Obviously (hopefully-) this is still a work-in-progress/ever growing list of things, and I will continue to go fishing through VODs for more clips during the MCC break, but for right now this is what I have gathered. ROTTMNT Theory: Donatello's Hidden Role

After rewatching ROTTMNT (shorts and movie included), I realized something about Donnie's character that I've hardly seen anyone mention, and I'm going to talk about it in depth here.

I'll assume you've already watched the series and dive right in, but spoiler warning under the cut in case you care about that.

Let me start with something seemingly off topic. Raph is the oldest of the four brothers, which landed him the responsibility of keeping his younger siblings safe when their father was unavailable. (Not trying to bash Splinter. He's gradually grown to be a better parent later on, but you can't deny he was fairly neglectful in the beginning of the series)

The constant pressure Raph went through was brought up in the episode "Anatawa Hitorijanai", and then the movie showed he still struggles with it now.

He's constantly shouldering the burden of being their family's sole protector, but is this the truth? What if I told you there are actually two protectors in the family? And that the other one was Donnie all along?

When you look closely, Donnie is surprisingly protective of his loved ones. I did a tally of how often each brother exhibits what could be protective behavior, and Donnie was in second place (29) after Raph (35). Some of these choices are debatable, but here's a bunch of examples as pictures.

Would you believe me if I told you I still have a couple smaller examples I had to leave out due to the picture limit? And that's not even including the few moments where Donnie and Raph ever-so-subtly parallel each other.

All things considered, Donnie and Raph aren't so different. Raph is the primary protector who faces the threats head-on with his physical strength, while Donnie is the secondary protector who tends to use more distant methods with his tech and wit. However, when push comes to shove, Donnie will also step up to take direct action when he deems it necessary.

They may be the brains and the brawn, but they both use their respective skills to defend and support their family.

The Silver Shift Knob There is nothing more significant between Din & the Child, than the silver shift  knob.

When the child first focuses on the bright shiny object , he sees it as some form of goal. A beacon if you will. 

He goes for it .

 When he’s trying to consume it, eat it, like kids do , and Mando takes it saying “That’s not a toy “ 

 , the child clearly is hurt by it.

And it’s made more heartbreaking as Din picks him up and puts him back in his crib . His ears turned down and the clear tears welling up in his eyes is our first inclination that the child feels so hurt .

But it’s also a clear indication of Din fighting his emerging feelings . He wants to turn around , and almost does. But he tries to maintain his cold persona . The kid is just a bounty 

. He knows if he looks at the pain in his face .. he will break. Jump forward .. it is the same silver knob that triggers the change .

 Sure we saw it when he watched the child float from sight as he collected his payment . 

Sure we knew when he asked what would happen to the child that there were stirrings there. Sure we knew when he told the Stormtrooper “Easy with that”.. when he grabbed the floating crib roughly . But it wasn’t until he was back on the Razorcrest and he reached for that lever that he realized … 

THAT HE MADE A MISTAKE. That he cared . He has fought caring for so long .

 And now .. it was back .. Full Force . He went against the empire .. he is now on the run … for this child .

And the first thing he does after rescuing the child and they are back in his ship.. is give him his silver shift knob… WITHOUT HESITATION.

After helping the prisoner escape and delivering him in episode 6.. the first thing he does is unscrew that silver knob.

.. and gives it to the child.

That silver knob is the symbol of their connection . And now that the child has Din’s Mandolorian necklace  … the child has another “heirloom” of his “Father’s “ shift as a man.

Din is not just caring for this Foundling out of duty , or because the child would be dead or lost . He clearly understands and wants the child to always understand and know , that he loves him .  It’s so sweet . 

It’s so weird right now cause I feel like I’m reading Darth Vader comics to cheer myself up because his grandson’s ending was much more pessimistic than his. Like “oh yeah Darth Vader the villain in the Skywalker family who had a hopeful ending” instead of the all-our tragedy with Ben

Same, lmfao. Because at least Anakin had a life before Vader, kids and a padawan and a mentor who was like a father to him, and he’s vindicated at the end of his life with a Jedi funeral and a ghostly reunion with his loved ones. At least there’s actual catharsis. And Anakin, during his dark side years, leans into it much more than Ben does. Anakin is a tortured soul too, but he’s much better at burying this than Ben, and he expresses a lot more agency than Ben does. His fall comes across as a hero failing because of a crucial fatal flaw, whereas Ben’s comes across as him straight-up being born under the wrong star and suffering for an original sin that was never his.

And Anakin at a certain point (esp. in the current 2020 issue and the 2015 issue) reaches critical mass and starts scheming against Palpatine and expressing a sort of fucked up type of agency, whereas Ben himself, being a person who his whole life has really only wanted acceptance and safety, convinces himself almost until it kills him that Snoke “is wise” and a good father to him. Anakin wises up quite quickly that Palpatine is a snake after he falls to the DS. Ben’s fall not only feels much more out of his control, but much more innocent. Anakin wanted to save his wife, which is an adult fear. Ben was betrayed by his caretaker and is trying to find a safe place, which is a child fear.

So if you watched Quackity’s stream last night, you may have heard the suggestion to go check in on more streams from multiple CCs on the Dream SMP, especially if you feel there’s been some lull in the lore!

