Summary: There are people that are deep dreamers. The kind that have the ability to spin their nightmares into something else. So what happens when the Dreamer is apart of someone else's dream?
A/N: This is one of those dream within a dream scenarios. You know? The one where you have a dream - wake up, only to realize your ass is still dreaming? Yeah. I maybe had Shangri-La on repeat one day while I slept.
-----------------------
She always dreamed in bright and vivid colors. Like a rainbow whirled in colors of deep space pulsating nebula. It was always like this, recently, that she could pick out each color blend. Every night as music drifted into her ears, and the calm settled over her mind - this dazzling display always seemed to be waiting.
One night something changed.
She didn't know the why or how of it - but something was different. The landscape of the dream had morphed into something...more. She could always see a tall figure looming ahead. A silhouette made more prominent by the shifting colors of the dreamscape.
She would always see him turn his head, ever so slightly, over his shoulder. It gave her pause after many nights of approaching this figure. Some nights she'd get closer, some nights it seemed as if she was walking in place. The distance between them grew - but she never gave up.
It never crossed her mind as anything but an overactive brain trying to settle after a hard day.
The next night came around and the day had been particularly difficult. Her emotions had swung from each end of the spectrum of good and bad. The stresses of family difficulties weighed heavily that night. She grabbed her earbuds with a heavy sigh. The music streaming app had paused on the last song she hadn't finished before waking for the day.
Music had always been an escape, a way to sway the torrent of emotions that she fought against daily. Music, next to writing, was a saving grace against the mental goblins of depression: a playlist created for each emotion, for the sadness, for the malaise, and the yearning of a lonely heart.
"For once, I just...want to sleep. No dreams." Her fingers curled around her phone as if negotiating with it. Like it held power to determine where her mind would take her tonight. Her fingers sunk into her blanket as she pulled it over her head. The music filtered into her ears as her breathing eased into a soft lull.
She could always remember when deep sleep started. It always started to blur the sound of the music, like she was traveling farther away from the melody. Like the connection between the waking world was playing through a layer of fabric.
Then she opened her eyes. "No." A hushed whisper as she stared up into the 'sky.' The whirling colors of the universe danced in front of her. An arm rose to cover her gaze, hiding from the intense display.
"What took you so long?" A surly voice echoed around her. For all that attitude, he spoke softly. Pushing to sit up, eyes wide, she looked around to find the source.
"You've got to be kidding me." Her gaze lifted upward. Of all the things, the places she could have had dancing through her dreams. Why...
Why HIM?
Draped in silk reflecting the colors above them, he was perched on a rock - staring down at her. "You really should stand up." A brow rose as she continued to stare up at him. The realization caused her to scramble to her feet.
She stared at him for a long moment before closing her eyes. "It's just a dream." An exhale as her hands pushed out in front of her. As if she could move the scowling vision from her sight. There was a swish of sound that tickled her ears before a strong grip caught her wrist.
"Don't do that." The tug was strong enough to throw her off balance. She stumbled forward into him and suddenly began to doubt her sanity. It was a dream.
It WAS a dream.
But, he felt too solid for her liking. "You're not real. I'm exhausted. I'm tired. This is a dream." He pulled her against him, staring down into her wide eyes.
"Is it?" He was so close to her. He was so very close. He was way too close! She wasn't a short woman by any means. He had enough inches on her to make that tilt of his head just enough to put them almost nose to nose.
"Is it a dream?" His breath felt hot against her face, against her cheek. So close to the corner of her lips.
"IT IS A DREAM!?" Her heart was beating furiously. She could feel a lump form in her throat. These physical reactions seemed too much. They were, in fact, too much.
Enough that she pulled away from him and the world seemed to open under her feet. She gasped as she fell into the darkness. The last thing she saw was the sudden darkening of his gaze and a look of silent rage as the muscle ticked in his jaw.
She woke up gasping, sweating, and clutching her blanket to her chest.
It was only 4 a.m.
"Damnit." She hissed finally releasing the tension from her fingers. There was a thump as she slapped the edge of the bed, forcing herself upward. She shook her fingers as she padded toward the kitchen, followed by a trio of worried doggies.
The faucet rumbled as water filled her glass. It was raised to her lips before her gaze settled on the tilted heads of her pets.
"It's fine, guys. I promise." The glass was drained of its contents in almost two swallows. She set the glass in the sink with a sigh. Was it really fine? Another glance to the tilted heads caused her to shake her own.
If animals could speak? She was sure they would tell her - they didn't believe her.
Hell, she didn't believe herself.
She stared at her bed for a few minutes, as if contemplating whether it was worth it to try and sleep any more. "I think I'll just..catch up on some writing." Yeah, that was safe.
This continued for the next few days. She always woke up in that 'realm' greeted by colors and HE was always nearby. No longer a distance silhouette, no longer a mystery. Always waiting, scowling and surly, for her to arrive.
Always getting closer and closer to her. Always seething when she forced herself awake.
Today was no different. The day progressed faster than she realized. Before she knew it? Her phone screen blinked at 7 pm. Her hands stretched upward as her eyelids began to droop. These extended hours weren't new to her, but it had been a while since it had been consecutive in this fashion.
"Ugh. What's the point of eating now?" The heel of her palms dug into her eye sockets as she tried to blink the sleep away. It wasn't working. A nap would solve all of this. Just a short nap, to knock the haze off.
She didn't remember getting in the bed or bothering with the blanket. She didn't even remember if she put on the playlist. She just remembered the cool softness of a pillow - and then nothing.
She had achieved the nothingness she wanted, finally.
Or so she thought.
The vivid intensity of color was gone. There were lights like stars dotting the blackness beyond. She moved her from one end of the display to the other. And there he was, again.
She blinked, and he was suddenly closer.
