UKRAINE What are the protesters’ demands? Who’s a better economic ally, Europe or Russia? That’s the key issue at the heart of Ukraine’s protests. Demonstrators want the government to forge closer ties with Europe and turn away from Russia. But the dispute is also about power. Many in the opposition have called for the ouster of President Viktor Yanukovych and the ordering of new elections. And both on the streets and in parliament, they’ve also pushed to alter the government’s overall power structure, feeling that too much of it rests with Yanukovych and not enough with parliament.
Who’s protesting? An opposition coalition has been leading the charge against Yanukovych and his allies. On CNN iReport, protesters and onlookers have shared more than 100 photos and videos of clashes between demonstrators and police. The nighttime images are especially striking — figures are silhouetted against large bonfires set alight in the streets.
When did the demonstrations start? In November, thousands spilled onto the streets after Yanukovych did a U-turn over a trade pact with the European Union that had been years in the making — with Yanukovych favoring closer relations with Russia instead.
What’s the latest? Long-simmering tensions exploded anew in Ukraine on Tuesday as clashes between police and anti-government protesters left more than 25 people dead and the capital’s central square on fire. A shaky truce agreed to late Wednesday disintegrated by the next morning, as gunfire erupted again in the square. At least 100 people have died and 500 have been injured since Thursday morning, the head of the protesters’ medical service told CNN. The Ukrainian government has not released an updated figure, but the Interior Ministry said earlier that one police officer was among the dead. Foreign ministers from Germany, France and Poland met with Yanukovych on Thursday and are to meet with opposition leaders too. European foreign ministers convened an emergency meeting in Brussels, Belgium, where they are considering sanctions against Ukraine.
VENEZUELA What are the protesters’ demands? Demonstrators are demanding better security, an end to goods shortages and protected freedom of speech. They blame Venezuela’s government, led by President Nicolas Maduro, for those problems. Maduro and other officials blame the opposition for the country’s security and economic problems.
Who’s protesting? Many demonstrators across the country are students. Prominent opposition politicians have also led protests and joined marches. Since February 13, more than 1,100 images have been uploaded to iReport, CNN’s user-generated platform. Many of the videos and photos are gruesome and depict violent scenes between demonstrators and police.
When did the demonstrations start? Nationwide student protests started this month. On February 12, the demonstrations drew global attention after three people were killed.
What’s the latest? As throngs of supporters chanted their support, opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez turned himself in to authorities Tuesday. Lopez remained in a military prison Thursday as the government pressed terrorism and murder charges against him, his wife said. Lopez has denied the charges, which are connected with violence during the protests. Maduro, meanwhile, has called members of the opposition fascists and compared them to an infection that needs to be cured. Officials have also accused the United States of plotting to destabilize the government.
THAILAND What are the protesters’ demands? Protesters in Bangkok have been calling for months for the ouster of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who they allege is a puppet of her billionaire brother, the deposed, exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Who’s protesting? Opposition to Thaksin and Yingluck is strongest among the urban elites and middle class. That’s why the demonstrations have been concentrated in Bangkok. The protesters want to replace Yingluck’s government with an unelected “people’s council” to see through electoral and political changes. Thailand residents and visitors have shared dozens of stories of unrest on CNN iReport over the past month. The latest approved photos show demonstrators sleeping in the streets in Bangkok as a form of peaceful protest.
When did the demonstrations start? Protests began in November after Yingluck’s government tried to pass an amnesty bill that would have paved the way for her brother’s return to the political fray.
What’s the latest? Deadly violence erupted in the heart of Bangkok on Tuesday as anti-government protesters clashed with police, and the country’s anti-corruption commission filed charges against the Prime Minister.
Harlowe is born the day his mother dies. He is breathing for the first time while his mother breathed the last. His father doesn’t hold, but his brother does, and he calls him Lyra because he thought Harlowe sounded like a lyre when he cried for the first time. His brother teaches him many things, he taught him about the kingdom they lived in, about the royal family, about how there is war always in the eastern front, how the oldest prince is always in the battlefield, about how the king had stopped caring for the kingdom, how kind the second prince is, how quiet the third prince is, how Harlowe should speak with elders, how to fight, how to be honorable and how to always stand for justice; these were the things his brother taught him.
