I was wrong. Salazar Slytherin was born before 976. The witch trials and hunting of witches officially spanned from late 1300s to mid 1700s. However people had been killed and assaulted for being witches and wizards before then and after then too.

Salazar likely lived through plenty of persecution. It's possible that he feared muggles because of their intentions towards magical people.

Muggles wanted to kill wizards and witches. Women were targeted the most due to misogyny and children were incapable of protecting themselves.

This conflict could've even been his motivation to help found Hogwarts; to help children learn to protect themselves.

Then the whole thing with him not wanting muggleborn children attending Hogwarts, it's likely that Salazar thought it would be risky to allow muggle families to know where Hogwarts, a castle filled with wizarding children, was located when tensions were high and it could end with tons of dead children.

There is also no proof as to what the Basilisk was intended for. It could've been his last defense for the castle or something he kept to use it's venom for potions. Basilisks could've also been endangered and he wanted to protect it. Or just someone to chat with.

We only know a legend that had over a thousand years to warp into what it was in 1992 and a starving Basilisk that Voldemort (a muggle hating murderer) used to kill a single person.

Also, doesn't anyone else wish Harry had befriended the Basilisk and promised it snacks in return for betraying Voldemort? Then it could've burst out of the ground during the Battle of Hogwarts and killed some Death Eaters.

Okay, so you know the whole people burning witches thing in the Harry Potter series?

Everyone seems to get all stuck up on the timeline. People who do some research realized it doesn't match up. Salazar was born in the very early 1800s, and the witch trials in england ended in the early 1700s.

This means that his parents or more likely, his grandparents were part of the people being hunted.

Another thing people argue is that the witch's didn't actually burn. They just screwed around with the muggles. However, after thinking for a while, I realized. The children. Magical children wouldn't have the skills or the discretion to hide their magic or protect themselves. It's likely that most of the wizarding community that actually died at the hands of muggles were children.

It's possible that his grandparents had siblings and friends as children who were burnt to death. It wouldn't be that far off to think Salazar Slytherin grew up hearing horror stories of young children being hunted and killed.

This would explain him being scared of and hating muggles and the children who grew up with muggles.

The basilisk could've just been for protection against intruders.

Or the entire legend could be speculation based on modern biases because history is wonky and legend are unreliable.

Please don't kill me. This is just a theory stemming from being tired of all Slytherins being evil.

This is the "Cromdo did nothing wrong" post.

HEAR. ME. OUT.

I'll start with what sparked this whole discussion; Cromdo being fully justified in "robbing" Liz and Egg's house. You may be thinking "what the hell that's obviously a terrible thing to do" NO. And here's why.

Cromdo states in his interview that he thought of sailing away when shit hit the fan, only to discover that the boat was gone (and some of Liz's belongings are nearby), which lead him to assume that Liz and Egg had abandoned everyone. Based on the evidence he had, this is a completely reasonable conclusion! Considering (in Cromdo's view) that Liz and Egg are no longer on the island, him salvaging their belongings is completely reasonable. Was trying to sell them cool? Not really. But taking them in general was completely justifiable.

Where do we go from here? Well, that leads me to another story that requires some context. For those who aren't in the Snakpack discord, I recently went on a three hour deep dive discussing when and why everyone left Snaxburg post-Liz's disappearance, and something came up regarding Cromdo that I couldn't come to a conclusion for- why Beffica planted evidence in his hut.

In Cromdo's interview, he claims that Beffica planted her diary in his hut to frame him.

(I believe he's telling the truth here, because it's such a specific detail that I don't know if he'd make it up. Given it's something everyone would have known about, he'd be incredibly easily disproven, so I'm taking his word for it.)

Now, what motivation would Beffica have for falsifying evidence? Given her interview where she states she posted pics of all his little crimes, we can presume she had photographic evidence of Cromdo "robbing" Liz and Egg. So why would she need to fake a diary theft if she already had all the evidence she'd need against him?

This is the part where I go a little insane LET ME COOK.