"You're a strong dreamer." His long fingers curled against her cheek. She could feel the metal of his rings against her skin. "...but that won't work tonight. You know that, right?" There was still that slight surly, scowl in his tone. Normally expressionless, you'd almost think that he..smiled? Smirked? There was a twitch in his lip that gave away to some emotion. His fingers unfurled as they tucked under her chin. He was right; tonight would be different. There's a difference between dreaming in a controlled state - and dreaming in an exhausted state. And she was in a state of utter exhaustion. Her body was running on fumes and had every intention of resetting its energy levels.
Which meant she would sleep like a log until someone or something woke her. How did he know? How did he know that?! Infuriating! He was absolutely infuriating.
He loomed over her, their faces close. She could feel the fingers sliding down the side of her neck. The fingers were cool as they put a possessive pressure against her throat. She made an unexpected sound, covering her mouth in embarrassment. A smile spread across his face as he pulled the hand away, pinning it above her head. "Who am I?" His voice was low, moderately as if he was mustering every ounce of menace in his very being.
"You're a dream."
There was that possessive pressure that sent shivers from head to toe. That sound escaped her again; he looked pleased. "Who am I?" His face was too close again. He straddled her knees pinning her to the floor.
"This is impossible." She spoke between clenched teeth.
"And yet here we are. Say my name." He urged again pushing her free hand into the ground harder.
It was stress. That's all this was. This was some music-induced stress dream. And maybe, if she just went along? It would end. Sometimes you have to go with the flow. She was constantly in the business of controlling the flow.
Fine. She'd let this go wherever it was heading. This fighting, this strange battle was becoming too deep nightly. It was causing fitful sleep. So, she willed herself to relax. She became soft and yielded beneath him. He sucked in a sharp breath through his teeth. "Say my name." There was a huskiness to his voice.
She took a deep breath, exhaled softly as she closed her eyes. And she said it. She said the name that linked him to the waking world. She said the name she had screamed at the computer during live broadcasts. She said the name she yelled in her car as her favorite songs came on. It was strange to feel the flutter of her lashes against her cheek as her eyes opened. He looked satisfied, hungry almost. He was too close.
His lips brushed against hers. Her eyes flew opened wide on a gasp - and he took advantage. He tilted her chin upward locking his lips to her own. It felt too real! The slide of their lips together, the teasing tip of a tongue daring entry. He went from straddling her legs to covering her body with his own. He still held the one arm captive above her head. She had forgotten all about it. Beads of sweat formed, her heart began to run a derby in her ears. It was too hot; she couldn't breathe. The weight of him was too real. And when the panic was growing? He finally let up allowing her to breathe uninterrupted.
"I've been waiting for you." He said. Her brow furrowed in confusion. This is a dream. His fingers slid through her hair as he searched the planes of her face. It was too hot. He frowned, recognizing external stimuli was starting to interfere. Pushing to stand he pulled her up with him. That weird blurring of the world caused a strange static in her ears.
Wait, no. I don't want to wake up yet! He was saying something. His hand was on her tight, for dear life. As if he could somehow hold her there. He was talking as she shook her head. She was waking up; a panicked look up at him as his lips moved.
"I..I can't understand what you're saying!" Her voice rose in pitch as the world fell away. She could have sworn she heard a faint echo — something reverberating in the walls of her mind as she fell into the dreamless state. Maybe it was her imagination. Because the last thing she heard?
Soon.
The dreams became more infrequent, more irregular as time passed on. Then they stopped altogether. She found herself sad, oddly, that nothing greeted her but that vivid nebula of colors. It was time to settle into the normality of things. Because she was sure it was just stress, right?
A friend called, out of the blue, with strange, yet fortuitous news. "So, I know you've been in a slump. I'm going to KCON and I think you should come with me. It would do you some good to get out of the state." Her friend sounded chipper, hopeful.
There was every excuse, and story of why she couldn't go - why she shouldn't go. And finally, a good fat excuse dinged in her brain. Like the sound of a microwave done zapping a meal. "You're right. Let's go." Wait, what? She shocked herself! And before she could change her mind? Her friend squealed with joy, rushed that she would figure everything out and hung up. Shit.
Barely a week had passed and she was on a plane, headed to L.A. Her friend rambled about all the things they would do. All the food they would eat. All the hi-touch, autograph and photo opportunities. It went into one ear and out of the other. She promised to not ruin this good time for her friend. They landed in California, it was bright and sunny. It was warm and loud. It was different from home and it invigorated her, just a little. They checked in, had dinner, and passed out. Tomorrow would be a long, packed day. She dreamed that night, but couldn't remember anything but fragments. Vivid colors. The sound of water. That distant silhouette.
Soon
She didn't dwell too long on it as they rushed to dress comfortably and leave. There were so many people! It was a sensory overload of scents and sounds. Her friend was rambling on about..something or the other. A word, a name caught her attention causing her to stop. Her friend turned to look at her, concerned. "What?"
"You - I'm sorry, where did you say we were going first?" Her friend laughed. "I thought I'd surprise you! You like that one group, right? VIXX?" The friend reached back and grabbed her arm to tug her along. "We're going to the fan event! Come on or we'll be in the back!"
It felt like the world went in double-time. They maneuvered through the throng of people to get, decent spots, in line for the fan event. Sure, she'd missed them when they were on the East Coast. But, this too advantageous.
Then it happened - the lights dimmed. The host came on the stage to mild applause. Everything seemed muffled like she was trying to listen with water in her ears. She could feel her nails digging into her palms. Using it as an anchor to keep her grounded, she watched as the group flood onto the stage. The applause, screams, and tears of fans rumbled the walls. They introduced themselves in typical fashion. Each stating their name and position, adding a smile, a wink or some type of aegyo at the end.
"They're doing a concert tonight!" Her friend nudged her excitedly. "We've got great seats for it!" She could only nod as they began their Q&A. The crowd yelled answers to questions. Laughed at jokes and silly antics, and then with the last chunk of time left? There was an opportunity to high-touch. Her friend dragged her to line squeezing in just at the cut-off. She turned to face her friend who gave her two thumbs up as she approached the stairs. I'm definitely going to kill her later.
