Beyond this, consider how these professions might vary depending on who the customers are - nobles, or lower class. Are they good at their job or just scraping by? Do they work with lots of other people or on their own? City or village?
For younger characters:
Apprentice to any of the above

I changed the font and spacing to reread my first draft and it’s a totally legit trick but also it’s so funny how much of writing is just playing mind games with yourself. Stuck on the blank page? Write a grocery list! Words won’t come? Switch to writing on a yellow legal pad! Having trouble working consistently? Create a daily writing ritual! Is everything just Bad? Write in Comic Sans! Set a timer! Set a weird deadline! Write 1000 words EXACTLY, no more and no less! Mess with the font colors! Get up early! Stay up late! Dress up to do your writing! Or write naked!
the writer’s brain is just a puzzle toy that we have to turn over and over in every direction to get the Creativity to fall out
You’ve known plenty of the Mages, Warlocks, and Druids who live within your town. But recently until the practice became formally legal, you had never met a Necromancer. To the dismay of your neighborhood one has recently moved into a house near your own. They mostly keep to themselves and don’t seem to bother anybody, but that doesn’t stop the swirl of rumors spreading from your neighbors that have now also piqued your interest.
“We can’t make this character (aro)ace. If we strip them of their sexual attraction and love interest, what else would be left that motivates them?”
Oh geez, you are right. What other motivation could this person possibly have other than eventually getting laid.
You fool. You absolute buffoon.

Fear of losing loved ones
Family/friends
Thirst for knowledge/curiosity
Call from a higher power

The heroes nearly won with the “Friendship is power” trope, but lost because the villains did that trope but better.
