No Place Like Home

No Place Like Home

bnha Warning: Angsty, kinda gory? Happy ending Requested By: @wolffamilygang Request/ Prompt:  Can I request an Aizawa x quirkless female daughter reader? Like the reader have been in the army and helped across the world? And then something happens making her lose her right arm, but it was replaced with a metal arm kind like Bucky from Avengers. And she comes home after years and surprises her dad at school and he’s crying and just so happy to see her again?

No Place Like Home

The gentle humming of the train's motor rung through the carts, as Y/n leaned her head back against the vibrating walls. While her eyes were closed, she could feel the looks people were giving her.

It was always a mixture- depending on where she was people could either be thankful and polite, or they could be disgusted by her. It hurt, it does hurt, but she has grown stronger, and she knows better than to let it get to her.

After a little more than four years, she was granted FEL, or Family Emergency Leave. When she finally heard about the attack, she was worried that it would be too late. Y/n was used to her father's calls, emails, and video chat’s, and it shocked her when they didn’t come in; but she figured it was just because the school year was in full swing, and he was busy. She can still remember when she was told what happened.

--------

She and the platoon she was acting as Platoon Sergeant over had just gotten back to base after facing one of the worst days of their lives. It was rough, and they were all tired. Y/n had headed straight to her tent, and she sighed at her makeshift work desk- they had lost great soldiers and close friends that day.

She doesn’t have to try too hard to see her Commanding Officer standing outside of her corners. It wasn’t unusual for the two of them to sit together after a rough day, they often needed the other to bounce back. Y/n knew the letters of condolences had piled high that day, and she would need her friend there for her.

“Permission to enter, Sergeant Aizawa?”

“Permission granted, Commanding Officer,” she sighed and shifted over to the edge of her bed.

Aaron had been Y/n’s saving grace throughout her four years. They had met during her basic combat training, while he was on stand-by with the rest of his platoon.

They were almost nothing alike, but that’s why they got along so well. Still, it wasn’t hard to see just how much they relied on each other. That’s why his silence was so suspicious when he entered, he was always there to make her feel better, but he couldn’t bring himself to smile.

“Aaron,” she shifted on her blankets, growing awkward with the uncharacteristically quiet room, “are you okay?”

“I don’t know how to tell you this,” he had sighed and scratched his neck. He can remember the conversations spent at two, three, four am, when they talked about their families- what they had going on at home.

Bak in japan, everyone had such high expectations for her. She was the daughter of an A-tier hero, and she was supposed to live up to that legacy. And then, she didn’t have a quirk. As much as she tried to not let it show, it hurt too much, knowing that she would never be the kind of hero her father was.

So, she joined the army. It had evolved a lot since quirks were developed, but apparently, it was still a quirkless-dominated field. While it shocked her that a lot of her fellow soldiers had no quirks, it was a great comfort. Other countries seemed to have the same diversity, so it was never a heavily weighted difference, with the exception of what had happened earlier that day.

But being in the army, going through the ranks, it was an amazing feat of satisfaction, and Y/n loved every second of it. No one she met had heard of her father, no one could judge her, no one was superior in anything other than rank.

It took less than two months for Y/n to grow completely addicted to her new life. The adrenaline, the rush, it was a high that she never experienced before, and she was hooked.

In two years, tragedy struck. The platoon she belonged to was faced against a Q-soldier army. Meaning that this fight was weighted against them. One of the quirk holders was a man who was deranged, in every sense of the word. His quirk presented itself as an emitter quirk, where he produced an aroma that incapacitated the enemy, but in reality, it was much darker.

He had approached her first, as she laid on the ground unable to move, but still very conscious. He stalked toward her like a wolf that had blood dripping from its mouth. As he crouched down next to her fallen body, he grabbed her arm and the entire platoon heard her scream, as it was torn from her body.

They had barely made it out that day with most of their soldiers, one of their own Q-soldiers had shown up, and they were able to clear the way for the group to escape.

Y/n had been carried away by her Commanding Officer, who she knew as CO Kelly. Later on, after being whisked away by the medical practitioners in her base, she learned to mourn the loss of her limb. It was bittersweet, as her metal arm gave her many abilities, but with it came insecurities.

She had been crying herself to sleep for a week until her Commanding officer came in to comfort her. He stayed by her until she had dealt with the trauma as well as she could have, and she even started to accept the foreign material. During those times, the two grew closer, until Commanding Officer Kelly was just Aaron, the black-haired, blue-eyed boy who whispered his hopes and dreams t her in the dead of night.

After the tragedy, she bounced back and quickly rose through the ranks thanks to the metal attached to her, which made her stand out among her peers. It wasn’t long until she and Aaron Kelly were working closely together, he as Commanding Officer, and her as Staff Sergeant.

They knew almost everything about each other, it was important to have something to hold onto out here, it’s easy to get lost in the fighting, in the blood. If you weren’t careful, you’d lose yourself- everyone had seen it happen before. That’s probably why they never let the other stray too far from their sides.

Aaron had sat next to Y/n on her bed, and his breaths were uneven and forced. It was worrying to see her friend so stressed, so Y/n reached out, and she placed a hand on his arm- only to feel exactly how flexed and stressed he was.

“You can tell me anything you know, I’ll always be here for you,” She said, trying to ease his anxiety.

“It’s not about me,” his eyes darted around the room, never staying in one place for too long, “It’s about your dad.”

---------------

Y/n would have usually blushed, as she remembered how she had sobbed all over her best friend; but her concern for her father kept her from something that frivolous. Her father, the unbreakable hero, had been hurt so bad that they were letting her go to him. It was scary, and she only hoped she would make it there in time.

The stares on her had lightened up by the smallest bit, but she had to crack her eyes open to pinpoint where the glare was coming from that held her by its death-grip.

She looked around until she spotted a green-haired boy sitting across from her. He blushed hard and looked down when he realized he had been caught staring.

“I-i I’m so sorry! I swear I wasn’t, I didn’t mean, I know I was, I’m so sorry!” He rushed through his words, tripping over them as they fell off his tongue.

Y/n raised an eyebrow at the young boy, and she couldn’t stop the laugh that came out as he tried to explain himself. “So, what was it?”

“Huh?” He stopped and looked at her with confusion in his eyes.