The rough sound was louder than she realized, the girl in front of her turned with a questioning look. A small cough left her as she went up the stairs. She was the last one. Pictures really didn't do them any justice. They were really like mystical creatures.
The Leader smiled in that way that causes everybody to scream - it was intense.
The Rapper was charming, in a boyish way! It was a stark comparison to his bad boy rap persona in videos.
The Cute Main Vocal reminded her of a cherub. The slightly pudgy-faced, rosy-cheek messenger angels.
The Visual was stunning - what more could you say? The nickname Artwork fit him perfectly. You felt a sudden warmth at the width of his smile. He rightfully earned his title as bias wrecker supreme.
The Evil Maknae had grown so well! He was reaching the point where his height was starting to crest over the other members. She couldn't help but laugh as they high-five. This was good! This wasn't too bad, at all. She managed to get in words of thanks for their hard work in with each high-five.
There was a lopsided smile on her face as she continued on to the last member - her bias. She felt the smile begin to waver a tad but held up as she raised her hand to complete the line. A calming inhale as her eyes lifted to meet his. Her hand connected with his, "Thank you for your hard work. Good luck tonight."
His fingers interlocked with hers with that intense stare. "You."
She knew that stare from her dreams. Her nostrils flared as the grip on her hand increased. "Impossible!" She was frozen in place.
He leaned down those few inches. The others members turned to look confused, shocked and stunned at Leo’s behavior. The sound of murmurs, gasps, and squeals flooded the room. There was that look on his face. He was pleased with her response. Their noses brushed as she stumbled into him again. "I told you I would see you soon." His lips brushed against hers again. The same strange heat and intensity. In front of everyone! In front of these cell phones and staff!
He broke their contact, releasing her hand causing her to stumble. Her arms pinwheeled as she fell backward. The world opened up beneath her as he watched her fall. He smirked as the world began to fizzle. "You're not the only strong dreamer."
Her eyes went wide as she fell into darkness...
....and woke up in her bed.
Gasping.
Sweating.
...and clutching her blanket to her chest.

Love? That has no meaning to me when you were born to kill. Everything I touch, withers away and dies. You will be no exception.
You guys haven’t killed me yet.
That’s because you still have a use and once that done? You will be thrown away like so many before you and.....others I know.

Chapter 6- Cry Little Sister
Last fire will rise behind those eyes Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie Immortal fear, that voice so clear Through broken walls, that scream I hear

There were fingers trailing along the curve of the neck, dipping down to cast little circles on the shoulder. The fingers were cold against your skin but each touch felt electric as they moved down the arm and took hold of your hand. You knew it was a man there before you but the face just wouldn’t focus. There was no fear in that moment, his eyes softly glowing like a sunset. The more that you tried to focus on the face, the more it seemed to blur. But the color of his eyes stayed fixed on you, never moving or blinking.
He pulled you to his chest, wrapping his arms around you in a tight hold. Both of you started to rock in place, almost dancing in that presence. There, he could hold you for as long as you stayed asleep and you could relax in that calm hold. Away from all the noises of the world, away from the danger that you had just been through and let the quiet of the night engulf both of you. Was that what peace was like? Quiet and calm, secure but strong? You hoped so as you pressed your face into his chest tighter, cheeks squishing against his hard chest. There was a low rumble you could hear as you realized that he was starting to speak.
“Dear… you came back to me but broken.”
His fingers then spread out over your back, soothing circles into that area as he danced in place with you. You looked down and realized that neither of you had either foot on the ground. Panicking, you grabbed at him more--resulting in a light chuckle from him.
“Don’t worry. I’ll never drop you nor will they have you. You are safe with me, remember that.”
Everything started to fade away but you grabbed at him even harder, not wanting to leave. One hand reached up to pat your head and smooth down some of the wild hair. He hummed a little melody to calm the nerves, still drifting along with you in his arms above the ground. You could feel yourself relaxing more into his arms as your eyes closed.
Lucky’s eyes opened but instead of expecting sunlight in the eyes, she saw that her curtains looked different. That was when she realized that she was no longer in her own room. The bed was impossibly soft and the colors of the sheets were a stark contrast to what she knew she had in her room. Black silk enveloped her body as she laid there, stock still and paralyzed with fear. She had no idea how she even got there and she was convinced that if she moved, she would be killed.
“Ok, Lucky. You have got to move. You aren’t dead so you can still get out.” She whispered to herself, gathering up the courage to do so. Carefully, she sat up and instead of pain like she had remembered--there was none. Just a bit of soreness where she knew she had been hurt. After all, the last thing she remembered wasn’t a dream.
Swinging her feet over the edge of the bed, Lucky made another discovery in the form of her not being in the same clothes she left out in. She only had on a very large white button up shirt that looked way too expensive and dangled at the ends because she was fairly short. She carefully felt around where the wounds were supposed to be but only felt skin and the little bit where something used to be. There was no scar, only smooth tissue. She tested her feet by standing up and placing them on the cold ground, bouncing as if she was preparing to run. There had to be a way out of there and she was going to find it before anyone could stop her.
The door didn’t even creak as she pulled it open, giving her hope that she could make it out of there quietly. She was glad that she didn’t wear her glasses to the outing with Laoise as she had her contacts still in. With everything that had happened to her, they probably would have been broken and she would have been crawling around like Velma trying to get out. She quietly padded around, looking everywhere and anywhere for any chance or type to escape. There was a murmur of voices that could be heard by her and she risked a peek over the railing, noticing that she was fairly high up.
There were a couple of men standing on the ground floor, backs to her as they talked. Lucky quietly moved away from the railing as she let them talk, continuing to look for a way out. Finding some stairs, she descended them as quickly as she could but it never failed that at the middle of the steps--a creak could have been heard. She froze, eyes wide as she frantically looked around to see if anyone heard the sound. Her ears strained to hear any footsteps that might have been on their way but there were no such sounds. Once on the ground floor, she turned and saw something that she thought she’d forgotten about.