His father is home only twice a year for three weeks, the rest of the days months his father is fighting as a soldier in the eastern front. Whenever his father comes home, he brings gifts and teaches Harlowe how to be a good soldier for the prince. His father always wore the colors of the royal family proudly, the color of gold and purple but his brother always disapproved with his father but never spoke out against him. After their father has left his brother would tell him, ‘Don’t worry. After him I will be given his position in the army. So, don’t dream about fighting, dream about everything else. Leave the burdens to me.’
As older he got clearer the world he could see. He could see how his father did not arrive during the time he was supposed to, he saw how hard his brother worked to pay the taxes that were on them relentlessly, he saw how there was barely enough food on the table, he saw how everything was slowly falling apart and how helpless he truly was.
Harlowe, like every other boy in this world, falls in love, only he doesn’t realize that it is love. She was beautiful, she was everything that he never thought he needed in his life, she was everything that kept him awake at night wondering how he survived so long without her. She slowly became his friend, his partner in crime to drive his brother up the wall, his most trusted person after his brother, his equal. She saw him in his highs and lows, in his anger and in his frustration and she still chose to be his friend. She was his equal in all aspects and when she spoke- forget butterflies, the whole forest came alive inside of him.
Then the thing that brought chaos arrived and it brought destruction to everything Harlowe had ever loved. The war on the eastern front was won, but the oldest prince was dead and so were a number of troops, then the king died after killing himself and the second prince ascended the throne. While the royal family threw a party for the celebration for the new king, Harlowe didn’t have it in him to be to be happy for anything. Because his father was now dead and his brother was given a post in the capital so now, they would have to leave to serve the king there. He would have to leave her. When he departs from her, so many things in him die and he feels that nothing would be right again.
Harlowe is fourteen when disaster strikes again. After a few years of apparent peace, the youngest prince rallies troops against the king and dethrones him in the palace at the middle of the night, the king flees but his followers get stuck. The new king is ruthless. He crowns himself as the High King, and anyone who supported the previous king is killed or arrested. The people who won’t swear fealty to him are sent to camps where they have to remain until they die. He throws the rich out of their homes, kills the corrupt, and destroys any form of perversion in the kingdom. He promises equality for everyone in this kingdom, he says that everyone in this kingdom should earn their place and even his ministers would be treated like everyone else and all he asked in return was peace and submission. Equality in all aspects, those had been his words. He utters these words while he stands next to the throne of this brother and father while still covered in blood from the massacre that had occurred that night.
Harlowe would have loved the King, if not for what happened next; Harlowe’s brother came to him the morning after the rebellion, telling him to pack his things so that they could leave. Harlowe’s brother had done something against the new King. The door to their small house is broken in and his brother shakes him and tells him to just survive. Harlowe knew that his brother had personally served the previous king but he wishes his brother would just kneel and beg when the guards force him to the floor and the High King demands something from him. Some truth, what it was, Harlowe did not know. His brother refuses to depart the truth, even when the King himself breaks Harlowe’s arm. His brother dies while looking at him and the King throws the sword his brother had carried at him. The King looks at him and asks, ‘Well?’ and Harlowe kneels and begs for his life and the King allows him to join the army. Harlowe has always been quick witted, he might seem like a coward for begging the man who killed his brother. But in the end, he will be the reason for the fall of that man.
Now years later, Harlowe stands before the man who killed his brother, he smiles while guards force him on his knees, his mentor- someone he had trusted- lies dead a few feet before him, he smiles as the executioner raises a sword against him. He smiles because he knows that even now, even if he kneels, he has won. Then it all goes black.

The Court of Creek Cottage, or alternatively The Curse of Creek Cottage, is my only vampire story. Which is kind of strange, considering how much I like vampires, but anyway...
Kaia Tesser lives in a big mansion under the thumb of her father. In fact, the whole family does. She isn't the smartest of them but the only one who feels compelled to object to her fathers tyranny against the family and, in deed, anyone who he has dealings with. When she meets a strange man in the park on her way home from the job she took in town pretty much just to spite her father she spies another opportunity to rebel. However, she soon realises that maybe she has gotten herself into something that she won't get out of that easily.
