Jeongguk sighed, throwing his head back for a second as he internally fought against himself and his hopeless need to give you what you wanted. “I really need to leave now, babe” he tried to make you understand; and when he saw your mouth open to say something more, he beat you to it: “And, if I kiss you, then you’ll do that thing where you pull me closer when I try to end it and I’ll fall for it like I always do” his words were fast spoken, for he was already trying to rush towards the front door.

You huffed, following hot on his heels and grabbing the sleeve of his oversized hoodie once more, pushing it up so that you could hold his hand. “One kiss” you stuck your lower lip out, “I promise I won’t try anything else, Guk-ah”.

The sweet tone you had just used in your voice, along with the puppy eyes you were staring up at him with, had Jeongguk giving in in a heartbeat – letting out a small sigh right before his cloudlike lips collided against yours. And you were true to your word, much to his surprise. Much to his newfound disappointment. So, as soon as you pulled apart and smiled at him, you noticed his pouty lips and furrowed eyebrows. “Why’d you pull away?” he whined, deciding to let you know what was going on after seeing your dumbfounded expression.

That only caused your confusion to increase. “You told me not to kiss you like I always do?”

“Yeah, but” his pout grew more prominent, pulling you closer by your waist so that your body was stuck to his, “I thought you knew it was one of those times when I say I don’t want you to do it but I’m lowkey dying for you to kiss me like that so then you do anyway and I–” his delusional explanation was shut up by your slightly curved up in amusement mouth crashing against his, this time wrapping your arms tightly around his neck so you could intensify the kiss – just like your silly, whiny boyfriend was so badly craving for.

The soft crackle of the fire is the only sound breaking the deep silence. It smoothly cuts through the murky atmosphere of the night, and the sight of its origins is just as mesmerizing: waves of blazing fire helplessly reach out towards the sky, weak and strong, the flames rising aimlessly as they sway amongst the smoke.

Sitting there, alone and surrounded by trees and the calming waves of the bonfire, is numbing enough to make time still. The temperatures are low enough for a crisp breeze to tickle your cheeks, seeping through the layers of your clothes as your hands seek for warmth against each other. You can almost pretend you’re completely on your own, that voices are not coming closer and that the sound of hearty laughter isn’t overpowering the eerie quietness of nature.

You never believed in the whole “opposites attract” thing until you met Jin. He was the sun to your moon, the extrovert to your introvert.

With you being so shy and hating it whenever people’s attention was put on you, the two of you decided to keep your relationship away from the eyes of the world – Well, at least you decided it and then ended up somehow convincing your boyfriend. It was great to you, getting to be with the man you loved without everyone having a say on it.

It was nights like this, though, when you wished you could just shout out loud for everyone to hear that you were his girlfriend. You were currently backstage waiting for Jin at an awards show when you saw another idol from a girls group go up to him, not even bothering in hiding her flirtatious ways with your boyfriend.

Your back pressed against the corridor’s wall as you looked at their interaction. You weren’t jealous, since Jin was clearly not flirting back, instead being his friendly self as always – you were just upset people didn’t know he was taken; maybe then things like this would stop happening. And you couldn’t help but be mad at yourself, for it had been your decision to keep your relationship a secret.

After a few minutes he waved goodbye to her and made his way over to you, the smile formed on his lips as soon as he saw you causing yours to appear.

“We still have half an hour before our presentation” he informed you, receiving a small nod as his answer. He frowned, sensing something was wrong although there was a smile plastered in your face. “Are you alright?”

“Yeah, why wouldn’t I?” you tried to brush it off, interlocking your fingers with his. However, the glance you gave the girl when she went past the two of you left you right on the spotlight.

“It doesn’t have to do with the fact that someone else was flirting with me?” he smirked, making you roll your eyes before looking down, trying to hide from him the crimson colour painting your cheeks.

“I’m not jealous” you stated; a cocky smile instantly curving up his lips. “I just, sometimes wish people would know you’re with me” you shrugged, still not bringing yourself to lock your eyes with his.

At that he saw his chance and didn’t even think twice before taking it. After almost a year of the two of you being together, he wanted nothing but for the whole world to know, dying to show you off to everyone.

“Well, if you’d just let me tell people we’re dating, these kinds of things wouldn’t happen, don’t you think?” he raised his voice; people who were near you immediately turning their heads in your direction.

You hushed him within a second. “Jin, lower your voice”.

“People should know we love each other, Y/N. It’s stupid we’re even hiding it” he spoke again.

People, idols, started to whisper on your back. You even saw a few girls taking their phones out, probably recording the whole thing.

“Jin, will you plea–”

“But I love you!” he loudly whined. Your hands went to cover his mouth.

A wholehearted laugh left his throat, grabbing your hands with his and getting them off his mouth before giving them a gentle squeeze. He thought your face being as red as a tomato because of the embarrassment he had caused you was the cutest thing ever. Only then the two of you looked around, making everyone who was staring at you to either look away or keep moving.

“If I didn’t love you this much, I would’ve dumped your loud ass right here” you mumbled, deep down loving how bad he wanted everyone to know you were together – your heart fluttering at the mere thought.

“But you do love me” he playfully pinched your sides; happiness irradiating from all over his body, “so just be happy that from now on everyone will know my heart belongs to you”.

The doors opened for you, and the bustling Busan train station was revealed.

Noises echoed in every direction, you watched as people quickly rushed towards their trains, and you suddenly figured that you should do the same. You shook away your wonder as you started to go through bag check, but your eyes still managed to drift around the building that you remembered all too well.

It was quieter back then, or maybe it wasn’t. You might’ve just been so numbed by all of the pain you were feeling that you couldn’t sense anything else. Your eyes glided across the path that had been etched into your mind for the past year and a half.
