barty annoying the hell out of james just to get a rise out of him bc he thinks it’s funny, until james decides to push back and realizes that gets barty shaken so they live in this constant teasing, borderline "you wanna kiss me so bad it makes you look stupid" agenda, (as a joke, of course) but james quickly understands they have a single thing in common more important than whatever twisted gay chicken they like to play, regulus. james is very much in love with the man and barty will actually kill before someone hurts his best friend.

they could be intensely bickering about i don't know, james’ left sock, but the moment regulus enters the room, jaw clenched, shoulders tense, slight frown between his brows. he takes one look at the both of them almost pulling each other's hair, sighs, and falls into evan's arms with a whine.

barty and james are on them in a second, asking what's wrong love? and who do i need to beat up? but reg just buries his face deeper into evan's chest and calls cramps. that's all they need, james' off to the kitchen to start on the cinnamon tea, he passes by the coffee table and tosses his keys to barty who's at the door already pulling on his shoes to go the store. they work silently, in perfect tune, merely a look is needed to say they both know what do to, and funnily enough, trust the other to deliver.
