Revelations

“You seem distracted, deedee” Edwina tells Kate

“It’s, uh, just a headache” Kate says and walks over to Edwina after the maid was done dressing her.

I look at Kate worriedly, the ladies maid doing the finishing touched to my hair.

“From, uh, all the excitement these days”

“Is that all that ails you? I have seen how ill at ease you are with the Viscount” I see Kate’s eyes flick over to me “ I was hoping we had put all that behind us now that, Anthony is to be my husband” She smiled giddily

“He has asked you to call him by his given name?” Kate said shocked

“No, not yet” Edwina frowned “It is weird, he gave Y/n the privilege before me, and I, am the one who is going to be his wife” I ignore their talk

“But it sounds fine, does it not?”

“Do you think the Sheffield’s, will like us?” I ask them, changing the conversation “ My stomach is in a knot, wondering what they will think of me, considering I am one and twenty, not married yet, even if it is my first season, and that Edwina was chosen as the Incomparable being younger than me”

“Sisters, before you go, there is something I must tell you both” Kate started, we look at her expectantly

“Our guests have arrived” Lady Danbury interrupts her, Edwina and I looked at each other and smiled, we held hands and walked to the dining room together.

“Ah, Lord and Lady Sheffield, it has been too long, may I present, Miss Sharma and Miss Y/n and Edwina Sharma” we bowed in greeting

“Oh my dears, look at you” Lady Sheffield smiled “Aren’t they as lovely as the reports say” She looked at me

“Although we were kind of shocked that your younger sister, got to be the incomparable, instead of you” She laughed “Imagine being overthrown by your younger sister, she is the Incomparable and marrying a Viscount ” my smile dimmed at her insult

I looked back at Mama and Kate, they smiled at me reassuringly, I turned back around and got a glimpse of Anthony’s expression from behind the Sheffield’s, his jaw tightened in annoyance.

“We are so happy to make your acquaintance” I said instead, Lady Sheffield gave me a tight smile

“Yes, I am sure” She turned back to Edwina, giving her all her attention “I wish to know everything about you, do enjoy dancing, music”

“You must accompany us to the opera” Lord Sheffield added

I looked between them three before turning and walking back next to Kate, my cheerful mood now gone.

“We have a box that is gathering dust”

“Indeed it has been too long since we’ve seen you both in town, Lord and Lady Sheffield” Lady Bridgerton said

“Yes, indeed it has” Lady Sheffield snarled, looking at mama

“Mother, father” mama greeted

“I do enjoy the opera, My sister, Kate, was the one who introduced Y/n and I, into it” The Sheffield’s said nothing

“Oh, shall we go through to dinner” Lady Danbury cuts through the silence

▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪

We ate dinner, The Sheffield’s speaking only to Edwina, which was a disappointment seeing as I was excited to meet them. But what could I expect from the people that disowned my mother for finding true love.

“Of course, you shall be our guests at the Sheffield Manor, It is nothing compared to the estates of Aubrey Hall to be sure, but I think it a most pretty part of Hertfordshire”

“Do you shoot? We have a fine stock of birds and you are welcome”

“Thank you for the invitation, I do enjoy shooting”

“So does Kate and Y/n, Kate is the one who taught Y/n, and she does enjoy it much” Edwina gestures to us

“How unusual” Lady Sheffield looks at us “ Do they teach young ladies to shoot in India”

“Only the fortunate ones” Kate answers

“Lord and Lady Sheffield, how long do you plan to remain in town?” I ask them

“Well, we will stay for the wedding” Lady Sheffield answers “Imagine, the queen herself overseeing my granddaughter’s nuptials, we should spend more time together, and you tell us all about what you are planning for the wedding”

“May I be able to join you all?” I ask smiling, Lady Sheffield pursued her lips

“You are not the one marrying the Viscount, are you?” I stayed quiet “I thought so”

“Her majesty is so forgiving, after everything that happened”

“Now, now, we are all family” Lord Sheffield said to his wife, who laughed humorously

“Of course we are” she looked at mama “even after our daughter so callously rejected the match we had found for her”

“My dear, we agreed-“

“-Ah and no less, with twelve thousand acres, any other young lady would have fallen to her knees in gratitude that her parents were showing such care” I looked at her annoyed

“This was delicious Lady Danbury, you must have your cook give mine the recipe” Lady Bridgerton interjected

“it is the gooseberry, I believe” Lady Danbury laughs “Lady Sheffield, you’ve got quite the sweet tooth, I do recall?”

“And all for what? A mere clerk, was he? And with a child from a previous marriage to God knows who”

“She did it for love!” I exclaimed, everyone looked at me shocked

“Y/n-“ Mama started to say but I ignored her

“Something which I am sure you know nothing about since you disowned your only daughter because she fell in love? What kind of parents are you?” they gasped incredulously

“How dare-“

“And my sisters mother has a name”

“We could not show our faces in society for years, not that she should care” she ignored everything I just said

“She simply sailed away from all of us with that man, robbing us of our grandchild”

“Grandchildren” mama said “I have three daughters with whom you have had every opportunity to form a connection. But the choice to shun us was yours alone”

“I beg your pardon-“

“Do not think I took it lightly, being cast out by the only family I had ever known. I was heartbroken, indeed. But in time, I came to see, that in your cruelty, you did us all a great service”

“I hardly think this is a proper dinner conversation”

“I completely agree, please collect-“

“When you cast me out, what you did was set me free. Free to raise my daughters far from your constant judgment and craven demands that they should chase wealth and titles above all else!”

“I see where Y/n gets her character from, talking back to her seniors, where is her manners” Lady Sheffield chuckles “You are a fine one to talk. You speak of scoring riches, and yet you have come crawling back to snatch at our fortune”

“Lady Danbury is right-“Kate interrupts

“Believe me, I want nothing from you”

“Oh, you may not, but your daughters certainly does” She points at Edwina and i, we all look at her confused

“mama?” Edwina said confused

“The trust funds we have set up for her, the condition of which clearly states that she must marry a man of good English breeding to inherit. You did not think we would allow another generation to pollute the Sheffield name, did you?”

