Unsteady theories of the cosmos
Slip-slide against each other.
Poems turn the earth on its head;
Poetry makes the world go round.

When god made the wheel,
Man put it to work (and himself).
Put your shoulder to the wheel -
Put your back to it!

She never expected the spokes to snap
Back to ancient spears
Only good for hunting.
If you'll hunt, I'll gather.
(But who gets the farm?)

As we wade through jellied time,
Life comes back around,
Shelling peas while living in pods,
The future is the past and the past is gone.
Throw anything at me -
All but a gasp is gone.
/
And when we're home,
You put your forehead to my spine
So my strength enters your dreams.
/
Nested realities furl in on themselves, and each other.
Worlds warp through the window as I turn my head.
I see lights in my tea and darkness in the mirror,
Ready to take on the night.
/
Keys grow like thorns through my fist,
Words imprint from the page to my skin,
But you can't press flowers in a kindle.
/
Let the cycle flow and retreat.
Reset and start here.
Why does softness hurt the worst,
Why do feathers break us down?
/
I offer up my vices, coffee and fantasy
Like memories of furtive kisses mine to keep
No longer.
(But the bruises are still so satisfying).
