More Posts from Blackblooms
I was going to stream last week, but I got sick and I stayed sick. I am feeling much better this week though, and I hope to get a lot of streaming in! I'm hoping to finish Irredeamble by Blackbloom this week, and do more Lunar 2: Eternal Blue!
If you like indie games/retro games and sometimes just whatever I feel like playing! Come hang out at:
Sorry, i got busy with a bunch of things and wasn't able to make any other post for Pride Month. So for the beginning of this totally official shame month. Here is Maneater Megan, one of the 2 canonically straight characters of the game (Everyone else either is confirmed queer or has undisclosed but flexible sexualities so feel free to headcanon and ship to your heart's content)
I've noticed that Elden ring may be one of the first game where i was really invested in doing a faith build. I think the main reason for that is that in most fantasy game, Fromsoft included, the clerics aesthetic and story kind of just consist on generic light themes and off-brand Christianity which isn't very compelling to me. Elden Ring through gave me a set of religions that were a lot more compelling to learn about. There is already a lot to like about the Golden Order and its heavy tree aesthetic and complex history, but we also have the flame cultist of the fell god, and if you dont mind dabbling into arcane, the blood dynasty of Mogh, the heretical recusants who rebelled against the erdtree and even the followers of the frenzied flame are all options you can take. There a flavor of faith for every kind of people. It's also notable that the DLC expanded options further by including the fire knights of Mesmers and the hornsents with their crucible-themed holy magic. The latter is particularly interesting as both the hornsent and golden order using the holy element create a peculiar connection between them. Despite being enemies, the two religions seem to be very alike and may even have been united at some point.
Those are the kind of question that got me invested into faith builds in elden ring in the first place.
I could say though, for a fantasy world, there is nothing wrong in creating new animals for your world by just… changing animals from our world around.
Like, I created a type of bird in my story called the piebald swift. Swifts do not come in a piebald pattern, but they can in a fantasy world.
Never feel like you have to reinvent the wheel.
The stepping stone, an irredeamable post mortem
A big challenge when making any creative product is being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of ideas you want to express. It can be very difficult to decide what will be part of the first story and what will have to remain unknown. Irredeamable was a particularly difficult case as i wasn`t only trying to make a cohesive world for the game itself, but the first building block of a greater setting that require its own lot of setups. In such conditions, everything felt important and it took a lot of restraint to cut things down until only a tease of the true scope remained. Overall, it was a huge mess to work out, but I'm happy with the result and i feel a lot more free and focused in the pursuit of my future projects now that the foundation has been set up to build upon and i can use the previous reveals to do a lot of foreshadowing with very little.