“What nonsense are you sayi-“ I say angrily

“Oh shut up child, you are the least person to talk seeing as it does not concern you, you are not marrying anyone of English nobility” I furrowed my eyebrows

“Deedee, what are they talking about?” Edwina asks Kate

“What have you done?” Mama snaps

“Anthony, did you know about this?” Lady Bridgerton questions

“I shall explain everything” Kate tells us

“I see this one has inherited your penchant for avoiding the truth, honestly dear, are you even raising your daughters right? Seems Edwina is the only pride of the family. The eldest one, I am not even going to bother saying anything. The second? Has the character of the first, a disappointment, does not even have one single proposal from a gentleman, and was not named the incomparable, which I can see why as Edwina is more prett-“

“That is enough!” Anthony exclaims furiously, Lady Sheffield quiets down “I can only think you’ve been exiled from good society because of your deficient manners rather than any other sin. Since the moment you arrived, you have failed to show the proper respect for the Sharma family, and I will not stand for it.”

“I declare-“

“I will not stand for it!” Anthony repeats “Lady Mary has done admirably in raising her daughters. They are intelligent, kind, loyal women and a credit to both their parents” He stares at me

“And since you clearly do not wish to jeopardize your social standing by associating with such company, I suggest you do not. You may leave at once!” he throws his napkin at the table and stands up

“You cannot be serious!”

“Please be kind to send for Lord and Lady Sheffield’s carriage, they can wait outside, and do not trouble yourselves for an invitation for the wedding, for you shall not receive one”

“This is beyond the pale, and if you think you shall inherit a single sovereign now, you are solely mistaken” Lord Sheffield says as he takes his leave

Leaving us all confused and betrayed by Kate’s actions at the table

“Lord and Lady Bridgerton, I must apologize-“

“We should take our leave” Anthony interrupts mama

“Thank you for the evening, Lady Danbury, it was quite enlightening ”

“My lord-“ Edwina stands up

“Good evening” he walks away

“Y/n, do something” Edwina begs me “Anything, he will listen to you” I look at her unsure before I go after the Viscount

“Lord Bridgerton!” I call out desperate “Lord Bridgerton, I beg a word!” he stops

“We must be going”

“please”

“Mother, I shall meet you at the house” Lady Bridgerton nodded and walked off

I looked around and walked into a room, Anthony following behind.

“You must know, neither Edwina or I knew about what Kate did, coming to England, finding ourselves a match, we had no idea, you cannot be angry at her” I plead

“I am not, I take it both of you were in the dark about your sisters schemes”

“I am sure Kate did not mean any harm, she is not like that, she only wishes the best for us” I cut in

“I take it there’ll be no dowry now that the Sheffield’s have withdrawn their support” I scoff

“You care about the dowry? I am quite certain it is because of what you just did, that the Sheffield’s withdrew it”

“It is regrettable, to be sure, but clearly Miss Edwina and I have both been misled, and it is best to call off this doomed engagement before it is the cause of any more strife”

“Of course, I would never besmirch, my mother and Lady Danbury will make a plan-“

“Anthony!” I looked at him as if he had gone crazy “What is wrong with you?”

“Why are you even suggesting this?” I ask “ Were you not the one who has been set on marrying Edwina, and now you intend to cast her?” He nodded his head angrily

“And do not say because of the dowry, you told me yourself that you had enough money of your own and did not care for something like a dowry” I scoff “So, tell me, what has she done?”

“She has done nothing, it is you. You have made this match impossible” he admits

“Me?! I have done nothing but he supportive of you both” I exclaim

“Supportive?” He huffs “Of course, you were being supportive when you put my hand on your bosoms, you were most definitely being supportive in that library when we almost-“

“I am leaving with Kate for India”

“And it is not far enough!” he stuns me into silence “Do you think that there is a corner of this earth that you could travel to far away enough to free me from this torment?”

“I am a gentleman, my father raised me to act with honor, but that honor is hanging by a thread that grows more precarious with every moment that I spend in your presence” my heart starts to race rapidly

“You are the bane of my existence, and the object of all my desires, night and day, I dream of you,” he walks closer to me “and what i- do you even know all the ways a lady can be seduced? The things I could teach you” his breath hits my face, his lips brushing mine

“Anthony” I whispered looking down at his lips “I did not ask for this, to have this feelings, for you. Hiding them from Edwina. Being driven to distraction every time you enter the room” he puts his hand on my cheek

“Then you agree, it is insupportable.”

“Impossible” his lips meet mine for a second before he pulls away, shaking his head. Tears start brimming in my eyes.

“If I wed your sister, it will bind me and you together for eternity and I will spend every day of my marriage wanting you, dreaming of you, dreading the day when my last thread of honor finally snaps.” He murmurs

“Is that the future that you want for us? For your sister? Because I do not,” he gets closer to me once again “So it is better that we call the engagement off, so as to not hurt her, and maybe, after some time, I can-“

“What is going on?!”

Off To The Races

Dearest reader, it has been said that the competition is an opportunity for us to rise and stand ready before our greatest challenges.

Well if what this author hears this morning is true, then a great challenge concerning this season’s diamond has been set forth, indeed,

Any suitor wishing to get in an audience with Miss Edwina Sharma, or her sister Miss Y/n Sharma, must first tame the rather prickly spinster of a beast, otherwise known as her eldest sister.

Of course the only competition that appeals my attention, is the game of courtship, so best of luck to this year’s player’s, do try not to stumble along the starting line.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“Lord Lumley, at the top”

“is he not something of a dandy” I heard as I walked down the stairs, I sighed shaking my head.

