Sometimes I go digging

for memories of you

inside my own chest,

the way an archaeologist

does for fossils.

You are more precious

to me in memory,

less dangerous,

the same way

a carnivorous dinosaur is

in a museum.

And I wonder

how many of us are still

carrying our love

as fossils in our hearts?