The mahogany doors from her dream.
Lucky didn’t notice it before but there were little tea lights that had been lit up everywhere. They highlighted the door, as well as the rest of the area and as she got closer to it--the more of that dream came back to her. Her hands touched the wood, feeling the texture and being absolutely astounded that it actually existed. There, for a brief moment, she forgot that she was in a stranger’s house. It was almost like deja vu as she felt the smooth material under her fingers.
A hand suddenly slammed itself on the door, trapping her there and causing her to jump. Lucky whipped around to see a man there with droopy eyes but a stern look on his face. His amber eyes seemed to bore into her own until her knee rose up to meet his body. She used the opportunity to run away from him while he doubled over. She was about to take another turn when another pair of hands grabbed hold of her body, crushing her to their body. She attempted to scream and fight off the person but only succeeded in getting a good sniff of their cologne.
A feeling of calm washed over her, the panic in her leaving as his voice soothed it all away. She started to relax in his embrace as she wondered if she really was about to die there.
“If you’re going to kill me, get it over with while I feel this nice.” She mumbled but the man that held her laughed, all but dragging her into the main room. She was placed onto a lush couch, rather haphazardly and that was when she saw the strange looking man. Far away, he would have blended in with everyone else but he had something almost ethereal. Tall, handsome and his eyes were all a golden hue which didn’t match any eye color that she had ever seen in her life.
“What do you remember?” His eyes seemed to bore into Lucky’s, an almost sad look on his strong face. The sudden question threw her off and she scrambled to think, his hand flew out to grab her face. His large hand covered her eyes and held onto her top part of her face. She started to panic, flailing and scratching at his hand but the person from behind her gently wrapped their hands around her shoulders to keep her still.
She could see everything play out before her like it was happening all over again. The attack, the pain--all of it was there and it was like she could feel someone else inside of her mind directing the show. His hand grew hot the longer it was on her face, making sweat start to form on her forehead. The edges of her vision started to grow dark, even with the memories and the last thing that she heard was something about erasing her memories. The voices didn’t seem to sound malicious but they were firm in their decision.
Lucky woke up in her bed, safe and sound. She popped awake and threw off the covers that held her there. She scrambled off, expecting the man to still be there but he wasn’t. She blinked rapidly before realizing her contacts were still in therefore confirming everything she had experienced was real. Racing towards her bathroom, she tore off the shirt she had on to examine what had been done. There wasn’t any hint of lacerations, just smooth areas where a scar would have been. She looked at the shirt in her hand and realized that it was the one that she had been wearing in her supposed dream. She dropped it in a panic as if it had bit her and scrambled out of the bathroom.
There was only one person she could tell this to but after several minutes of searching, Lucky could not find her phone to call Laoise with. However, there was a way she could record it so it didn’t slip from her mind. Grumbling, Lucky rummaged about her room for something to write with. Finally finding a notebook, she started to write down everything she could and as she looked back on it--she felt herself calming down. After several minutes and the right hand cramping, Lucky finished recording everything and got properly dressed.
It was over the cup of hot coffee that she realized what it was she actually wrote.
It didn’t make any sense. Her very mind was warring with all of her common sense but there was the whisper of what if. That same whisper that seemed to get her out of a lot of things and gradually earned her the nickname Lucky. She couldn’t ignore her gut feelings but she could figure out what actually happened. Whether or not it was a dream, she had lost many hours of her life in that confusion and needed to know.
A sudden knock startled her out of her thoughts. Lucky kept quiet in hopes that they would go away but the pounding on her door grew. Finally she got up and answered the door, only to find several men in some suits and one or two in regular street wear.
“Miss Leonora Grant?” The one closest held up a badge and offered a wry smile. Lucky only stared at them, trying to figure out if the badge was real. “We need your assistance with an investigation and have determined that you are in danger. Could you come with us please?”
“Wait...what??”
The man sighed and repeated himself, even providing a number to call to verify that they were who they were. Her gut was screaming at her not to go but if they had any answers, she needed to find out what happened.

Chapter 7- Hazy Shade of Winter
I look around Leaves are brown now And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

After letting Lucky get into something more comfortable and switch out to her glasses, the cops escorted her to one of their stations.
The building they took her to seemed a bit large for the cops, almost like a warehouse but it had everything that they would need for the station. What Lucky couldn’t understand, however, was the fact that all of the outside and inside windows as well as doors were so thoroughly banded together. It was as if they were made for protection or to keep something in.
The hustle and bustle of the place kept Lucky from being too interested in what they were doing as she didn’t want to bother the people working. But when they put her in an interrogation room for 5 hours, she realized that she really should have been paying attention. At first, they were innocent questions and stories about what she was doing prior to that night but then it turned into more rigorous questioning. It was as if they were trying to get some sort of confirmation out of her, identifying who everyone was but even she didn’t have that answer.
“Detective Morris, I already told you for the fuckteempth time--I don’t know them!”
Lucky huffed and leaned back in the cold metal chair that they gave her. The cop that was interrogating her smiled again and wrote some things down in his book. The man looked to be too perfect, from his hair to his teeth. She thought that he needed to be on the TV as a rep for some sort of beauty product or teeth whitener. It was unnerving and it made Lucky not want to talk to them at all.
“Do you have any ties with the Inlustrus Clan? Have they not marked you yet?”
“What in the actual hell are you talking about?” Lucky shot back, finally angry enough to have an outburst with the line of questioning. She crossed her arms and stared down the detective as he continued to smile at her. A voice over the intercom called to the detective, forcing him to give up his line of questioning and leave the room. At that point, Lucky didn’t even know what time it was because she had been there so long. Even her own stomach was rumbling with nothing in it but coffee earlier that they provided. That was how she knew it had been hours since she had been there.