Another day of Kate and her list of suitors we are allowed to converse with. Honestly, I love my sister, dearly, but she can be quite controlling at times.

“I would use the term, gallant” Kate shook her head

“Is that what you look for Edwina?” Mama asked worriedly, Edwina smiled, looking at Kate

“If Kate believes in him, so do I” Edwina says making Kate smile triumphantly, I groaned.

“Deedee, please” I pleaded with Kate “ Just for one day, let us converse with the gentlemen we want” She looked at me with raised eyebrows

“At least let me,” I huffed “You know I trust your judgement, and I know you only want the best for us but, those men you write in your list are a bore”

“Alright” She agreed making me smirk

“I see you’ve left off Lord Bridgerton” Lady Danbury comments, I raised an eyebrow

“Oh, now he is, what the girls are looking for” Mama said

“Unfortunately, he already has in mind which of us he wants to marry” I scoffed thinking back to his comment on the night of the ball, they looked at me confused “Forget it” I walked to look at a painting, ignoring their conversation

“An oversight on your part, my dear”

“Lord Bridgerton is quite adept to conveying false first impressions”

“What did you hear?”

“He stated rather clearly that he seeks a wife only to fulfill his duty and in fact does not believe in love at all” I payed attention to them again

“Oh” I said raising an eyebrow

“And you find this unusual”

“Most marriages of the ton are in fact mere matters of business, my dear, matters that have been working for centuries, it is the true love match that is quite rare” I huffed once again at Lady Danbury words and turned to continue what I was doing before.

“You know what it is what you are looking for, sisters” Kate addressed us both “You must not forget it, Lord Briar will turn the Viscount into a distant memory, I am certain” Kate addressed me alone now, mentioning the gentleman that she wanted me to see first, I nodded without looking back at her, feeling her eyes on me.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“Oh yes” I feigned my laughter, as the man in front of me told me a story. I sat on the drawing room, along with my family and Lady Danbury. Suitors coming in one by one.

Although I was not named the diamond of the season, I certainly had a lot of gentlemen seeking an audience with me, almost as much as Edwina, but of course, it is understandable that the people were seeking the diamond’s attention.

Kate walked out of the drawing room, checking the line of suitors standing outside. After a few moments, I interrupted him.

“If you may excuse me, I am going to tell Kate to fetch us some more tea, this one has grown cold” I smiled at him pleasingly and walked away, leaving him no room to answer.

“Did I say something funny?” I heard Kate say on the other side of the door, I went to open the door when I heard someone else say.

“ I believe you did” The Viscount.

“What is funny, my lord, is you here now after not only what I overheard the other night-“

“What you overhead the other night was not meant for your ears”

“-But after asking my sister, Y/n for a dance, and then going after my other sister, Edwina, after she was announced the diamond, you will know that you most certainly hurt her feelings by doing that-“ How did she even kno-

“-I did not mean to hurt her feelings, I consider Y/n only dear friend of mine, even if I’ve known her for a few days-“ of course, friend

“-but also in addition to everything I have now read of you, your dubious and libertine reputation goes before you” Kate finished, then just heard her start to walk inside, I took a few steps backwards, making it seem like I was jut now coming to get her.

“Deedee, tea has grown cold” I told Kate innocently, she smiled

“I will tell the maid to fetch some more, do not worry, now do not leave Lord Briar alone too long” I nodded and walked back towards Lord Briar. Trying to forget the conversation I just heard.

Only a friend

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“It is a marvel you love literature as much as i do” Lord Lumley told Edwina, who were both walking beside Lord Briar and I “Do you enjoy Byron”

“I have read some, my lord, though I believe myself a novice when it comes to poetry” Edwina answered

“How fortunate to have found such a well versed teacher in Lord Lumley, then” Kate intervenes

“And yourself , Miss Sharma?” Lord Briar asked me, pulling me away from their conversation, I hummed questioningly

“Do you read poetry?” He said

“Well, I am more of a novel person, I am afraid I have not read much poetry honestly” I told him as we came to a stop

“Lady Danbury” a young man approached us “ I would be so honored if you could facilitate a proper introduction, I fear my courting card got lost in the shadows of your home this morning” he looked at Kate

“Of course” Lady Danbury smiled “ Mr. Thomas Dosert, allow me to introduce, Miss Sharma and Miss Y/n and Edwina Sharma” we bowed, I looking at him intrigued

“A pleasure” Mr. Thomas Dorset said

“I’m afraid my sisters already have an escort for today Mr. Dorset” Kate informs him. Oh I am so certain he is not here for us, considering how he keeps on looking at Kate.

“That is very well, though I was hoping to speak with you” He said. A smile formed on my face happily, I tugged on Lord Briar’s arm and started to walk forward, Edwina and her escort behind us.

“ How are you finding the day so far, Miss Sharma” Lord Briar said, I smiled falsely at the boring conversation that was soon to follow

“Delightful, truly” I turned my head to look at the race track “Watching some horses race is fun, certainly keeps you on your toes as to which one us going to win”

“Shall we find our seats” Kate approaches us and ushers us on.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“I cannot take this heat any longer” I complained to Lord Briar who nodded in agreement

We were seated now, I was sat between Lord Lumley Lord Briar, Edwina on the other side of Lord Lumley, and Kate and Mr. Dorset beside Edwina

“The helping of others is a noble interest indeed” Edwina said, I tuned in to the conversation now “Mr. Dorset is much like you in that regard, sister” she looked at Kate knowingly

“Edwina, you’ve yet spoken to Lord Lumley of his interests at all” Kate reprimanded .Lord Lumley suddenly stood.

