I Love No Mans Skys Take On Eldritch Corruption. Most Games Represent Being Infected By Otherworldy Forces

I love No Man’s Sky’s take on eldritch corruption. Most games represent being infected by otherworldy forces with a filthy aesthetic, whereas NMS is more like, “you know, the utterly alien might actually be kind of pretty.”

Until you get to the abandoned outposts and freighters, that is, but some of that corruption was induced by sentient species. Maybe that’s what makes the difference in this universe, whether the seepage happens naturally or not.

Some pretty bioluminescent flora on two superheated worlds.

About the time I think I’ve seen everything there is to see in this game, No Man’s Sky manages to surprise me.

I’ll have to use this in my upcoming OC posts!

20 assorted OC asks I'm curious about

Reblog this so I can come throw you people some questions!! 🥰

1. Why did you pick their name?

2. Why did your character get that name in-universe?

3. How do they talk in a formal situation?

4. How do they talk with close people?

5. If they got a tattoo, what kind? If they have tattoos, what would their next one be?

6. Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, downhill tobogganing/sledding, or ice skating?

7. Their 2020s AU quarantine craft of choice?

8. Which era of historical fashion do you think would fit them?

9. What's their most annoying trait?

10. What makes them nice to be around?

11. What do they look for first in another person?

12. What do other people often notice first in them?

13. Their cliche YA novel scent combo? (Like 'X smelled like rhododendron and dewdrops and the pages of a 100-year-old library book 😩')

14. Good or bad at math?

15. Likes studying languages, yes or no?

16. Kitchen catastrophe or gourmet home cook?

17. What's their breakfast like?

18. Do they have a favourite accessory / item of clothing? If yes, why that?

19. What cute thing were they into as a tween that they cringe about now? (Let them know I love it!)

20. What kind of people are their type that they find most attractive? (Either platonic, romantic or sexual attraction.)

Story Starter #24

“Why on God’s green Earth did I have to be stuck with you?”

“I was wondering the same thing.”

I pray God will curse the writer, as the writer has cursed the world with this beautiful, stupendous creation, terrible in its simplicity, irresistible in its truth--a world which now trembles before the King in Yellow.

Robert W. Chambers, The King in Yellow

Well, that would certainly be an interesting review to get as a writer...I doubt any of us wish to be literally cursed by our readers, but it would be flattering to know we’ve affected someone that deeply.

Causing insanity in readers, that’s another story.

Started playing Stela recently, and these enemies immediately made me think of SCP-096 (The Shy Guy), except these guys are a lot less socially inhibited. (Still homicidal, though, and possibly anthropophagus.)

Maybe he’s a related species?
