The light pink hue of the sky was pretty, as the beach walk enrolled, the conklin/fisher/y/l/n family usually took a nice relaxing stroll on the beach at the start of the summer.

Conrad and y/n were close, like very close the too befriended each other quite fast when the first met, at the beach house around 12 years ago.

Recently, the two discovered that they felt something more than just friends and they explored this and became a thing. But there was downsides to this.

Belly conklin, didn’t approve. Her childhood crush on the boy seemingly increase as time went on, but when Conrad and y/n showed up to the annual beach house trip hand-in-hand, the hatred for the y/l/n girl increased.

First it was the, laughing and giggling whenever one of them said something, or whispered something in each others ears.

Or it was the kissing, and the fact that belly could hear them giggling while they made out in her room disgusted her. It wasn’t fair, what it y/n have that she didn’t.

Next it was the fact she’d sit on his lap, on the couch, on the beach while they were sitting on a floaty, or they would always choose each other for chicken in the pool, when belly was gonna go for Conrad.

Being a bitch to y/n was not on her bingo card for this year, she liked the girl, not a lot, but she still put up with her so when belly snapped at the couple one day after they came in from the pool giggling about whatever they had done outside, she snapped.

“Could you guys be anymore cliche?” She spat standing up from the sofa “what?” Y/n’s smile dropped turning her attention from Conrad to belly “seriously, why do you guys have to be kissing, and touching each other all the goddamn time” she huffed crossing her arms over her chest.

The sun had set, and the two kids sat side by side staring into the water as it glimmered against the moonlight, her head turned looking at the blonde-headed boy she called her best friend.

He shined, like the stars. She thought as she admired how pretty he was, although the two had no clue what the hell love was or hormones yet. She felt funny.

Although her family were kooks they were the most loving people ever. Excepting her and her little friend JJ Maybank she had met at the park, and she beg beg and beg her parents to let her go to the same school as him.

One Friday evening after pre-school, the four sets of parents had invited the Maybanks round for a dinner, obviously Before everything had happened with JJ’s mom passing away and his father becoming an asshole.

The two of the kids had ran off somewhere, carrying on just like kids do, when the two dads had spoke up. “They’re gonna realise their love for each other I bet you!” Y/n’s father said “he’s the only one I’d accept and trust with my daughter” he smiled at the Maybank family. 

“Very funny” her mother laughed making the mom’s roll their eyes at the two dads “it’s true! The two of them will, I bet” Luke spoke agreeing with her dad making the women roll their eyes again laughing at the men.

“Not gonna lie, I kinda see it happening aswell” JJ’s mom turned to look at y/n’s mom as the dads were off in a separate conversation “don’t tell them, but same” the women laughed watching the kids from a distance.

Now the two currently sat playing truth or dare after she bet him in the video game the two were playing “truth or dare, Jay” she said leaning on the bean bag “dare” he said copying her actions.

She sat in thought for a couple seconds as an idea had popped into her head “I dare you to kiss me!” She said before bolting out of the tree house, Him hot on her tail as he chased her around the yard laughing out loud when she almost tripped over her bike that way laying next to his.

No longer the little kids the two of them intended to be, at her sweet sixteenth birthday party, y/n and JJ had snuck away down to the beach to relive some old memories, it was dark as the two snuck down “crazy how we’re not kids anymore” she sadly smiled and sat down after placing a towel down to not ruin her dress.

“I know, least I got to spend the years with you huh” he said. Now, the two teenagers had turned into hormonal snot nosed teenagers, that smoked and drank against her parents wishes.

JJ had turned into, the islands heart throb, with girls. Y/n hated it, she hated all the attention he got, she missed when she was just hers and no one else’s.

As for y/n she had turned into a respectful young woman, but her and JJ were at different ends of the social spectrum but the still hung out when the could, obviously they had made more friends like now the two of them were Pogues, hung out with John B, pope, and kiara, ( who was another kook, like her ). Pope and kiara were the only ones who hung with her at school, but John B and JJ had their own friends.

But it was fine, she still loved JJ the same and maybe even more, and maybe just maybe he felt the same way about her.

The rest were asleep or out at the beach doing god knows what “you look pretty” he breathed out still stairing at her lifting his sunglasses up “are you high?” He laughed at her “maybe just a little” he shrugged

Pink and purple sky’s is what summer in cousins beach brought. Hot days and cold nights were always perfect, especially getting to see her- all time childhood crush shirtless when swimming at the beach houses pool.