“That had you staring,” she explained, “Was it the uniform, gender in the uniform, or the metal arm?” She asked, moving her fingers up and down after referencing her arm.

“Huh, none of them I don’t think,”

“Oh? Is there something I forgot about?”

“Well,” he was scratching the back of his neck and blushing, “I was just wondering what cool quirk you have if you’re in the military...”

Y/n has absolutely nothing to say to that. Should she be flattered? Upset? Should it bother her that she’s back in a place where that’s all people worry about? Should she be overjoyed that she’s proven herself through the uniform?

She noticed that he had tried to phrase his response as a question, and he seemed to have a notebook open to a blank page, ready to write.

“Sorry to burst your bubble kid,” she sighed and looked at him, “but I don’t have a quirk.”

This boy’s face lit up when she said that, and it was a total 180 from how she thought he would react.

“You can join the military if your quirkless?” He asked with a bright, shining smile and eyes full of hope.

“Of course you can. Why, do you not have a quirk?”

“No, I don’t! Err- rather I didn’t until recently,” he awkwardly tugged at his shirt.

She looked at him, making sure she didn’t misjudge his age. “You’re quite the late-bloomer huh?” She commented, deciding he couldn’t be younger than in his last year of middle school, but he was most likely a highschooler by now.

He nodded in response, but he looked like he had a question.

“What’s up now, kid?” she asked, sighing at how much time she had left on the train.

“It’s just... is your arm why you got discharged?”

Y/n eyes snapped up to him, and her glare was enough to make him rigid in his seat. “I’m not discharged, I’m visiting family,”

Her glare froze him in his seat, and it was almost like he couldn’t more. Only after her eyes had moved away from him had he released his breath and calmed down.

“Sorry ma’am..” he whispered and looked down.

“Hey kid, I’m really sorry, I really didn’t mean to snap at you like that,” she said, honestly upset at herself for letting that happen, “I’m just really stressed right now, but you didn’t deserve that.”

He seemed to perk up at her apology, and it was almost like the whole situation just rolled off of him. “Don’t worry about it!”

“Oh, it looks like my stop is coming up,” Y/n checked her watch, and she stood up to grab her duffle bag of necessities that was stored overhead.

“Huh, mine too!” He said, swinging his bag over his shoulders.

“You’re what, sixteen?”

“Uh, yeah, I am,”

“And it’s Tuesday, so you should be going to school right now, right?” She asked, hoping this highschool student was maybe of a rival school and could point her in the right direction to get to UA.

“Yup! Why do you ask?” They both walked off the train, and he walked alongside her keeping pace.

“I’m on my way to U.A. academy, do you know how to get there?” Y/n grabbed her phone out of her duffle bag, and she checked her notifications for any messages about her father- nothing was there.

To say she was worried was an understatement, but no news is good news, right? She hadn’t gotten a call from the doctors or her uncle, so he wasn’t dead, or would they just not tell her?

“Huh?” He tilted his head to the side as he walked, struggling to walk with her, “Yeah, that’s where I’m going now,”

“Great!” Y/n smiled at him. This coincidence would make her life so much easier.

“We’ll be there in like, three minutes. Class starts in fifteen, so I’ll probably be able to walk you to wherever you need to go before homeroom starts,”

“Thank you so much- wait, what’s your name?” She stopped walking, recoiling for a second.

“Oh! I thought I already told you?” he thought back, trying to remember if he had or not, “Eh, not like it really matters! My name is Midoriya Izuku! Nice to meet you!”

“Hi Midoriya, people in my squadron usually call me Sergeant Y/N- but you can just call me Y/n,”

---------------------------------

“Thank you again, so much for helping me Midoriya, I would have been lost without you,” she said, smiling at the young boy who had guided her to the nurse’s office. If she knew anything, it was that her father was much too stubborn to go to the actual hospital, claiming it was ‘irrational to spend the money’, which- while it has some merit- proves the point that people without quirks are put at a disadvantage.

“Anytime, Ms. Y/n! It really was no big deal,” he mumbled and scratched the back of his neck, “I should really get back to class now, but it was nice meeting you!”

“Bye, Midoriya,” She said, before opening the door to be greeted by a friendly face.

“Do I need a stronger prescription, or is that little baby Y/n?” An aged voice that had no fragility to it called out, as the woman looked up from her computer.

“Hey Shuzenji, it’s been too long,” Y/n said, leaning down so she could wrap her arms around the shorter woman.

“Last time I saw you, you didn’t have all this muscle, your hair’s different too,” She commented, stepping back to fully take in the sudden appearance. “How’s your father? I assume I’m not the first person you’ve visited,” she asked, sitting back down.

“My father?” She pauses and looks around the room, “he’s not here?” Where is he? Is he at the hospital? Home? Is he worse, better? Is he in the hospital? What happened?

“You know Shouta,” She complained and went back to typing on her laptop, “He won't stay away from his students a moment longer than he needs to. Though, I assume he won’t need to be so dependant on them know that the real you is here,”

“Real me?”

“Oh love-bug, your dad loves his students, but it’s my personal theory that he holds so tightly onto them; because he can’t hold on to you,” she said, looking back up into Y/n’s Y/E/C eyes.

“He’s teaching already!? He can’t be fully healed yet!” Y/n was well aware of quirks limits, and there was no way even Emergency Girl could have healed all of her father's wounds.

“You’re right, he’s teaching- but he can't use his quirk. I have him all bandaged up,”

“Thank you Shuzenji, I really missed you,” Y/n turned and started to walk out of the office.

“Oh, and lady-bird? I love you, welcome home,”

“Thank you,”

--------------------------------------

Y/n had been staring at the door handle of classroom 1-A for the past ten minutes, and every time she thinks she should open the door, she wonders if it would be better if she just waited until lunch break. But, it was only 11:12, and lunch is held at 12:45, so she would be standing there for well over an hour.

Should she go to visit other people? Would that be rude? Y/n came to see her father, but if he was busy then there shouldn’t be anything wrong with waiting as to not interrupt him.

A sudden ruckus from inside snapped Y/n out of her trance, and she grabbed the handle with her forever cold hand. What would he think when he saw it? How would he react?

