Look, everybody! It’s a happy Laufey with little Loki in his arms!

Seriously, this is all I ever wanted. And it only took Marvel 10  years.

The rest of the what if? episode was fun but nothing could top this moment. My heart may have grown three sizes. <3

thinking about how loki was wanted :)

i mean, he's recognized as a prince and all

Okay, first of, I really doubt that the Odin of the original timeline would allow Loki to play around with the Casket of Ancient Winters, so it's possible that what kid!Loki is holding is just a toy.

But about him not turning blue; maybe this Loki is from one of the timelines where he's always known that he's Jötunn. Knowing from early childhood should have given him more control over his ice powers and shape-shifting.

Thor, after all, looks totally fine with being frozen; trusting Loki not to hurt him.

I see this with both brothers being comfortable, even playful, with Loki's abilities.

So This Happened In The Main Timeline? But Loki Didn't Turn Blue? This Is The Second Time We've Been

so this happened in the main timeline? but loki didn't turn blue? this is the second time we've been shown loki not turning blue while holding the casket 👀🤔

I’m not crying. Not at all.

That water on my face is just from Mobius passing me by on his jet-ski.

That’s what I liked about the finale.

The Loki of the movies would have lashed out, destroyed things, taken revenge.

But because of all the mess he’s gone through due to the TVA, he has grown emotionally and as a person.

So, now he is able to get over his pain and attempt to fix the universe. He may not be a hero but he is definitely not a villain anymore.

The Loki of Season 2 is going to be badass!

Can we talk about how far Loki's come!!!

My man went through the pain of heartbreak

Can We Talk About How Far Loki's Come!!!

AND THEN GOT UP AND WAS DETERMINED TO FIX THIS MESS AND SAVE LIVES.

Oh God, me too.

Sadly, most fans just focus on the shipping and their OTP beyond anything else, even the plot. It's why I don't engage much with the fandom; that would raise my blood pressure too much to be healthy.

The annoying thing is, that you see this with every show/movie/book series. Fans get super invested in romantic relationships, despite the medium they are reading/watching not being focused on romance.

And then they end up hating the thing they used to love only because it didn’t give them the happy couple they had hoped for.

Maybe it’s part of being aromantic that prevents me from understanding that mindset but I can tell you that, from the outside, it can get pretty frustrating.

Why does everything have to be about shipping? That’s what fanfiction is for.

Marvel writers don’t have to fulfill your romantic fantasies.

I wish people could look at the show beyond shipping

The best Loki ship

Wow, four episodes into the Loki show and fans already start a shipping war. Am I surprised? Not really.

I have to say, though, that I find it absolutely tiresome.

Seriously, this show is supposed to give us more time with Loki, after Infinity War so cruelly took him form us. And, sadly, all that fans care about is which other character he ends up dating.

Norns, the toxicity of this whole debate almost makes me want to quit the fandom.

I was glad when the show finally confirmed that Loki is bisexual and gender-fluid. I loved seeing him open up to people and showing a depth of emotions we’d previously seen mostly in deleted scenes. It was so great that he was allowed to show off his magical abilities and his intellect.

How can anyone who calls themselves a Loki fan ignore all these awesome moments simply because they don’t get the romantic relationship of their choice?

Personally, I just don’t care. Even if he ends up with no one and takes old!Loki’s advice of “removing himself from the equation” that’s perfectly fine with me.

Because the best Loki ship is, in my opinion, Loki/happiness and nothing else can beat that.

Hey, it’s me ESO4. Are you gonna update the two sons verse anytime soon? Just wondering! Love your stuff as you know.

Hi ESO4, it’s nice to hear from you.

I’m sorry for the impromptu hiatus. I had a bit of a writer’s block but now I’m slowly getting back to writing. The next chapter is half-way done, so I hope to post it sometime this month.

I’m so proud of her!

Seriously, I enjoy Wandavision immensly, but nothing on that show could make me happier than watching the genius that is Dr. Darcy Lewis.