Jeremiah and y/n, were close, but not as close as belly and Jere. So when figuring out he likes her, it came as a shock when he walked into her room, laid down on her bed and confessed that he liked belly, she cried when he left that night. 

Conrad fisher, also likes belly apparently. Which is why she resorted to walking into his room after finding out belly and jere had kissed on the beach the night before.

“I can’t do much with the bruise JJ, it’ll get worse before it gets better, okay?” She smiled slightly as the sun kissed boy sat down on her toilet “why did you come here JJ?” She said leaning against her counter “no one else was up” he mumbled “oh” a frown over took her face.

“I’m sorry” she frowned again “for what? It wasn’t your fault” he dryly said getting up from his spot on the toilet “yeah but-.” She said “no, y/n it’s none of your business what goes on in my life. Black bikini and white shorts, is what she chose from her closet and light make up as in mascara and lipgloss. She quickly grabbed her tote as she made her way downstairs to her back lawn, walking down the dock. She was early for once. As she stood there she couldn’t help but thinking about JJ. After her extremely long shower, after sweating all day, it was nice. She turned the warm water off wrapping a towel around her body glancing in tue mirror before brushing her teeth, and doing her skincare routine before giving her hair a squeeze getting all the water out.

The tank top and shorts was a good option since it was meant to be a hot outerbanks night, which was normal in these months.

Her hair was still wet as she walked out of her bathroom, noticing her window was wide open and her curtains were pushed to the side, her eyebrows raised at the thought of someone breaking into her house while her parents were out of town. THE SUN WAS SLOWLY SETTING as the boneyard filled with more and more teenagers, Kiara and y/n chatting away about a recent movie the pair had gone to see at the cinema, when something caught her eye, it was JJ. She slowly tuned Kiara out, her eyes locked onto the prissy blonde he was flirting with.

“Y/n! Earth to y/n!” Kiara’s hand was waving back and forth infront of her face “are you listening?!” She said tapping her shoulder “yeah! Sorry” she threw her a sympathetic look

“See if you asked him out already, he wouldn’t be doing that” Kie said following her line of vision also spotting JJ flirting with the blonde, they watched as she touched his bicep as he said something funny

“He’s not even that funny, kie” she sighed standing up to get another drink, Kie following along “what have I told you y/n” she took Kie’s cup in her hand filling it up “I know but how am I meant to tell him Kie? He doesn’t even see me like that anyway” she shrugged

“Are you being serious y/n? Do you not see the way he looks at you?” She’s not being serious right? “No one- No ones in love with anyone” she turned around giving JJ a slight smile “why don’t you go back to your new girlfriend, looks like she’s waiting for you” He gave her a sarcastic smile pushing her shoulder “what’s that? Your fourth girlfriend this week?” She laughed “ha ha” he said “you seem jealous? Are you jealous y/n?” A scoff escaped from her lips as she rolled her eyes

“In your dreams Maybank” she sighed “anyways she’s just a friend anyway” he shrugged his eyes searching her face for any reacting “mhm…sure, anyone from a mile away could see she’s likes you”

“Just like you then..huh?” She froze again not noticing him slowly stepping closer to her “what?” She raised her brows “just like you” he repeated “I have no clue what your on about” the blood rushed onto her cheeks “I overheard you and Kies conversation” she was now, quite literally scarlet.

“How much did you hear?” She looked up at the boy “you like me?” He ignored her question his face softening “I-uh-well” she cleared her throat looking everywhere but him.

“No?” Her voice trailed “mhm” he nodded sarcastically “what? You really think I’d like you” she poked his chest, he caught her rest “you think I’m stupid” he tilted his head to the side lightly giving her a smirk “now why would you think that Maybank?” She copied his actions “cause you think I don’t know”

“You don’t” she shrugged feeling his free hand slip down to her waist pulling her closer “you think I like you..? Oh JJ you could sneeze and every girl would be fawning over you” she laughed “your a sight for sore eyes” he gave her a confused look “sight for sore eyes?” She raised his brows “it means your nice to look at” his smirk became wider

Due to how close he was, she could feel his breath on her lips, her eyes flickered to his lips then back up to his eyes, his gorgeous blue eyes.

“What are you doing?” She made no effort to move, he shrugged “just talkin’ to you” he said before a silence overcame them.

Before she new it, his lips found hers and the cup that was in her hand was now long forgotten as it fell to the ground the alcohol spilling over the sand as her arms reached up wrapping around his neck

“Do you still not like me?” He said as he pulled away from her “yeah I still don’t like you” she said before pulling him back into a kiss.
