I Think I Have Octavian Brainrot-

I think I have Octavian Brainrot-

I finally finished the toga stuff I was talking about a few hours ago!!

I Think I Have Octavian Brainrot-

I did some (arguably surface level) research to just find some quick information on both the pontifex toga (the one I really think of whenever I think ‘notable Roman priest toga’) and I tried to sniff around to see if there were any notable differences in priest togas (which I didn’t really find much, on clothing aspects at least) so I was messing around and based most of it on that famous Augustus statue, and then I drew a concept for an Octavian full body (I need to work on actually drawing full body’s more often) and then I did one final sketch that was more in line to what canon art and some of the descriptions of Octavian say about him.

I really wish I had enough to analytically look at the character in his canon and draw conclusions (I say @zazzander, and their amazing analysis of Octavian that has been feeding me 5 course meals in amazing writing) but I’m in the middle of Re-imagining Camp Jupiter and that means re-working an Octavian for my head canons and the project. But I hope I can talk more about him; not in as much as a serious way to explain and try and give my opinion of his character and what we can learn about him. But more of a build-off from his character, and using what information we’re given to expand on him; but just to a less refined degree as I am in no way a good writer or analyst.

I’m also totally taking the Deaf/hard of hearing Octavian headcanon and eating it. I’ll start drawing him with some form of a removable hearing aid once I actually educate myself on hearing aids for this purpose.

Also I might make some more OC art to go along with it; I have characters like Valeri (a daughter of Nike), Romulus and Remus (twin sons of Mars), Speedy (a child of Hermes, his actual name is like Sebastian). But I’ll probably draw more of them.

Also a note on how Octavian’s shoes are tied specifically because that looks a little funky; their tied in a way I tie up a lot of my shoes (wrapped excess lace around the ankle a few times before knotting it off) I do it for most active activities where I need to make sure my shoes will be connected to my feet; I don’t know if there’s any meaning to it, but I feel like Octavian (and most other Roman legionnaires; including especially ones that play soccer because tying my laces like that on my cleats is and actual godsend) do the same type of tie.

I live-!

It’s only been a day or two since I’ve posted; but that’s just because I’ve been doing school things and all that jazz; but I feel like there’s some cool things I should share; because really I think people just like having an unspoken community and support of other people who like writing for Octavian- and I love him too, but there’s only so much I can say about him without talking about my OC (who I love talking about, but no one really cares lol) however what I am going to do; seeing as I’m reading,

The Iliad; almost finished with it, and I’ll probably say some things (for any specifications I’m talking about the penguin deluxe version; translated by Robert Fagles)

The Odyssey; haven’t started yet, but I’ll do more update and post as I read versus the sort of retrospective I have to do with the Iliad

The Aeneid; I’ll read it after the Odyssey, and I’m excited because Rome is one of my special interests :] (it’s the best way I can put it, but Rome and the PJO franchise are my special interests) and I’m excited to just read a like good Segway into more older literary readings!

My class is also reading the first PJO book (tLT) and I’ve been annotating my personal copy (just sticky note flags) and I’ll probably talk about it (and just generally re-visit the OG series and see how my opinions have changed; if Luke still gets to be the favorite from the first series) so I’ll probably talk about that (Chapter 17 and Chapter 20 are my favorites and I get to read them!! Along with Chapter 21 which is rad too B])

TSOA; I’m holding off on reading The Song Of Achilles (mostly because I’m too scared to pick up my copy and actually read) but when I do work up my courage I’ll report back (just begging Thetis isn’t as bad as people tell me they interpreted her as)

ToA; wild I haven’t read Trials of Apollo I know; but I had to pause it to read the Iliad, Odyssey, and Aeneid- so I’ll get back to that and I’m really excited to, because of the Emperors and my (personal) favorite Emperor shows up (it feels weird to say I have a favorite Roman Emperor, but he’s really the one I like reading the most on, because I find him interesting; and no, I won’t be admitting it at the moment)