It was already dark when Kaia got to the park. She stopped and contemplated whether she should take her usual shortcut. In the distance, on the bench where the lamp post was broken, she thought she saw someone sitting. Or maybe it was just a shadow. It would take her almost half an hour more to walk if she didn’t take the short cut. Then again, what was half an hour to staying alive? “Oh come on,” she said to herself. “You’re being stupid.” She jogged down the steps and walked briskly along the path. When she got closer to the bench under the broken lamp she saw that there was indeed someone sitting there. Hunched over with their face in their hands. Her stomach started screaming “Abort! Abort!” and scenarios of horror films started playing in her head. She could see her mother in her head, crying over her coffin “I told her to use the car!”. She hated that car. Well, she couldn’t really hate the car, it was just a car that her father had bought her when she’d insisted to get a job in town. There was nothing really wrong with the car, apart from it being huge and massively expensive. It was just the way people looked at her when she drove it. Now she could see that the person sitting on the bench was a man. He was wearing a dark green army style jacket and track pants, but the black boots he was wearing seemed ancient. They looked like they had buttons in them or something. She’d never seen boots like that. He looked distraught. “Trap! Trap!” her stomach screamed and she automatically slowed down a little. She stopped. “What if he needs help?” she asked herself. He didn’t seem to have noticed her yet. There was still time to turn back. “Run away! Run away!” her stomach screeched. “No,” she thought. “If I am to die trying to do good then I will accept it.” So she took the remaining steps towards the bench as confidently as she could and sat down. “Hey, are you okay?” she asked, doing her best to not sound like she expected the next thing to happen being someone jumping out of the trees behind her with an axe and splitting her head in half. The man had clearly not noticed her at all because when she spoke he jumped up with an unearthly shriek. She jumped to him where he crouched on the sandy walkway, shaking like a terrified animal. “I am so sorry,” she gushed. “I was just trying to be, you know, neighborly, or you know, like, friendly, like, cause you looked like you were sad, and, and, I am so so so sorry…” He let out a deep sigh and let himself fall backwards onto the walkway and lay there flat, like he was about to make a sand angel. “I’m sorry,” she tried again. “Yeah, it’s fine,” he replied. His voice was hoarse so he cleared his throat. It resulted in a coughing fit. “Are you okay?” As she inspected him lying there she noticed that he was missing the index and middle finger of his right hand completely. Her brain immediately started concocting up stories. “Hmh, that is a good question.” “I mean, sitting on park benches at night with your face in your hands is very not okay looking, you know?” He chuckled. “I suppose.” “So, are you?” He sat up. “Do you really care that much?” “I don’t know. I kind of worked myself into a panic thinking you were a serial killer and then I convinced myself you might need help and then I scared the life out of you and I’m kind of invested now.” He smiled. “Yes, I’m fine. Everything considered. Just very tired. When I get home and rest a little I’ll be right as rain.” She decided that the everything that he’d considered was none of her business. “I’m sorry I startled you.” “Thank you for having compassion.” The knot that had been in her stomach since she stepped into the park melted away at that word. Compassion. How many times had she thrown it at her father just to see his face screw up in contempt. It was right down there at the bottom of the contempt pit, along with charity, equality, socialism, and anything else that implied he’d have to give any regard to other people or let go off his precious money.

Tell us a tale!” The Queen beamed as she strolled into her children’s impressive boudoir, made out of only the finest, most exquisite elements. “What tale would you like to hear tonight, my dears?” The children glance at each other and snicker slightly, “Tell us how you became Queen!!” The Queen raises her eyebrows in shock, “Why would you want to learn about that? I see my busy bees have been doing their research about the monarchy?” The Queen reaches over and ruffles their hair up. “Mhm!” They reply, smiles bright on their faces. “Okay, my little smart cookies. I’ll tell the tale. Our tale begins in March of 1895, the Queen had just thrown a big birthday ball for her only son weeks before…”
The ball was magnificent and festive, striking colors all throughout. And the birthday boy, Prince Johnny J. Suh, clad in the fanciest royal suit anyone had ever seen! He looked dashing, breathtaking even, all of the princesses from different areas wanted him. Yet, he rejected them all. He yearned for a soulmate, a lover, someone to deeply connect with, not some stuck up princess who only wanted him for his dashing looks and riches. He simply refused to dance with anyone and kept to himself the entire night, his night.
