Nesta is very observant, so if Gwyn was attracted to Azriel, she would’ve noticed it immediately. The “You’re the new ribbon, Az” was only about Gwyn’s competitive nature, not about some sort of attraction.

There's something about shows like Love next door, doctor slump, welcome to samdalri that simply tug at my heartstrings.
These are shows that, at their very core, explore the trope of the high achieving gifted kid to burnout pipeline. The dreamers and the hustlers. The ones who work hard but never play, leading to a downward spiral that they didn't realize they were on. Sacrificing youth, giving up on life, and staying away from loved ones only to never be able to enjoy the fruits of their labour, to be beaten down into exhaustion and left with a strange uncertainty about major life decisions.
And when you finally, finally force yourself to sit down, the guilt and the emptiness sets in because for years now, you've been running on fumes. And because you've crashed to a halt, the world around you seems to be spinning faster than ever, like everyone's creating miracles and you've depleted your magic. But that's never an excuse to continue running on broken legs. I said this in a another, very similar post before -

Animalia: Gryffindor. Animals charge in headfirst and eat whatever looks good. Animals eat. Animals move. It’s generally pretty obvious when an animal is trying to eat something. Subtlety is lost on most animals- they brim with vigor.
Fungi: Slytherin. Fungi eat other organisms, but they are much more subtle about it. They may even look like a plant, until you realize they are literally digesting whatever they have landed on. Fungi can grow in the dark and the damp, and don’t mind having a Common Room under the lake.
Plantae: Ravenclaw. Plants, for the most part, sit in one place and stare at the sun. They appreciate the light, and value the ways it makes them grow.
Protista: Hufflepuff. “Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest,” sang the sorting hat, and so it is with protists- pretty much any eukaryotic organism that doesn’t strictly fit the definition of animal, fungus, or plant. But don’t let that fool you that they are the “wastebasket taxon,” or the “leftover house”. Protists are diverse, and know that diversity is valuable. Protists are stronger together than apart, protists adapt to many situations, and protists are generally underappreciated.

I think we, as a fandom, need to revisit Azriel's reaction, and Rhys's reaction to Azriel's reaction, when Rhys brings up the Blood Duel and Lucien in the bonus chapter.
Azriel's literally like "he can call a duel if he wants his puny ass isn't gonna be a problem" and Rhys is like "you fighting his puny ass is the least of my concerns because there is literally only one outcome, my problem the entire political climate of the damn country, something that your horny ass has failed to consider"
Like, I know it was serious moment but something about this interaction is so funny to me.

it actually makes me so sad that people consume media where every character is kind of an asshole and they just entirely overly sanitize every character and every problem thats caused by the being kind of an asshole thing. i loooove conflict i love people who suck. i love people who are good people but also still kind of suck in some ways because they are a person. most importantly you all do not understand the comedic potential of characters being kind of shitty to eachother.

I'm sorry that he is conceptually more interesting than all of tgt characters combined. I'm sorry that he is the soul of the grishaverse, that he's the one who makes the story move forward while your faves have to be dragged around by the plot. I'm sorry that none of your faves' sob stories could ever compare to the gut-wrenching tragedy that is living under oppression for centuries, having to watch everyone he cares about die, leaving him without anyone for company besides his toxic mother. I'm sorry that, despite hating him, the author herself is unable to let him stay dead because she knows he is her cash cow. I'm sorry that, as a villain, he was still a better love interest for the mc than the actual hero guy. I'm sorry that, as a villain, he was still the one who gave the grisha a fighting chance against their oppressors while your heroic faves were fighting to maintain the status quo. I'm sorry that he manages to look so fabulous while committing atrocities 🥰
