why the doctor steals from companions so they can always see/smell and remember the past in the best way possible
I'll stop now, but I'm still just a little indulgence.

Also, the body is based on galaxies, and the stars do move on her :D. And the ball on the tail glows in the dark.

Short from my story
The Doctor had come a long way from the reckless and borderline suicidal man he was in his ninth incarnation. But he still had moments of sadness.
Like the time the two of you were striding through a field, hand in hand, looking for an ancient cave network that housed 10 foot sparkling crystals.
“Do you know where you’re going?”
“This way, y/n. You’re gonna love this! The crystalline structures were formed from silica created by a huge lava pit that used to be here. They’ve been growing for thousands of years. Bioluminescent organisms in the molecules of the crystals make them glow!” The Doctor rambled on happily leading you over rolling hills.
“Doctor I think I see an opening in the hillside over there” You said pointing across the clearing.
“That’s the one!”
He began tugging you in that direction. The two of you trudged down, into a valley between hills.
He had stopped abruptly, forcing you to stop with him. You turned to the Doctor, fully prepared to tug him along impatiently, as he often did to you. But the look on his face made you pause.
Big, sad eyes, framed by his creased brow. You couldn’t quite place the emotion. You followed his gaze back to the scene in front of you. It was beautiful, sure, but not something you’d guess would warrant that look.
But as you took in the mountains, the sinking sun casting an orange halo around them. And the field that stretched out between you, it clicked.
His voice in your memory, leaned towards you and hushed, for your ears only. He spoke of his home. Gallifrey, with its burnt orange sky and giant, magnificent citadel. Incased in a glass dome. You could picture the resemblance.
You could now put a name to the emotion spread across his face; a bittersweet nostalgia., homesickness. Your gaze softened and you took a step closer to him, gently squeezing his hand.
The Doctor finally glanced away from the scene to meet your eyes.
“It’s beautiful here” You say, keeping your voice soft.
“It is, isn’t it?” The Doctor smiles down at you and begins walking again at a slower pace towards the cave.
This is the story of the doctor, the last of the time-lords,the myth, the savior of galifrey,the defeater of the Daleks, the time traveler. His companions will tell you he is the most amazing person there is, That the TARDIS is bigger on the inside, So who ever is reading this whether you, Doctor, are ready this yourself or if it's the next companion or if the doctor is long gone and someone has found this book, just know the doctor will help who ever needs it in the Galaxy and through out time with that Sonic screwdriver of his and his cleverness. So who ever finds this this is the story of The Last Time-Lord.