Towards midnight, when all of the evil stepsisters had gone to wipe off their hideous makeup and abuse their Cinderella at home, the Queen furiously stalked up to her son, and she slapped him. “What the hell is wrong with you? Johnny J. Suh, I did not raise you to turn down such beautiful women a chance to become your Queen! How am I supposed to trust that you’ll rule our land well when you’re father and I are gone?” He looked down at his feet and quietly grumbled, “It’s not like you really raised me at all.” The Queen almost missed his snarkiness with how quiet he was. Almost. “What did you just say to me? Do not ever disrespect me again, boy, or so help me God-” He grimaced and held his hands protectively in front of his face in annoyance. “I got it, Ma, never disrespect the Queen.. yada yada.” He walked away, getting in the horse carriage designed to take him home. He looked at his mother one last time, who looked at him with swirls of disappointment in her brown eyes, and the horse rode off into the night sky.

Hobie Brown had a plan from the beginning
So a little while ago I saw a post that said that Hobie's biggest weakness was that he quit the Spider Society when he did (I can't find that post so I won't link it). I don't really agree with this.
The thing about Hobie Brown is that he knows the value of community. Obviously, we don't get much back round about his personal life in the movie so I'm going to go off of the Spider Punk mini series.
I'm this run Hobie is homeless. He lives out of a van and a community center in Brooklyn (he's originally a New Yorker) but he's not alone. He lives and/or works with a bunch of friends: Captain Anarchy (Karl Morningdew, E-138's Captain America and a gay native american man), Riothart (Riri Williams, E-138's Ironheart), Mz Marvel (Kamala Khan), Hulk (Robbie Banner), Daredevil (Mattea Murdock, in E-138 she is a blind punk drummer in Philadelphia) and other unnamed characters. So even though they switched up his backstory in the film I still belive that he's not alone in his home universe. Punk culture, anarchy and communism are all about building community and helping others.
Honestly I think thats why he's part of the Spider Society in the first place because he obviously does not agree with anything their doing. He's there because he knows they will recruit vulnerable teenagers who don't have the support that he does. Thats why he takes Gwen and Pavitr under his wings I think (to make it clear Hobie is also a teenager that needs support he's just uniquely positioned to give it in this situation because of his background but he is still very much a teenager.) He also knows that sometimes the best way to take down the system is from inside of it. He's gonna play along till he can take them down.
I think it makes perfect sense that he "quit" when he did. At this point Miles knows Spider Society is really fucked up, he knows his dad is gonna die in two days and he's made it clear that he will not go quietly. Hobie knows all of this and trust Miles to have everything handled. I think that he also knows that when Miles escapes Gwen is going to be disillusioned by the Spider Society and get sent back to E-65.
So he trusts both Miles and Gwen to be able to handle themselves for the moment, but because he knows the value of community when organizing he also knows that they can't do it alone. So he quits (like he always knew he was going to). He knows that the best use of his time and skills right now is to make sure they have everything they need to oppose Spot and Miguel when the time comes. We all know he made at least two watches (he had to have made one for himself as well) but I think that he was also recruiting the rest of the band at the same time.
The only other main spider besides Gwen that we see in the chase scene is Peter. We see Penni that one time during the confrontation scene but not again. I think that he was finding Pavitr, Peni, Noir, and Ham. I think he knew that Gwen would probably go to Peter first. He probably knew when she activated the watch he gave her and brought everyone else to regroup.
But Margo was also in that final shot and Hobie would not have had enough time to recruit her between Gwen being sent back and the final shot. I think they have been working together behind the scenes this whole time. When Miles sends himself back, sure at first she didn't know what was happening, but when she saw Miles in the go home machine she kind of froze. She is looking right at the controls for the machine and there is an option to shut down. She doesn't press it. She could, but she didn't. She even tells Lyla to get out of her way, probably because she doesn't want her to interfere too much. She may have known she was gonna help him escape before that scene even happened. Once that was done she could get out and regroup with Hobie and the rest.
So ya I don't think he's a coward for quitting when he did I think he was really smart. We know he plans and excutes political actions in his home universe. Actions that could defiantly end up with him or others in jail. When planning things like that you need to be smart about it, often times for particularly dangerous things no one has all the information till the very end, of course he'd keep it a secrete. Even from Gwen because she's still not ready. He's not a coward he just knew how to best utilize his and everyone else's skills. He knows when he needs to be in the background as opposed to the front line.