All of the companion books to PJO/HoO/ToA; not any of the spin-off series, but things like the guide books, Demigod Diaries/files, Greek Gods, Greek heroes, those ones :]

tKC(?); the Kane Chronicles, I’ll probably end up reading Magnus Archives first (because guys I heard Pansexual representation in Magnus and I need a new character to giggle about and I really wanna see Alex and TJ. Jr (feels like such a random and specific character but I’m just excited to see the silly)

Magnus Archives; as I said instead of talking about the Kane Chronicles (I might have to read the Graphic novels for those because the first chapter book could not hold my attention span but the first graphic novel did)

Also Sun and The Stars; I totally didn’t forget about this because I genuinely have an irrational dislike toward Nico; even though I love him I still disagree on a character level for him to kill off two characters I really like (one of which only gets like 2 pages of screen time) but I’ll try because I want more Bob content and I want it now! Also my friend marked all the Mr. D pages for me and that’s very nice

That’s all the books I can think of at the moment; then I have some projects too-

Lorica Hamanata(?); I’m too lazy currently to go look up the spelling, but I am working on making the Chestplate and I’ll probably fill people in while I do so

Cardboard Riptide; I’m making Riptide out of Cardboard! Haven’t worked on it in a while but I am :] I’ll show pics when I’m done

The Camp Jupiter/HoO/Maybe-just-Pjo/HoO/ToA re-imaging; uhhh, im working on it; I don’t know how many people want to see some random internet users re-imaginings of things like this- but I like having it down someplace

Probably more Octavian Sillies; I’ll probably write more on Octavian; he’s my favorite fictional character in general, I relate to him probably a little more than I should and I just like talking about my thoughts on him!

Calliope- my OC that got some posts that only my friend saw; she is probably a bad character but I love her and I think publicly showing her process is a good way to just improve my writing skills; which segways nicely to,

The Nine Au/HoO Au/ me and my friend arbitrarily shove our OCs into the seven and I try to make it make sense with their narrative arcs/ we also put a bunch of our different Ocs in there as background characters so there are minor characters; pretty much what I just said; my friend runs a mainly art-blog, but just know we both are working on this, and I do really want to talk about this because we put hard work into it and I want to share it

Okay; you (random audience I’ve decided that I apparently have) probably don’t care, and just like seeing me go ‘hehe this is Octavian, I like Rome :3’ and I also like doing that- but these are things I genuinely want to do and use my blog for!

(I’m also going to make a post about my headcanons on Camp Jupiter kids fatal flaws hc soon👀)

Anyway, byeeeeee!!

R O M E

I just was scrolling through tumblr and saw some Octavian fanart talking about traditional augury robes and my blood pressure spiked and my heart rate accelerated, my pupils dialated and I experienced true happiness-

I’m going to take this as an excuse to go research and draw my dude in his toga

(a visual of me running around my room at the mention of Rome or Octavian because they're so fun silly goofy

These Are Design Concepts For My OC Calliope, I Mentioned Her In My First Post (where She Looked WILDLY
These Are Design Concepts For My OC Calliope, I Mentioned Her In My First Post (where She Looked WILDLY

These are design concepts for my OC Calliope, I mentioned her in my first post (where she looked WILDLY different but my art style flips on a dime sometimes) but yeah! These are just some concepts for things like her face, hair (which I find hard) and basic layouts for things like moles & scarring. She is meant to be a Demigod and I have her placed at Camp Jupiter at the beginning of her story (arc? Idk)

But uh yeah! Her name is fully, Calliope Augustine Varus (yes; THAT Varus. I’ll explain that more, and this probably puts her teetering on the Mary sue status- and she is partially what I have scripted for my DR) but she’s meant to be the Granddaughter of Michael Varus, a daughter of Dionysus (yes- the Greek aspect, not Bacchus) and a legacy of Janus. Also born on June 21 (because that’s my birthday and i like it; and it’s a great plot device in her backstory- ‘it’s my tea party, I get to choose the rules’/j. Maybe I’ll say some bad excuse.)

