gosh can i just talk about nygmobblepot in the context of ed being a system for a sec. disclaimer: i havent done a full rewatch of the show in a hot minute, im just drawing on what i remember. but imo, system ed is canon, but i dont think anyone in show really acknowledges that?

im thinking of all the times oswald refused to call Riddler by his name, calling him ed instead, and how bad that would feel to not get seen as a person, especially when ur already Extra(tm) the way Riddler is. and then the arkham scene when oswald with the letter finally does ask for riddler, and u can SEE the exact moment when they switch, ive watched that scene so many times. jeez, the way riddler might not have even been sure oswald would come get him, since he's refused to say his name before then.

i want Lee to connect the dots about ed and riddler being separate people, i want her to tell ed about it, i want ed to start thinking about it. because they know theyre different people, they talk to each other, they blame the other for missing time chunks, but it almost seems... compartmentalized. like they rarely mention theirselves as being different in conversation with people close to them, like oswald

i want oswald and his little analytical mind to truly understand that riddler isnt just a persona but a person, and run back through all their interactions, some things making more sense. i want him to keep shooting glances at ed out of the corner of his eye, re-contextualizing what he knows about him. i think he'd be very good at telling who's fronting, since he's so good at reading people, and the only times he can't is when theyre co-con or when they dont even know theirselves.

ed and riddler making peace, ed learning to trust, riddler learning to be trusted, them both pushing and prodding until they settle into some sort of new normal. oswald helping riddler choose his own wardrobe, getting caught in the middle of a riddle war- both ed and riddler vying to be the first to give oswald one that he cant solve.

oswald still in love, oswald more in love, ed and riddler climbing up the slope from hating each other to caring for each other, ed and riddler realizing they love oswald. riddler teasing ed because he figured out ed had a crush first. ed in denial but not for long, because riddler keeps trying to make out with oswald and if ed is really against this nows the time to say something- but he doesn’t say anything, because he doesn't want to, because he accepts the fact that he actually is loved and that he loves in return