“Lord Bridgerton” He called out

“Miss Sharma, Miss Edwina, Miss Y/n” The Viscount greeted us with a smile, I simply looked at him , making him frown for a small second “Lumley”

“How surprising to see you here, my lord” I said knowingly, he tilted his head at me

“Lord Bridgerton, allow me to introduce myself, Thomas Dorset” He nodded his head in acknowledgement

“Miss Edwina, I was hoping to call on you this morning-” Lord Bridgerton started

“-My sister is well aware of everything” Kate interrupts

“But I promised my family I’d join them for breakfast, we’re exceptionally close, break our fasts together regularly” he defended himself, I looked over to Edwina, who looked enchanted at what he was saying, I pursued my lips, looking away

“Oh, there they are” The Viscount pointed over to a group of people

“One can tell a great deal about a man from his family, I rather think” Edwina looked at Kate with raised eyebrows

“yes, there are many excellent, affectionate families amongst the ton, are there not?” Kate looked at Lord Lumley

“But none quite as inviting as the Bridgertons” Lord Lumley pointing in front of him, the Viscount holding his hands out happily “ my mother’s been wanting to come and enjoy another tea at Bridgerton’s house for some time, my lord”

“Well we must gratify a wish, Lumley” the Viscount answered making me scoff quietly, jt not going unnoticed by the man himself “ speaking of refreshments, I can’t help but notice the ladies without”

“We are perfectly content, thank you” I said without looking at him

“It is an unseasonably hot day and any gentleman would ma-“ Lord Lumley stood up once again from beside us

“Miss Edwina, allow me to fetch a lemonade” Lord Lumley offered making Lord Briar stand up too, saying the same thing.

“That would be most agreeable, thank you, my lord” Edwina agreed

“Alright I suppose one drink cannot hurt” Lord Briar nodded and left along with Lord Lumley

The Viscount then stepped between the people seated at the first row and sat between Edwina and I.

“It’s a splendid day for a race” Lord Bridgerton exclaimed, I looked at him unamused

I sat there bored, listening to Edwina and Lord Bridgerton’s murmuring “Lord Lumley and Lord Briar seems to have gotten lost on their journey back from the lemonade stand”

“I am sure Lord Bridgerton would be happy to search for him” Kate remarked “It was the Viscount who insisted on refreshments after all” the Viscount looked at Kate

“When the race is set to begin” he chuckled

“Which one is your pick, my lord?” Edwina asked him

“Nectar” he answered “ well bred, highly trained and well favored” I huffed amused

“Nectar, really?” I raised and eyebrow at him, he looked at me

“Yes, I have a feeling about him”

“ a feeling” I chuckled shaking my head

“Pardon me?”

“You simply chose the horse that everyone else has chosen, quite the feeling” I stared at him back

“I made a strategic bet” he defended himself

“Oh so you’ve considered your horse’s temperament, as well as the conditions of the track?. In order to properly assess it’s true potential” I huffed

“Why, it’s suddenly feeling rather warm these days, is it n-“ The Viscount cut Edwina odd

“Nectar is a prized steep” He argued

“Perhaps we should find a little more shade” Mr. Dorset cut in, Kate shook his head at him, amused at the Viscount and I’s argument

“Nectar ran well at Doncaster, but that was a firm course, the weather was much cooler, thus his size was an advantage, today the track is soft and it is hot, meaning he will struggle to make headway, overheat and slow down during the final leg, giving High Flyer, a much swifter, lighter, cooler horse, the victory” I smirked smugly

“You think too much about it” he said backing off from the argument

“And you too little, my friend” I held my head up high and looked away from him

“My apologies for the delay” Lord Lumley apologized as he returned once again, Lord Lumley behind him

“Don’t worry” I smiled at Lord Lumley “ Lord Bridgerton has been keeping us entertained”

“I’m quite certain he has” Lumley replied knowingly, suddenly not that happy with the Viscount’s presence. Lord Briar sat once again on his spot next to me, handing me a glass of lemonade, I smiled at him thankfully

“There is plenty of room, my lord” Kate said scooting over so Lord Lumley can sit besides Edwina. I now squished between the Viscount and Lord Briar.

The bells then sounded, indicating the start of the race, we all stood up as the horses ran. I now finding this day much more enjoyable. We cheered for the horses we bet on

“Good, High Flyer, Steady! Steady!” I cheered, it drowning between all of the crowds cheers

The horses ran, some falling behind while Nectar and High Flyer stood in the front. Nectar then, as I predicted, started to slow down

“Come now, High Flyer!” I cheered as I saw the horse get more closer to the finish line. I put my fingers In my mouth and whistled, the Viscount looking at me astonished

“ Should we separate them” Mr. Thomas Dorset said amused looking at the Viscount and I

“It’s all in good spirit” Kate laughed

“Yes! YES!” I cheered happily as High Flyer crossed the finish line first

“I must say I’ve never bested a Viscount before, beating you feels the same as any other win, but somehow smells sweeter” I said smugly “It is alright, maybe you will win next time, my friend, just let me enjoy this one, although you must be certain I will remind you for many days to come” I smiled at him, this time genuine. He smiled back happily, nodding his head

Maybe I should let this little grudge I held against him go, it is better to have him as a friend than as a enemy

“Alright, Alright” the Viscount agreed

“Sisters, does Nectar not remind you of the beloved horse I use to adore” we both nodded “ do you remember the one”

“Hold on to my arm, I’ll take you down to see him” Lord Bridgerton offered to Edwina “ Do you want to come along Miss Y/n?” He turned to me, I thought for a minute before nodding, he offered me his other arm. I grabbed it before he led us down and to where the horses were.

Lord Briar stayed behind along with Lord Lumley.

“Oh it Is so beautiful, are you not the sweetest thing ” I caressed the horses head “ Look Bon, touch it” I grabbed Edwina’s hand and held it to the horses head

“Oh it just reminds me of our beloved horse” Edwina said

“Does it not” I chuckled

“Although there is some saddening news” the Viscount informs us

“They are planning to send Nectar to knacker’s yard” both Edwina and I gasped saddened, Kate approached us then

“Kate, it is dreadful” Edwina exclaimed frowning “ they say Nectar is to be sent to the knacker’s yard”

“We are leaving” Kate told us both, I frowned confused

“I heard of a sore loser, Miss Sharma, but never of a sore winner” the Viscount huffed humorously

“Do not speak to me, or my sisters, ever again” Kate said rudely

“What has happened?” I asked confusedly

“It seems a second game was afoot today” Kate huffed looking back at Mr. Dorset “and Lord Bridgerton made certain I play the fool, let us go” Kate turned and left. I looked at the Viscount hurt.