After sitting there for a few minutes, the detective came back in and the expression on his face was everything but the perfect facade that he had on earlier. His face was more stern and ready to pop should anything else go wrong. Lucky shifted in her seat uncomfortably after seeing him and the moment that he slammed his hands on the table is when she went into a defensive mode.
“You need to tell me everything! I know you’re holding shit back and I don’t have time to play nice with you anymore. You’ve been into the Inlustrus Clan’s manor, we’ve been watching! I need information on them so start talking or I’ll arrest you with obstruction of an investigation!”
“How can I be obstructing anything when you’ve literally told me that I’m here for my own safety?! Isn’t that like a felony or something? Get me a fucking lawyer, you prick and don’t ever talk to me again.”
Lucky spat back at him, chin raised and defiant. She stared him down as the minutes ticked by and finally gave in as he looked away at his watch. She kept her mouth firmly shut as he raged some more, hoping that he would scare her. However, it was one thing if she didn’t have a friend on the police force who didn’t already toughen her up to those sorts of things. Though, she did think it strange that he kept checking the time--calling out to see the status of something. If she could hold out for a little bit longer, whatever time that they were holding her on could possibly expire.
That all changed when they dragged her to a cell and locked her up. Lucky screamed and kicked the entire way, forcing them to manhandle her. A busted lip, mark on her cheek and what felt like a crack in her right fore arm later--she was deposited into the cell as the rest of them ran around like the building was on fire. Cradling her arm, she tried to listen in on some of the words they were throwing around. She couldn’t see too well but from what she could hear, there was some sort of threat that was making its way to the building and they had to keep it from entering.
The minutes flew by and Lucky wondered why the majority of the sounds had started to disappear. She didn’t notice that the air was starting to get colder or that there were less people around for her to hear. Just that it was growing quiet and the pain in her arm was getting more noticeable now that she had calmed down from her fight mode.
Suddenly, there was a bunch of screaming and yelling. Lucky craned her neck to try and see what was going on but the moment that her hand touched the bars, she yelped and drew back from it as it was ice cold. Eyes wide, she could do nothing but watch as it sounded like a murder scene out there with people yelling and screaming as they were cut down by something out there. Then just as quickly as it left, the silence soon settled upon the precinct again. A low murmuring could very faintly be heard as whatever stepped in seemed to be talking with someone else.
Cold started to creep into her bones, almost like someone had left a window open. Lucky huddled her knees to her chest, as if that would help but all she saw was one slender hand. One long fingered hand reached out and grabbed the bars, as if testing their strength. Her green eyes followed the hand up and she stared at another beautiful man. His eyes were that same golden hue that she remembered but they were almost like a cat as he gazed at her. She could see a bit of frost forming on the bars where his hand was, still gripping the steel.
“You are Leonora, are you not?”
He didn’t seem bad, despite the warning inside of her head. Everything about this man just screamed death, a fallen angel that was ready to guide someone into the next life. Lucky winced at the sound of her given name, signaling to the other that she indeed was who she was. The man stepped back for a second, looking up as one hand still gripped the bars. He sighed, looking like he would rather be anywhere but there. Sighing again, he suddenly gripped the door with both hands and grunted. Frost accumulated on the door and it groaned, making him sigh in annoyance. One more jerk and the thing came clean off the hinges with him muttering about making the youngest do this job and not he.
After propping the door up against the bars, the cat-like man reached inside his coat pocket for some gloves and put them on. Lucky watched this action, even jumping when the door came clean off with wide eyes. So last night wasn’t a dream, she figured. The man finished his grooming and held out a hand to her, staring holes into her face as he waited. He was as still as a statue, which lead her to believe that he wasn’t human. Not by a long shot.
“If you are waiting on a greeting, I suggest saving it for the younger ones. I tire of standing and being here. Your presence is being summoned. I won’t wait all evening for you.”
Lucky edged off the bed, still eyeballing him. Would this really be better than the ones that threw her in there? She could already smell the copper tang of blood in the air and with the tilt of her head, see a stray hand or two as it lay lifeless on the ground. Covering her mouth, she shook her head because why did she want to accompany a murderer? The man sighed again before letting his hand down and stepping out of the way, showing her that he would not block her exit. Carefully and cautiously, she edged out of the room and still eyeballed him to make sure he would not move an inch. Which he didn’t, by the way. Only his eyes watched her, impassive and silent.
“Why am I being summoned? Who are you...no. What are you?”
He gave a snort and finally moved, crossing his arms over his chest. Lucky didn’t have to look at him long to realize that there had been faint traces of blood around his mouth. She looked him full in the face before looking around him to see that the men were indeed dead and some of them had their throats ripped open. Her heartbeat quickened as she realized that he could be one thing, one that came out in the dead of night seeking blood.
A vampire.
Fear crept into soul as she took a step back from him, realizing that she was about two seconds away from getting eaten. Although, there were worse ways to go than to a handsome man if anything. However, she wasn’t about to try her luck.
“Ah, the reclusive Leo. What a pleasure to see you here.” Lucky whipped around to see another man there, an easy smile on his face. “I don’t see many of your House on this side often, I welcome you on behalf of my sire.”
The man called Leo still didn’t move yet the stillness suddenly showed a tense air, as if he was waiting to pounce. The other cleared his throat before continuing, “Ah yes. The woman. We shall have her taken care of and--”
The man never got a chance to finish because Leo reached out like lightning to grab Lucky by the arm, putting himself between them. She yelped as he ended up grabbing the arm that was hurt. The aura seemed to shift around him, going from a tense vibration to something else. It was almost like a black mist formed around him and armed themselves like daggers. He spoke one very firm No and the man backed up, eyes wide. His face showed anger and a promise that he would attack if he dared to come over. She needed to learn that skill, to make people quiver in fear with one word. With that one word, the man gave a shaky bow and turned tail to run like his life depended on it.
Lucky took a peek at Leo’s face and saw that it had returned to normal, back to the stoic form that she originally saw. Again, he held out his hand to her and turned his face away from her. He was murmuring again but she couldn’t quite pick up on what he was saying.