She knew that, if a fight broke out, her father couldn’t do much to calm the students, but she had always been particularly good at defusing situations. She swung the door open, but with all of her military training, it came as no surprise that she made no sounds.

Inside the class, she saw a blonde boy standing with his palms up, and tiny bombs were coming out of them. He was yelling at a boy with familiar un-ruley green hair. And there, standing at the podium looking very frustrated, was her dad. He hated not being able to do anything- not being able to protect is students, and it really showed.

“Shut up and sit down,” Y/n snapped, like a dog biting viciously while threatened. As soon as the angry boy saw her glare, he stopped talking and sat in his seat, not muttering another word.

“Y/n,” Aizawa’s raspy voice breathed out, and he all but lunged himself at her. He collapsed against her, and his face was buried in her shoulder. Sobs are freely escaping him, and his body shakes every time, as all of his pent-up emotion is released in bursts of tears.

“I missed you so much,” he says, his voice is slightly higher than usual, and Y/n wraps her arms around him, lightly rubbing up and down his back.

“I missed you too dad,” She said lightly, afraid anything louder might break him.

He pulled away, and he put a hand against her cheek. “My princess, you're home,”

Y/n smiled and started to cry, as she sunk her face into her dad’s hands. “I heard you got yourself in trouble. You should know better, old man,”

they both laughed, and they both cried, and the entire class was very freaking confused.

They pulled back from their hug, and Shouta grabbed a hold of his daughter’s hands. He was planning on saying something cliche, like ‘they’re rougher,’ or, ‘they’re still so small,’ but instead, as his fleshy hands met the clod counterpart, he couldn’t catch himself before asking, “What happened to you?”

“I fought the bad guys,” Y/n said, quoting her dad- any time he would stumble into the house, at three in the morning, a younger, terrified Y/n would ask him what happened. And he, in his bruised and bloody state would say the same phrase every time.

“Did you beat them?”

“Of course,” she responded, remembering this conversation with roles reversed. It was a strange circle of life- and she wasn’t sure if it was something she enjoyed or not.

“You’re perfect, and I’m so proud of you,” he said, breaking down into tears again.

They both sobbed, and their shoulders shook slightly less violently this time.

A loud man with large hair had caught wind of the news, and he was quick to run through the halls, “Heeeeeeyyyyyyy! I heard the UA pro-de-jay is back home!” The birdlike loud mouth yelled, sliding a bit passed the door.

“I’m here checking on dad, but yeah- I’m home Uncle Mic,”

Aizawa held her in another hug, “You’re home,”

“Sooooo I guess it’s actually Sargeant Aizawa then,”

In The Absence Of Heart

Mha B. Katsuki x Reader 14+ : Alcohol, angst, breakup

In The Absence Of Heart

If there was one think Bakugo was amazing at, it was breaking Y/n’s heart. She sat at her vanity, brushing out her hair from a long day at work. “When will you be getting home tonight?”

“Uhh,” He trailed off, finishing his tie inside their walk-in closet, “not sure. It’s a business dinner though.” Bakugo walked out and his eyes swiped past her. “Don’t wait up.”

Y/n looked at him slipping on his expensive black shoes next to the door and tried to find something to say. “Good luck.”

He left without looking back at her.

The corners of Y/n’s eyes pressed together, her tongue starting too feel uncomfortable within her mouth. With a shake of her head- as if ridding herself from thoughts anxious monsters whispered to her- Y/n turned to the kitchen.

She sat at the stool beside the island of their apartment for an hour, not moving. When she stood she couldn’t feel the soreness in her legs, only a desire to drink the wine stored for a rough night.

She crouched down, opening the wine fridge and taking it from its place. Opening in, Y/n sighed as she filled the expensive wineglass halfway. Glancing up, uninterested in the clap of thunder, she saw the rain pouring through the glass window leading to their balcony.

Bakugo used to sit with her every night on that balcony, side by side until he got cold- or maybe noticed her shiver- and he’d pull her into his seat instead of going inside. They talked about everything: work, friends, memories, the future.. all of it.

She closed her eyes and, for a second, they were on that balcony. Clad in comfy sweaters close together, his hand drawing circles on her thigh while she read. For a second, they were together.

Y/n scoffed- she can’t remember the last time they sat on the balcony together. She grabbed the stem of her wine glass and walked out from behind the island towards the living-room.

She paced slowly, admiring the wall of pictures added through the five years of their relationship. They’d started dating senior year of high school. Now, out of college, Y/n wondered if she made the right choice.

She ran her finger along the image of herself wearing high school graduation robes, surrounded by her friends. Everyone looked so happy then. Taking another step she saw a picture of a post-high school getaway. Most of the class was there, and Y/n was sitting between Ochaco’s legs during a movie night, watching the horror movie- Denki’s choice if she remembered correctly. She looked for Bakugo in the group photo, only to remember he was the one who took it. That’s why I’m at the center of the picture, she mused- taking a sip of wine, cute.

The other photos were from Y/n’s first product launch after graduating college- top of her class. She was a hero item specialist, working primarily with elemental quirks. She shook her head, remembering the jealous glare in Bakugo’s eyes after picking her up from another consult with Shoto. He had wrapped his arms around her waist as soon as he could. If she tried hard enough, she could feel his ghost lingering around her body.

She breathed out and opened her eyes, walking past the photos from their vacations together- blissful and in love. She stood outside the balcony door, her finger smoothly crossing the glass. However long she stood there for, hours had passed since Katuski had left the apartment.

As if haunted by her own ghost, Y/n opened the balcony door. She walked evenly outside, each step the same length as the last. The chill wrapped around her instantly, covering her in it’s bitter embrace, this feels familiar.

She sat down in the large, wooden, patio chair. Her hands sat in her lap as she pulled up her feet, tucking her knees together to the side to curl in on herself. Five hours since he left- she looked at the wine glass- when did I fill it again?

She pursed her lips and took another sip of wine, watching the rain fall. One of the perks of living in one of the highest apartment buildings in Japan was the view. Her eyes absorbed the landscape as best as she could, trying to etch it into her memory. Maybe this will comfort me, she mused, for what’s to come.

She ran her palm across her face, rough and determined. She pulled out her phone and searched through her recent contacts, until she had to switch over to the contact list and dial his number.

“Where are you?”

