Daily Diary Doodle - #002 - Of Forgetting

People talk about forgetting the sadness, but never the sadness of forgetting. We struggle to live for the future, because we know that the moment it's the past, it'll likely be forgotten within a day. It's dissociated into oblivion, lost to time, never to be remembered- and with the relatively high levels of aphantasia, we can't even picture it if we could.⠀ ⠀ We have to track everything we do every day, we track which Alters front, who did what, just to know that it ever even happened. We remember the plot of the big things, but so few details-- and even then, we can't trust if they were real.⠀ ⠀ It's been a sore subject lately. I record all our roleplay footage, because the moment it ends we've forgotten the majority; and this day it didn't save. I cried. I know it was a wonderful scene- a big moment for Phineas- but I'll never remember, fully, what I even did. Others get that memory, but I don't?⠀ ⠀ Photos, Videos, Physical Memories, are so important to us,⠀ because maybe then, we exist in some form of solidity.⠀

We're 28. We shouldn't have to live like this.⠀

Draw This in Your Style challenge - What's Mr. Joy Made Today?!

We're currently hosting a DTIYS challenge- with a twist.

If you accept the challenge, you get to draw the local neighbourhood Definitely Human (cough) ice cream man, Mr. Joy! He's something straight of the 1950s, and his ice cream is to Die for. But, despite that, he has this odd, insatiable hunger... and your people food just ain't gonna cut it.

1st prize will be a bust-shot piece akin to the DTIYS image.⁣

2nd prize is a lined sketch piece (if we get to 10 entries, it'll be coloured).

You have to draw both Joy and the Ice Cream. If you really can't think of a flavour, feel free to use the examples listed. You're also welcome to change the pose, background, make it creepier, etc. Just gotta be Joy and his Ice Cream.

the Ice Cream must be Non-Food based in flavour, and generally look inconspicuous. Sweet-based toppings are fine. Outside of meats, Mr Joy has a visceral reaction to savoury-salty based foods & condiments, so those are big no-gos.

🍦  Fun Joy Details

Joy has too much of one thing, and too little of the others: Four extra teeth, two on each side of his mouth near the back. The ring finger on his left hand is missing, having been cut cleanly from its base; the fourth toe on his left foot is also cut cleanly off. It's fine though; he still has ten toes (his right foot has six).

Joy always seems a little... melty, in the sunlight. Not too much, just in the droops of his wrinkles and such. And usually around the cold of freezers, his cheeks and nose are often a-blush; although... they're a-blush even in the warmth, too. Daily Diary Doodle - #001 - Oh Joy

One square book, 366 blank pages, and the life of many in one: the Doodle Diary! Last year we did around 200 drawings in all different mediums, expressions, and efforts, pushing ourselves to experiment more over anything. Yes, we didn't do all 366, but I'm damn proud that we got as far as that. ⠀ New Year, New Book; and this year it’s an exercise in restraint-- to understand that quick and scribbly is fine even in comparison to neat and perfect. Ultimately, we're trying to keep it more on the simple side: one or two mediums per, more typography, etc. Hopefully our social media will reflect that too; we’re trying to not be so specific on what we post, to lessen the grip of the algorithm mentally.

We’ve got some things from our Instagram queued up for the next few days. Not sure if there’ll be a consistent schedule or anything; it’ll all depend on if we continue passively using tumblr I imagine.

as said, Instagram is the best place to find us. But I wouldn’t say no to moving here a bit more, with how brutal the algorithm has been.

System sketches from the last year or so. Drawn by various Alters, of various Alters, and of our Inner World.

It’s been a stressful, insightful, eventful journey since the May of 2019, having found out we had Dissociative Identity Disorder. A lot of things started to make sense, but in that, a lot of things were new and unrelenting. Those ‘episodes’ we had suddenly had a name- dissociation- and those ‘overbearing reactions’ had a reason- emotional flashbacks- and god our host was in such heavy denial of it all for so long.

But eventually the confusion let up a little, and we started accepting it, and working together to find coping mechanisms, and using our openness of it all to help educate others and fight the stigma. Things got better, but it’s still been incredibly tough. So, to see if it helps piece the puzzles of our fragmented being together, we’ve tried to document things in amongst the forgetting.