“Miss Y/n, I did-“ he tried to explain once he saw my face, I cut him off

“ I do not want any of your explanations” I grabbed Edwina’s arm gently “ Let us go, Bon. And to think I considered you my friend, Viscount Bridgerton, at least for a few minutes” I walked away with Edwina, not bothering to let the Viscount speak

hii would you ever write angst about the reader’s accident and how anthony found her?

also keep up the good work!! im loving this series <3

Yes!! It actually has not yet happened, It was supposed to happen after they slept together - *oh my god i suddenly just got the idea of what to put to make it more angsty* anyway , i instead decided to put it in the last part, which is coming out tomorrow, especially because of how in the series, Kate’s accident made Anthony realize how much he actually loved her, and since in my story, they still haven't said I love you, nor has Y/n accepted Anthony's marriage proposal, I wanted to make it more romantic with Anthony confessing how he felt about the accident and all making Y/n accept, honestly, it's just what happened in the gardens at the Featherington ball, just different setting and more heart to heart talk. And I'm glad you're loving the series!!♡♡ Thank you for your support♡♡

Make Him Chase

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“Come on, Y/n, cheer up, it does not matter if the Viscount is here or not, you can still have fun” Edwina said, smiling reassuringly as we entered the ball

“You cannot blame me, Bon, along with everyone in the ton staring at us, it is making me nervous” I sighed, holding on to her arm

“What do you say?” Edwina smiled “Shall we take to the floor?”

I turned to look at Kate who shrugged before turning back to Edwina “With whom?”

“Ourselves, they cannot possibly say anything about us that we have not heard before. And should your brush with death not be our best social capital yet?” Edwina pulled me to the floor as Kate laughed standing where we left her.

We danced, I laughing along with her, redness creeping on my face from embarrassment of every staring at us, but I kept dancing still.

I looked to the side, seeing Anthony staring at us. He smiled once he saw I was looking back at him. Edwina followed my stare.

“Do not mind him, just have fun” Edwina chuckled, I looked back at her and laughed as we twirled around

We walked to the refreshments table once the dance was finished, laughing as we talked, that dance brightening my mood. My eyes roamed around the room, Edwina chuckled

“Say what you want, but your eyes always search for the Viscount when you are together in a room, don’t they, deedee” She teased, I shook my head quickly “You will not be able to avoid him all night, and you should not attempt to. At least, not on my behalf. I already told you I am over him, not really sure if I ever did like him honestly and I will be happy for you with whatever decision you make. Be the sister I know that you are, be funny, brave and feeling”

“Be unafraid to follow your heart after doing the exact opposite all this time. No matter what everyone thinks, do what you desire, it is time for you to shine all on your own” Edwina smiled

“Why is everyone telling me the same thing all the time?” We both laughed

“Maybe it is a sign for you to do it” She said before walking away

I turned around, coming face to face with Anthony “Lord Bridgerton”

“Miss Y/n” he bowed his head “I was just on my way outside” I hummed

“I- I should give you, your space, everyone will tall in light of-“

“Perhaps you should not” I interrupted him “perhaps everyone will think that I was in the mood for a dance and since no gentleman is currently approaching us, you so kindly offered since you are a friend of our family still, after all” Anthony smiled, narrowing his eyes before putting up 3 fingers

“How many?” He stared at me adoring

I gave him a look, smiling amused “three” I looked into his eyes, he turned his hand around, putting up one more finger making a face.

We stared at one another before I spoke up “Are you going to ask me to dance?”

“Will you accept?” I held out my hand towards him, he grabbed my hand, pulling me to the dance floor

We started to waltz, the ton looking at us murmuring. The few couples that were on the floor, walking off to not be near us

“Do you want to stop?” I said worriedly

“Just keep looking at me” he twirled me “No one else matters” he stared into my eyes

I looked down at his lips as we danced, my hands around his shoulders while his were around my waist

“Marry me, y/n”

“Anthony…” I sighed

“You know I will not be the worst of husbands, of course I may annoy you sometimes and we may not agree on much, although you may regret your decision once you see the chaos that is my family” I laughed making him smile

“Anthony, you know I cannot” I shook my head

“What is stopping you-“

“Let us not talk of this any longer” I plead

“Alright” he pulled me closer as the music started to go more slowly

He held my hand on top, our faces getting closer as our hands went down, my eyebrows furrowed sadly before I closed my eyes, our noses brushing each other’s before we parted as the dance finished

“Everyone, outside. I have a surprise for you all” Lady Featherington said as she walked into the room. Anthony and I continued to stare at each other, our hands still holding on as everyone passed us to go outside.

The queen stopped in front of us, smiling knowingly, we bowed before her “I may have the wedding I wanted after all, Miss Y/n” She left leaving me to stare after her shocked . Anthony chuckled, I hit his chest

“Do not laugh” I walked outside with the rest, Anthony’s chuckles still sounding behind me, I smiled after I was out of his view. Okay, I must admit I like his insistence, it is no crime to make a man chase after you is there? Makes you feel more important.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

I walked through the garden as everyone walked further on. A hand burst through the shrubbery and pulled me into another path where nobody was able to see.