Bakguo paused, hearing her voice. It was so soft and fragile- like an angel. “What about you?”

She muffled her sniffle- “I’m at home,”

He tried to picture her in his apartment, but his brain just couldn’t see the image as clearly as he used to. “I’m just getting in a cab.”

“Are you almost home?” Y/n shifted her knees to be against her chest.

Bakguo looked around the bar he was sitting at, nursing a glass of whiskey. “I’m sorry.”

Her eyes widened, she shook her head as the corners of her lips pulled down. “For what?”

He clenched his eyes shut, his hand tightening around the phone in pain. “Just..” his noes scrunched up, “everything.”

Y/n thought of him for a second, thought of his voice which was rough and so emotional, or his scent of that burnt sugar everyone thought was so peculiar. Or maybe she could feel his arms wrapping around her again. “Just come home safe.”

He shook his head, his hands falling from his face- “I left my wallet there.”

Y/n flinched, tears prickling her eyes to mirror the rain falling from the sky.

“Uh-”

“Hey-”

Their voies cut into each other. Her will diminished “Never mind.” Her throat was filled with the butterflies escaping the massacre in her abdomen.

“No, tell me.”

Y/n clenched her eyes shut, tears still falling anyway. She tried to catch her breath but her heartfelt like it was being pierced by her ribcage- is that possible? Her breath out became more of a cry than a breath.

Bakugo winced at the sound, drinking as much whiskey as he could in one sip. The sounds surrounding him faded, as his focus was only on the phone call, his own heart starting to beat harder.

“I don’t think we’re in love anymore.”

There it was. Bakugo’s eyes clenched shut, as she became all he could see. Her hair fanned out on his pillow, her hand hidden inside his, her crinkled noes as he peppered kisses across her face, her scent that lingered around the apartment, he became surrounded by her.

“We can’t,” Y/n’s voice broke as she spoke, having to clear in to continue in a harder tone, “we can’t fix this, Katsu.”

Everything was gone now. His crimson eyes starred down at the bottom of glass and raised his hand for another. He’d go home late, he decided. Give Y/n time to do what she wanted to without him breathing down her neck.

“So this is it, huh.”

The words were sandpaper sliding up his throat, ripping him to shreds.

She looked at the skyline, “Yeah.”

Bakugo came home at three in the morning, taking in his apartment. He looked around, seeing some items gone from their home. Her favorite mugs, a few pictures, the blanket she got as a graduation gift, all gone.

He walked into the bathroom- not even a toothbrush was forgotten. His heart began to beat into his throat as the alchol left his system- panic welling up. Turning to the bedroom, which was the same except for the vanity table, and the walk in wardrobe, which was now more empty space than clothes. He slumped down on the bed, breathing in.

Her scent lingered in the apartment for three months, in their bedroom for four, and her pillowcase for five.

Six months gone and they’ve not spoken.

Bakugo sits at his island, looking at the storm outside through the glass doors leading to the balcony.

Strange, he thinks, how i’ve not been out there in what feels like forever.

He stumbled as he walked, speeding up only to slow down again. He didn’t hesitate when he made it to the glass doors, stepping outside.

Bakugo turned to the wooden chairs and table, sitting down and looking at the place they used to spend hours together in. A piece of paper, curled from drying after being exposed to the elements, rested there. He touched it delicately, as if it would disintegrate in his hands.

Y/n leaned forward in her chair, taking a sip of wine and writing her message.

“Thank you for giving me this view, I’ll never forget it.”

Shoto clenched his eyes shut, his left hand gripping the phone to his ear and his right desperately clutching his clean white dress shirt, bunching up the fabric over his heart.

“Who do you think you are Todoroki?” Y/n’s drunk voice slurred over the phone. “What gives you the right to- to- to-” she hiccups and starts to sob.

“I’m sorry Y/n/n,” His voice is strained and painful, his heart breaking into pieces.

“How could you?”

It’s been five months since it happened- Since Shoto asked Momo to go on a date with him. “I didn’t know,” he whispered, leaning over his marble bathroom sink as tears stated to fall from his closed eyes, “I didn’t know.”

Five months and still, Y/n calls him whenever she’s drunk. Five months and she still cries, still screams, still destroys herself.

“...Y/n?”

The sudden silence that fell over the line which was usually filled with sobs and shouts was more alarming than anything she could have said.

“Was it,” she paused, “am I really that hard to love?”

Her voice was the most sober he’d heard since their fight- the clarity in her tone shook him to his core. The wobble in her voice broke his heart.

“No,” he cried, before coughing to strengthen his voice, “No it wasn’t you. I just-” he shook his head at the memories, “I just didn’t know.”

There was another pause of silence, “How could you not know?”

Todoroki had been asking himself that very same thing for five months. How could he not know? She’d loved him since freshman year- his Y/n loved him for six years and he couldn’t tell.

She’d been so open about her emotions, so caring and supporting with everything he did, and he just... didn’t realize it.

He looked up, glaring at his disheveled appearance in the mirror. “I was an idiot.”

Shoto Todoroki was in love with Y/n Y/l/n for all of high school, but when college came around he gave up on the idea. She was bound for greatness, she deserved someone who suited her temperament, not a friend from childhood that couldn’t match her newly founded maturity.

“I’m sorry,”

Y/n’s voice was soft and sad, her words bounced around in her chest before she let them escape from her lips- a newly found emptiness followed. She knew what she had to do. “Y/n-”

“Goodbye.”

For the first time, she was the one to end the phone call.

In the end, Shoto never got another call from his childhood bestfriend. In fact, he heard nothing about her until he saw the photo on his Facebook UA alumni feed when he was sitting in his office months later.

Y/l/n Y/n raises to Koreas top 3 hero list after only one year- is this foreign hero Korea’s new heroic legacy?

Mina had shared it- showing that she hadn’t cut off everyone, maybe only him. He looked at the photo along with it- two side by side. One had Y/n in her hero uniform after a successful mission, caring for one of the injured children. The picture on the right had her in a beautiful dress, receiving an award from the head of the Korean Hero Association.

The familiar pain in his chest welled up again- his eyes shut and he clenched the mahogany desk. Why does it still hurt so much? She’s happy, Y/n’s happy- He looked at the photo of him and Momo that sat on his desk- but was he?

