Keith Kogane! Sooo, these studies are so much fun to do, I will be doing other characters from different shows, and even more of Voltron. Just messing around with the color schemes to see how the feeling translates or differentiates.

Draw This in Your Style challenge - What's Mr. Joy Made Today?!

We're currently hosting a DTIYS challenge- with a twist.

If you accept the challenge, you get to draw the local neighbourhood Definitely Human (cough) ice cream man, Mr. Joy! He's something straight of the 1950s, and his ice cream is to Die for. But, despite that, he has this odd, insatiable hunger... and your people food just ain't gonna cut it.

💎 Deadline: January 15th

1st prize will be a bust-shot piece akin to the DTIYS image.⁣

2nd prize is a lined sketch piece (if we get to 10 entries, it'll be coloured).

Please post to the #OtherbuttonsDTIYS tag, and @ us. is DM us the entry with what's in the Ice Cream.

You have to draw both Joy and the Ice Cream. If you really can't think of a flavour, feel free to use the examples listed. You're also welcome to change the pose, background, make it creepier, etc. Just gotta be Joy and his Ice Cream.

the Ice Cream must be Non-Food based in flavour, and generally look inconspicuous. Sweet-based toppings are fine. Outside of meats, Mr Joy has a visceral reaction to savoury-salty based foods & condiments, so those are big no-gos.

🍦  Fun Joy Details

Joy has too much of one thing, and too little of the others: Four extra teeth, two on each side of his mouth near the back. The ring finger on his left hand is missing, having been cut cleanly from its base; the fourth toe on his left foot is also cut cleanly off. It's fine though; he still has ten toes (his right foot has six).

Joy always seems a little... melty, in the sunlight. Not too much, just in the droops of his wrinkles and such. And usually around the cold of freezers, his cheeks and nose are often a-blush; although... they're a-blush even in the warmth, too. All these arts were create in our local 'Draw This In Your Style' challenge. Any artist have their own advantages, and today our specimen to prove this, is... Julian Devorak.

This reference were included in our Dorian's story "Nec Deus Intersit" which you can find on... (unexpected move, lol) Dorian!

Nota Bene: the flowers in his hands is 'Aconitum napellus' or Wolfsbane, or Aconytes. Aconite is a poisonous flower which is canonically Julian's favourite. There's no mentions in the plot of the Arcana Game, but in the our story this plant plays a pretty big role.

Due to its properties (as known as "the Queen of Poisons" ), wolfsbane was associated with the darkest pages of human history and mythology.

"Ancient mythology suggested that Hecate, goddess of magic and spells, invented wolfsbane for her witchcraft. An alternate story insists that the poison came from the slobbering of three-headed Cerberus, the dog protector of the underworld.

Wherever wolfsbane came from, it was much used. Athena reportedly employed it to transform Arachne into a spider, and it was Medea’s poison of choice to knock off Theseus.

Shakespeare called wolfsbane a “venom of suggestion” to break up relationships. More recently, in Game of Thrones, it was complicit in an assassination. Romans favored the herb as a method of execution and Greeks forced senile seniors to use it for involuntary euthanasia. Both Socrates and Alexander the Great might have been victims of this plant’s poison; forget what you heard about hemlock. A very dark history indeed.

The association of wolfsbane with the underworld goes deeper. It is believed to protect against Dracula and werewolves when worn around the neck or kept in the home. Usage can also lead to lycanthropy. the belief that one can turn into an animal and, more specifically, a wolf or werewolf. This shape-shifting theory is one accounting for the name wolfsbane, as is the thought that it can kill both of those creatures.

Biologically, wolfsbane works as a neuro- and cardiotoxin. Its effects resemble those of rabies and it doesn’t take much, or long, to prove fatal. For this reason, wolfsbane has been used not only on people but also for hunting, by treating arrow tips with the plant material such as its sap or powdered root."

@paigecofferillustration So @enjoliquej introduced me to this Draw This In Your Style challenge and she was right about one thing, this char is definitely my aesthetic. Kinda a scrubby paint thing I tried to neaten it up a bit, but it’s still pretty scrubby... Maybe I’ll come back to it later and touch it up again, I don’t know >.e I’m about ready to be done with it though. Probably ain’t gonna win any awards for this piece of work, but it was a really nice study in color theory and how these things worked together~ Twas fun!

I got super carried away with it lol, it was supposed to be a simple piece, but alas. I blame my discovery of hue jitter brushes for this. It makes it look like I understand color theory!

I took WAY TOO LONG to finish this but I finally did hahaha 🙏 it was pretty fun, I really loved her design!

I tried experimenting a bit with the rendering too :) also those little lights are supposed to be fireflies!

Such intricate details, the way you color in eyes and sculpt faces with color is really beautiful!! Thank you SO much for joining in, this whole piece is one of a kind!!!