“You are not safe here... “
She looked back at where the man was standing before he left in fear. Maybe she wasn’t, after all. Chewing her lip out of nervousness, she finally gave in as it was against her better judgment. She took his hand, shocked to learn that it was cold even though the gloves. He looked apologetic for a split second before keeping his face under control again. With that, he swept her away from the gruesome scene.

Chapter 8- Devils
Who told you about a man without fear Who told you about a god who does not care Who told you about a pain that does not hurt Who told you about a love that turns to dirt

The mansion seemed to be even bigger at the beginning stages of the night, the darkness of the world that seemed to expand every nook and cranny. The sun was gone from the sky, its red remains still painting in the sky as the night was being ushered in quickly. They were there before she even knew it as her feet touched the steps leading up to the house. The house seemed to call to her again, whispering it's deja vu once again. Leo walked in front of Lucky, his long legs making quick work of the distance between them. She almost had to run to catch up as the gates were closed behind them, the first activity all day it would seem.
He made no attempt to keep her right beside him, as he didn’t need to. She only needed to follow him and stay quiet. Lucky’s danger sense was growing by the minute, unsure on what to do in this particular situation. She was at the mercy of these beings now, although willingly but still nonetheless. She didn’t even think that there were such beings in her small world as they had hid themselves perfectly into the world of Humans. Well, almost perfectly as the latest situations would show.
A creak of the giant doors and soon they were inside the mansion, warm lights greeting them as it seemed to come alive since last she saw it. Candles on the walls, unlit but ready to use. Mirrors that could be seen every so often along with the pictures, tapestries and other various decorations gave the mansion a homey feel. This was a place that a prince would live, royalty would stay and hold balls in honor of others that came to them in reverence. It looked so much better at night than the daytime with the details almost coming to life while the sun was down. Voices could be heard, laughing loudly and some actually swearing along with it. Leo gave a sigh and continued on towards the voices, beckoning her along with a slight tilt of his head. More than one voice was yelling something about how the other was cheating while another was laughing at the whole entire thing.
Upon entering the area, Lucky saw that there was more than one giant that she was looking at. There were three others there, two versus one and each one of them snapped their heads towards them the moment that Leo’s foot stepped onto the rug of the room. It was like each of them were owlets and their parent had arrived with their next meal, all of them suddenly stock still. She didn’t feel like she was going to be dinner until she saw the rest of them, eyes that gleamed a yellow-gold like a hawk. She paused for a moment, stopping dead in her tracks when they all looked at her and fell behind Leo as he made his way towards them.
That was it. She knew that even if she tried to make a run for it, they would catch up to her and she would be toast. Well done and crispy, not even having a chance to be burnt. She was in the den of snakes and there really was no going back. Lucky stayed where she was at, eyeballing the rest of them regardless. Leo walked right past them, pausing a split second to eyeball them himself before seating himself in a nearby chair like a grandpa who had been walking too much.
Lucky looked from him to the others that had been causing a ruckus, the number going from three to two. She blinked, swearing up and down that there was another one but she might have miscounted. But, as she kept her eyes on the two in front of her, the more that she felt like she’d seen one of them before. The taller one, with the angel face suddenly grinned at her while the other raised his eyebrows as he looked between the both of them. He had more of a puppy face, longer it seemed than the others and droopy eyes.
The feeling came back again, this time stronger, of calmness and security but she knew better. So naturally she fought the feeling that was now pressing down upon her, it coming from the droopy eyed one who was now turned to her fully and staring her down. Leo, from his seat, suddenly sat up and watched the exchange. The other beside him soon joined in, waves of intimacy and seduction rolling. The pair was meant to lull and awe but Lucky knew better.
“STOP.”
The word suddenly came from her mouth like she’d been waiting to say it for a long time. With that outburst, the feelings stopped as if they’d been snipped by a pair of scissors. However, Lucky had been leaning forward and when it had all stopped–she had fallen forward to the ground. She hit the floor with a thump, surprising the vampires in the room. She couldn’t quite tell who it was that started to snicker but only that it got on her nerves. Getting up to her knees, she rubbed her chin where she hit it on the ground and gave them the evil eye.
Suddenly the hairs on the back of her neck stood up with the surprise presence of someone else there. Lucky froze, thinking that she was truly finished but it was the third vampire that she thought she had seen. He had melded out of the shadows to take a simple inhale of her scent and to scare the daylights out of her. That was his plan since their elder had brought in a girl from the outside with hardly any explanation. However, what happened next was something even more surprising.
“Are you here for dinner?”
Lucky let out a scream, something akin to a squeak and threw her hand back. She ended up hitting the vampire in the face, more importantly the nose. He threw his head back, hands covering his face and yelled because which human in their right mind would rear back to hit a vampire? The two in front cracked up, almost doubled over with laughter at the scene while the other was on the floor as if he had been branded with a hot poker. She took that as her chance and took off, as stupid as it was but she had to try.
The result of her actions came crashing down on her as she ran because she had absolutely no idea where she was going. There seemed to be endless hallways with doors that went on forever and the soft sound of breath right behind her. It seemed to be chuckling at her attempts to escape, digits poking at her back to egg her on and making her scream more. Lucky threw open a door and was met with the tan, puppy looking vampire. He raised a hand and opened his mouth to say something but the shock of seeing him there suddenly made her yell again and throw the door back closed. She had accidentally closed the door in his face, the faint sounds of moaning coming from behind there.
She took off again, at the sound of chomping teeth and where she had ran upstairs, now was running up another flight. Now on the third floor, she could clearly see the living room and where Leo was still sitting there with the one she hit first. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up again and she suddenly felt a hand disturb her hair, making her whip around with a gasp. It was the angel looking one towering over her with a pout on his plump lips.
“Why do you run from me? Don’t you recognize me?”