      QUIRK: Soul Beam

The summer before high school was a fever dream that Y/n never wanted to wake up from. The sweat sticking to her skin was only ever washed away from the storms that passed through her life- note: even the pools she submerged herself in never removed the glistening water from her body because sometimes water needs a little force behind it in order to cleanse you.

The gold and purple sunsets are passing memories that she wants to desperately hold on to. No taste will be quiet like the pancakes she had eaten, and no smell will ever replace that of the sweater she stole (despite overheating every time she wore it).

Scars are a painful reminder of what she went through, and it takes a little to see them as a badge of honor, but the help she received only made it re-open in the long run.

Tire swings will never be the same, and that stupid song is still on the radio- as if it wasn’t playing enough in her head. Y/n used to think she was strong, but now that’s barely believable. Ice cream cones and train rides have a hidden meaning that will only ever be known by her and it hurts to know that no one can help her mourn a love that never happened.

--------------

The first question was asked when the summer started. It was next to a moving van that was a beacon calling out to everyone on the street it was parked on. The well-off neighborhood was full of upstanding citizens who wanted nothing more than to welcome the newest member with open arms.

It was that beacon that called the Iida family over to the driveway. But as Tenya walked with his brother and parents, he wondered if the bright beacon that drew him in was the moving truck of the bright smile of the teen girl, happily grabbing boxes of things to bring inside.

“Hello! We’re the Iida family, this is my husband, and these are my two son’s, Tensei and Tenya. Welcome to the neighborhood!” The wife smiled kindly at the mother.

“Thank’s for coming out! This is my husband, Y/d/n, and my daughter Y/n. We’re really looking forward to joining the neighborhood,”  to the untrained eye this looked like any normal greeting, but Y/n knew better. She could see the subtle glances her mom threw at her. She was trying to say how cute the younger boy was. It received a light chuckle and an eye-roll from her daughter.

“Tenya,” The Iida’s father said, clasping him on the shoulder, “Why don’t you go help Y/n with her boxes?”

“Yes, sir,” he said, walking over to the moving truck.

“You can just grab that one if it’s not too heavy,” she pointed at a medium side box labeled ‘Knickknacks’. He hummed in agreement and followed her up into her room, noting the aesthetic that she surrounded herself in.

---------------------

A knock echoed through the newly-decorated house, alerting the present family members of a visitor.

“Not it,” Y/n’s dad said, pressing his finger to his noes; her mother follows suit.

“You guys are literal children,” Y/n groaned, forcing herself off the couch she had grown ever so attached to.  Grumpily, she made her way to the door.

“Oh hey! Iida, right?” Y/n said, recognizing the boy that had already been in her room.

“Yes! That’s me. I uh,” he scratched the back of his neck nervously, “I was heading down to the boardwalk, and I wanted to know if you would like to come with me?”

Truth be told this wasn’t his idea. His mother had been pressuring him for days in hopes to grow closer to the new family. It wouldn’t be long until they realized the Iida’s are a line of hero’s, and she wanted to get close to them before they found out.

“Oh,” Y/n replied, suddenly thinking of the clothes she was currently wearing. While her tie-dye shorts and loose t-shirt weren't anything to be ashamed of, they were not ‘paint the town red’ clothes.

“It’s okay if you don’t want to!” Tenya said, suddenly embarrassed that he randomly invited a girl his age to hang out with him.

“No! I’ll gladly go, just give me a few minutes to get changed. Come inside,” Y/n had said, opening the door wider for him before racing upstairs.

--------------------

Iida walked slightly behind the girl he was supposed to show around. It was a cliché, but she was mesmerizing. Her hair bounced with every step, and she walked like she had a purpose, and the end goal was in mind and she would stop at nothing to get there.

She looked like she was made of honey and sugar and a taste would give him a cavity. The beams of the sun projected from her eyes like the cosmos and it made him want to fall in- knowing full well that drifting through the endless space would never cease to amaze him.

“Do you think they sell corn-dogs here?”

“Huh? oh!” He blushed, before pointing ahead, “Yeah, there’s one right by the docks.”

“Well then what are we waiting for?” She smiled and leaned closer to Iida. “Let's hurry!” There was a burst of light laughter in her voice, as she grabbed his hand and ran off. What was he doing here?

--

When they reached the end of the docks- corn dogs in hand- they say on the bench which over-looked the sea. Night had fallen while they were out, Y/n becoming absorbed in learning as much as she can about where she moved to.

As she looked out to the wine-light sky, she wondered if she could swim to it. The horizon looked so close, like just reaching out a little further would put it in her grasp. It wasn’t until Tenya’s hand grabbed her shoulder that she realized she really was leaning forward.

“Hey, you okay?” He asked, eyebrows pulled together.

“Yeah!” She smiled, snapped out of her thoughts,. “Just day-dreaming,”

“We should get you back home,” He said, before looking back to the water.

She saw his glasses, they reflected the golden hue of the sunset, and the beautiful purple that fought underneath it. She saw all the beauty in the world in his eyes, all that was good and right- was all in front of her. He was the sunset, he was the horizon she so desperately wanted to get to.

“Hey, Iida?” Y/n asked, swinging her legs back and forth under the bench.

“What is it?” He said, looking over to her face- which didn’t turn to see him.

“Stupid question- but an icebreaker; if you could have anyone in the world- living or dead- over to yours for dinner, who would it be?” she blushed a little, but kept a calm face.

He knew the answer as soon as she finished the sentence, but there was no need to tell someone he just met the name of the girl he had been in love with for years- so all he said was, “Probably Catherin The Great, she had a few political opinions I’d like to hear about first hand,”

“Hmm, I can see you two bonding over tea,” She smirked, standing up from her seat, “Let’s get home.”

Tenya nodded, walking beside Y/n- thinking about her.

----------------------------------------------------------------

A month had passed, and the little interactions the two families had resulted in the Iida’s inviting them over for breakfast. Y/n had woken up early to get dressed. She pulled her hair into a ponytail, harshly shaking it so the baby hairs would fall out. She threw on a form-fitting sweater and yoga-pants. Despite wanting to look like it’s a casual mornings- she did apply some casual makeup to make herself look a little more awake.

