Thanks for the tag, @frostedlemonwriter! Let’s get right into this!

1. What was the first part of your wip that you created?

Ariel, the MC, and her magical girl persona, Blue Moon

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

Probably Abnormalize by Ling Tosite Sigure. The MCs, Ariel and Solana, are both considered disposable by the world they’re in, and they have both been forced to stay quiet about their problems by the main villains, Viceroy Steadman/Orpheus and his wife Chardonnay/Eurydice, who have caused said problems. I think the song captures the feeling of having to stay quiet at all costs, and having to protect yourself by burying your true feelings

3. Who are your favourite characters you've made? Why?

For this WIP, definitely Ariel and Solana. Ariel is a lot of fun to write—She’s a hot mess, but she’s also insanely good at what she does (Game development), and she has the confidence of an 11 year old when talking to Solana. Solana meanwhile, is someone I think that a lot of my target audience will relate to—She hates her job more than anything, and is desperate to get out of it, but cannot afford to quit because she wouldn’t be able to afford her apartment otherwise, and her roommate Myrna is unemployed, so she’s having to support her financially as well as herself. She’s an adult magical girl with way too many adult responsibilities.

4. What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?

Percy Jackson seems obvious—The magic system is based on the Greek titans, and the titans Phoebe and Theia, as well as their nephew, Hades, mentor Ariel and Solana throughout the story. I can definitely see Night Of The Blue Moon appealing to grown-up Percy Jackson fans looking for protagonists who are their age, and dealing with adult problems. Also—Hear me out on this—The OG Miraculous Ladybug. I’m not talking about the current series, I’m talking about the version in the PV, which was originally meant to be for older teens/adults. I’ve taken some ideas from that PV and applied them to Night Of The Blue Moon, those being a love square, with both of the MCs in love with each other but being oblivious to each other’s secret identities, as well as the idea of the heroes being urban legends who fight in the dark, and no one knowing that they exist.

5. What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?

Figuring out the magic system. I had to scrap and rewrite it three times before it made any semblance of sense.

6. Are there any animals in your story?

None, except for Ariel’s pet cat, Dia

7. How do your characters get around?

Ariel and Solana can jump great distances and heights when transformed, but when they’re not transformed, they use cars and public transport like everyone else

8. What part of your wip are you working on rn?

Chapter Six! It’s a pretty explosive chapter, as Solana has just realised that she has a crush on Ariel’s superhero persona, Blue Moon, meanwhile Ariel has a crush on Solana, and is trying to get close to her. While Solana is looking for information that could help her and Blue Moon defeat Orpheus, she finds out that Ariel was SA’d by Orpheus’s son, Brooklyn three years ago at a party, which led to her dropping out of university.

9. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in?

There’s a slow-burn romance with Ariel and Solana, complete with a love square when their magical girl identities are thrown into the mix. Ariel is in love with Solana, but Solana is in love with Blue Moon. Also I think adult magical girls are something people have been wanting to see for years, and now I’m making that happen.

10. What are your hopes for your wip?

The same hopes I have for The Tengu And The Angel, my debut novel. I want it to sell well and I want people to like it ^^

My questions were:

1. What was the first part of your wip that you created?

Danika, my protagonist.

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

Duvet by Boa an Alt-Rock band from the mid-to-late 90s. I recommend everyone check them out. Her vocals are so ethereal toward the end.

3. Who are your favourite characters you've made? Why?

If you just mean this WIP, it will be both Danika and her bff Alice. Danika because I find it hard to distinguish her from having bipolar disorder, or is this stuff actually happening to her, ya know? As a sufferer of BPD I've always wanted to write a character with it. While Alice? Heh, Alice in Cyberland.

4. What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?

Well, a very obscure anime called Serial Experiments Lain highly influenced this story. But, I'm not entirely sure. I don't think about it a lot. To be honest, I always just tell myself that no one will like what I do, and history kinda shows this. So I write for myself. No idea what fan base I'll have.

5. What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?

I don't really struggle with it too much.

6. Are there any animals in your story?

Not really. It takes place in Seattle 2049 where it has become the biggest city on the continent. Not many animals here.

7. How do your characters get around?

Danika takes the relatively new subway system. Alice drives herself, mostly.

8. What part of your wip are you working on rn?

Chapter two! Where it starts to really unfold.

9. What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in?

As I mentioned before, I don't expect many people to want to read my stories. I mean, I think the most views I have on substack is 25? Which is awesome and I love every single one who reads my stories. Yet, compared to those who regularly have hundreds of views on their stories? Yeah, so I dunno.

10. What are your hopes for your wip?

What is every writer's hopes? That someone will read it and enjoy it.

