The African wild dog is also called the hyena dog or painted dog. They live in the savannas and semi-deserts south of the Sahara to South Africa. With a shoulder height of 70 cm, a head body length of 90 cm and a 35 cm long tail, it is the largest wild dog in the African savannah. Its weight is between 20 and 36 kg. The African wild dog is one of the most endangered mammals in the world. According to the World Wildlife Fund, around 6,600 wild animals are only counted. The largest populations have remained in southern Africa and southern East Asia.

Sein Gewicht beträgt zwischen 20 und 36 kg. Der afrikanische Wildhund zählt zu den am stärksten vom Aussterben bedrohten Säugetieren der Welt. Rund 6 600 wild lebende Tiere werden laut dem World Wildlife Fund nur noch gezählt. Die größten Populationen sind im Süden Afrikas sowie im südlichen Ostasien verblieben.
