Inside the mind of Icarus

I remember  spreading my wings  and letting myself fall.

I remember  the feeling of joy and freedom  that flying brought me as I soared into the sky. I remember the agony and shock and fear as I turned to the sun and asked for mercy. And I remember  an elegant bow and golden hair And your eyes.  Scared. powerful in pain beautiful. 

And I smiled.  I spread my arms and let myself fall, to wherever death would take me next. But I never closed my eyes. 

I crashed into the ocean.  And deeper than where I rested in the sea, where the wax seared my skin, lie your eyes forever burned  into my soul.