It was stupid- she knows- but Y/n really just wanted to look a tiny bit better when he sees her again. Looking in the mirror, she wonders if he’s putting a little extra effort in his appearance as well. She could only hope.

Walking down the stairs, she saw her mother- also wearing casual makeup- and her father in a black polo and slacks. They were both standing by the door, waiting for their daughter to come out from her cave.

“Why are you guys already done?” She asked, turning on the phone and checking the time.

“Wanted to make a good impression,” Her dad smiled, putting his own phone away.

“Alright,” Her mom smiled, putting on her wedges, “Let’s get going. Y/n can you grab the scones and smoothie?”

“Yeah mah, I’ll be right back,”

“Thanks love,” she smiled, grabbing the house keys off the hook.

They were kinda heavy, but it was nothing she couldn’t carry. That didn’t stop her dad from taking it from her with a smile. She could have done it, but she’s not necessarily upset about it.

---

Sitting at the dining room table was only awkward in the beginning of the meal. The Iida’s seemed to be pretty profesional people, but the Y/l/n’s were introverts with an acquired sense of humor. Joking about everything from people at work, eachother, and random facts they had learned, the Iida’s quickly became much less tense during the meal.

The mother and father- whom’s names Y/n never seemed to learn, were last few to smile or laugh along side the rest, beaten by Tenya by only a second, but Tensai had been the first to crack a joke, almost beating Y/n herself to break the ice.

The loud laughter slowly split into multiple side conversations; Y/n- who sat across from Tenya- tried to strike up a conversation. “Do you want to be famous one day?”

“Hmm?” He asked, looking up from the lone strawberry cut on his plate, “Yes, I plan on being a Hero.”

A few seconds longer than a moment had passed, end Tensai asked Y/n in return, “What about you? You wanna live the life of fame, or are you more of a low-key kinda gal,” he smiled at her, and for a second Y/n though he had noticed the embarrassment worn on her face after being rejected and forced into silence.

“I dunno really, my quirk is pretty multipurpose. I originally wanted to be a counselor or therapist, but it’s changed from a vet to doctor, to a hundreds of other things. My parents think I should be a hero- I wouldn’t mind I don’t think, but the constant attention could get pretty annoying. A like being busy with people and events, but I do value my privacy,”

He smiled at her, nodding in acceptance at her answer. The Iida parents had been listening into her words while she spoke, but they still conversed with Y/n’s parents as well.

Y/n saw a smile on Iida’s face. That mirrored on her own, and suddenly her pancakes tasted a whole lot better. She missed the far off look in his eyes, if only she saw the worried look that was on Tensai’s face. If she had, maybe that small warning could have protected her heart.

---------------------------------------------

Y/n had found an abandoned tire swing in their large backyard, three acres of cleared land and two of forest. The swing was in a small clearing- it looked like a party or two had been thrown while it was vacant- shown by the few nips thrown about the ground. She swung back and forth- listening to music playing in her head.

Because of how caught up in her head she was, she never heard the footsteps approaching her. “Hey, Y/L/N!” Tenya greated.

“Jesus Christ!” She shouted, falling from the swing. Thankfully, with the use of his quirk, Iida was able to catch her just in time.

“You should really be more careful,”

“I’ll be sure to remember that,” she rolled her eyes.

He smiled, helping her back up to the swing. He slowly began to push her back and forth, spinning her as fast as he could listening to her laughter. Getting more and more dizzy, she closed her eyes to stay level headed.

With a heavy sigh of contentment, Y/n lied on the grass with Iida, staring up at the beautiful blue sky. “Hey, Tenya?” She asked, still looking up.

“Yeah?” He turned on his side to see her better- only to notice her eyes were closed.

“What’s your perfect day?”

“Hmm...” he thought for a second, trying to think of a good answer. “Probably waking up early, and seeing the girl I love as soon as I open my eyes. Then I’d like to eat breakfast with my family- followed by patrol with my brother. Then I’d like to go home and make a cup of tea and sit down with a book I like. Yeah, that sounds pretty good,” he smiled himself, closing his eyes to really picture what he was saying.

“That sounds really nice Iida,” she whispered, wondering if she could be the one he loves.

---------------------------------

Summer only had a month left, but Y/n wanted to make the most of the fleeting free-time she had left. Wanting to explore more of Japan before her freedom was stripped from her, she invited Iida to go on a roadtrip with her.

It wasn’t hard at all to convince her parents to let her go, with her quirk she really didn’t need to worry about being attacked. Even then, she’s physically strong if she can’t use her quirk to defend herself. With the rise of heroes to protect everyone, Japan quickly became one of the safest places. Y/n was also very closely trained with America’s top hero, Reflector. She taught Y/n everything she knew and fully plans on giving Y/n her hero agency as her predecessor.

Iida’s parents were a little harder to convince, but Y/n’s parents were very persuasive. They would be gone for a week, and they would check in every morning when they woke up and every night before they went to sleep. If they didn’t call during one of the time’s then they had until the next call to respond.

They had made a list of regions and cities in them to visit in them, with the days they would be arriving and leaving. If they skipped a stop of stayed longer, then they had to text their parents with the nex information. Solid rules, and both the teens agreed to them, as well as their parents.

The bus ride to the train station was relatively short, but it was in complete silence. It was a little awkward, but they just had to get through that one part.

The train ride itself was much more enjoyable. With their suitcases in hand, they sat close yet comfortably. “Hey, Tenya?”

“What’s up?” He asked, looking up from his phone to see her eyes staring back at him- a smile tugging at his lips.

“For what in your life do you feel most grateful?” She questioned, smiling into his eyes.

“Probably my family,” He responded as soon as she finished- having grown accustomed to Y/n’s random questioning, “They’ve done so much for me, and I only hope I can pay them back for all that they’ve supported me through.”

Y/n nodded at his answer, acknowledging how very much like him it is. The loud bustle of train and constant shaking led them to listening to music together, sharing earbuds and squeezing close together. It was a cheesy, new, pop song- one that will probably inspire a sub-culture of girls to bind together. It was weirdly comforting.

---------------------------------

The last night they spent through their travel of Japan was by far the most enjoyable. There was a small frost in the air that traveled with the two, following them in their own little bubble.