1. what is the strangest event that has happened to you so far?

Finding out that the titans and the gods are real. Not only that, but they also gave me a magic circlet that allows me to use Phoebe’s powers. It was a good kind of strange, though. I’ve wanted to be a magical girl ever since I was a little kid, and now I am one.

2. If you saw a random portal open up, would you jump into it (time would not change in your original universe, so you could explore as much as you wanted)

Depends what’s in the portal. Last time I jumped into a random portal, I ended up on the bank of the Styx.

3.) What’s your ideal coffee/drink? Anything caffeinated, except for tea or coffee. I practically live on chocolate protein shakes.

When was the last time you watched the stars? I don't often get that much time to myself to watch the stars overhead of Gala. However, when I get the opportunity for a night quest in another dimension, I occasionally glance up to see if the sky differs from the one back home. It's a smaller part of the job, but I love those little opportunities.

Have you ever listened to the spirits? Other than the spirit that follows Zen around constantly (Ren is ever the talkative one,) I don't often hear spirits from around Gala. most of the time, they are only briefly visible before being taken away to The After, or, if they stick around, they just don't want to talk. Soul Sight is pretty useful at times... but I can see my father's point of it being a curse sometimes, especially when I end up being too late to bring someone home...

Do you see what waits? Though I know it exists... I'd rather not pay attention to it. if a person or event is waiting to do... something, I'd rather handle it in the moment than know ahead and panic about it. I have too much to do day-to-day... id rather not put anything else up on that plate. my question for the next writer's OC's: 1. what is the strangest event that has happened to you so far? 2. “Notice Me, Reader!” Tag Game

Rules: Share 3 (or more!) small details from your WIP that you feel have gone/will go unnoticed. (You can choose whether or not to share why the detail is significant!)

Here's some for the Steph adventures:

I’ve actually been meaning to write a detailed post about this, but Stephanie and Bret mirror each other in a lot of ways. They’re both pretty traumatised and flawed, they both crave attention and connection to a certain degree, hating the feeling of loneliness, and they both have a capacity for being quite selfish, impulsive and hedonistic (as well as being major fans of instant gratification). This is partially why their affair storyline is so significant and impactful the more you think about it (and to think, it almost wasn’t going to happen…). An example of their connection that often goes unnoticed is that their dialogue has a bit of a parallel… in the beginning of book one, Bret says something along the lines of “Grades don’t actually mean anything in the real world when you think about it.” This was back when he hated school, before his whole self growth arc and wanting to change his life for the better. And towards the end, Stephanie basically says that same exact thing, almost word for word (despite disagreeing with Bret at the start of the story). It was in the context of her and Ben contemplating leaving the country together right before sitting her final exams. There are other small examples of parallels between their two arcs and thought processes in the story, too… many of which actually existed before I even wrote their affair storyline. Perhaps it was always meant to be lol.

I tried to write my characters in a way where you can kind of tell which parent they take after more. This is one of the reasons why I have the parents and family members be such a prominent part of the story - big part of who you are stems from your environment, and this includes the people you are surrounded by. It also adds a bit of mystery to our main protagonist… Stephanie doesn’t know her parents, so we don’t know why she is the way she is (like, we even know why Bret is the way he is, despite the fact that his parents are no longer around. He remembers his parents and we get a strong sense of what they were like, and this is something we don't get with Steph). A big example of this is Elise and Adam. Elise takes after both Maggie and Paul (maybe Paul a little more than Maggie) - she shares her mother’s drive and determination (comes in handy when you’re a lawyer), and her father’s empathy and intuition (comes in handy when you’re a therapist). Adam takes after Maggie, as well as his grandmother to an extent, in terms of his natural creativity (he has a heart of gold, but he is also very stubborn and prefers to do things his way. Whenever he gets pushback, he fights harder in the opposite direction. Very much like his mother… not that Maggie would ever admit that. Good thing both of them grew out of it somewhat after becoming parents! And by that, I mean she was much worse when she was Adam’s age lol). There are other examples of this in the story, but this one’s my favourite.

