This is my main blog. I do have a few side blogs for my writing and crafting (and my cat). Originally, this was a sims 2 blog, but now I post about reading and just about anything I’m thinking. I hope you’ll join me! I’m going to try to be more consistent in 2023.

Uh-oh... Mal, there may be things in there you don't want her to know yet. Not without context, anyway.

It’s not the best idea, I agree, but Malcolm is pretty sure he’s ready for Abby to know about all that. He can fill in the context before she really reads the book anyways. And she might not get through it. Malcolm I was a great man, but he was also quite proud and convinced that his legacy would last. The book reflects that. Like he said, Malcolm fell asleep when he was reading it as a teen. (That might explain why he got such a surprise later.)
In any case, Abby’s not going to start reading the book until after the house tour is done, and I think Malcolm intends to give her a bit more family history and some context along the way.

Emotion Prompt: Hurt
Malcolm is feeling hurt because of Abby.
Malcolm’s hands had stiffened on the edges of the newspaper, his knuckles turning white. The thin pages were crumpling in his fingers. It would have been easy to tear the whole thing into pieces. It would have been so easy, except that he was frozen, numb, unable to do anything but read the words over and over again.
Phrases kept popping out at him. “...looking for love in all the wrong places.” “...my efforts finally paid off...”
Had it all been a lie? A farce? A trick, just to get the inside scoop? Was she that ruthless? That heartless? How could she have lied to him? How could she have...He had been so sure! He had been so certain that she loved him the way he loved her. It had only been a season, but he had been certain. After last night...He had entertained the thought of going to the bank for the ring. And now...
He closed his eyes against the words on the page, but it was as if he could hear her voice in his head, reading them.
“Mr. Landgraab seems content to profit from his family legacy, joking about all the ‘important work’ he does taking calls from his business employees and ‘other annoying people’. Said employees report that Mr. Landgraab has been heard yelling on his cell phone at his businesses.
Apparently, Mr. Landgraab is not as keen on the actual rules of his family legacy, which legally require that he marry within a certain time frame. Mr. Landgraab said that ‘the marriage rules are driving me nuts’.
Those rules, according to Mr. Howard Fleming, the Landgraab family lawyer, and the autobiography of Malcolm Landgraab I, require the heir to marry within a certain time frame or lose everything his family has built. The current Mr. Landgraab is running out of time. Will this reporter be the woman to help him keep what he has? Unlikely, readers, but only time will tell.”
He wanted to find her. He wanted to scream at her, shake her, demand that she take it all back and apologize. How could she do this? How could she betray him like this?
Was I only a story to you? he wanted to ask. Was I only a chance for you to get a big break at work? Was it all a lie, an act? Did you ever even like me, or did you just pretend so you could twist my words and take things out of context and stab me in the heart?
His fingers finally tore the newsprint. The paper fluttered out of his hands and floated to the floor. Malcolm brought his hands to his face instead. He had lost everything.

Mwah-ha-ha-ha! I was hoping for an alien abduction at a certain household in Bluewater but I didn’t think it would happen so soon! Mwah-ha-ha! I love it!

In Malcolm’s childhood bedroom, Abby immediately picked up the worn stuffed bear from the bed. “Aww, look at the widdle bear! This was yours when you were little, wasn’t it? Look at him!” She wiggled him around and put on a high, squeaky voice. “I’m Widdle Malcolm’s Bear, Mr. Fuzzkins! I was there when he was just a cute widdle kid and I know all his secrets!” Do you think he’ll tell them to me?”
“His name is Mr. Bear and he and I have a deal,” Malcolm said, gently taking the teddy away from her. “He doesn’t tell my secrets and I let him stay here instead of going to the thrift store.” He set it down on the top of the dresser. “Anyways, I didn’t tell him any of the really important secrets. I stopped confiding in him when I was eight.”
“Oh?” Abby smirked and moved closer. “Who do you tell your secrets to, then, Mr. Landgraab?”
“I might let a few slip to my beautiful girlfriend,” Malcolm said, wrapping his arms around her, “but not in front of Mr. Bear.”
“Well then, why don’t we continue this tour in whichever master bedroom is yours?”
“Right this way, madame.”

Thanks, everybody, for your amusing reactions to the Landgraab drama! The round ends this week and there’s only more drama to come. I look forward to your reactions!
Replies under the cut for @didilysims, @katrisims, @raptorsims, @holleyberry, @foxglovesims, and simminginsilence. I eagerly await your reactions to the end of the round. :)
On Alien Abductions

Checo? I'm trying to guess by the house, but I don't remember Bluewater houses well enough... But congrats on the aliens! :D
It wasn’t Checo, although I’d like to get him abducted at some point too. We’ll see what’s in his random generator this round.
I think the house in the background there was actually Malcolm’s house (although he wasn’t the lucky abductee either; that could be fun), but that wouldn’t have given you much of a clue. The Delarosa, Tinker, Ramirez, and Larson houses are all across the street from the Manor, although you’d have a time seeing it from the Larson house.
On Abby and Malcolm

Ow! I was really not expecting this. Poor Malcolm!

That is just so sad.....

I watching through a little slit between my fingers, hands over the eyes.
Poor, poor Malcolm. I’ve really been quite mean to him. He needs hugs.

And that ends the drama-filled Landgraab round. Look below the cut for a bit of behind-the-scenes talk about the twists this round took.

I always intended for Abby to turn on Malcolm. At least, I did when i started thinking about this round. I knew I wanted her to use him to get a story for the paper and get ahead in her career. The bit with Fleming being her uncle came at the end, as I was thinking about her motivations. At the moment I don’t know how much of what she did was influenced by her own ambition and how much was influenced by her uncle, but he definitely had something to do with it. (If nothing else, he explained the legacy rules to her when she asked about them.) We’ll have to see if she’s remorseful, and if Malcolm will forgive her if she is.

Initially, when I went to play and write the round, it didn’t turn out that way. I actually ended up with a really sappy storyline that involved Malcolm confessing his love and preparing to propose to Abby. I actually moved her in in-game (although she’s been moved out again since then) and built a bank for Malcolm to go get The Ring from and everything.

In the end, though, it was too sappy and cliched. I really did want to go with the twist I’d come up with, so I went back and tried again. I got my twist and I am happy, even if Malcolm isn’t. In game, I did have him yell at Abby, in case anyone was wanting to see that. He needs to hate her for next round and just reading the paper won’t actually do it. She doesn’t look too remorseful in that picture (but that isn’t staged, so...)
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this. I had a lot of fun writing it up, and I can’t wait to figure out what happens next. I’m not sure if we’ll see any reactions to the newspaper article in the rest of the households this round, but maybe. It’ll mostly depend on where the stories take me.
Up next, a household with decidedly less drama than this one. Let’s go see what Florence Delarosa is up to, shall we?