“Marry me”

“Anthony” I laughed as he pulled me closer to his chest

“Why do you keep on denying my proposal? Your sisters and mother already gave me their blessing-“

“When did you even ask them?” I chuckled in disbelief

“A few moments ago, but that does not matter” he huffs “marry me, stop with all your worrisome thoughts and just accept. I will be the best husband you will ever have-“

“I can only have one husband” I mused chuckling

“Exactly!” He nodded his head “I will be the best husband you will ever have had that you will not even think of having another man as your husband”

“You know, this days I am just seeing a new side to you that I did not even know you possessed”

“Yes, I did not even know I could be like this” Anthony chuckled “ You know what, I do not even care that you keep on rejecting my proposals, you know why?” I hummed

“Because I am going to keep on insisting and insisting until you give in. I am going to pursue you, bring you flowers and properly court you. I will even get on my knees if you want. I will make a fool out myself in front of everyone. Because you are worth it”

I smile before wrapping my arms around his shoulders and pulling him into a kiss. He pulled me even closer, not even letting go when I went to pull back. I pulled away, smiling mischievously.

“Then go ahead, Viscount Bridgerton. I will be waiting. Let us see if you do manage to make me accept your proposal”

I give him one last kiss before walking away.

It is never a crime to make a man chase after you.

Pall Mall

We all know the great lenghts a young lady would go in pursuit of a proposal, and apparently she will travel great distances too.

Lord Anthony Bridgerton appears to be inching ever so closer to selecting his Viscountess, and to that end, has invited our diamond to join him for an excursion at his ancestral home, Aubrey Hall.

Country air indeed, clears the mind, and invigorates the body. Might this be the final gust that pushes the Viscount over the precipice of a proposal?

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“A week, at Aubrey Hall, how marvelous” I exclaimed, looking out the windows of the carriage we were currently riding in.

“Perhaps, I’ll wear my pink silks at dinner tonight” Edwina wondered

“Whatever you wear, you will look beautiful, Bon” I smiled at her

“Do you think Lord Bridgerton will like it?” Edwina asked us

“Of course he will, Bon” Kate assures her

“ you need not worry about the Viscount’s favor, Miss Edwina” Lady Danbury tells her “ It is an exceedingly good sign, that he’s invited us to spend a few days with the family, before the rest of the ton arrives for the real party” we all chuckle

“Perhaps by then, you will have an engagement to announce” Mama cuts in, my smile dimmed ever so slightly, before I brightened it once again.

“ he will be assessing me, I know. Considering how I may perform as Viscountess” Edwina said boastful

“And he should not be the only one” Kate advises “You too must consider, if Lord Bridgerton is everything you want in a match as well”

“Of course he is, Kate” I argued “ The Viscount is a wonderful person” I nodded

“How would you know?” Kate questioned “You have not spent much time with him”

“Perhaps not” I agreed “ but we send each other correspondence too often, he is most definitely everything i- Edwina, wants in a man”

“He sends you letters?” Edwina asks confused “ Why does he send you letters?, he does not send me letters” Mama and Lady Danbury sent each other looks

“I- well- I do not know Bon” I murmured “ You know the Viscount, he prefers action over words, and we talked about you, your likes and dislikes, I was helping him to know more about you” She nodded, more content after my explanation

“Besides,” I started “ Anthony and I are friends as well, it is not a crime to share letters with your friends now, is it?”

“Anthony?” Mama asked “You call him by his given name?”

“It is not a big deal, mama. As I said, we are friends, we should all pass the week with open minds” I gave Kate a look

“ I should be the very picture of amiability” Kate agrees

“Very well,” Edwina smiled “ pink it is”

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“Now, the only reason to endure such a journey” Lady Danbury exclaims as she steps out the carriage, us stepping out behind her

“You remember Edwina and Kate” Mama said to Lady Bridgerton while I looked around “ And Y/n” I bowed when I was called

“Of course, how nice to see you again, sweetheart” I smiled at her “Thank you, once again, for coming over for tea last week, Eloise was most happy that her new friend could join us” She thanks me

“Of course, how could I not” I said “ After all, we may become family soon" I winked at her, she laughed before starting a conversation with mama.

I looked at the house once again, walking forward as my eyes wondered over the beautiful home.

“You’re smiling” someone said

“Anthony” I greeted smiling brightly “ You have a marvelous home, I have never seen such a beautiful house” he looked at the house

“ Yeah, I guess it is beautiful, the place I feel more at home now, which I am sure you already know, as I have told you before “ he nodded chuckling

“I just hope I do not get lost, God knows all the times I have gotten lost at Lady Danbury’s home, and I’ve lived there for some time now” we both chuckled at my comment

“Do not worry, I won’t let you get lost, although, I’ll tell you a secret” he stepped closer, as if sharing some secret that everyone else should not here “I have also gotten lost here, and I’ve lived here for nine and twenty years ” we laughed loudly, once again

“And you must be Miss Edwina” One of his sisters said as she approached us, we turned to look at her “You most certainly are as beautiful as Anthony described you, I can see why he is smitten with you”

“Oh no” I denied with wide eyes “Lord Bridgerton and I are just friends, I am Edwina’s sister, Y/n” I contested, smiling at her humorously

“Oh forgive me, Miss Y/n” She apologies, I shook my head, reassuringly

“Although I am quite flattered, your grace” I bowed respectfully, feeling Anthony’s eyes on me“ Allow me to introduce my sister, Miss Edwina” I called over to Edwina, who approached us

“It is an honor, your grace” Edwina bowed, I looked over to the side, seeing the duchess’s baby.