I got a fair amount of inspiration from the shows I mentioned in my intro post lol (plus Gossip Girl, which wasn’t included in the post. That's where I got the secret blogger idea from. Speaking of... I was meant to reveal that to you guys ages ago. Sorry about the delay lol. Saving that for a proper future post alongside the Bretanie analysis). Especially Bojack Horseman. I don’t know if I want to elaborate on this point… I think it’s more effective if you check out the shows for yourself, and see what I mean that way. But to give a vague little example of what I mean… Stephanie is sort of in and out of the crew’s lives, and whenever she’s not around, the others tend to thrive and live relatively peaceful, normal lives. In many ways, she’s the root of a lot of their drama. She does a lot of crazy things that cause damage to a lot of people, and she wrecks a lot of her relationships beyond repair. And throughout the course of the trilogy, the main crew members often find themselves wondering whether they should stay loyal to their friend, set some boundaries with her, or cut ties and separate themselves from her completely. Kind of like in a certain show (Bojack). They all take different approaches to this, each saying a lot about them as characters (Elise, for example, decides to cut Stephanie off. May seem out of character at first, but then you remember that this is after ages and ages of being patient and understanding with Steph… as well as everyone else who has hurt her immensely in her life. That makes her choice to end her friendship with Stephanie a little more understandable… she reached her last straw in book two), but they’re all better off once they reevaluate their relationships with one another.

I didn't mean to write so much... but what can you do.

"How Cuddleable Are Your OCs" Tag

I'll go with the cast of Song of Thorns and The Forgotten Ones (the WIP, which I finally named, that I talked about in this post)!

SONG OF THORNS

Roselyn - It depends on her mood! If she is happy and generally in a good mood she gives the best hugs! But if she's upset or tired she prefers to be alone. 7/10

Renn - If you are someone he loves and trusts, 8/10 best cuddle buddy in the world, but is physically cold like ice (vampyrs, and thus half-vampyrs/dhampyrs are cold-blooded, literally, they are poikilotherms). BUT if he doesn't know you then 1/10 will stab.

Kane - Surprisingly, Kane loves cuddles. But he is far too introverted and often too harsh to let anyone close enough. If he somehow miraculously trusts you enough, the cuddles will be the best! He also wears soft clothes, and fur cloaks and smells really good (like a mix of flowers and firewood) 9/10

Orianna - Too restless and energetic to stay in one place for too long lmao, wouldn't have the patience to stay cuddling for more than 5 minutes. 3/10

Jasen - Is the kind of ambivert who needs to be around people he loves to recharge. Loves cuddles, especially close to the fireplace and with two cups of herbal tea and chocolate. 10/10

Alaric - Eh. Doesn't really mind, but doesn't really want cuddles either. Is more of a "just staying together in the same room chilling is enough" kind of person. 5/10

Tarrant - NOPE. NOPETY NOPE. Tarrant doesn't like prolonged physical contact and has a lot of reasons why he doesn't really like to cuddle for too long. Likes hugs, but that's as far as he'll go when it comes to physical contact. 1/10

Aiden - Likes hugs and cuddles, but is super chill about it and understands that Tarrant has reasons not to like that kind of affection. Will only hug you if they really, really trust you. 6/10

Cyriel - Looks like she could kill you, secretly wants all the cuddles in the world. Unless she's in a bad mood, cause then she just might get a little stabby. 7/10

Dimya - Loves cuddles but falls asleep halfway through and moves a lot while sleeping (a.k.a whoever is cuddling him has a 50% chance of accidentally getting hit by a rogue elbow every 5 minutes throughout the whole night) 5/10

THE FORGOTTEN ONES

Arzhel - Too mistrustful and too paranoid to let anyone he doesn't know extremely well too close, and is generally not that big of a fan of physical affection as a whole, though he may cuddle with his brother or a very close friend if they seem to be in need of a hug. 5/10

Elodie - Loves cuddles and hugs but loves it a bit too much and is a bit too lonely. May not let go until it is almost concerning but means no harm. Constantly cuddles her adoptive siblings 7/10

Aisling - Claims she's too busy raising a revolution against an Inquisition to have time for hugs. Secretly too cuddle deprived and needs one badly at this point. 6/10

Daragh - After what he went through under Magister Emmerick? Do You Have A Death Wish? If not, don't try to hug him. It would be best to keep to polite conversations and handshakes only when necessary, for both of your sakes 0/10

Finnian - Loves cuddles, has plenty of fluffy blankets, and smells faintly like vanilla cologne because hygiene is very important to him. Overall best cuddle buddy 10/10

Vivaldah - Hasn't had a cuddle in way too long and probably would feel awkward to ask for one. Too worried about etiquette and revenge to consider the need for a cuddle. 4/10

SUPERNOVA INITIATIVE

Jack - Gives the best hugs! He loves to cuddle while watching a movie, with blankets and hot chocolate (he always has bottles of hot chocolate ready because it's his favorite beverage lol) 12/10

Cassiopeia - Mostly cuddles with Jack, because he's her older brother and she feels safe with him, but as she learns to trust their friends a bit more she sometimes, on rare occasions, can be found cuddling with Artemis or Vesper (though the latter would never admit it) 8/10 - Likes to receive cuddles better than to give them.