Her whole spiel is that she went to Camp Jupiter at a younger age (not as young as Jason for her actual character and not DR but probably younger than 12. I’d put her as maybe nine) her mother was increasingly worried about the monster issues, as she chose to move from New Rome and not in any Demigod populated community; and Calliope already began learning about her powers from a young age (It’s mentioned in tLT that the reason monsters begin hunting demigods is when they start learning of their powers; Percy did his whole fountain thing. And it’s a good reason as to why Frank got 16 years of smooth sailing) but she learned her powers from a younger age; combination of her mother and Janus things (I’ll explain her power distribution and a thematic role in her powers) and Dionysus things- because Dionysus totally finds some way to hang out with his children before they get to Camp, he had a good relationship with Castor and Pollux and he cares about them a lot. But instead of Helen (the mother; probably should’ve said that, but Helen’s her name) bringing her to Camp Half-Blood. I’d like to think on Calliope’s birthday (me and my friend decided birthday trauma because that would be a time Dionysus- or none of the gods could watch their kids) Lupa comes over and is like, ‘Helen, pookie, hand over your kid. It’ll be safer in the legion’ and Helen is there like T-T, ‘Okay’. Obviously; it’s far more like, intricate than that- but it pretty much is an okay enough bad summary. But yeah- Helen scribbles down a letter of recommendation, grabs one her mother (who was totally the Augur previously, making her Michael Varus’s lover/wifey/idk, and the Augur that told him, ‘Michael don’t do that it’s not time’ and it doubles as ‘Michael we have a small child and you have one more year until retirement don’t get yourself killed now’) and tucks them with her small child; that pearl necklace in the drawjng is also from this time period of Calliope’s life. But uhhh whatever; something, something, Lupa training. I usually only see her when thinking about her in HoO as a Modern AU (If it was taking place during 2009, her birthday would be probably moved back; and she would be a 2009 scene girlie. But she only is thought of in a world with MY head canons, MY re-imagining, and MY storyline. So she is hard to try and re-work to fit in the OG. Maybe I’ll try once and post it here and giggle with everyone on how much I’d probably butcher her.) but yeah; as a modern AU that has my re-imagining and head canons, back on track- so, she does her training, gets to the legion, fun letters of recommendation and I think she shows some special ability to get in the first cohort (again; in line with my head canons for the re-imagining of the legion. I’m plugging it a lot but it’s something I’m putting a lot of effort into) but she gets in, and naturally becomes friends with Jason’s friend group but still is kind of an outsider to that. Next important thing is Octavian joining the legion- they had seen each other around New Rome and talked with each other a couple times, they were friends; and just became better friends once he joined the legion (I put Calliope at around 17 for the majority of HoO) once he gets his Centurion position (I have to figure out how I wanna think abt the Augur stuff) but he promotes Calliope to Optio (or Optio centuriae specifically, it means she’s pretty much the second in command for Centurions- I’ll probably talk more about them in my Roles post for CJ Re-imagined). And then she doesn’t really matter until Jason’s praetorship, during the barely mentioned mutiny; of course. Because she’s meant to be a good friend to Jason, but I have her fatal flaw as being like two-faced, for a Janus related one. So I feel like she went behind her friends backs to discreetly fuel the mutiny, but just teetering the line enough that she wouldn’t be traced back to it? If that makes sense; I want it to be a reveal. Uh, yeah- she’s mostly thought of in relation to my DR. And I’ve ran out of words, byeeeee!! I’ll talk more in a

part 2!

Main character Camp Jupiter Fatal Flaws Hc/General thoughts!

!!kind of Spoilers for ToA!!

Idk how long this will take to write; but this is my wild speculation on a lot of the Camp Jupiter characters (from HoO, haven’t read ToA yet) fatal flaws! This is all my opinion (that has been shaped by my personal interpretation and totally is all just my speculation and my interpretation not based on how uncle Rick has shown us how fatal flaws -especially in the earlier series- chooses to pick fatal flaws) I’ll do a part 2 for other Camp Jupiter character when I’m not tired because right now I’m struggling through writing Hazel’s part and I’m tired because I go to sleep at like 8:30 pm like a grandma on most days,

Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano,

I’ll be honest, I don’t have very strong opinions on Reyna; I read her in BoO and she’s interesting (though much of what I remember from her chapters were just the insane moment when Hylla chucked a car at Orion)

