i’m looking for a book (or a short story from a book) that i remember from when i was a kid

not sure if it was real, but it’s stayed pretty consistent throughout my life. so it starts with a kid going to school. it’s one of the smaller ones i think (like one or two classrooms total) and we get introduced to the teacher, students, and cat.

i don’t remember much happening between this and the end of the story.

the story ends with the already old and battered cat getting in a fight, and the teacher putting it in a bag and drowning it.

she tells the students to go home early and to tell their parents that they learned how to kill a cat.

if any of you know what it’s called, any books it’s in, or even just vaguely remember it, please let me know! it’s been bugging me for YEARS.

my only knowledge of Batman comes from Lego Batman. and I’m okay with that.