Deimos - In the past? 9/10 best cuddle buddy in the whole galaxy. Right now? After all the hell he has gone through and all the wrongs he's done and the pain he's caused? 5/10 probably feels too guilty to let anyone near him and thinks he deserves to be left alone after all he's done.

Vesper - 3/10 More machine than human - because she is a cyborg, she has updated most of her "human self" into robot parts. This means she is mostly made of metal and servos, sentient, tactile metal but still metal (though she does have some artificial robot skin over it, the metal can still be felt). So kinda tough to cuddle with. Either way, she is probably way too murderous to let most people get even close to her. Cassie is an exception because Vesper finds her endearing (she reminds Vesper of someone from her past she wants to protect).

Aleks - 8/10 Likes cuddles, loves hugs, but is probably too anxious and jittery to be in one place for too long, and will worry the entire time if the other person is "comfortable enough."

Pax - 10/10 Will try to cuddle you if you let him. If you don't he will respect it but be a bit sad. Mostly he just wants a friend to spend quality time with. And to get lots of cuddles.

Ethean - 6/10 Eh. It depends. As a fighter pilot he doesn't really have the free time for most things and usually prefers to spend what time he has doing things he considers "productive". Probably feels he is wasting precious time any time he stops to relax and the Impostor Syndrome anxiety kicks in. Can be persuaded to receive cuddles by the right people though.

Artemis - 7/10 - Wants to pretend he is tough and that he can handle anything alone and thus that he "doesn't like to hug" to uphold the Edgy Reputation. In reality, melts at the first sign of kind physical affection and will spend hours cuddling, if its the right person (Cassie, who is his girlfriend).

Noctus - "What are 'cuddles'? What is the meaning of this? I am confused, unhand me this instant human -! Oh, wait, I kinda like this. This is nice... Stay, I like this." Is how I imagine the interaction would be like 8/10

SUPERNOVA INITIATIVE

Deimos Soll

About: An infamously silver-tongued assassin, sniper, and mercenary known for being unpredictable and always having hidden intentions, Deimos is Jack and Cassie's former crewmate and first childhood friend, turned rival, turned begrudging-friend-again. Deimos is the most successful and deadly sniper in the whole galaxy, feared even by the Junction at his full potential.

Badly/Funny Summarization: Essentially a young, alien, 'space opera' version of John Wick with extra angst and a very questionable moral compass

Lyorna Alyrii

About: A young and optimistic freedom fighter from a water folk of a faraway planet in the Khosmonian galaxies who believes in a freer future for her people and an end to the oppressive regime of the Junction. Focused and brilliant, Lyorna wants to uphold her father's legacy and bring peace to the galaxy. She becomes friends with Jack Tithus during his crew's mission on the Khosmonian galaxy and later on they become each other's love interest.

Bad Summarization: An overly optimistic, too-precious young adult who should be protected at all costs and has almost no plan for anything at any given moment in time and should not be left unsupervised.

Noctus

About: Though his full name is classified and unknown to the cast, his reputation precedes him. He is the single most successful special forces secret agent currently in the employ of the Junction - he has never failed a mission, never missed a target. And he always follows orders, always obeys the rules. However, is everything about him what it seems? A forgotten and suppressed part of his memory may prove that the system he fought so dearly to uphold may have actually made him into their perfect living weapon, and there may be many other lies yet to be uncovered

Bad Summarization: Twenty-something secret agent done with everything and everyone who only wanted to have a simple mission and ends up 'adopted' by the gang of misfits he was sent to supervise.

SONG OF THORNS

Tullieh Aerlys

About: The undefeated and steadfast commander of the Guardians, who protect the Mountain Elves' hidden kingdom and keep outsiders from discovering their land. Tullieh is a serious, no-nonsense young man to whom duty and honor mean everything, due to a personal grudge against humans, especially those who hunt mythical beings, he will do anything to honor his vow and keep his people - especially his younger siblings - from being found by outsiders, even if it means being ruthless and unforgiving to a questionable degree.

Bad Summarization: Traumatized ancient teenager who grew up way too fast and should never have been given a gun and a sword under any circumstances, but has both of those things and a lack of self-preservation instincts to make everything worse.

Renn Atrius

About: A foreign noble from beyond the royal lands, he was forced into the lifestyle of a thief from a young age, after being orphaned when his father, a Vampyr, was murdered for refusing to obey their neighboring kingdom's crown. Learning the art of disappearing into the night and taking valuables from the land that took everything from him and colonized his nation, Renn quickly became quite the nuisance for the King. But thankfully to his connection to raw blood magic, his slight vampiric abilities ensure no human soldier ever proves a real threat to him.