She just doesn’t stand out to me. In the nicest way possible, I don’t care much about her; I like the whole Venus thing, and that she ends up joining the huntresses (at the beginning when I heard it I didn’t like it too much, possibly a mixture of my own dislike for this interpretation of Artemis; while I was reading tTC I don’t know why but Artemis just annoyed me a bit, along with Zoë, though I don’t fully know why I didn’t like the huntresses to begin with, I just found them a little annoying- ig? Maybe they brought up childhood embarrassment from kindergarten long story but now I’ve grown to… tolerate their Riordan interpretation; maybe this will change by the time I read ToA. Maybe it’s just a mixture of characters I find mildly annoying- I honestly don’t like canon Thalia that much either, she’s okay, but just isn’t my taste. If anyone wants to know characters I like more that give me similar vibes are Hylla, Clarisse, Annabeth, etc.)

Okay this is supposed to be about Reyna-

I just don’t think about her very much.

But her fatal flaw-

Hubris? Guilt? Could be either of those, and my argument for either will of course be very opinion-based and not very well explained or evidence backed up; as that’s not what this page does and when I would ever put evidence and an actual argument in here is if it was about why Michael Varus totally idolized ancient Heroes (this is my hc, and is meant as a comedic example. I have no idea why that needed to be clarified, but I already typed it-)

But Hubris; whenever I think of Reyna’s choices specifically, I think of the lack of opinions she gets on doing it, or when she gets those opinions- the general disregard for those opinions if they give genuine concern and it’s not fitting in with what’s she’s decided to do,

Now this may just be because she’s in a leadership role and we are meant to see her as determined and choosing what she believes is best for the legion (Which in HoO is what I really can see objectively)

I also just see her as a little stubborn; may just be my read on it.

Guilt; the second option I think of when thinking of her fatal flaw; because we don’t exactly know if heroes in PJO are just given the fatal flaw along with their destiny at birth and then left to deal with it, or if they’re developed- from what we know I’ll operate with the assumption that Demigods develop their fatal flaws some time during childhood-

So I think when we hear about Reyna having this overwhelming guilt of committing Patricide on her father; I could see a lot of her worst flaw being that guilt; making her unsure and trepidatious (is that the right word? Hopefully) about making choices, second-guessing all of her decisions to think if she’s doing the right thing, stuff like that. Much more head-cannoney, but I like it; maybe it’s just angsty and after reading the chariot race in the Iliad after Patroclus’s death I need some actual recovery from the whiplash I experienced.

Overall; Reyna, don’t love her, don’t hate her. Love her dogs though, would let Aurum and Argentum eat me <3

Jason Grace

I’m talking about my boy!! Or, my other boy :]

He might be my 3rd favorite pjo character, though I’m not sure if that’s just because I need to somewhat redeem myself by not having 3 villains in a row be my favorites (if anyone would know, Caligula, Commodus, Lityerses, Clarisse, or Beckendorf could also easily steal 3rd place. But Luke and Octavian still sit ever revolving around 1st and 2nd place)

His chapters may be the hardest things to read through; only possibly beaten by the Iliad’s battle scene number 2748 where we talk about the 3rd dude whose head is bashed in with a rock, and listing of every Achaean. I still think he’s fun

Easily one of my favorites out of the seven (Frank, Hazel, Percy, and Annabeth all make it to my ‘I have a very positive opinion of them’. Love Leo and Piper; but Piper’s chapters were more of a slog to get through and I feel very neutral to negative about her, and Leo is fun but I don’t care about him too much- sorry guys, but Frank is cooler B])

Albino Afro-Latino Jason is my headcanon and I stand on my hill to die on it

He has sharp wolf teeth because I said so too-

Chews on things

Burnt out special kid for my heart-

I feel like his fatal flaw (which I mind everyone cannonically is ‘temptation to deliberate’ or as the wiki describes it because I don’t feel my interpretation as ‘indecisive and not wanting to make a choice that stands with one particular group,)

Main Character Camp Jupiter Fatal Flaws Hc/General Thoughts!