The streets were lightly illuminated, and it seemed like they were the only two in the world. Y/n had grabbed him by the hand, dragging him to an ice cream vendor. Seeing her in front of him, Tenya was thrown back to the first time they spent time together- everything's so different now. Yet, her beautiful eyes stay constant. Her kindness in unwavering. She’s still a girl made of honey and sugar.

After traveling together for so long, the two stopped correcting people who referred to them as a couple- they simply accepted it as an inside joke. This was why they laughed when the man behind the counter said “And these two for the cute couple,” with a wink at the end of his sentence.

Walking linked by the elbows, the two passed through the park. Shivering from the wind and the chill of her ice cream, Iida stopped the pair. He took off his sweater, revealing the long-sleeve shirt he wore underneath, and he handed it to her.

“Ten! You’ll freeze to death,” she said, refusing the offering.

“C’mon Y/n/n, I can heat myself up through my engines, and I wasn’t asking. You’re gonna wear the sweater or you’ll get sick. Put it on,” he said, taking the ice-cream from her hand and raising her arms like she was a child.

Y/n was very pleased the cold hid the blush on her face- last thing she needed was for him to discover her feelings on the last day of this amazing trip. She slipped into his large sweater, and grabbed her ice cream back from him.

“Hey Iida, I’ve got another question,” she said, walking with him through the trees bordering the street.

“I’m ready,” he asked, looking forward to make sur they didn’t walk into anything in the dark.

“What’s a personal problem you could use some advise for?” She asked, actually curious as to what he could possibly need help with.

He sighed, not making eye-contact. “I guess since we’re close enough- even on nickname basis- I should be comfortable telling you this. I’m in love with this girl, I’ve never stopped thinking about her since the moment I met her,” a dopey smile came onto his face, “I have no idea how to tell her. And now we’re going into highschool, and she’s going to meet so many other people- people I’m sure are more fun than me. I want to confess to her before the summer ends, but I have no idea how to. So,” he sucked in a deep breath and looked at Y/n, “What do you think?”

Y/n smiled, she was so sure he was being cheesy and talking about her. She fully believes that he’s gonna confess tonight. It has to happen- that’s the only way what he just said makes sense.

“I think,” she closed her eyes, “You should look her in the eyes, and compliment them. Whether she accepts your compliment or refuses it, tell her you want her to know how perfect she is- and then tell her how you feel. Tell her how just seeing her makes your day, how you want her to be the first thing you see in the morning, and the last voice you hear at night. Tell her you want to spoil her, want to tell her everyday how perfect she is. Confess to her that she’s amazing, and that you love her. Let her know how you feel, and then respect her reply. But, there’s no way she’ll turn you down. Be confident, you’re amazing and I’m sure she feels the same,”

Tenya thanked her for her advise, and they fell back into a comfy silence. It was then she remembered the night they decided to go by first names, the night she realized how hard she fell for him.

----

Y/n was sitting on her rooftop, Iida beside her. They were looking up at the stars- sitting in silence. Like always, she started the conversation- “Hey, Iida, If you died this evening without being able to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone? And Why haven’t you told them yet?”

“Huh,” he murmured, thinking hard. “I’d regret not thanking my brother more. He risks his life to save people, and he practically raised me. He’s why I want to be a hero, to live up to his expectations. I guess I haven’t told him yet because I want to prove that I’ve done something with myself. I want him to know he doesn’t have to raise me anymore- that I succeed,”

Y/n thought for a moment, before answering a question for the first and only time they have known eachother- but he didn’t ask it. She just felt a need to finally speak.

“I had an ex-boyfriend,” she sighed, clenching her eyes shut; “We’d been dating for five years- since we were children. We were so close as kids, but when our quirks manifested he broke up with me. He said my quirk was too dangerous for him, that he didn’t want to be part of the backstory of a villians history. It fucking ruined me. I was an idiot for actually thinking we could have lasted. About a month after we broke up, a villian attacked the agency I was working at. The only reason I was there was because I know the hero in charge, and he knew that. He had come to the building during my break- I don’t know why he was there, but I was the only person he knew there. The villain attacked, but his quirk wasn’t very strong. All he could do was change the color of an item for a few seconds. He was killed that day- slaughtered by the villain who’s only reason was boredom. I wish I could talk to him one last time, tell him I loved him one last time.”

Iida scooted closer to her, pulling her head onto his chest, letting her use him as a crutch. “It’s okay, Y/n. It’ll be okay,”

----------------------------------------------------------

When highschool started, and Tenya hadn’t confessed his love to him, Y/n came to the painful realization that she wasn’t the one he loved. However, it was the first day of school that hit the nail on the head.

She had entered the classroom of 1-A, after her family convinced her to at least try out the hero course, and was terrified that she would know no one. And then, she heard a voice that reminded her of someone very similar.

At the far end of the room, she saw the back of a blue-haired boy scolding a blond with his feet on the desk. A smile spread across her mouth when she realized who this up-tight teen was. Practically running to cover the distance of the class, Y/n launched herself onto Iida, latching onto her.

“Ten!” She smiled, shifting to wear he could comfortably hold her up.

“Y-Y/n?” He asked, momentarily stunned by her sudden appearance. He smiled and spun her around for a second before putting her down. “You’re here? You’re parents convinced you to pursue being a hero?” he was reasonably confused, but he wasn’t upset she was there- if anything he was glad to have a second familiar face around.

“Yeah, I’m just trying it out,” Y/n laughed, scratching the back of her neck.

“So heartwarming, now get outta my line of sight four-eyes,” the blond snapped, glaring at the pair.

“You’re annoying, you know that?” Y/n said, rolling her eyes at his comments.

Meanwhile, Iida laughed at Y/n being called his girlfriend. Y/n, who used to laugh with him, could only do her best to not cry.

“C/mon Ten, let’s go to your seat,” Y/n said, tugging his hand towards the spot with his name on it- stopping when her arm was tugged, caused by him not moving with her.

“Sorry Y/n/n,” he said, releasing her hand. “I would, but I promised Momo I’d meet her by the gate and guide her to the classroom. You know about Momo, right?” He looked into her eyes hoping she would put it together herself. After realizing she wouldn’t, he reminded her, “We talked about her on our last day of the tour.”

“Oh,” she said, feeling suddenly really cold.