I think that once Cromdo found the boat gone, he told everyone that Liz and Egg abandoned them. And yknow what? Some (maybe most?) of Snaxburg believed him. So when he started salvaging their belongings, nobody was too concerned - save for Beffica, of course. Beffica didn't believe Cromdo because she already had a bit of a vendetta against him, so I think she planted false evidence in Cromdo's hut to "prove" that Cromdo was lying and was just using the disappearance as an excuse to rob them. Because... why would she be so concerned about Cromdo "getting back" at her if everyone in Snaxburg was on her side?

I think she was worried he'd call her out for falsifying evidence against him.

CROMDO. WAS. FRAMED.

Now I'm not claiming Cromdo isn't a thief. He (presumably) stole one of Snorpy's lunch pads and enlists the journalist to steal Triffany's map. However, compared to some of the shit these grumps do (looks at Wambus, Beffica, Gramble, Wiggle and Snorpy) some petty theft is NOTHING. Snorpy had multiple lunch pads. Triffany was biased against Cromdo possibly because of the slander Beffica pulled about him, and yeah stealing it from her house was bad, but again. He isn't punching the shit out of someone or placing trackers on people without their knowledge.

In conclusion:

The title of this post is technically a lie. Yeah, Cromdo did some stuff wrong, HOWEVER, his petty theft is really all you can count against him. Cromdo was quite possibly framed and blackmailed and had the entire town turn against him when he was (kind of?) trying to help. Cromdo did some bad things, but given this island? Practically nothing. I will stand by this.

includes: Bakugo, Aizawa, Class 1-A, All Might warnings: big boy sad times for everyone length: roughly 512 words- listen it’s currently 4am, don’t come from my throat other: Not the basic title, uhm, chile anyways so- That was the night when he finally understood why people fear silence. Bakugo was a shaking, trembling mess of tears and sweat as he sat curled up in the corner of his dorm room. He couldn’t hear the heavy sobs that racked his body as his fingers gripped his hair tightly, threatening to pull it out.  Mr. Aizawa sat in the common room on the first floor, accompanied by All Might and the other students. The air felt heavy and tense like the slightest movement would cause the entire building to collapse. “Was he hit with a quirk, Sensei?” The question came from Kirishima, tone worried and innocent. Aizawa almost didn’t have the heart to tell them any part of the truth. Midoriya was silent, quieter than the rest of the students as he clung to his journal like a lifeline. He knew. He knew this would eventually happen.  As All Might failed to stop himself from tearing up, Aizawa explained. “Bakugo wasn’t hit by a quirk from someone else. We think he’s gone deaf,” The teacher cut himself off to calm himself down before his eyes watered as well. “We think Bakugo’s explosions were damaging his eardrums every time he used them. Unlike Present Mic, Bakugo’s body doesn’t protect him from his quirk.” Aizawa took a shaky breath, speaking more to himself now as the class let that sink in, “No wonder he was always yelling.” Denki blinked, mouth going dry before he opened it to speak, and yet he never got the chance. A heart twisting scream tore down the stairs and through the hallways, stabbing through each soul the noise reached. Kirishima sobbed, screwing his eyes shut as the sound of pure agony continued to twist into the air, mixed with crying hiccups before it stopped. Sero averted his eyes from everyone while Mina placed her hand on Kiri’s back, her body quivering like a leaf in the wind. Midoriya’s hands nearly tore his notebook in half before Todoroki stopped him by setting a gentle hand on his. Their teacher flinched, and All Might harshly casting his gaze to the floor. “I’ll check on him,” The retired pro hero said softly, only looking at Aizawa when the man had placed a hand on his shoulder.  “Don’t,” He breathed, knowing his student better than anyone. “He’ll think he failed you. Let me go, stay here and comfort the students,” Aizawa whispered to All Might. The former hero could tell that his friend was struggling to hold himself together as well. Bakugo knew he was screaming, he could feel the vibrations in his throat. So why couldn’t he hear anything?! He started panicking in the darkness of his dorm room. They’d kick him from the hero course for sure. Who needs a deaf hero?  The sudden, gentle hand on his knees startled the poor boy so bad that he almost blew up his teacher on reflex. Aizawa was sitting on the floor with him, an easy look on his face. Bakugo wasn’t the best at reading lips, but he understood what Aizawa mouthed to him. It will be okay. Just breathe.