Blinking at his sad question, Lucky realized that she did indeed know him. He was the man she spoke with at the party, right before the disaster of her throwing her drink at her former boss. The mysterious, handsome and rich man that many tried to get the attention of but only came to talk to her. She thought that he had nice eyes until she saw them up close right then, the sharp glare of gold that she couldn’t look away from. It wasn’t until she felt the railing behind her that she snapped out of it but not fast enough.
The man reached out and grabbed her left wrist, bringing Lucky closer to him with a gleam of madness in his eyes. He traced one long finger down her cheek, her eyes wide with fear as he did so.
“That was an eventful night, I suppose. Pity that Hyukkie got to you before me…” He took another deep inhale, almost shivering as he did so. Lucky didn’t want to chance and move while he did so, fearing that if she did that he would attack her. A whine, almost scream, suddenly filled the silence as someone downstairs was throwing a tantrum as he looked up at the two.
“Aw! C’mon! I saved her, why are all of you hogging her?! You’re so mean!” The captor looked up from Lucky’s hair to see the devil as he called him. “Besides! He’s on his way back and if he finds out…”
“If who finds out, Sanghyuk?”
The whole room seemed to freeze at the soft voice, praying that if they stood still that it wasn’t really happening. The only sound that could be heard was Lucky’s loud and frantic heartbeat as well as her breathing. Almost at breakneck speed, she was spun around and grabbed around the throat as well as her waist. It wasn’t enough to cut off her breathing but it was pretty damn close. She struggled, trying to free herself but was locked into an iron grip.
“I saw her first. She is mine..”
Lucky couldn’t help but look helplessly down at the newcomer and the rest who had gathered down there, with rather guilty looks on their faces. The new man had golden skin, even darker than the other and rather delicate features as well as a graceful air about him. It was like he was the Prince of the House and the others were his younger brothers. He sighed and put his hands on his hips as he looked up at the both of them.
“Jaehwan, let the human go before I become angry.”
He was going to resist the sweet words, Lucky knew it deep down. It was by the way he started to lowly growl, the vibration she could feel through her chest. His grip got tighter and it left her to gasp for air, fingers that were going to bruise where they held onto her at. He started to chant mine over and over, his voice not quite matching the honey that it was before. Leo stood up and walked in front of the leader, crooking one long finger. With that, she felt her body move on its own accord…..
…. Right over the banister, crashing through it.
Lucky felt herself falling, just like in her dream. Slow and through breaking pieces that surrounded her but the one they called Hyuk leaped forward to catch her. Once again, she found herself in the arms of the baby faced one, still grinning but this time with relief. Coughing and inhaling air, her vision swam as she faintly heard a roar and a scuffle. The last thing she remembered before fainting was the blurry vision of the leader, oddly like a dream as he looked down at her with the golden eyes everyone else had. A touch that felt like ice but burned like fire, smoothing down some hair and examined her throat. That was all she remembered before darkness took her.
That and whining about not getting to play with the human.

Chapter 9- Majesty
All the stars and galaxies address me as your majesty So better say your majesty, I might react erratically Throw you in a fire, purify you I'm the sire, my empire's on the rise

Once again, Lucky woke up in an unfamiliar bed but this one was different than the one she had previously woken up in. It was less fancy but still drastically luxurious than whatever she had known. The bed was still that impossibly soft material that she almost didn’t want to get out of with a few huge pillows. Her green eyes opened, trying to focus without her glasses but she could distinctly tell the color of gold that was looking at her.
She paused for a moment, letting some of the memories come back to her before drawing in breath and scrambling up. A huge hand slapped itself on her mouth before the scream erupted while the other hand clasped the back of her head to keep her in place. Hands scrabbled at the confines but they were ignored as loud shushes came from the man holding her.
“Hey hey! It’s me, Hyuk… remember? I was the one that saved you from those assholes? Look, if I let you go, will you promise not to scream? Ken and Leo are still sleeping while our master is in a bad mood. Hongbin and Ravi were too shy to let you sleep in their beds so I gave you my bed for the night.. or day.”
Lucky had to think for a moment, the name sounding familiar to her. She finally put a face to the name as she remembered the baby faced being that took care of the two guys that killed the man. She nodded slowly and inch by inch, his hand left her mouth as if he was scared she would scream regardless. Grinning, he quickly plucked up her glasses and gave them to her before leaning in to take a whiff of her hair.
Alarmed, she reared back away from him. Hyuk raised his hands up defensively and to let her know that he meant no harm, just barely containing himself with her there on the bed.
“Sorry. I couldn’t help myself. I’m still learning a lot of things when it comes to the whole vampire thing and it doesn’t help that you smell… really good. I don’t know why. Most humans have a stale smell to me. You smell like tangy flowers. It kinda sets my teeth on edge but in a delicious way.”
“I’m sorry.. Did you say vampire?”
The analogy about her smell aside, Lucky’s only thought was the fact that he had mentioned vampires which reminded her of when she was in the police station. So it wasn’t a dream, she realized with cold dread down the entirety of her spine. Hyuk nodded as if he knew what she was thinking, smiling before leaning in closer. She watched as the canines slid out like he was doing nothing but breathing. Before she knew it, she had edged to the side of the bed and when chomped playfully is when she fell right off the thing. Once again, she landed on the floor with a mighty thump and that prompted Hyuk to speed right on over to her. He picked her up, literally right up off the floor like she had weight nothing at all.
Squirming in his grasp, Lucky tried to get him to put her down since all she needed was a hand to get up. That and she didn’t want to be too close to the fangs that were still extended. A rush and the quick opening of a door could be heard, revealing the droopy eyed vampire she met last night.
“Oh hey! I--”
“What are you doing Hyuk?! He literally just told us not to feed from her, no matter how good she smells! What’s wrong with you? I can practically hear her screaming!”
Thus started the tug of war between Hyuk and the one whom yelled at Hyuk to stop. He had one of Lucky’s legs in his grasp while Hyuk had her upper body, the both of them bickering back and forth about what was going on. The noise soon grew and attracted the interest of another one. She realized that it was the one she accidentally hit, with the owl eyes. He came around, an annoyed look on his face as his owl-like eyes took in what was going on.