“Yeah,” He smiled, “Wish me luck!” He gave her a thumbs up and walked out the room- leaving her stunned and so very cold.

A scoff echoed from behind her, causing her to look back and see the blond once again.

“That guy’s an idiot- glasses or not. It’s so obvious how you feel about him, and you’re way to attractive to pine after someone like him. You’re smart too, since you got into this school- he’s really missing out,” he rolled his eyes, but he also knew what just happened- even though no one else in the room picked up on it.

He assumed they were dating, but when Iida laughed, Bakugo had no clue if he was laughing at them dating or the girl’s reaction. He quickly figured out which of the two was the truth, and he also realized that he had no clue that she was in love with him.

Y/n didn’t react to his words, just stuck in the weird state she was in. She wasn’t sad, or angry. There was no tears or screams or breakdown, just a silent wave of shock. An ocean of doubt consumed her, filling her with a sense of... nothing.

She should have known. She should have realized. It’s entirely her fault. Who could love her. Who would want to love her. Who wants to date a freak. Who wants to date someone with a villainous quirk like hers. That’s why he was shocked when she showed up- he thought they’d reject a future villain like her.

No wonder everyone hates her; if she was someone else she’d hate herself too.

For The Night (my forever)

T. Shoto x Reader B. Katsuki x Reader

Warnings: Cheating -Maybe it was the hazy room, or maybe it was the fact that he was at home waiting for her to come crawling back to him. Anything could have caused her to make this decision, this lapse of judgment- but he, who had loved her since freshman year, has never been happier.

For The Night (my Forever)

The room was filled with a haze of light and bodies moving together. The music bounced off the walls, but, to her, it all seemed muffled. Some would say she had too much to drink, but Y/n wasn’t pessimistic like that- she liked to think that she was just giving the bartender more opportunities for money.

Drink after drink and dance after dance, she grew more and more numb to the pain, and eventually, she forgot why she was there in the first place. She shook her head as if that erased the thought from her head, and hundreds of strangers welcomed Y/n back onto the dancefloor.

Their touch felt so foreign, it felt almost wrong, but that’s what she’s trying to fix- the whole point of her going out was to feel good by herself. She wanted people to see her, she wanted them to notice her- but then why did the hands that were on her waist feel more like sludge than fun?

They were rough with her, keeping her tightly in place while they danced. The man that had chosen her as his temporary dance partner was obviously used to taking the lead. That must be why it’s so different.

---

“Y/n? Babe?” Her blond boyfriend awkwardly stood next to the food table at the school dance. He didn’t dance, and he was obviously out of his comfort zone- but he did it for her.

“You look so cute, Katsu,” She teased him lightly, and a smile spread wide on her face.

“Sh-shut up!” He blushed lightly and looked away with a glare.

“Sorry Katsuki, here,” she reached her hand out to him, “dance with me.”

“I don’t dance,”

“You do tonight,”

Y/n grabbed a hold of his hand and led him slightly away from the ongoing party. She brought him outside the cafeteria doors, and she wrapped her hands around his neck. After about five seconds of him doing nothing, she huffed and put his hands on her waist.

He complied, but she had to be the one to start swaying back and forth. She hummed softly to the faint music, and her head rested on his shoulder. That was one of the highlights in their relationship, and little did she know someone was watching- completely heartbroken and falling apart.

---

“Y/n?” A deep voice had reached her ears, and her y/e/c eyes slammed open at her name with a new sense of fear taking over.

She looked around quickly before seeing Todoroki standing a little away from her. She walked away from the people surrounding her, and she smiled up at her hot-n-cold friend.

A smile had made its way to Todoroki’s face when he saw her visibly relax when she saw it was him calling out to her. Why does she make my heart feel so warm?

“What’re you doing here?” It was hard to imagine Y/n here, in this dirty and over-filled club known for the drugs that coursed through its veins.

“Well honestly,” She twiddled her thumbs and looked down, “I didn’t think anyone I cared about would find me here, and there are some people I’m trying to stay away from.”

Todoroki nodded and looked her up and down. Y/n’s once smooth eyeliner had smudged and her tight dress was slightly twisted at the waist. Her ponytail had gained bumps and her ankles were rubbed raw from the strap of her heels. She looked tired, but more importantly, she looked uncomfortable.

Her elbows had small scratches from her nails- a nervous habit she had even in their UA days. Her shoulders shifted as she moved her weight from side to side, and her eyes locked with his, as she tried to focus only on her friend that stood in front of her.

“Do you want me to take you home?”

She bit her lip, and the soft red lipstick was transferred to her teeth as concern washed over her. “He’s waiting for me, I can feel it,”

“Then...” Shoto looked at his feet before bashfully looking up, “How about you come home with me?”

---

The rain hit the top of his car, as they drove to Todoroki’s apartment. Music was playing, but to y/n it seemed as if it was muffled two rooms away from where she was, even though the radio was in front of her.

She felt electricity run up her arms as she looked over at the boy who had decided to take in the stray. Had he always been so cute?

Y/n blushed and looked away, though her hand had fallen on the console between their seats with her palm up. A small gasp escaped her lips once Todoroki linked their hands together.

A feeling was shared between those two heroes that night. As one looked at the other and quickly looked away, and as their touches were fleeting but longing, they had a shared thought.

Tonight, just for one night of their lives, they would fall in love. An entire love-story in three hours, just so they could know what could have been, what they had chosen another course over.

“Y/n?” Todoroki led her into his living room, his hair hung loosely by his eyes as he looked up at her.

“Mmhmm?”

“If tomorrow,” he grabbed one of her hands, “you leave my arms to go back to him, if I never get to see you again and live knowing you’re getting these things from someone else, then I need you to be mine for the night,” he was illuminated by the fire he had burning behind him, making him appear devilishly handsome and all too alluring.

“For the night,” Y/n looked at his eyes, down to his lips, and back up again.

“Just for the night,” he stepped closer and grabbed her by the waist, “all mine.”

Y/n wrapped her legs around his waist, melting into his kiss and returning his fiery passion. It wasn’t the kind of kiss you see in movies, it was the bruised-lips wanted-for-years kinda kiss that hurt your teeth, but the ache felt so good.

And for the night, Todoroki had what he always wanted. But morning came, and Y/n went.