“Oh!” I exclaimed, they looked at me startled “ Is this your son, your grace?” I walked over to the baby as Daphne nodded happily

“If I may?” I asked Lady Danbury, who was holding him, she smiled and handed him over to me

“Oh how cute!” I said I’m awe, holding the baby carefully, and walking towards the side of Daphne, as Edwina and Anthony continued their conversation “Just look at him, he is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen” I complimented, feeling the other’s eyes on me

“Thank you” Daphne said happily

“Well now, you must be weary from your travels” Lady Bridgerton commented “Mrs. Wilson, show our guests into their rooms so they may get refreshed” She ushers us in the house

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“This will teach Colin, last time he put a wicket behind the goat barn” Daphne exclaims shoving a wicket down on to the grass

“What exactly are the rules of this game?” Kate asks as we trailed behind her

“Pall mall is less about rules, more about the goal” Daphne answers “ which is, of course, to hill your ball through each wicket, the first player to send their through the last wicket wins, simple enough”

“Something tells me, it is not that easy” I said making Daphne nod, chuckling

“Though if you are feeling devilish, you can use your turn to knock an opponents ball far enough from their next wicket as you would like” She added

“Why lose a turn, if the point is to get ones own ball through the wicket” Edwina wondered confused

“Oh bon” I shook my head chuckling “ I am sure that is the fun part of the game, infuriating your opponent”

“Precisely, it is a poor player who plays the game and a wise one who plays their opponent” Daphne smiled

“ Why I would like to play this game, I am rather weary from the journey, so if I may be excused, I am going to sit down with Lady Danbury, Lady Bridgerton and mama” Kate excused herself and went to sit down

“Just you and me, Bon” I put my arm over Edwina’s shoulder “ I am going to enjoy playing this game” I said smiling

“Right, now Benedict is a solid shot but he avoids conflict” Daphne informs us as we kept walking “Colin is crafty, he will strike when he thinks you are least expecting it, so, always be suspecting it. Eloise, concentrates entirely on defeating her older brothers, the hope is that she gets so absorbed in them that she completely forgets about you” we looked at the rest of the siblings who were coming on to the field

“I, of course, am a complete enigma who will divulge none of my own secrets, and there is Anthony, -“

“The most ruthless, cutthroat player” I cut her off, Daphne looked at me impressed

“Why you have made his acquaintance” Daphne expresses “That is not to say he has no honor, he is usually the most gentile sportsman, except as far as this field is concerned” Daphne added once she saw Edwina’s face

“I’m sure the Viscount is an excellent player, we will pass a most excellent afternoon” Edwina said

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“Let us toss a coin” Colin offers

“You promised this year you would let the youngest pick first” Eloise argued

“We pick based on Alphabetical order” Anthony argued back, I laughed amused at their fight

“It is meant to be a game, is it not?” Edwina whispers to me making me laugh once again

“Perhaps” I said making them quiet down “You should let us pick first, seeing as we are your invited guests, are we not?” They hummed thoughtfully

“Yes” Anthony agreed “That would be better” the rest nodded in agreement

“Take your pick first, Bon” I urged Edwina. Edwina walked forward, pointing to the blue mallet.

“Yes, and excellent choice” Anthony said, grabbing the mallet and holding it out for her to take

I walked forward, stopping in thought for a second, before grabbing the black mallet.

“The mallet of death” Eloise said with raised eyebrows

“Would you look at that brother?” Benedict said to Anthony teasingly, I looked at them in surprise

“Is this yours?” I asked Anthony, he shook his head

“No, No, you’re welcome to it” Anthony answers as the rest of the siblings looked at him surprised

“You nearly threaten to beat me the last time I touched tha-“

“You exaggerate” Anthony cut Colin off

I chuckled, in a competitive mood “Are you the superstitious sort? I know some men cannot perform without their familiar tools, like a child without a blanket” The siblings laughed amused at my comment

“I can play perfectly well with any mallet” Anthony argued, surprised but amused at what I said

“I can grab another if you would like” I offered, he shook his head again

“It is alright, you can take it” Anthony smiled at me “Truly, I insist” he added once he saw me open my mouth to object. I nodded, going back to my spot

“Are we to be around liberating all day, or should we play?” Eloise huffed.

The siblings looked at each other before lunging for their mallet, leaving Anthony the pink one. I laughed, holding the black mallet out towards him, he gave me a look making me retreat it back. Then we moved forward towards the track.

We played, Edwina and I having the first shoot, and after, it was the youngest to oldest. After Anthony, who hit it with too much strength, it was my turn.

“Didn’t practice much, did you brother?” Benedict teased

“My turn” I said competitively, I got into position, hitting the ball softly, it going perfectly between the wicket. I cheered, jumping up and down happily. I looked at Anthony smugly, he shook his head amused, clapping proudly. And we continued with the game.

“Eloise, stop cheating!”

It was Anthony’s turn once again, he knelt down, observing the wicket carefully, before standing up and hitting the ball. Unfortunately it was, once again, a poor shot and ended up hitting the potted tree nearby.

“Do not worry,” I said, reassuringly as I took my place “ You will be able to shoot it between a wicket at least once” I shoot and hit it perfectly.

“Are the demands of the day affecting your game, brother?”

“Not a chance” Anthony looked over to my sister, walking towards her “Miss Edwina, o believe you’re next, I did not wish to leave my ball in your path, so I’ve left an open space, so you can send yours”

“Oh yes” I interjected “ And it was on purpose, most definitely was not because he did a bad shot or anything” I taunted, the Bridgerton siblings laughed, while Anthony only looked at me

“Miss Y/n! Do not out me in front of your sister” Anthony said playfully, us laughing once again, this time, him joining us

Edwina hit it but unfortunately it hit the side of the wicket and bounced to the side, we clapped for her anyway.

The other 2 brothers walked off towards their ball taking their turns. Once it was Eloise’s turn, Lady Danbury approached us and gave her some pointers.

“There now Eloise, send it” Eloise hit the ball, sending it perfectly between the wickets, we cheered for her

We all continued with the games for some time, it finally coming down to me, once again, I looked at my ball and saw that Anthony’s was next to mine. I looked at him thoughtfully.

“You have the chance to best him” Eloise tells me while I walked towards my ball happily.

“That would not be very sportsman like, now would it?” Colin said

“That is the fun of it all” I tell him “Besides, I was told unsportsmanlike conduct was a requirement for this game” I looked at the duchess

“Fast learner you are, indeed, Miss Y/n” Daphne chuckled

“What do you say, my lord?” I asked Anthony “Are you in a loosing mood?”

