“It’s not a lot,” he mumbled.

In your hands was a grocery bag that he had just previously handed to you. It was your six month anniversary. Something you’d both been excited for, but he did show some anxiety as the day approached.

When your gaze became fixed on him, he looked away.

“You can open it instead of staring, you know.”

It wasn’t the first time you’d seen him flustered or shy, but it still made you grin when the cocky and sometimes arrogant Ruggie Bucchi would get all red from being watched.

You sat down on your dorm bed, while he didn’t seem to follow you. Though you found it odd, you were just too excited to see what the contents were.

“Just— don’t expect too much, alright?”

You ripped open the bag after struggling a bit with the tightly done knot. And in the bag, he was right. There really wasn’t a lot.

But what you did see, was random items of unknown origin. Keys that lead to who knows where, rocks that you assumed he found from the ruthless chores he completed, and even colored and patterned bookmarks and scraps of paper.

“You mentioned that you liked crafting, so being the generous boyfriend I am, I figured I’d surprise you.”

The longer that you stared at the contents of the bag, the more nervous he got.

“Because I love you. So can you say something?”

He’s very protective of what he believes to be his, and luckily for him, you permit this act of desire. How could you not when you are given treatment from him that no other has received. A seat by his side, without judgment.

Of course, you are not easily escaping his teasing as he calls you clingy when you sneak into his bed. But you can make him go a bit quiet in some occasions.

Such as the very day when you were sure he was asleep. You crawled into your side of his bed, designated for you only. And whispered in his ear, playing with his hair. “You’re mine, Leona, and I’m thankful that you can call me yours as well.”

You closed your eyes, drifting to sleep, while he laid awake. Shocked by the sudden knowledge.

He had something all to himself. Someone, who he won’t have to worry about losing.

“You don’t even care, do you? You never do, and probably never have.”

The woman in front of you didn’t even appear hurt, simply maintaining a face of indifference. But inside, her mind was racing. When you’d invited her to this beautiful forest, she’d expected a grand gesture of a date, as you’d done in the past. Not your decision to end your relationship.

“I do care, quite a deal,” she moved her hand up, to cup your face. Perhaps to even talk you out of it, as foolish as it was. But you stepped away from her.

And spoke with tears brimming your eyes, “which is why you can’t even pretend to be affected.”

You humans were so conflicting. You were the one who broke up with her, and now you’re crying over her. Even as you faced the ground, she knew your face was puffy and red. As it usually had been when you broke down.

“Because, I learned how to maintain my composure, after so long of practice.” What you didn’t know, was how badly she wanted to hold you, teasingly comforting you as she’d done many times before. “If you’re simply trying to leave for my seemingly lack of care, then I cannot make you stay. But I do implore you to think.”

“If I didn’t care, why would I stay with you for so long, dear?”

Neuvillette made a vow to give you pleasure, in any way you wanted. As you were the one on the receiving end, he made it his goal to offer you whatever you desired in that very moment.

But that night.

When you told him you wanted him to be rough with you, handling you with no regard for your feelings, he felt at a loss. But he couldn’t let it show.

You needed him, and he was a man of his word.

The following morning, he woke up first. And when he got up with the intention of making you breakfast, and just showing you the comfort and reassurance you denied the night prior, he saw the aftermath.

Clothes tossed haphazardly onto the floor in piles. Stains soaked into the sheets and blankets that he pinned you onto. And he hated it, so much. But what he despised much more, was glancing at you and seeing the marks he’d left. Scratches and bruises, with no attention spent on ensuring your enjoyment.

It was what you asked him to do. He had to keep reminding himself of that. But in what universe was degrading and belittling the one he holds so dear acceptable?

And as rain began to pelt the windows of your shared bedroom, Neuvillette realized he truly didn’t understand the human mind.

There you were, in your usual spot of his passenger seat. As you sat down to put on your seatbelt, you heard him snort.

“Might as well get ‘passenger royalty’ as a tattoo with how often you take up that spot.”

It’s not like you couldn’t drive. You very much could, although your confidence in comparison to the volleyball player was no match, which meant in his eyes, you weren’t ready to “handle him.” Whatever the hell that meant.

“Okay, smart guy, does that mean you want to be the passenger princess?”

His grin only widened at your reply. He loved this. He loved you. You weren’t afraid to be a smartass or joke with him.

Something in him, though, made him choose to hold his tongue in reply. Not because he was afraid of anything, but simply because this was a night drive to calm you two. Wouldn’t be too calming if it was full of bickering.

“Alright, alright, weirdo. Put on some music or something.” Looking at you in the corner of his eye, he could see how excited you were as he pulled out of the driveway to your place.

“If you don’t like this playlist, I may actually jump out the window at 50 miles per hour. Or throw you out.”

Beside you, your bestfriend just whistled

“I’d like to see you try to throw me, and on the flip side, I can just throw you in the back with child-locks.”

Even when you doubted if he could really lift you or hold you, he always proved able. The asshole would go as far as to say you were crushing his spine before carrying you with absolute ease.

“Whatever,” you sighed. You just hooked your phone up to the car and prepared the playlist. It was originally your plan to confess through this playlist. But with how teasing he was being, maybe you’d hold off. “What do you think?”

“Geez, it’s only the first song and you’re already asking? It’s like you’ve been waiting for this,” he responded.

You don’t let your act break, yet.

“Perhaps I have, but you’re a lot of effort,” earning a dramatic sigh from him.

He sped up a tiny bit, before going back to the normal speed limit, just to watch you squirm a little in your seat. The asshole.

After couple songs, you guys arrived at your destination. It was a small park with a swing set. Although you weren’t sure how high you could really go, Suna was always trying to see who could get to the top.

You both undid your seatbelts, but he didn’t move from the car. He was waiting for something. You just couldn’t tell what it was.

“Rin, what are you doing?”

“Waiting to see if I’m right.”

“Huh?”

He took a second to reply.

“I like you, and judging by these songs, you like me too. Or I’m being a complete idiot.”

“Maybe you’re correct in both.”

“I can live with that, if it’s with you.”