Every moment with her is pure gold!

Thank you so much to sparvierosart for recomending my fanfic. Your words are really flattering. Seeing this on my dashboard made my day.

Also, the art is awsome! I love Loki’s hair. And the lightning in Thor’s eyes. And the three realms in the background. It is genuinely perfect.

TWO SONS by CloudyDay @jotunn-scholar

Pairings: Gen, Thor/Jane.

Summary:

As princes of Jotunheim and Asgard, Loki and Thor are not on the best of therms. To put it short they hate each other guts. After their last fight the peace between the two realms is at risk, the only wait out is for Odin and Laufey to banish their sons in the hope to salvage some kind of truce. But…will Loki and Thor ever be worthy again? A retelling of the first Thor movie with a different premise.

Why reading:

You cannot understand how much I love this story. The characterisation of the ensemble is stunning, everyone has a very unique voice and the plot is tick with new and exciting things. It’s one of the very few stories that take an hard look at Jotun Loki and his growing relationship with Thor without making them a couple by the end. 10/10 this story is spectacular.

Warnings:

A couple of violent scenes during the flashbacks, you will not be able to stop reading.

Oh come on, Loki wouldn’t be scared at the sight of a dragon. He’d be petting Drogon and telling him what a good strong boy he is.

I bet he could even teach Dany some things about dragons because, unlike her, he’d had the chance to study them. Actually, that would be a fun AU.

Ach, dear plot bunnies, don’t give me ideas; I’m already too far behind in my writing.  : )

Darcy and her taser are my OTP.

I will never get over the irony of the God of Thunder being tasered. It’s a perfect moment of cinema; it just cannot be improved upon.

Also, Darcy deserves all the love. She should have been in every movie, to tell it straight to heroes and villains alike.

Earths Mightiest Hero.

Earth’s Mightiest Hero.

A quick update

For anyone who still follows my Jötunn!Loki series, I have finally posted the 8tht chapter of Seven Mighty Warriors.

In addition, I have now finished the final edit of the first part, Two Sons. Helped along by some really wonderful commenters, I corrected typos and grammar mistakes, from chapter 1 onto 62. So, if you’ve got a lot of time on your hands ( enough to get through 500K words), this might be the perfect opportunity for a reread.

I will try to post regular progress reports for the current chapter, just so that no one has to fear my terribly slow writing pace means I have abandoned the story. Or moved into a hut in the woods, without internet access. Which sounds really tempting right now. ; )

I agree with this so much. This “defining themselves by what they love” also explains these ugly divides in fandom. Some fans see their favourite character as a friend or a family member whom they have to defend against all criticisms, even by other characters.

Which leads to “Team A” vs. “Team B” mentality and to character bashing. Which always makes me sad, because I don’t wanna be on a team; I’d much rather be part of a community. We should all be able to enjoy what we love, together.

Especially in these bleak times we need empathy and compassion and not more walls to keep us apart. I genuinely love the MCU fandom but I wish that Civil War had not made us less civil toward one another.

In the words of the wise king T’Challa “we must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.”

I really love this. It looks like he is in the middle of shifting from one shape to the other. It’s also rather casually done and not as it it bothers him.

We need more fanart of Loki being comfortable in his skin(s).

Another digital painting by me/ @manip-loki I still haven’t made a choice on where to put original art. For now they are all going in here.  Also I haven’t figured out how to use my tablet pen, so all of these have been done with my mouse.

So, is Taika going to write a Fix-it or will he just put “Not Avengers: Endgame Compliant” in the tags? In any case, Thor 4 has got to be better than the Crackfic the Russos posted.

Taika: and then Loki walks in

Russos: Loki can't be in thor4 he's dead

Taika: but he just walked in

Russos: he's dead

Taika:

Taika: so loki walks in and says

Manly men

So, one question that has popped up in the comments to my fic much more often than others is “Why are Loki’s parents both male?” or something to that effect. I could just flippantly answer, “Why not?” but like with everything I wrote, I did have specific, thoroughly thought-out reasons for this.