But a lot of times, people stick with their comfort streamers and don’t branch out to find new CCs because it’s not what they’re used to!

As someone who watches nearly every CC on the Dream SMP, I thought I could create a little guide to make it easier for you to find something new to try out!

If you like Tommyinnit’s streams, for example, loud and boisterous with excellent video game soundtrack jams in the background alongside impressive improv lore and very funny bits, try CaptainPuffy!

Puffy is very interactive with her chat, plays lots of fan-made music for the Dream SMP during her streams, and likes keeping a very close eye on Tommy’s lore to keep up on what’s happening with him. She often interacts with Badboyhalo, Antfrost, Sam, Eret, and Michael Mcchill, and does lots of light-hearted funny bits with them! She was heavily involved in the Eggpire lore and has ever-developing individual lore about being a pirate that’s slowly unveiled over time, and she’s responsible for a lot of cool and funny builds on the server! She’s very entertaining to watch, whether she’s doing serious lore or just goofing off! Go give her streams a try!

If you like BadBoyHalo’s streams, often calm and chill with lots of running jokes that maybe get a little chaotic at times along with some cooing over cute things (namely Rat), try DropsbyPonk!

Ponk keeps a fairly chill atmosphere during streams with good ol’ pranks and jokes thrown in everywhere! He interacts a lot with Foolish and Sam, and isn’t afraid to cause some chaos on the server (and in his chat)! He’s also a genuinely sweet guy, and has created really interesting lore regarding some characters from an early episode of Tales from the SMP. He’s been on the server since nearly the very beginning and is responsible for some very bizarre but memorable builds on the server (Thiccatron anyone?). Go give his streams a try!

If you’re a fan of Ranboo’s streams, filled with semi-lore around every corner and the far-too-common Angst™, mixed in with lots of dumb jokes while mining or building for several hours at a time, and the occasional bizarre tune (lemon demon 4 lyfe babey), then try Foolish__Gamers!

Foolish likes to stream for several hours at a time, has a thing for chiptune and 8bit remixes for his background music, and tends to create devastatingly beautiful builds and maybe occasionally goes a bit nuts or does a funny little Shift Dance™! He interacts a bit with Sam, Ponk, Ranboo, and Puffy, and lately had been dealing with both serious and light-hearted lore involving Badboyhalo and Skeppy. He recently joined Las Nevadas with Quackity and will be helping with some builds there, too! His more serious lore has been very introspective and angsty, involving his hidden past! If that interests you, give his streams a try!

And Foolish is also on a short vacation right now so if you’re waiting on his return or already like his stuff and want a recommendation based on his streams, go check out The_Eret!

Eret has been around on the server since the L'manberg independence stuff started, and while they’re often remembered most for their role as a traitor, they have given some interesting moments of individual lore that have come up more recently, as well.

Eret often does very calm, chill streams to quiet lo-fi tracks and likes to use shaders to get glorious shots of the Dream SMP like no one else ever has. They help maintain builds and even created a museum along the Prime Path that’s dedicated to the history of the server, keeping things updated as often as possible. They read through their chat a lot and are very comforting to watch stream, even late into the night. Eret interacts most with Puffy and Foolish, sometimes doing funny bits but mostly sticking to grinding for resources and building. Go give their streams a try!

If you fancy yourself a Tubbo fan, whether that be the semi-lore that quickly dissolves into pure chaos on his main, or the awesome rap & hip hop playlists he jams out to on his alt, you might wanna check out the SMP’s newest member, Michael McChill!

Michael may be new to the Dream SMP but he’s no novice. He’s been a regular in MCC, and was on previous SMPs like SMP Earth and SMPLive with people who are now on the Dream SMP! Most of his streams involve a lot of goofing off, where he’s interacted most with Puffy, Sam, and Badboyhalo (aka the late-night crew, for now). He’s getting familiar with the server right now, since he’s still new, and he listens to a lot of rap & hip-hop tracks from people he knows! He has a fun mascot named Alesa who chimes in on what’s happening in the stream on occasion, and has had some bizarre lore so far involving him being a simp for Dream? (What?) He’s got a very fun vibe, cracks a lot of jokes, and his laugh is delightful. Give his streams a try, because you won’t regret it!

Next, I’d say if you’re a fan of Philza Minecraft, whether that be his hardcore world streams or his constant building and training streams on the Dream SMP, with great music always playing below it all, maybe go give Niki Nihachu a try!

Niki listens to some banger alt & indie music during her streams, and maintains an underground city she built herself for others on the SMP to use! She does some intense and emotional lore, and is part of the Syndicate with Technoblade, Philza, and Ranboo! She interacts most with Jack Manifold & Ponk at the moment, both of whom use her underground city, as well as the Syndicate during their secret meetings!

Niki has a very calm and comforting voice and is very supportive with her chat, and she likes to explore around and gather resources but doesn’t stream for too long at a time. She also plays on other servers and participates in cool events, all of which are fun to watch and support! Go give her streams a try, too!

There are many CCs who stream on the Dream SMP and they’re all worth checking out! Hopefully this helped a little bit, and if you have any questions about what to expect from any other specific streamer, just ask! I should be able to help!
