Is Daddy Done Being Mad Now?
“Is daddy done being mad now?”
It’s with 6 words, 6 simple words that shouldn’t ever be whispered in a certain context by a child, that finally breaks Maddie. She starts sobbing on the floor of her closet, her face a mess of bruises and blood, and it’s those words that finally snap her out of the comatose state she feels like she’s been living in for years.
“It’s okay mommy, don’t cry. I’ll make it better.” She knows she should be putting on a brave face right now, if only for her son, but those next few words only make her cry harder because they shouldn’t be leaving his mouth. Her four year old is gently rubbing her back with his small hand, or at least trying to because he is rubbing her shoulder more than anything, and she knows what he is trying to do. It’s the same thing she does for him when he’s sick and they are cuddled up in bed together and she quietly hums him a song and rubs his back at his request because he says it helps him get better quicker, even though it’s really the medicine he took an hour before that does the real magic.
He changes tactics and instead wraps his tiny arms around her neck and she gladly draws him in and holds her little boy as tight as she can without hurting him.
Tonight, she messed up badly.

Um, soooooooo...I was just heavily played. Like, I paused that Lucy and Tim scene 5 times freaking out knowing I was being played, and the scene still got me.
And then after letting those WIPs marinate for another couple months will open those same stories back up, reread them, think they are amazing and be so annoyed there isn’t more but is too lazy to finish and then closes out of the tab once again, only to return when a random burst of inspiration hits you at 3 am.
the sheer offensiveness of rereading something you wrote, discovering that, hey, it’s actually pretty good, and then reaching the end, wherein you realize that if you want more you actually have to write it