First, let’s go back in history.

Jötunn biology according to Norse Lore

Somewhat understandable, the authors of the Norse myths didn’t spend much time on detailed descriptions of monsters, because they cared more about the battles against them and about making up dozens of nicknames for their goods, for some reason.

But, we can be pretty sure that in these myths there did exist female Jötnar, as well as male. There is no way of knowing whether the women looked any different than the men, because both were seen as “beautiful”.

Loki, however, is only ever referred to as “he”, even after Bragi reminds everyone that he once gave birth to children, when disguised as a milkmaid. And after the horse incident. He also has kids with women, though; three with Angrboda and two with Sigyn. This seems to be ascribed mostly to Loki being a shapeshifter.

All men, all mom material

Many fanfic authors and the official Marvel comics, too, solved the inability to pin Loki down as either man or woman by making him gender-fluid or intersex.  As a cisgender female, I didn’t feel comfortable with writing about either, though. I honestly don’t think I could do this justice.

I did, however, want to have the chance to write about the inherent sexism of the Norse Myths and, therefore, Asgard’s culture. To that end, I made the Jötnar an all-male species who, nonetheless, all have the ability to carry children. This goes along with some Jötnar taking on traditionally “female” roles in their family or having traditionally “female” jobs, for which people from other realms look down on them.

I also just really enjoyed having Loki answer bigoted insults of him being “unmanly” with “Yeah, all of my people would disagree with you on that.” ; P

So, for anyone interested, this comes very close to how I imagine Jötunn Loki in my story.

Though, of course, “my” Loki does have much more fabulous hair. : D

Horny Loki

My first ever published fanfic stars a Loki who was raised Jötunn (or Jotunn for those without umlauts on the keyboard). Consequently, I did have to do a lot of worldbuilding for both Jötunheimr and its people. There were some important choices to be made, about culture and biology (which I might elaborate on later) but mostly about their appearance. Fandom seems to agree on some key factors: Blue skin, red eyes, very tall.

But then there are the horns.

For many artists and writers, putting pretty horns on Loki’s head is probably just a stylistic choice. Usually, my choices are reached by carefully weighing movie canon against Norse Lore canon, because I’m a massive nerd.

So, what did the Vikings have to say on this matter?

Jötnar according to Norse Lore

The name comes from the Old Norse word ‘etall ' = consuming, greedy. They were also referred to as ‘risi’ = enormous.

That is the only description we get. Oh, and most of them are said to have been “beautiful”, which is, as always, a matter of personal opinion. And what people of that time thought of as beautiful could be very different from our modern definition.

Horns, though, do not appear on even the Jötnar described as “grotesque”.

Choices, choices

Now, how the Jötnar appear in the movies I don’t have to explain here; we’ve all seen Loki change as he touched the Casket. The comic never show “horned” Frost Giants, though they seem to have come up with the blue skin.

All of this should tell us that horns on Jötnar are just wrong. But, I don’t think fans can ever really be wrong about the art they are creating, that’s what AUs and headcanons are for.

The main reason that I didn’t want to depict “my” Loki with horns was Asgardian prejudice. The Aesir think of the Jötnar as “savage beasts”, which is totally racist and irrational. Therefore, I made them as normal as possible, while still letting them be their own, unique kind.

Though, normal, is a matter of personal opinion, as well. ; )

Hello Tumblr!

After about 90% of humanity, I have finally come around to join this fun platform. My main reason for this is that this gives me a chance to talk to people who share my love for Marvel movies, Norse History or fanfiction. Maybe even all three.

In the past, I used the comments section of Ao3 to discuss theories of alternate history, worldbuild and character development. But there is just so much more space here and tumblr enables you to ask me questions like “Why did you make all Jötnar male?” or “Why is Odin such a bastard?” I’d be super happy to answer those and others, and to read your own headcanons.

What I love most about fan communities is that they bring us together. So, welcome to my little study corner on Jötunheimr, no matter what country or realm you hail from!