But my headcanon is his fatal flaw being Loyalty^^

This man drops everything for Piper; gives up his life in Camp Jupiter (which to be fair; he didn’t remember very well)

Takes the way worse choice of having to stay in the creepy Zeus cabin to be with her

And from what I heard he continues this record in ToA!

Even more traits of extreme to detrimental loyalty than Percy tbh-

So I think his thing is loyalty. The first few chapters of BoO is Jason coming to another near-death experience by the hands of a Roman and the ravaged soul of his mother while he outright rejects his Roman life for the Greeks- I think, BoO feels a little like a feverdream in my head so I don’t remember all of the specifics or my thoughts about it at the time I read it.

But I love this silly little skrunkle wolf kid. He also had piercings, and in my heart he didn’t die- what are you talking about?

Overall; love him, don’t know how much I like him in proportion to every other character I also like (Disco Darrin forever guys😎)

Frank Zhang

You guys see that I’m trying to get the Mc’s out of the way to then get to the things I like (talking about random side characters)

But Frank; he is so cute, I love him, he gets a nice hug.

Uhhhh, I don’t have much things about him

He tried playing hockey. That’s my goopy half-formed idea, I’ll probably have more of a story to that once I like actually can get one finger out of the side character train of thought to actually give Main characters some attention

I didn’t think of his fatal flaw going into this so this is my first draft of what I think Frank’s Fatal Flaw is,

The canon is low self-esteem, which may I say, after MoA is just like- dropped in HoO; I don’t remember many times where he was unsure of himself and that directly caused a detriment to the group (might be wrong because I finished SoN in a day and did that on like June 2nd this year so I’m rusty guys-)

But I feel bold, so I’m gonna say- not wrath, but some form of anger-related Fatal flaw,

Now; in SoN, self-esteem probably fits. But through MoA and beyond I remember notable moments in my brain of Frank and a very quick potent release of anger, or things related to anger and that emotional profile (is that right? Or uh, what I mean is like Anger being the umbrella term for all of the subcategories that we use to describe types of anger)

So I think that being Frank’s fatal flaw; having to go in a back and forth between not letting his anger bubble up and thinking that’s bad and watching as it comes up in fiery bursts feels fitting. Though I’m a little tired so it’s not my finest explanation

Hazel Levesque

I don’t have much ideas or opinions on the fandoms horse girl

I like her though, she’s rad

But uh

No thoughts on her

Hazel’s fatal flaw cannonically is her past. Which I kind of get; but Fatal flaws like originally were at least meant to be like actual flaws in the Og myths if I remember (Odysseus had Hubris; also his lying thing which was probably an offshoot of Hubris, but I just find that so funny for no reason-)

Hazel; honestly I don’t feel like I know her well enough to say for sure a fatal flaw for her based on her actions.

I would say impulsivity or recklessness but something in my brain is saying that might not be fully correct and I’m sure there’s plenty of options where she is not shown as reckless or impulsive

It is something that is to do with both her Gaea uprising #1 block, and saving her mother from the fields of punishment.

I’ll get back to you guys on a separate post

I’m tired so goodnight everyone^^ I’ll get back to my musings tomorrow, or another date

Goodnight!!

I’m sobbing

We’ve finally finished the lightning thief in my English class, now we’re watching the first movie to compare with it; wherein I also get to see the Peter Johnson movie for the first time, we were given like papers to compare with the book and movie while we watched the movie; I was seated over in the back in the class, and I was working very hard to write down my thoughts… which turned into a very biased hypercritical (I think?) note taking session on things I didn’t like about the movies. I apologize for not putting a transcript down for the pictures below, but it was a long period of just yelling into my paper and silently apologizing to my braincells that had to be subjected to the movie, I mention in the photos what I consider bad writing (and several times I think I scribble out show don’t tell) and to note that I’m not a like writing genius that knows movies, but they kind of just… word vomit things at the viewer in like a 5 minute speed round that is like fact after fact and I was sitting there still thinking about the Mrs. Dodds scene, and they make the gods very involved? If that’s the right sentiment, if you get what I mean,
