It was even funny to him.
Funny that the man who married her was also the man to put her in her grave. Funny that the perpetrator was also the inheritor. Funny that more water leaked from the pores of his forehead than his eyes.
That’s the way life is.
He was the type of person who, after burying his wife, would shrug and say, “That’s the way life is.”
He removed his scarf and hung it on the coat rack. The tips of his slender fingers ran over one button and fiddled with it, and then another, until his coat joined his scarf. His eyes wandered over to the tree in the corner of the room and he admired the lights and tinsel strung around it. His eyes lingered on the star on top as he walked around the couch to get a closer view, only for his foot to bump into something.
There sat his short, fiery partner by his foot. There was ribbon tied around Brea’s wrists and ankles, and a poorly tied bow on the top of her head that could have been done by none other than Jake, his mischievous best friend. A piece of duct tape covered her mouth. Surely he must have forced some concoction on her to negate her powers, otherwise he would have found Jake lying by his foot wrapped in gauze.
Despite the demon’s lack of mobility, she still thrashed this way and that, and her face was turning as red as the bow on her head. Alex let out a low chuckle and knelt in front of her. As he started to reach out for the bow, he saw a small card tucked in her shirt pocket. Alex pulled it out and recognized his best friend’s hand-writing.
No return policy.

Or:
-A mother wondering why her son's bracelet is still a cold color, unchanged from the day of his birth, only to receive a phone call from the hospital later that day, informing her of a car accident involving her son.
-The bracelet being somewhere in between a cold color and a warm color when (s)he dies, but the color still changes after death.
-A child is born with a clear bracelet.
-One day the bracelet stops changing color before it reaches white.
-A bracelet stops changing to warmer colors, and it starts reverting back to colder colors.
-A bracelet turns black before it reaches white.
-The bracelet actually changes color as the individual's feelings for his/her soulmate grows. A young woman who struggles to show her true feelings sees that her bracelet is a warm color and tries to hide it.
Soulmate AU

But, the closer you are/ get to your Soulmate, the brighter and warmer the colors it changes to. And then, when you reach/ find your Soulmate, the bracelet turns completely white. But once your Soulmate dies, the bracelet turns completely black.