“You know that Ken and Leo are up now because of you guys..” He leaned against the door frame, lazily eyeballing the area. The vampires both stopped what they were doing, frozen to the spot. Eventually she kicked him in the knee, which prompted him to let her go. The tug of war episode was a welcome distraction despite what all that had transpired but the feeling of danger still didn’t subside, no matter how many times they insisted that she was safe with them.
And it didn’t help that she was constantly being chomped at or placed into dangerous situations when with them.
After going downstairs to see the rest of them, Lucky could still remember how close they got as she looked at them. She frowned as she got closer to the main floor, however she still stood way off to the side as a precaution against the rest of them. After all, she still didn’t know why she was there and what was going on.
She walked towards the living area, where there was a huge chair she didn't notice before. Lucky was met at the bottom of the stairs by two vampires that were familiar. They introduced themselves formally as Ravi and Ken. Lucky eyeballed Ken because she still remembered when he went berserk. He gave a wide smile at her, knowing what she was thinking. Ravi leaned over and poked him, shaking his head at the other. Ravi gave her a kind look, as if he was asking for her to forgive them. Lucky looked around the room, thankful that during all that mess–her glasses weren’t broken.
She noticed two more vampires, one being her savior from the police and the other that she hit. Ravi bent down to her ear, making her jump and introduced them as Hongbin and Leo.
“I believe we can all speak normally with that human around.” Hongbin sneered at them. “I hope the Prince gets rid of her, she’s done enough–”
He didn’t get to finish when Hyuk suddenly appeared in Hongbin’s face, seething. Lucky could see that he was angry as those words and honestly– she was too. She didn’t even want to be in this house with them, knowing she did nothing wrong. Before they could start fighting, a hum could be felt like someone had struck a chord on a guitar. It made the rest of them stand up straight and the hairs on her arms stand up. Leo and Ravi moved to stand next to the chair while the other two, Hongbin and Ken were standing behind her. As Hyuk started to move, his body seemed to go rigid and march directly in front of the chair, kneeling.
Lucky was about to go to him when another vampire came in. All of them saluted him as he walked in, graceful and menacing. He had almost golden skin, a bit darker than Ravi and his clothes complimented his skin. The black and red robes he had on almost made him look like he was gliding. Once he sat down, he looked at her–and smirked.
Hyuk’s face suddenly fell to the ground, causing him to give a start of surprise. That kind of extreme bow was pushing his face into the floor. He grunted as he tried to resist it but he could not move.
“I–I’m sorry but please don’t kill her! She’s my friend!” Hyuk begged from the floor, unable to get up no matter how hard he tried. “I’ll take full responsibility! Please!”
Lucky could hear Hongbin scoff at his words and before she realized it, she had marched over to Hyuk and tried to pull him back up. She tried with all her might but she couldn’t even get him to budge. A fire burned in her eyes as she glared at them all for not helping, Ravi looking away guiltily but the rest were stone still.
“And what would they do when they know he’s being punished? After all–” The leader stood up from his throne, the robes settling into place as he started to approach her, “Sanghyuk let a human into our world, almost blew the masquerade and he gave her blood to heal.”
He was directly in front of her face, bending down a bit because of her height. His golden eyes were in slits as he stared at her. Lucky was a bit taken aback by him, the soft voice coming from him but she returned the stare. He stood there for a few minutes, making her eyes water from the staring contest but he stood up and started to walk in a circle around her. His fingers plucked at the shirt she had on, the one Lucky had borrowed from Hyuk right before coming down.
“Lucky for you, there are circumstances that have my attention and you have landed yourself in the thick of it. Nevertheless, Sanghyuk must be punished because these deeds have been made to light.”
“Hyung.. Most of them were not caused by him-” Ravi attempted to say but suddenly he dropped to one knee with the force that would have broken his knees.
“Be glad that I’m not doing more..Wonsik. Not even killing this interesting human.” His hand brushed against her check, moving some of her hair but she didn’t move. He walked to the chair again and sat, his long fingers steeping in thought. A beep broke though the silence and Hongbin grabbed his phone, scrolling through something, Lucky noticed that all of them were suddenly focused on the vampire and when he looked up, he nodded. The leader started to chuckle before turning his attention back to Lucky.
“Well, then. It seems you really are fated to help us.” He remarked, turning his head to look at Ravi. He kept his gaze down and was still kneeling on the floor. The leader looked back and smiled, one that Lucky didn’t trust at all. “I have a proposition for you. You can take it or we will remove your memories properly. The alternative to that is death.”
“How do I know that you’re not going to go back on this? I don’t know you and as far as I knew, you never existed before today.” Lucky scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. He smiled even wider before appearing in front of her face again. He grabbed her by the jaw and lifted her up, her legs dangling. She ended up biting her tongue as that happened, the blood dribbling out of her mouth.
“I don’t have the patience to toy with you as some would. It offends me that you would cast me in the same mold as those other heathens that kidnapped you.” Dropping her, he leaned down to wipe that blood away –still smiling. “Oh yes, I know of everything that has happened to you these last few days. That is why I am offering you this, for protection.”
“You mean for another blood bag?”
“Well I won’t deny that you will have some use to me but that will be explained in the paperwork. As for now, you’re given leave of here. Try not to waste this chance.”
A pair of arms wrapped themselves gently around her and Lucky could feel herself becoming sleepy. She could hear talking but the muffled sound was growing dim along with her vision. As she succumbed to the darkness and was carried out by Ravi with Ken following, Hyuk popped up and thanked the leader, scurrying out.
Leo came up to him as well as Hongbin with concern in their eyes. He waved them off and soon was left alone in the room. He reached up and licked the blood off his hand, almost shivering as he did so. He had to use all his willpower not to give chase but instead he sat down, looking at his hand in wonder.
“Hakyeon, what have you gotten into this time?”
