i was all like "im feeling a little tired from modelling Wells, so i'll take a short little break and take a peek at whats going on on the wotw tag" and then i had the most heart attack to ever heart attack the oment i saw the.... let me check. THE TRIPODETTE yeah that little character. No idea why i had that reaction, though it feels a little bit familiar. Though i often get that feeling, so it could just be nothing. Very nice design nonetheless !
also-also, when i was making this the armless version reminded my of my own tripod design that i swear i'll get to drawing one day.
I think its because my tripod design was made in the likeness of the human torso, to mimic that "leisurely parody of the human stride" that H. G. described their movement as in The Thunder-Child chapter.

Tripodette concept art #1 My attempt of moe anthropomorphizing the fighting machines in H.G. Well's The War of the Worlds; based on Henrique Alvim Corrêa’s illustrations. I think Tripodette sounds like a good name for this character.
A Spotter in London (1940)
An Observer Corps Spotter on a rooftop in London (1940). The Royal Observer Corps (ROC) was a civil defense organization in the UK that ran from 1925 to 1996. Mostly ran by civilian volunteers, their task was to spot, track, and record aircraft over the country. The ROC's origins dates back since the Great War when the country experienced bombing raids from German zeppelins. They played an important role in WW2, notably the Battle of Britain, and was titled "Royal" by King George VI in 1941 for their service.

Colonel Elmer Ellsworth
During the beginning of the American Civil War, Elmer Ephraim Ellsworth (1837-1861) raised and commanded the 11th New York Infantry Regiment; many in the regiment were firemen who volunteered from New York City's firefighting companies. On May 24, 1861, while taking down a Confederate flag from an inn named the Marshall House in Alexandra, Virginia, he was shot and killed by the inn's proprietor James William Jackson. Private Francis Edwin Brownell, of Ellsworth's regiment, shot and bayonetted Jackson, killing him. Ellsworth is the first officer in the Union army to die in the Civil War.
Brigadier General Joshua Chamberlain
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (1828-1914) is best known for leading the 20th Maine Infantry Regiment in defending Little Round Top on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg. After repulsing multiple Confederate assaults, suffering heavy casualties and running low on ammunition, he ordered a bayonet charge that disorganized the attacking Confederates and secured the Union's left flank. For his actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