“My mood, will remain unchanged regardless of your move” I pursued my lips, before nodding

“Then you should not mind this” I said before hitting my ball softly, it hitting Anthony’s and sending it off towards the forest. Everyone laughed, even Anthony, after it was all in good game. It definitely would have been different I’d Kate played

“I knew I liked her” I heard Eloise say behind me

“Miss Edwina, it is your turn” Edwina walked towards her ball, she hit it sending it towards the forest

“I am bested, I see” Edwina said dejected

“You can still retrieve your ball if you wish to stay in the game” Daphne informs her

Edwina looked at me questioningly, I smiled nodding. She looked out to the trees and made her decision. “I think I should cut out”

“I can get it for you, Bon” I offered “I’m sure they will not mind it, if you still want to play, I’ll get your ball” She smiled at me and shook her head

“It is alright” She bowed before the duchess and left. I looked at Anthony and nodded towards Edwina. He looked at me before leaving after her.

Anthony returned once it was Colin’s turn. Colin hit the ball, unfortunately sending mine where Anthony’s went a few moments ago. I shook my head, chuckling. After all, there was no point in getting mad or frustrated.

“What a shame” Colin said unapologetic “You two better go fetch them, unless you would like to quit, here and now”

“Not. A. Chance.” I said and walked off to retrieve my ball, Anthony following behind me.

“A good shot, was it not” Anthony said “ Shame I did not think of it before” I scoffed, pushing him playfully making him laugh, I laughed after him.

I looked back at the others, the rest except Daphne continued on, the duchess looking after us with an unreadable look on her face. I ignored it and looked forward.

We stepped between the branches and looked under them, the balls nowhere in sight.

“I know regret sending your ball here, they appear to be nowhere” I said as Anthony removed some branches from above, before groaning

“Dashing” he said. The balls were in the middle of a most beautiful sight. Not. In the middle of a puddle of mud.

“We could pluck them out” I looked at him “ no one would be none the wiser”

“But I would know” he said and walked off, I trailed after him.

“It is to watery” Anthony said, touching the mud with the stick part of the mallet

“We have no choice then” I said and pulled up my dress a little, and stepped into the mud, when I was in front of my ball, I hit it, getting it out of the mud, all while Anthony gaped at my action

“Your play, Anthony. Unless you do not want to dirty your boots” he gave me a look and stepped in. I held in my laugh when I saw him almost fall. He hit his ball and walked backwards to get out.

I smiled and stepped forwards before my foot stopped me. “Uh, Anthony, I appear to be stuck” I held out my hand for him to help me

He sighed and stepped into the mud once again, he pulled on my arm, tugging me backwards “ow” I exclaimed when he tugged to hard, hurting my hand

“Sorry, really sorry, but you are really stuck” he said apologizing

“Just keep tugging”

He grabbed on to my waist for better hold, he tugged once before we fell backwards, us squealing surprised. We sat up, I looked at him, he looked at me, before we burst out laughing

“Certainly the highlight of my day” I said between laughs, standing up and holding my hand out towards him to pull him up.

He grabbed onto my hand, laughing, I pulled him up, this time successfully. “Of course, jumping into mud is always so enjoyable” he said jokingly

He looked around before he set his eyes on something, looking at it intensely.

“Anthony?” I called out to him, I followed his eyes and saw a little spot, with a few benches and what looked to be a grave.

“Your father, is it not?” I said softly, he looked at me with an unreadable expression. Cheers suddenly erupting from the others, which we ignored

“I know that look in your eye” I tell him “It is the look of pain mama has when she thinks about apa, one that is present on Kate’s face so often”

“One that comes onto my face when I think of everything he is missing of our life’s. That he will never see me walk down the aisle, nor see the children that I will surely have. Or approve of my future husband and like him as much as I would” Anthony looked at me sadly, Holding my eyes, which were brimmed with tears.

“I know how you feel, tony” a tear dropped from my eye “I understand your pain, I feel for all of you as I, myself, know of the loss of a father we so clearly loved” Tears started brimming in his eyes

“Do not hold your emotions in, that is why we have our family, so they can support us, they would not judge you if you do. I may not remember much of him, but I remember something he always used to say. “ You cannot show someone your best-“

“-Without allowing them to see your worst” Anthony finished quietly “ My father also used to say that”

I held onto his arm and pulled him over to a bench were we sat down, side by side. Us sitting in a comfortable silence.

“He was stung by a bee” Anthony said after a few moments “ To see a great man felled by a such a small creature, it was, it was humbling to say the least” I rested my head in his shoulder, rubbing his arm comfortingly.

“Ever since, I’ve been scared, that I will live a short life such as him, as I cannot possibly overthrow him in age” he confesses “ My mother was destroyed when he died, she would not leave her room, not even when her newborn baby, Hyacinth, my youngest sister, cried out for her, she would not speak to anyone, she would not even eat” tears streamed down his face, my own mirroring his.

“ And I decided, that I cannot possibly marry for love, and then leave her destroyed at my inevitable death, I do not wish on anyone what my mother went through, I cannot put anyone through that pain, no one deserves that”

“So it is better that I marry, not because of love, but because of obligation, it is my duty, as a Viscount, to continue my bloodline. I cannot fall in love, I would certainly not do it willingly. And I apologize, I know that is not what you want for your sister, but that is all I can offer her, security, happiness but not because of love, but if what comes with being a Viscountess”

“I understand if you tell your sister what I just said, it is better that she has time to make her decision when I ask her” He stopped talking

Us sitting in silence, once more. No one has anything more to say, all consumed with thoughts. I do not know what to make of this, but one thing is sure, this talk only brought us closer.

And now that I have seen this side of him, definitely more closer to breaking me when he inevitably asks my sister to marry him.
